Enjoy sex symptoms and conditions

I am 26 yrs old and I have been on Nuvaring for about 3-3 1/2 years. I thought this was the greatest thing not having to remember the pill and the short light periods. I have always sworn by this BC! I have been having side effects I never thought came from the ring until now. I have read a lot of the side effects others are having and I think my lack of sexual desire for the past 1 1/2 yrs. MAY be due to Nuvaring and not my getting married 2 yrs. ago. (lol) I also have headaches often, not bad ones but enough to carry Tylenol in my purse. And another is dryness before intercourse, that I never had a problem with 2 yrs. ago. I never put two and two together until I racked my brain and wondered why I struggled so badly with my lack of sexual desire. I could care less if I have sex or not! That just wasn't me 2 yrs ago! I just couldn't figure out what had changed, going back on any medicines I had taken the past 2 yrs., the Nuvaring is the only thing that was constant. I have a Dr. Appt today and I am going to discontinue use of the ring and see if the side effects subside like they have for some others. I will post again when I have an update. Please let me know if anyone else is having the side effects more than a year after using the Nuvaring!! Thanks!

UPDATE 11/8/07

I took my Nuvaring out for good on Sept 29. Started on Wed Oct 3rd. And with the advise of my OB/GYN this would be my last period with the Nuvaring. We decided to go hormone free for a while. I no longer have the dryness I did before while on the ring and my sex drive is coming back around, I actually enjoy sex again. Daily head aches are a thing of the past. Things seem to be much better now off the Nuvaring. I started this time just a few days late with a fill blown period. Not the little light "Nuvaring Period" that I had for over 3 yrs. Welcome to life without hormones! Any side effects going off the Nuvaring?? I have had is a few days of my nipples being sensitive, that went away. I am looking forward to seeing what this next month brings without all of the bad side effects. When I decide to use birth control again, I guess I will choose to choke down the pill again. Until then....I'm FREE!

wow, I am so glad I found this site. I started taking Yasmin a few weeks ago, and in that time I have been to psychiatrists, therapy, put on Prozac etc. because of weird anxiety spells and horrible fatigue. I am extremely sleepy off and on during the day, so tired I can barely move. I am sleeping poorly, wake up early, nap constantly. My sex drive is all over the place, sometimes so horny I'm ready to jump on anything that comes across my path, but most of the time so tired I can barely get the energy to take a shower, let alone enjoy sex. It has pretty much ruined my life for the past month, I have missed work and school, blown off friends to sleep. I can't even clean the house or walk the dog. My best friend told me that I have not been myself for a few weeks now. Oh yeah, and my hair is falling out!!!! Of course the doctors want to blame it on depression, iron definciency, weed, poor diet, any excuse they can make up except that perhaps the pill they so blithely proscribed causes awful side effects! I am stopping this drug tomorrow, and we'll see if the symptoms go away. Thank you all so much for posting so that I now have a clue as to why I have been going crazy for the past month.

I googled 'vomiting', mood swings' and 'fatigue' and this forum was the third result and since I'm currently on Yasmin, I figured it must be related to what I'm experiencing, and I was right. The first month that I started Yasmin (December 2006), there were little or no side effects, only minor nausea and headaches. I got married in January 2007 and the side effects started to intensify but I attributed them to other things like stress and nerves. I get frequent headaches, some minor, some major and would vomit almost every month right before my period. My husband has also noticed and commented on my constant change of mood throughout the six months that we have been married and that I appear depressed at times. He says that I have become a different person. This inconsistency has often led to arguments that I cannot seem to find the root of until now. My sex drive is also much like a yo-yo nowadays, I simply feel disinterested most times even though we're both in our prime and it is not helping with my marriage. Therefore, I have made the decision to stop taking Yasmin. I might opt for a different pill or just stop altogether. I am 22.

I am so glad I found this website. I've been on NuvaRing for almost two years. I've experienced many of the symptoms other postings have described such as nausea, excessive bloating, mood swings, bizarre discharge, headaches, etc. I always felt better the week of my period when I was off the NuvaRing. I just put up with them thinking I'd rather deal with this than take the pill every day. The biggest complaint that I have is how (I now know) it has affected my sex life. I've been on NuvaRing since I was married and have never really enjoyed sex during our marriage. Last night was really painful, and it was obvious that it was because of the ring. My vagina felt insensitive during sex and then crazy burning pain. I found this website because I wondered if the ring might actually be affecting my sex drive and the ability to enjoy sex. Much of what I have read confirms my suspicions. I'm done with it and look forward to feeling myself again.

I have been taking Topamaz spinkles (30mg a day) for 3 months. I can't tolerate higher doasages. Migranes have lessened in intensity, although I still have a least 2 a week. I have toruble with my memory and hair loss. I have had a slight wt loss. I have no sex drive. Food does not interest me.
I started taking topamax because migranes were interferring with school. Catch 22 - I failed last semister due poor recall. I am taking myself off topamax. I may have migranes, but at least I will enjoy sex.

I have been on Lipitor for almost 18 months. Initially.When I first started the med, I did not have any side effects like others. I felt absolutely fine. Recently, I had to take a epidural for back pain. Shortly, afer that experience, Lipitor began to show it's true colors so to speak. I became numb in teh genitals and impotent. My doctors could not find anything wrong. All lab test and the prostrate was normal. I had absolutely no sensation whatsoever. I was devastated since I really enjoy sex. As of today, I stopped taking this terrible drug and expect a miracle very very soon.

Disappointed

I have a sexual dysfunction from neurontin (I think). I started taking the drug 3 years ago for anxiety and it worked for the most part however, I just was married. I am unable to enjoy sex and this all began when I started the med. I am 33 and don't think my sex drive is supposed to diminish now. I have been lowering the dosage but I am still having the same problem. Anyone else have the same?

I have also gained alot of weight. I tried to wein myself off of this drug and was very light headed and very evil. I wish there was something out there that would enable me to enjoy sex again. This drug has taken away the sex erge and has made me very insecure about my weight. I have gained 50lbs since i have been on this drug.
