I'm a 37 year old female and have severe asthma and allergies and have used pregnisone on and off for 30 years. I believe I am the poster child for the long term side effects. My immune system is shot to the point that my normal medicines for asthma (ventolin, advair) and allergies (tylenol sinus, claritan, visine A) and ezcema (elidel, hydrocortisone, etc. - - NOTHING works!
In the past 6 months, I have developed various infections that the doctors have not been able to identify. My eyes are swollen and red with large amount of white/yellow secretions. Vaginal secretions. Face swollen. Skilled covered in a rash with ezcema out of control. Sharp pains in my back and stomach. Constant asthma. Abnormal hair growth. It is to the point that it is impossible to function and each doctor just wants to prescribe more pregnisone. I feel as if my body is a walking time bomb and it is so full of all the cortisone from over the years and has just decided no more.
I admit that I too readily believed in the doctors when they would rapidly prescribe the pregnisone. Only now am I paying attention to the long term side effects.
Has anyone had tests done to test their immune system and other organs for damage? Thanks and best to our pregnisone club.

i started taking sulfameth/trimethoprim on 10/01/05,after taking this medication,i immediately started feelin light headed,i really didn't think it was the medication at first.after the third day of taking this medicine,i noticed my skin started getting extra dry and itchy,i started scratching my arms first because they were itching first, then my entire body started itching,i was terrified when i noticed red patches on my arms, breast, back, buttocks, legs, hands, face, neck, etc.i always pray before taking any medication,i contemplated on going to the emergency room,i said Lord there are people probably in worse shape than me,i don't want to go there and have to wait forever, and i know if i saw someone there in pain even if it was an act to get in first,i would have to let them go first,i didn't want to be digging like 90 going north.i started to pray and ask Gof to make things alright.i started rubbing myself all over with elidel,my daughters medicine,it did no good.i asked my oldest daughter to help me rub down in elidel.then i remembered that this daughter had medicated shampoo for something that looked kind of like what i had,she had the shampoo for about a year, but i prayed and asked God to help me,he did,i dampened my entire body and shampooed myself all over.it helped for a minute but i know that it's still in my body because i know the itchy feeling and the red marks all over my body.

I have a bad rash on my neck, back and arms. It has recently developed. I have been taking Advair for approx. 2 years. Is this normal for a side effect to take this long to show up? The rash is almost like hives. My doctor has given me something called Elidel to help with the rash. It does work but not completely. The doctor did not even mention Advair as a possible reason for the rash because I have been taking it for 2 years.

I have been on Lisinopril for about 6 months now. Was taken off of Labetalol after having side effect of persistent congestion. So now on Lisinopril I'm experiencing shortness of breath, wheezing, hands fall asleep and go numb to the point where I can't even feel my fingers, and starting two weeks ago I had vesicles on my feet that I treated with Elidel and they responded, then I got extremely itchy skin on my ankle and lower legs which is not going away with lotions (I have always had dry skin, but never itchy like this). Is this due to poor circulation due to too low of BP? What's the deal? Has anyone had these symptoms? Is there another drug that has no side effects? Does reducing the dosage of Lisinopril help eliminate side effects? Is it possible that Singular, Rhinocort or Elestat (all for allergies) can cause any of these symptoms? I'm tired of my body negatively reacting to drugs that I "need", especially the BP drugs. A heart attack or stroke is certainly worse, but these "side effects" are ridiculous! Help! Any ideas? I'll check back in to read your responses. Thanks.
