I have been on singulair for about 7 years and it has really helped my asthma. I tried going off of it because I hate the thought of having medicine in my body at all times, but it was like having chronic bronchitis so I went back on it. The only side effect I have noticed is easy bruising. The bruising has continued and then I started having something else happenb. I have blood vessles that are breaking in my fingers and it's really painful. For no reason all of the sudden I feel this sharp pain in my fingers then hot and itchy and then my the vein/veins in my finger/s bursts in gets purple and swelled. I talked to my Doctor about this and she just advised me to take a baby aspirin every day and said if it happens any where but my fingers to let her know. I have tried finding out if anyone else has had this symptom but have not seen it. I am not sure if it's something to worry about or not.

I am a 55 year old male, active and mostly physically fit. I have been taking Singulair for 10 years and my asthma has been reasonably well controlled most of the time. Already after 6 months of taking the drug I noticed a tendency of easy bruising, fragile skin and bleeding but my doctor never thought this had anything to do with Singulair but rather because of my prolonged usage of steroid creams for my eczema. However, the bruising never seemed to coincide with the areas of my body where I had mainly used steroid cream. About three weeks ago I decided to stop taking Singulair and I also discovered that bruising and bleeding are mentioned as possible side effects of the drug.

After I stopped taking Singulair I have not had any further bruises and my skin seems stronger.

I have been taking Zocor for over 4 years after having problems with Lipitor. I have recentley developed muscle and joint pain in the neck, shoulders and elbows and sometimes in the knees and legs. I have a great amount of fatigue and general weakness at times. Occasionally, I have a pale colored stool. I have also noticed a loss of muscle mass particularly in my arms. I am also experiencing easy bruising. After reading these testimonials, I am discontinuing Zocor to see if the problems improve. I am a 61 yr old male.

My husband takes prednisone for bronchiolitis obliterans residual from two bone marrow transplants for leukemia. On and off this steroid for nearly a decade now. The emotional roller coaster; the poor management by some of his previous doctors; the easy bruising; the effect on his sleep and his mood stability. This is a horrible medication that saved his life. Damned if he does and damned if he doesn't. Before his last crisis where he had to go back on it, he actually told me that he'd rather die than start it all over again. He changed his mind, but what a toll it takes! Weight gain and the devastating effect on his body, his self image and his self esteem is the absolute worst. Before the leukemia hit, my husband lived in the gym lifting weights and staying trim effortlessly. He missed the exercise as a coping mechanism during his treatments. When he was physically able to exercise again after two hip replacements, two shoulder replacements and leukemia in remission - he developed the lung problems and started thsi prednisone cycle of submission. He is still trim but lives with this globe of abdominal fluid and weight that seems to have migrated from the rest of his body to his navel. Years ago all of this abdominal girth seemed to resorb back into his body leaving just stretch marks when his steroid use decreased. Now despite a decrease, it remains stubbornly in place and seems to be growing. It profoundly affects his breathing as well. If he eats too much at all, he can't breathe well. He has tried calorie reduction, Atkins, glycemic index diets and nothing seems to work. He can't get aerobic enough to tackle the weight. I have searched for a personal trainer or a nutritionist or anyone who might help my husband with an indvidiualized plan. Any ideas how best to xupport him?

My 12 y.o. daughter has has first hand experience with weight gain on Advair. About 3 years ago, she gained 20 lbs in 6 months - and it started happening exactly when she started the drug. She was very active (swim team, gymnastics, etc) and did not overeat. It is very frustrating that both her pediatrician and her asthma/allergy specialist deny that her small dose of advair is to blame. For some reason, and I have talked to others that this has happened to, switching to Singulair did not help her with the weight problem. Seems the people who are hypersensitive to inhaled steroids are also sensitive to Singulair.

Concerned about her weight, and because she was always so thin, I took her to an endocrinologist to rule out any other problems. After a lot of bloodwork, he concluded that he could not rule out that it was a side effect of the Advair, and that it may have elevated her blood sugar.

I have read tons and tons of postings on the internet about children & adults rapidly gaining weight from inhaled corticosteroids (i.e. Flovent, Advair), along with the round face, bloated stomach, stretch marks, thin skin, easy bruising, etc. but nobody ever says what happens after stopping any of these drugs. Do people ever go back to normal? Do kids look like themselves again? Do any of the side effects disappear? She's been off the Advair for about 6 months now (uses albuterol as needed) but cannot reverse her weight gain no matter what!

My husband and I have been looking for 3 years now on how to avoid our daughter's weight gain with asthma drugs. If you run into any info., please let us know. Any experiences or info would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Have been on Prednisone before(3 times in the past year and a half) but always low doses-10mg,down to 2.5mg over 10 days. This time I went from 20mg, weening down to 5mgs,been on it for a total of 5 weeks now for Rheumetoid Arthritis. Before that was on Relifen, then clinoril-both caused side effects with my liver. Was worried about the whole "moon face, weight gain" thing. Have heard such horror stories about it,even at that low of a dose. So far ,have not gained any weight, in fact have lost 3 pounds in the past 4 weeks. Can move my hand again with out major pain. The only side effects I have had are easy bruising, muscle pain in legs and very dry mouth. Will be weened off completly in another week, then going to start Mobic.

began advair 100/50 twice a day for asthma approx 1 year ago. dose
increased to 250/50 after 6 months. has REALLY helped my asthma but after stumbling upon this website i am left wondering about it's side effects. i have experienced:
unexplained calf and feet cramps
pimply rash over stomach and back
moodiness/irritability
feels like i have a ball of mucous in the back of my throat
high blood pressure (for the first time in my life)
high blood sugar (diabetes does not run in my family and i'm 5'8" and only weigh 115 lbs.)
dark circles under my eyes
SEVERE dryness on the sides of my mouth
easy bruising
increased heartburn
stomach pain
hip pain, making walking difficult at times
overall increased joint/bone pain (prior diagnosis of osteoarthritis with
recent diagnosis of fibromyalgia)
frequent sore throat
blurred vision
inability to stay focused at times
i am unsure if my advair use has caused any or all of the above symtoms but after reading the similar side effects experienced by other
advair users, i am SERIOUSLY considering stopping my advair. i will be
back in touch once i reach my final decision and let you know if any of these conditions improve

I am 16 years old and I am taking 60 mg of prednisone per
day. I have a kidney disease and that is why I have to take it. I have experienced weight gain, moon face, bloating, easy bruising, and hunger all the time. I would not recomend this medicine unless your illness is life threatning. If anyone would like to talk about it, please email me. Thanks
