Dear Medications.com:
I cannot thank you enough for this site. Just yesterday I was prescribed Cipro for a nagging UTI which seemed to only partially get better with Doxycycline HYC. After only 3 Cipro pills I am stopping!! And will never take Cipro again. I take responsibility for rushing back to my doctor at the emergency care clinic and asking 'now what' after the Doxycycline was finished--we Americans are so quick to want the next candy pill with more strength! So even though my initial urinalysis showed no dangerous / STD bacteria present, because I was still urinating too frequently my doc suggested Cipro. I trusted him and took the first pill last night--I got a terrible headache, woke up promptly at 3:30 AM and had trouble returning to sleep. Got up this morning, took the 2nd pill and by early afternoon, was so tired and aching I had to lay down for 1.5 hrs..I felt miserable. Then this afternoon, after taking my 3rd pill, that's when I began to feel occasional tingling in my joints, hot pain in my knee capsules, continuing low-grade ache to my head, the feeling that my esophagus was shrinking, etc..... EVERYTHING you guys all have reported.

I got on the internet and thank God I found your site. After 2 hrs of my own research and the testimony of so many people, including tons of once-healthy, athletic persons whose lives have been destroyed irreparably by Cipro, I took my healthcare into my own hands, called my pharmacist and said 'I'm finished touching Cipro...never again will I take it.'.

This drug is more toxic than anything I've ever taken, and the way my body has begun to react in only 24 hrs, it is obvious that the drug co's are playing with fire on this compound. We as people must stand up and take action, and educate our doctors. I am taking some info. into him tomorrow, telling him i will be on a strict cranberry juice and kidney/liver tea detox program for the next few weeks to see if these 'natural' methods might help me rid my system of the bacteria.

In any case, I refuse to use Cipro ever again and hope that many more people will read these pages before ingesting any or too much of this dangerous drug.

Hi...I've been on Topamax since October of last year. I take 50mg. in the morning and again at night. I haven't noticed any real significant decrease in the migraine frequency, just in the duration. Whereas sometimes I'd be in bed for an entire day, sometimes 2, now they only last until the early afternoon. A big plus. However, there are some side effects that I just can't live with. The dry mouth is a pain in the butt but that I can deal with. What I can't deal with is the almost complete loss of my short term memory. It's so bad that I will ask a person the same question numerous times in a 5 minute time period and have absolutely NO recollection of having asked the question previously. I have found myself walking down the street and not known where I am. I dial the telephone and not remember who is going to pick up on the other end. And I'm dazed and confused on a good day. On a bad day it's worse. I can't live like this. So...I was wondering if others had the same awful symptom that I'm experiencing. I have others that bother me but that one is the worst. Also, how do I wean myself off of this medication? Thanks for listening.....D.

Boy, this could take a while. Have been on generic Levoxyl for more than 7 yrs(can't say exactly how long since I stay "fuzzy headed" all the time). Anyway, about a yr ago I became so depressed I went off all my meds -- I'm a diabetic on insulin and also have high blood pressure. I felt good!To try and make this story a little shorter, I went on a diet and lost 70 lbs -- went from 310 down to 240. Then I went back on meds. In less than a yr, have regained all the weight I lost. Also, my legs swell and ache so badly it makes walking painful. Hands, wrists and knees throb constantly. Intermittent headaches so bad I have to wear sunglasses just to tolerate indoor lighting. Hair loss is so severe I'm considering a wig. Skin is dry and itchy and lotions help not at all. Any work I have to do I must accomplish before noon because by early afternoon the fatigue is debilitating. I'm currently on 300mcg of Levothyroxine (up from 250mcg 2 months ago) and doctor wants to increase dosage even more. Had no idea there were other people suffering the same problems until I stumbled upon this site. I take the medication as prescribed (with perhaps less than the recommended full glass of water) but plenty of coffee. Discovered on another site that the coffee may be inhibiting the drug's absorption. I feel so helpless/hopeless. Am considering going back off the Levothyroxine but am seriously worried about high T3/T4 levels. Thanks for listening; guess I just needed to vent.

After a year of battling effects from an eye injury, an optho-neurologist finally came to the conclusion that I had orbital inflammatory psuedo tumor. I was told to take 60 mg immediately and then take 2-40mg doses (AM and early afternoon). On Friday, July 18th I took 60 mg at 6:30 p.m. and was so nauseous and barely slept. That next day I took 40mg in the morning and another 40mg around 2:30 p.m.. Although I had been, throughout the year, experiencing pain in my left eye and cheek..what I experienced by 4:00p.m. that next day was more severe than ever. I started having shooting pain and a headache so excruciating that I was in tears. (I had two children naturally).
By 10:30 I had several hours of this pain when the worst happened. The left side of my face drooped and I had difficulty speaking. By the time I got to the hospital I could not move my left arm and left leg. After five days in the hospital and every test imaginable (cat scan, MRI, EKG, etc) they ruled out all stroke, MS and anything else that would show up on these tests. During the hospital stay (although they did not cite prednisone for this event), they started tapering me off. I went from 80 to 50 in one of these days and thought I would DIE. There was no pain reliever/narcotic strong enough to take away the headache. I spent ten days tapering and prayed every day for the end. Sweating, no sleep, crying and did I mention...my headache has still NOT gone away. I have a couple of hours here and there without this pain but for the most part I have been in this hell even after my taper. The clincher is that NO ONE at the hospital or afterwards would admit that this was a side effect but they also could not provide a response. It took three weeks for me to work my way back to walking and using the left side of my body. Has anyone heard of this before? Good luck to all of you, it has meant a lot to read your comments.

I was prescribe SMZ-TMP 800-160 DS 3 days ago on July 2nd for an infected hair follicle in my right armpit. I took the first does that evening and not long after felt really nauseated, almost like I had the flu. I consulted the page they always give you with prescriptions and it said that nausea was a side effect and that should go away after a couple of days. Well the next morning when I woke up I had no appetite and still felt a little nauseated but not as bad as the night before. I did take the 2nd dose and by mid morning the nausea was getting worse and by early afternoon I was developing a fever. Took a couple of Tylenol and toughed it out through the rest of the day at the office. When I got home I took my temp and found it to 101.3, took some Tylenol and called my pharmacists and he indicated that temp and nausea were really nothing to worry about. Felling a little reassured but still like I had the flu I took the 3rd does and about an hour after I took I started to feel the worse yet. I checked my temp again and found it had climbed to above 102 and for some strange reason my tongue would go numb for short intervals, almost like it had been shot full of novocain. I got absolutely no sleep that night, and given that the info sheet said to notify your doctor right away of you develop a persistent fever that next morning, July 4th, I called the office number and got the answering service and they had the doctor paged and when he finally called me back he was quite concerned over my reaction to this medicine and said I had to be seen by someone today because of the persistent fever. Being that it was the 4th of July the only option was the ER so off I went. They ran a few tests and found that yes I was having an adverse reaction to this evil medicine but I should be fine in a couple days. It is now July 5th, more then 36 hours since I took the last does, and the nausea is finally gone and my appetite is slowly coming back, but I still have a fever but it is slowly coming down as well or maybe the Tylenol is finally working, either way I hope by the end of the weekend to be feeling better.

Despite the messages I've seen on this board, I actually have a success story. I've always had horrible experiences with birth control and this pill took time and patience, but I feel *so* much better now that I'm on it. The first 2 weeks were tough - and any birth control will take time to adjust to...you're putting hormones in your body after all - but now my mood swings are gone, my period is regulated plus it's lighter and shorter, I don't have any bloating or water retention, and my acne does not flare up at random.

The only side effects I've had are early afternoon headaches, which have nearly disappeared now that I'm in my second month. My body temperature has even stabilized so I'm not cold all the time (iron in the pill..??).

I was pretty determined to give this a good try because I was starting to completely skip over my period for some reason, and without a regular cycle I was gaining weight out of no where despite my desperate attempts to lose it (I was near anorexic and *still* gaining weight), I was a psycho b*%ch to be around, and when I'd wake up in the morning, my stomach was so bloated I looked pregnant! I'll take the slight side effects of this pill over that any day!

Hi! I have started the NuvaRing almost three weeks ago, and I have been feeling sooo tired that I have lost all my interest in everything-except sleep.Also-I have had these weird, charley-horse type cramps in my calfs which swing down and around the arch of my feet. The cramps started exclusively on my right side; but recently I have started feeling them on my left. I would wake up in the morning, get up and I could hardly walk until sometime in the early afternoon. Today, fed up with this crap, I took the damn thing out-and almost immediately the charley horse tightness and pain dropped off. I also knew it would not be long before I would start to gain weight, as I have slacked off my exercise program due to major fatigue. It has been only a day, but I am feeling great, knowing I made the right decision. I have varicose veins in my thigh and calf area-and I fear the blood clots that the ring would predispose me to. I don't need birth control as my husband is infertile; this was prescribed to clear up a cyst.

Hi, I decided that I would write as this site has been really helpful to me. I too have had most of the side effects as a lot of you have listed. I had my mirena in for almost 3 years and I have experienced weight gain about 15 to 20 lbs, hair loss, definite lost of sex drive, bloated stomach (and I never had a stomach before), joint pains, very bad acne on face and back, constant bladder and yeast infections, I read where someone else had rough skin on feet and I also experienced that and never had it before, palpitations, chest pain, bad back pain, dizzy a lot, and tired a lot. Well I had mine removed 2 days ago and it hurt really bad. The doctor could not find the strings at first and had to probe around for a while and eventually used clamps to find it and pull it out and I was in severe pain but the doctor did find it and got it out. When I left the doctor, I was feeling pain down there but I could deal with it and started cramping right away in office. yesterday I was cramping bad in the morning and early afternoon and then it stopped. I also felt like I was about to get a migraine for the last 2 days. I have not had any bleeding yet and at first, like the day of removal I felt "funny" in my body but now I feel okay. I think if I would have left it in longer that I would have had to get an operation to get it out. The side effects just got worse and worse. Also I posted here a few months ago maybe around 6 months ago and at that time I was having a lot of these symptoms too but didn't think it could be the mirena but the bad acne and bloated stomach and weight gain =, I knew that was from the mirena. I too, like a lot of you have been to the doctor countess times for other problems just for them to say all tests are normal. I know that my problems came from the mirena, Well good luck everybody, I will post again later after its been out for a while for an update. God Bless

Since the last time I posted, the breakthrough bleeding has come back. I guess its because I skipped the week of inactive pills in my first month. The bleeding started on the first day of the second week in my second pack of pills, and 8 days later I still have light bleeding going on. Its kind of weird actually, because I usually seem to bleed during the late morning and early afternoon, and by early evening it stops, only to start again the following day. Its not the worst thing in the world because that means that I can still have some fun with my boyfriend, as long as its at night time. Just wondering if this has happened to anyone else, and how many months can I expect these long periods to last for before it becomes more regular?

Had dental surgery (an implant), Dentist gave me an Rx for Lortab and received a generic at the pharmacy. Dentist's instructions was to take the Lortab as his painkiller was fading to prevent any difficult pain. Took the tablet, started feeling sleepy (early afternoon) and git into bed and immediately fell asleep. When my wife checked on me, instead of expecting me lying quietly on my back. She found me in constant motion, twisting, turning one side to the other--rather hectic. When I awoke, I found sharp pains in the back of my head, across my back, and down my right side to my knee. After medical questioning and an MRI of my spine, the opinion was that I had pinched one or more nerves. This happened 2/2/08 and still with me 3/14/08. I have PT 2X a week with some relief each time, Still in pain!

Horrible dry, hacking cough day and night. Started within 3 days of starting the medication. Extreme exhaustion (possibly due to lack of sleep from all the coughing). By early afternoon, all I want to do is lie down and sleep. Of course, I can't because I start coughing. Pain in my upper back and arms, some pain in my legs as well. Sometimes dizziness and a feeling of being light-headed also. At times, I feel very near collapse. After six weeks, on this medication I have been taken off it and put on Norvasc. I started taking it this morning. I'm hoping the side effects of the Lisinopril will soon subside. I'm 65 and feel 85. I felt good before starting Lisinopril.

Hi! Flowerbabies-- I had a constant head ache yesterday- but it's gone today. My throat has been hurting all week though. It's wierd how the symptoms come and go. I also have chest pain every once and awhile.
I actually had a good morning and early afternoon today-- but I kept on wondering- when is the panicking going to start? That of course brought on the unevitable panic feelings this afternoon. I am relaxing and starting to feel better. I am glad that now at least I have periods where I don't panick- that makes me happy.
I am taking a multi-vitamin and some magnesium every day. I drink a lot of water. I am not hardley ever hungry though- do you guys notice that?
My main thing that I hate is not feeling like myself. I feel me coming back though-- so there is hope!
Thanks everyone so much--- When I am desperate and sad I go to this website and it brings me hope.

Oh My! I've been taking this durn drug for quite sometime. Have had what sounds like "smokers cough", PCP told me I had asthma & COPD, got put on steroids & gained excessive weight, not been able to rest well even though I've slept 8-10hrs., feel so tired by 1pm each day, stomach goes crazy, feel like there's something extra in my abdomen. Have been off this drug for several weeks now and here's my findings:
Not coughing, no tickle at back of throat like there's a hair there, sleeping better, not feeling so tired in the early afternoon & don't feel as if someone keeps hitting me in the stomach. After reading what others have written here, draw the conclusion I'm not crazy after all. Thanks All!

I take it for sleeping better at night, I recommend not taking it at daytime If it makes you weak. (I only take 1 50Mg) if I need it. Basically I treat it as if I took a sleeping pill. (meaning should sleep for at least 7 hours. :-) Otherwise I have no problem with it. (I have social Anxiety, I also take Prozac In the Later Morning/early afternoon.
No side effects, besides Harder to Ejectulate. (which could be Prozac) as I don't take Hydroxyzine every Night.

Dizzy and pressure headache which was very strong at first. Over a two month period these side effects got slowly a little better, but never went away entirely. I switched from taking it in the morning to taking it early afternoon and that seemed to help.
