In addition to all I mentioned in my posting before, I am now having burning skin feeling and my shirt can't touch my skin sometimes without it burning, hurting.

Has anyone heard if this drug leaves your system or not???

I took the drug for 2 days for a sinus infection. Midway thru the first day, I started to feel numbness 2 front teeth, palate, upper lip and nose. Thought it was the sinus. Took one more pill.

The shoulder and elbow pain was exacerbated by the pill as I already have tendinitis.

The sinus infection is gone, at least for now. I hope it doesn't come back to bite me!

I have been taking 40mg lipitor for over 9 years now.

I have had back issues since an injury to one disc (L4?), and had microdiscectomy in 2001? Took about two years to actually get close to normal.

The last few years, I have had multiple issues with shoulder pain, wrist pain, elbow pain, lower back pain, Upper rump muscle pain , and now both hips are killing me (the shoulder, upper rump muscles and hips are by far the worst). And I am now so weak in my lower back muscles, that it feels like I will (and do) pull out my back.

I have seen NO many doctors I can't even name them all. I have had operations, multiple injections (cortisone) taken pain meds, etc. Nothing has helped and in the last year and a half, I have gotten steadily worse. To the point where I can't really do much of any activity. Sleeping at night is painful. Can't lie on left shoulder, and can't lie on either hip for more than a few minutes. If I fall asleep on my side, the pain wakes me up. When I try to walk, 80% of the time, I end up with a pain in my upper right rump (sacroiliac area), that I MUST sit down to get the intense pain to go away, which it does. But comes right back when I walk again.

I have had x-rays, MRIs etc, and never reveals all that much. Disc issues, yes. NOt much else.

Recently, I have begun to get a nasty clicking (catching) on my left jaw (joint?). Not really painful, but something definitely wrong. My dentist sent me to his Chiro. I went and liked him right away. I had gone to another chiro for years and I believe in them. But this one is the best I have seen.

Anyway, one of the FIRST things he suggested, was that it was POSSIBLE that the Lipitor is causing all of my problems. Put me on COQ10, and doing multiple adjustments and treatments. I will be seeing my regular doctor 5/26, and my chiro wants me to see if he will take me off lipitor and put me on Niaspan instead.

I guess my question is: Can Lipitor be fine with me for so long, and then in such a short period of time, turn me into a compete wreck from the pain and wasting away of my body/muscles? I've told doctors for over a year now that there is SOME connection as to all these issues and pain. One Doctor, of course, gave me the "you are getting old" bull. Yes, I am 56 yrs old. But I understand the process of getting old, vs the complete failing of ones body.

Also, IF it is the Lipitor, can it possible all go away? Or should I expect some damage forever?

One more thing, the last ortho I went to the other day for a second opinion, wants me to do a EMG, to see if there is muscle damage. I was not planning on doing it, but wonder now, should I? He was not doing it because of lipitor, as he never even talked about that to me. I had shoulder operation and have not had the results I feel I should have had.

I had went to the dr. a few weeks back for sinus problems. My dr. gave me amoxicillin to take. After 1 week, My sinus infection was
not any better at all so he gave me 400mg of avelox to take once a day for 10 days. I immediately experienced dizziness and extreme bouts of tiredness. Since that was the primary warning
on the label I did not pay it any attention and continued to take the meds. After 6 days of taking the meds I have decided to
discontinue using the meds. I have experienced some severe side effects which are dizziness, fatigue, increased headaches,
upset stomach, extremely loose stool, stomach cramps, blurred vision and severe and almost debilitating ankle pain, leg pain, knee
pain, wrist pain, elbow pain, shoulder pain, lower back pain and neck pain.
I have also had a rapid heart rate so bad at times it feels like my heart is
going to beat right out of my chest. I feel anxious and very short
tempered as well. I am snappy with my loved ones for no reason at
all and what is worst is I still have severe sinus pressure and
pain as if the infection hasn't even went away. The only plus is that I can
breathe clearly through my nose for the first time in 3 and a half
weeks. I guess that's not really much of a trade off now is it.

Returned yesterday from 3 days in the hospital. Rapid heartbeat and pain in the chest sent me to the ER. The heart enzyme tests showed that I'd had a mild heart attack but an echocardiogram showed my arteries were fine and there was no damage to the heart. They call me "the mystery lady". No mystery to me! It's been 2 weeks since stopping Levaquin after 5 pills of 500 mg. I've been suffering with constant headaches, severe neck, shoulder, arms and elbow pain and am convinced that the heart problems are all part of the results of taking Levaquin. I'm drinking Aloe Vera Juice, and taking calcium, magnesium, garlic, Omega 3 fish oil, and lots of water. No one seems to know what works!

After the 3rd day of treatment for elbow pain the tendon ruptured. I would rather had the pain I've been dealing with prior to this.
The evening doses prevent getting any sleep.

Hash thyriod disease with vitiligo.Synthroid .88mg. 3 yrs on Synthroid.
NONE OF THESE SYMPTOMS I HAVE HAD BEFORE SYNTHROID.
SEVERE knee pain, ovary pain, joint pain, bone pain, muscle aches, fatigue, sleep apnea, weight gain, depression, anxiety, edema, FIBROMYALGIA / LUPUS SYMPTOMS,chronic inflammation, numbness in left foot, numbness in left hand, lower back pain, headaches, elbow pain, abdominal pain, brain fog,HAIR LOSS and greasy hair (always had thick curly drier hair) greasy skin, white pimple-ish areas on arms, itchy breast, lymph breast pain, increased hunger, strong food cravings, irritability, high blood sugars (I am type 1 diabetic) synthroid is known to mess with insulin in a diabetic, all my symptoms have had one test or another ran and all come back normal. I have no diabetic neuropathys..which surprised the doctors when my nerve tests came back normal...he was blaming my diabetes for most symptoms and told me to eat less in regards to weight gain.Still he brushed off my symptoms. I have asked my (endo doctor) to put me on Armour but she refused, she said I would be taking steps into the dark ages.
As if the symptoms are not enough, I am developing more.
NEW SYMPTOMS..Globus sensation (feels like constant lump in throat) eye twiches, eye floaters (not diabetic related).
I did experience twice after a higher dosage was made I felt great for the first two weeks and then like crap again.
I have oddly noticed I have crazy-fast hair growth, although my hair is thinning and not replaced..I have to shave twice a day.

Also I read a comment about one person switching synthroid to evening and said they felt better. I am pretty sure this is because doing it that way the body absorbs less synthroid. And for any one who doesn't know..synthroid takes calcium from the bones over time.
I am sure the avg person on synthroid complains to a dr about symptoms and doctors never get a clue.

I was prescribed the 4mg methylprednisolone pack along with 50 mg tramadol for acute tendinitis in my wrist. I took the first 3 days of the prednisone and only 2 doses of the tramadol over the three days. For a total of 60 mg of prednisone.

The first day I had hot flashes and insomnia but attributed it to the tramadol because I had never taken it before and had taken the prednisone several years ago for poison ivy with no adverse reactions. I didn't take the tramadol the second night and then took it again last night along with my daily dose of prednisone. I had extreme difficulty falling asleep, heart burn, hot flashes; and tossed and turned all night trying to fall asleep. At around 2am, I began to have difficulty breathing, tightening in my chest, confusion, and racing thoughts. It felt as though my throat was closing up on me. My anxiety progressed to the point that I was pacing back and forth. I woke my husband up and told him to prepare to take me to the ER. After calling my insurance's 24 hour help line, it was recommended that I go to the ER. I had an x-ray, blood work, urine drug screen, and echocardiogram. Luckily, everything was negative. The ER doctor told me that I likely had a reaction to the prednisone and commented that some people will experience these symptoms when taking it. He stated that he had a similar reaction when he took it and it felt like he was climbing the walls, which is an accurate description of my experience that night. He recommended that I either stop taking it altogether or call my primary care provider and cut it down. He prescribed me xanax and administered some to me at the ER which greatly helped. The next day I stopped taking the pred but am still having dizziness, chest tightness, hot flashes, and mental dullness. I have decided to never take this medication again. Fortunately, I don't have any of the physical sx that some have experienced, and my heart goes out to you. I think the mental symptoms were traumatic enough for me and can't imagine having both as I would be a basket case. I have mood swings, some melancholia, and am very fatigued.

I think it is imperative to research any medication that is prescribed to you before you take it. Many providers will say that side effects are rare, but my experience is that side effects are more common than rare. My prayers go out to those of you who are going through what I am going through. I hope that it clears our systems quickly because this is no way to live. I'd rather put up with the pain of tendinitis or carpel tunnel than to have these symptoms.

I quit Lipitor (40mg) five weeks ago. I believe I was on a trajectory to disabilty within a year.
The unbelievable left elbow pain has gone (maybe the cortisone worked!). My left knee feels "normal" again, not perfect but nearly like it used to be. Within a couple of days of quitting I had severe pain in my right thumb along the bone, then in the middle of my right hand, then between the first and second fingers in my right hand. I currently have minor pain in my right wrist (this is new) on the pinkie side and minor pain in my left shoulder where the arm joins (this has been intermittent for a couple of months). I am feeling much better - but would not be at all surprised if pain appears in another part of my body before this is all history! There is also plenty of joint clicking going on.
I believe I first reported pain to the assistant doctor to the heart surgeon two weeks after I had the stent put in and was put on Lipitor. I was also on various other medications. I had tingling on the ends of my fingers and toes at random - hard to describe but it was as if a fairly sharp object (like a ball point pen, say) was being pressed progressively harder from the end of the finger/toe and towards the rest of that finger/toe: and as the pressure increased it would suddenly become painful. It was not a tingling/numb sensation but more a tingling which increased sufficiently that it hurt.
I am only being so specific because when I described these "symptoms" the doctor shrugged. If anyone has had similar - and I have seen tingling mentioned here - please make contact with me as I do want to report my experience back into the medical community but find, an exact description difficult. Things never needed to have got so bad if this was the first warning.
I since asked my family doctor if my knee problem was Lipitor related and she thought not: I was referred to Physical Therapy. I also told the physical therapists (who thought my knee should recover much sooner, and were surprised that I had zero mobility pain) that I also had serious elbow pain.
The orthopedic surgeon I saw did not connect the elbow problem to Lipitor.
The heart surgeon (stent insert) could perhaps be the only person who I did not tell of the pains - I don't remember - but I may be so grateful to be alive - that he may be someone to whom I did not voice a complaint!
On the positive - five weeks later I am feeling significantly better.

Hi
I am 64 years female and have been on 20mg Lipitor for 1 year, about 3 months ago my hair started falling out and I now have quite big bald patches My head hurts and I am having bad head aches. I also had knee shoulder & elbow pain. I stopped taking Lipitor about 2 weeks ago. The pain in my shoulder etc has eased. My Doctor was not very happy about stopping the Lipitor. I do not know if the hair loss is from Lipitor and how long it will take to stop falling out if this is the culprit ,if so will my hair grow back.

I am totally freaking out while reading these Vytorin postings. I have everything listed plus more....I have never thought anything more than it was me 'aging' or what ever. I started working out almost a year ago, just to make me 'feel better' but continue to battle with bad health. About 1 month ago, I got pneumonia (2nd time in 2 years), 3 weeks ago I started having deep 'tennis elbow' type pains in my arms. I mentioned this to a lab tech friend and she flip replays 'sounds like a side effect from a drug you are on.' I am taking Vytorin (and only Vytorin) so I decide to look it up: As I am reading these other postings, I find a familiar string with ailments I have experienced and told my physician but have never been led to think any possible connection with Vytorin. I have had several problems including: shooting, electrical pains in my lower and upper back and chest, elbow pain, pneumonia, diarrhea/constipation flux, anxiety, strange visual thoughts and memory loss.

I have been on Lipitor for several years, but switched to generic Zocor (Simvastatin) for 3-4 weeks because of the high co-pay. I didn't seem to have any bad side effects with Lipitor (or not as bad as Zocor), but have had swollen ankles, sore knees, and difficulty walking for the past couple of weeks--that's why I'm here--to see what others are experiencing.

I am 47 and have been on Lipitor now for about 7 months. For the last week or so, I have been experiencing upper shoulder, neck, and elbow pain. I passed it off as possibly the way that I sit at my computer. 1 week ago I went to the doctor to have the normal liver blood tests and she (the PA) asked if I had been experiencing any pain in my legs. At the time I didn't, and I didn't think anything of asking about my upper shoulder and neck problems, so I said "No, I feel fine".
Now today, I have been experiencing a constant twitch (for the lack of a better term) in my left foot. It's not like a normal twitch, in fact when my husband asked me to describe the sensation, I said that it felt like my nerve endings were twitching. I have also had a lot of dull headaches lately (which is very uncommon for me). I decided to search for Lipitor side effects and found this site. The thing that worries me more than anything is that my mom (which is 80 years old) has been on Lipitor now for approximately 4 years. She complained of her knees hurting but, chalked it up to her age. She contacted the doctor and he said that it wouldn't cause the kind of pain she was describing. It was most likely due to her age. I am so thankful I found this site and that everyone has taken the time to share their story. I am hoping that there is a healthier alternative. I read somewhere (maybe this site) to start taking CoQ10 and Vitamin C to reduce your cholesterol naturally. Hope this helps. Also, your natural CoQ10 is reduced considerably when taking statins. Thank you to everyone that has posted here. If I hear anything new I will let you know. God Bless and best wishes to everyone.

I am totally shocked at what I have learned about Lipitor. My physician prescribed 10mg for me over 4 years ago. No major problems until recently. Severe neck/shoulder pain for about 3 months. Dr said it was a pulled muscle. Gave me Skelaxin. No help. Went to Chiropractor--yanked, cracked, beat, etc--no help. In the past 2 weeks or so I have developed pain in my hips, back and legs. Blamed it on being 52 years old. As I read some of the experiences on here I could relate to each one. I also have gained about 30 pounds in the past 4 years, short term memory is terrible. NO ENERGY> 3 years ago-Dr started me on Wellbutrin for depression, then added Zoloft. I am to the point now I want to get off of all this and see how I could really feel. Not sure about withdrawals. Any comments on stopping the meds?

I have been on 20mg of Lipitor for about 3 years now. Right away I experienced sleeplessness and nervousness awaking several times during the night. Athough I reported this several times, it was routinely attributed to job stress by my doctor. After 3 years I still have problems sleeping through the night. I am now also experiencing shoulder and elbow pain during the night...its not excrutiating but bothersome at this point. After reading alot of these emails I am concerned that side effects will continue and additional ones come up. I plan to discuss in detail with my doctor when I visit next month.

I've been taking Zocor past 2 yrs and i took my self off it due to side affects..muscle weekness and elbow pain in my right arm, I go to a orthopedic next week and might have to have surgery on it.

I belive in my heart that it came from taking Zocor since I read all the messages on here.I like to get emails from people that have any side affects from Zocor so I can send them to the FDA and get Zocor off the market.

Its Bad Drug and no dr cant tell me Zocor isnt the cuprit.

I took Fosamax 70 mg once a week for 2 months. I quit taking it 2 weeks ago due to severe elbow pain, pain in shoulders and neck and right big toe is numb with electric pain. The first 2 days after taking dose I had headache and flu like symptoms. My doctor was not much help and wants me to stay on it if I can stand the side effects. I can only hope this goes away. Does anyone know how long it takes for the pain to diminish after stopping this terrible drug?
