I am relieved to find that I'm not the only one feeling these side effects!

On January 30, 2009 I had my Mirena put in (about 4.5 months after the birth of my son). The doctor never went over the side effects just touted it as the best thing since sliced bread. It was more painful than labor, delivery or the healing afterwards! I bled so much it looked like the linens were from a child-birth and that was just putting the dang thing in! The doctor had to waste one before she could get it seated correctly.

I bled for three months after insertion non-stop. Sometimes it was very heavy and sometimes it was lighter - but it was always there. I cramped all the time.

Since then I have stopped bleeding all the time but I start bleeding/spotting again at the drop of a hat. If I twist, turn or bend the wrong way I start bleeding. Sex makes me bleed. I think I am single-handedly keeping Always and Carefree in business at this point. I have been bitchy, cold, no sex drive, reclusive, back pain almost all of the time, bloating, unable to lose weight, short tempered and maybe worst of all I SMELL! I am a very clean person. I have only ever had one single sex partner (my husband). Since the Mirena was put in, I feel goopy, gross and wet all of the time and there is a smell which I cannot describe except to say "dirty" or "used". I may also be keeping Summer's Eve "personal" wash in business too.

At this point, I am very seriously considering having the Mirena removed. I thought a lot of what I was feeling was in my head or not related but apparently I was wrong.

I had Mirena inserted in 2007 due to a lack of tolerance to birth control pills. The experience was very painful for me. However, the doctor explained that the initial insertion process is different for every woman as we are not all designed the same. My cervix/uterus is oddly positioned. According to the doctor they are "crooked". As a result, the doctor had a difficult time properly inserting the mirena, which in turn resulted in major pain! But, this was just my personal experience. Not every woman will encounter this difficulty. However, I would recommend taking at least 2 ibuprofen before the procedure. Throughout the past 2 years, I have experienced a range of symptoms. Major depression, severe mood swings, acne, lack of energy, excruciating lower back pain which mocked mild labor pains, and the overall inability to function normally. I begged the Doctor to remove the Mirena 6 months ago, but she convinced me otherwise considering I cannot tolerate birth control pills either. Nevertheless, I am 35 years old, have one child already, and do not plan on having more. Well, last week, I was basically confined to my bed due to excruciating lower back pain, and severe bleeding. I called the Doctor, and they finally saw me today. I insisted on having the Mirena removed once and for all, and already feel 100% better just 12 hours later! The purpose of my message is not to discourage anyone, as we all have different levels of tolerance when it comes to pain, medications, etc.....Yet, I felt compelled to share my personal experience as it was not a positive one for me! The only "positive" symptom I obtained from the Mirena was a lack of periods. Unfortunately, there was a downfall to that as well. Due to a lack of a regular menstrual cycle, I felt extremely bloated, and had difficulty losing weight despite working out 5 days a week, and eating a proper diet. I sympathize with each and every one of you, and appreciate your efforts in sharing your experiences. Upon stumbling upon this website a few days ago, I finally found the courage to have this thing removed so I can once again "feel normal!" Good luck to all of you!

I am 35 years old and I live in Jacksonville, NC. Five days ago I was prescribed Levaquin for a serious sinus infection. After taking the first pill, I kept telling my husband I felt weird. Like I was numb. This was Saturday. By Monday I had no feeling in my face, no sense of smell or taste. It was horrible. By Monday eve my heart was pounding. I felt like it was coming out of my chest. I was so dizzy and I found it hard to concentrate. I woke up Wed. morning telling my husband I felt weird. I felt like I couldn't move my eyes and I couldn't feel the left side of my body. My lip on the upper right was swollen with blisters. Not to mention they were so dry because it seemed like no matter how much I was drinking I could never stay hydrated. By lunchtime Wed my left side of my body became very hot to where I was actually sweating under my armpit on the left side and my right side was cold. My heart began to race very badly, I became very dizzy, I felt like I couldn't breathe, my throat felt like it was swelling up and I couldn't swallow, then I started to shake uncontrollably, my body broke out in the horrible hives/rash. My blood pressure soared to 198/109 my pulse was 148. Then everything went black and I lost conscious. When I woke I was told I was unconscious for nearly three hours and that they injected me straight in the neck with epinephrine and injected me in my arm with 50 cc of Benadryl. They told me that they believe I suffered a serious reaction from Levaquin. It is the day after, cant even go to work, so weak and have the worst case of diarrhea you could possibly imagine. I was not even aware that the FDA put a black box warning on this drug. Meaning it is the worst warning you can have without removing it off the market. What the hell is wrong with these doctors? Why the hell would you keep giving that poison to us if you know it has such severe reactions. I am a mother of five and yesterday I thought my kids were going to be without a mother, that is how bad it was. I still have the bouts of paranoia and swear I am seeing things. My mind is a blur to most of yesterday. I still have no feeling on the left side of my body, or my face. I still cant taste or smell anything either. I am having bouts of dizziness and anxiety. I only consumed four of the 750 mg tablets, they gave me seven. They have prescribed me a different antibiotic, however because of yesterday, I am petrified of taking any medications, even Tylenol.

I was given Levaquin 750 1 pill a day for 7 days, this was on Wednesday for bronchitis. The first 2 days no effects, except for my joints started to hurt, especially in my ankles. Then on Thursday eve, the pain was so severe, I had
to take a muscle relaxer and pain pill. THis helped for awhile, then Friday morn early pain was so severe, I could not hardly move in my joints. Friday morn I took my pill and about 20 minutes later, I started vomiting, projectile, for about 20 minutes nonstop. I thought I was going to pass out. This finally stopped. I did not take no more meds til Saturday eve, 1/2 pill. I got so stff and severe pain, I could not get out to barn for chores. I have taken no more, and today is Monday, my joints hurt, especially my ankles, hard to walk. I have a lump on back of right knee. This medicine is bad. I have had severe headache, joint pain, nausea, and left me feeling quite depressed. Called doctor, but he didn't seem to concerned.

Here's a question- What are we supposed to say to our doctors to take this seriously and stop treating it like it's in our heads. Should they check our hormone levels? Have any doctors or nurses ever posted here?

I got my Mirena put in almost 6 months ago. I've experienced that deep depression and my weight is so back and forth, but I've recently been feeling dizzy and always hungry. I was concerned as these were my first signs of pregnancy. Anyone else get dizzy and nauseas?

Took last of seven tabs(500mg) on Apr 23 2007, was fine until later that eve when pain around my heart and left arm started to flare up. Went to bed early thinking rest would help but pain was as bad the next morning. Called Physician who referred me to ER as I indicated I may have a reaction to Levaquin.( I am male, 39, in overall great health) All tests(EKG,CT,CBC) came back apparantly normal...but now 5 days later I still feel this shooting pain. ER Dr. prescribed Naprocin but what happens when that prescription ends.....Does anyone who has felt these side effects have an idea as to how long this may last. Logged info at fda.gov but cannot find remedy.

After three days or maybe four days of taking Prilosec, my husband started to feel tingling, chaffing type feeling in his inner thighs. By the fifth day he started feeling weekness in his legs, by the seventh day he could not walk without holding on to something and felt very strange driving, as if his legs were not working. On the sixth day of taking Prilosec he was sent to the emergency room by his physician for an emergency overview and possible stat MRI. He was given several tests in ER and admitted that eve. MRI and spinal tap done within next few days, all back neg. He is now in a nursing home for PT, he stopped taking Prilosec on my urging 4 days ago, as of yesterday, his balance started to improve and this am is reporting that he is walking better. Before he had what I would call, stroke symptoms as far as leg goes

Swollen right eve lid and puffy bag under right eye. Itchy rash on arms, top of head and face. The initial effects were discounted until they persisted and got worse after taking the second 500 mg pill.

My 79yr old mother-in-law was given Levaquin at the ER on New Year's Eve for a bronchial infection (?) Her regular DR couldn't see her that day. She has since been in the hospital twice with severe diarrhea. The 1st time it occured x-rays showed an obstruction in her intestine but no mass was found. She was given fluids, a tube down her nose to pump out stomach contents and sent home after 3 days. She began having severe 10-15x daily, diarrhea and was then again admitted to hospital. Her DR keeps saying he thinks Levaquin caused this.

Is this permanent? What can be done now?

Been on this for two weeks. I have been very fatigued and have also experienced the dry mouth that so many mention. Perhaps the worst side effect for me is the vision change. I am very sensitive to light and everything is very blurry. I stopped taking it yesterday and I am still somewhat blurry. Hoping this wears off soon. Will be paying a visit to my eve doctor if it doesn't subside by tomorrow.
