I would like to stop taking paxil, I have been on it for 3 yrs. When I skip my medicine I get what feels like electrical shocks in my neck & head. I wasnt sure if I had a pinched nerve at 1st but began to associate this with the event that I had not taken my meds. I also have onset of panic attacks & rapid heart, & terrible terrible forgetfulness, as to even what cabinet I would like to open, I open the wrong one, go into the wrong doorway, wrong driveway. I am very concerned. I have told my Dr. that I would like to get off this Paxil but Ive been told that it would be best since I was suffering from anxiety attacks in past. I would like to be committed to be able to handle the withdrawls. If anyone has been successful in stopping Paxil and now feels pretty back to normal, please let me know. Thanks

I've been taking Januvia for 8 weeks, and have experienced muscle cramps with shock-like pain running down my leg into my heel; upper and lower GI spasms; night sweats with sleep interruption; and I gained 5 pounds in the first 4 weeks which I can't attribute to anything else. I've also taking metformin and glyset for several years, and although I've experienced the night sweats, they've greatly increased in intensity.

I was put on Lipitor over a year ago. I began having memory problems last Sept. and even asked for an Alzheimer's test. Thing got worse, I now have constant pins and needles in my middle and ring finger of my right hand. My hands ache all the time, and I am constantly on pain killers for the severe pain in my shoulders, thighs and lower legs and my feet.
I have also developed the shuffling walk, and sometimes I cannot decide which foot to put forward first, which is as I understand it a sign of Parkinson's. Today I saw a Neuropath specialist he used a machine which gave me little electric shocks, I will not learn the results of this test until I go back and see the specialist who has diagnosed me with Fibromyalgia. I am also severely depressed mostly because I stopped taking the Lipitor several weeks ago and I am getting worse not better. I feel about 30 years older than my age of 65.
I printed out some of the material I found on the net about the dangers of Statins and gave it to one of my doctors, but so far none of them acknowledge that Statins are responsible. Oh yes and my memory is still as bad. I am seriously thinking of making arrangements for my funeral.
When I refused to take Lipitor the doctor tried to prescribe a different drug but the pharmacist told me that it has the same effects as Statins, so refused to take the prescription.
I have already started taking CoQ10 and Vitamin C.

This is both one of the BEST and WORST drugs for anxiety/depression. I was on Paxil CR 37.5mg for five years for moderate anx./dep., and yes, the weight gain (10-15 lbs.), vivid dreams, sweatiness, etc. were all side effects. But the Paxil so thoroughly balanced out my anxiety and depression that the side effects seemed a fair tradeoff.
(P.S. Nothing kills a libido like Paxil.)
And then, I went off the Paxil b/c I was changing insurance companies. Having read all of the terrible withdrawal symptoms, I scheduled myself a full four months to taper off. I lowered my dosage every week by only 2-3mg at most. (This involved cutting up the pill, which *they* say never to do, but of course *they* also claim that there are no withdrawal symptoms.) As a result, my withdrawal symptoms were negligible at best.
This past year, I went back on the Paxil CR 37.5mg and for a short while it worked again. And then it suddenly STOPPED. *They* don't want us to know that once you've been on, then off, Paxil, when you return to it, its chances of working again are slim to none. I took less time (only 2 months) to withdraw this time around, and the withdrawal symptoms were HIDEOUS. I've never felt so scared of what my body exhibited--unbelievable dizziness, terrible electric "shocks," headaches. And abject rage that I've never experienced before in my life. So much incredible nervous energy that I couldn't sit still. A rotten memory and confusion. Horrible symptoms. And yet, while I was withdrawing, I could see my body improving in other areas--far less appetite, for one, far less need for sleep, and less exhaustion.
While my anxiety and depression have returned, and while I'll probably need to be put on a different pill, I now at least know to research not just "official" medication Web sites but also patients' anecdotes. If I'd done so the first time around, I never would have stopped the Paxil at all. Pharmaceutical companies are just pimps who own doctors, so drs. are never going to warn you about the bad side effects of what they prescribe!!

I was taken off Paxil per my request 3 weeks ago. The last 3 weeks have been the WORST ever. I was in so much pain, mental and physical. I could not work, sleep, drive, eat, walk, or even form words to talk. It was like my brain was mush. The only thought i could ever understand in my head was to go ahead and kill myself to get rid of the pain. I almost got fired from work, I had electric shocks up and down my body, I was always dizzy and could not walk with out help from someone. I was numb all over, for some reason, numbnees was the worst in my lips. I had to go to the ER where i was put on Valium to help with the withdrawls. I just started getting better last week, I still get dizzy and have numbness in my lips. The DR prescribed me Lexapro to replace the paxil but i have not taken it for fear that i will not be able to come off it without enduring absolute hell like i did with paxil. I have made several postings on this site about how great paxil was.. to began with... I wished i would have done some research before taking this med..DR's are so fast to prescribe it.. beware of what it can really do to you.

Suicidal thoughts/out of body experiences/dreams and feelings. Shaking/electric shocks. on 100mg once a day at night.
Now on zero.
I stop just like that. Decided stop it completely and don't go back. Took two weeks for withdrawl symptoms to stop!
No withdrawl symptoms whatsoever after that.
Stopping a psychiatric drug is like trying to stop smoking, it isn't easy, but with sheer determination it can be done. Just decide to stop and don't give up, no matter how bad the side-effects/withdrawl symptoms get.....it's the only way to do it.

I have been withdrawing from 100mg of Sertraline for 2 months - now at 75mg per day. Experiencing terrible jangles (electric shocks?) - apparently this is something to do with the electrical current running through your body. The drugs can break your internal circuits hence the shock feelings.
Asparagus, apples and carrots have been recommended as a potential ease for this problem. I'll let you know how I get on.
Additionally, skin rash developing randomly over my body - I suspect this to be a withdrawal side effect too.
Good luck to anyone coming off this.

I had the most terrible time if I missed a does of Zoloft. I didn't know what was wrong with me. I was getting these shocks to my face. It was if I was standing in the ocean and waves of sand were slapping at my face. These happened to me every time I moved my head. On a Thursday I went to my nurse practioner who prescribed my psyche meds and told her about these symptoms I was experiencing. She said it must be physical. On Friday, I went to my physician and she said it must be from the missed doses of Zoloft. At this point I decided to take the weekend and go cold turkey from Zoloft. Monday morning I was feeling so bad that I called the nurse practioner again. She only told me to go back to my psychiatrist because she insisted that is was the Zoloft that was causing this problem. Frustrated, I headed to the nurse practioner only to be told that she knew for a fact that it was NOT the Zoloft. By Monday night, the shocks had taken such a toll on me that my daughter was frightened by the way I looked and told me I needed to go to the hospital. My face had become so numb from hour upon hour of these continuous shocks. My daughter's concern finally convinced me to go. Once I got the emergency room and the ER doctor examined me, he immediately recognized that it was the Zoloft that was causing me to have these electric shocks to my face. He said he has seen many people come to the emergency room with these same symptoms thinking they are having a stroke from the numbness that the shocks create. He told me to go back on the Zoloft and to have the nurse practioner wean me off of it over the course of many months so this would not happen again. After this ordeal, I switched to a psychiatrist who would have a broader knowledge of medicines and any of their side effects so this may not happen in the future and have not been on any other ssri's since. This situation was horrible. I don't want to feel those electric shocks to my face again. Even though my side effect from Zoloft might be rare, I hope that this may help someone in the future to feel that they are validated in what they are experiencing and not have to go through what I went though.

I have been taking Lamictal for a few months now. I have horrible pains, tingles in my feet and legs. At times I feel like I am getting electric shocks in my feet. I started at low dosage of 25mg and now up to 175mg. I am taking this medication with Lexapro 10mg for depression and bipolar. I am also diabetic and thought maybe these pains are from neuropathy. I got tested for neuropathy and it was negative. I am not weening myself off of Lamictal and my leg pains are subsiding a bit. I now have a bad headache. My nose has been running to and I have bad waives of nausea throughout the whole time I am on this medication. I hope when I am fully weened off that this side effects will go away.
