I've been on Femcon for about 6 months and next month I will finally be off it. The first 2 months, I was constantly lethargic, depressed, nauseous, but I gave it a go since my doctor told me it would take a couple of months before the medication can do its thing. Around the 3-4 month period I thought I started getting used to it, but I couldn't lose weight even though I go to the gym 5 days a week. Then around the 5-6 month period, I started breaking out badly around my chin & cheek area. I've never had breakouts this bad. I thought it was because of my dog since he slept on my bed, but even after removing him from the sleeping area into another room, the breakouts continued and eventually got worse. I use topical acne medication that help but cannot stop the breakouts. It has been very frustrating. I've also experienced in between bleeding if I do not take the pill at the same exact time everyday, which never happened when I was on Ortho TriCyclen. I cannot wait to get off this medication!

Hello, I can't help but get into the Mirena conversation. Three months after my son was born, I was put on the Mirena IUD. I had a ton of symptoms. My hair was falling out, tired, weak, headaches, stomach cramps, and just all around felt like crap. I went back to the doctors to have the Mirena removed positive that it was the Mirena that was making me feel like crud. The doctor persuaded me to keep it in longer and after much debate and feeling flustered with the doc I agreed for a couple more months. Well symptoms got ten times worse to the point I called and demanded to be seen right away to have it removed. Well after it was removed, I felt better but not completely. I started losing weight, I had periodic migraines which mind you I never had a migraine in my entire life, and felt like a truck ran over my body every morning when I got out of bed. I went to the doctors and they ran a slew of tests and NOTHING! Well about a month after a car ran a stop sign and crashed into me. I hit my head. IT was the best damn thing ever, I got a cat scan and it showed something on my brain. A MRI picked up a right cerebellum hemangioblastoma about 3cms. I had to have brain surgery to have it removed. They decided to do a full scan and I now currently have a kidney hemangioblastoma. Moral of this story. I am 31 years old, I have always been healthy with no migraines, no ailments, nothing. I have the Mirena put in and I feel like shit and they found a brain and kidney tumor. The estimated both my brain and kidney tumor to be about 2 yrs old. THE EXACT TIME I GOT THE MIRENA IN. Hemangioblastomas are either sporadic of VHL. With sporadic, usually you only get 1 and if you get another its later on down the road and my two tumors would not be the same age so it rules that one out. VHL, I had a genetic test done and it came up negative. So anyone of answers for my mishap. I know the Mirena caused this for me. Im just looking for someone with a similar story

I'm 21 years old and I have had the WORST experiences with Loestrin24 Fe. DO NOT TAKE THIS SATANIC PILL. Seriously. This was the first birth control I was ever put on. My doctor put me on it because she said the low dose of estrogen would help my bad cramps (but I really think she was just trying to promote this new pill...because when I started it it was still pretty new). I started this pill before I turned 21, this past March, and for the first few months the only things I noticed were spotting when I didn't take it at the EXACT time everyday (which I soon set an alarm for and did take it at 9 am daily) and also, my breasts definitely got bigger and I didn't have as many breakouts as I used to. I also experienced being really depressed and upset for no reason or being really angry for no reason. After a few months, I started to get headaches a lot more often, have vivid weird dreams that I would remember the next day, I had trouble going to sleep at night (insomnia)...and I looked these up to see if they were symptoms of this pill...and they are. The worst was when I PASSED OUT the day I started my new pack of pills 2 months in a row! I just went to my doctor and had several tests done and they said that they were not positive, but it is a possibility that the passing out was related to my birth control. I passed out the day after the 4 placebo/iron pills (that I did not take, which could have also been a factor) which was the day I started my new pack...when your estrogen shoots up. I take my pills at 9 am and I passed out around noon in both cases. I switched to another birth control last month, but now I am completely off of birth control because the new pill made me lose my appetite and I just do not want to deal with putting these things into my body. I do NOT recommend this birth control to ANYONE. This pill should not be prescribed, especially after reading about how a large percentage of women have such awful experiences with this pill. I'm so excited to be DONE with Loestrin24 Fe and done with birth control in general. To me, birth control is not worth feeling awful all the time and having weird side effects when I could be living problem-free otherwise. I just wanted to share my thoughts and experiences and I hope that perhaps others will have better experiences with this pill than most of us seem to be having!

I've been taking this pill for 6 months. In the beginning it was okay. I had break thru bleeding for a couple days but it would go away. If I missed the exact time to take the pill my period would come on early and I would spot for almost 2 weeks! I decided to look up reviews for this pill online and discovered this site. I never had mood swings and couldn't put my finger on why all of the sudden I became moody. After reading I am convinced that it is this pill making me moody. My poor boyfriend has been catching it for months. Going back to Ovcon

I have been on BC for about 4 years and was last on Ortho. So when I told my GYN I wanted to be back on BC, she said that FEMCON FE was just like Ortho and to take it the exact time everyday. I found it strange that she told me that I had to take it the same time everyday; something I did not have to do on Ortho. So after taking it the first week and still experiencing bloating and other side effects I thought nothing about it. However, when I took my pill later than scheduled two days in a row, I started bleeding. In addition to the bleeding I developed other side effects...same as mentioned by others. After various comments from co-workers about my complaints that were very similar to pregnancy symptoms, I became very concerned and decided to research this pill. After finding this site, I immediately stopped taking the pill. It's been close to 3 weeks now since stopping and I've seen a world of difference. I am done with BC pills, condoms will just have to do. I already suffer from migraines so that is the only debilitating, uncontrollable issue that I am willing to deal with right now.

I am also convinced that GYN's are making their pockets fat by pushing this BC with their patients...a theory that does not sit well with me, because I had a lot of respect for my GYN before she prescribed this packet of side effects to me.

We lost our home to a house fire this past August so when my 8 year old daughter experienced severe depression, night terrors, and was constantly acting out we naturally blamed it on the house fire. The odd thing was that she had the "normal" depression immediately after the fire and started to become herself again. Several months past when she started this severe depression and horrible behavior. We brought her to a psychiatrist because this was just not the depression she was experiencing after the fire. The psychiatrist diagnosed her with post traumatic stress disorder and explained that with children it can take months for this to "come out". Well, with allergy season on us in the South, my daughter started her Singulair treatment the exact time of this recent behavior. Needless to say, we are taking her off the Singulair, I will post again to let you know if she makes a turnaround.

ive been on L24 for about 5 months now...my main reasons for starting were 1. Prevent Pregnancy 2. Be Less Moody
i too experienced the heavy brown discharge for about a solid month in the beginning, my 2nd period was pretty normal flow and lasted about 4 days. my 3rd period was more like the brown discharge. my 4th was maybe 1 1/2 days...and this month i had no period..AHHH...i really can't be pregnant!! fortunately i feel a little better after reading these posts. i have had increased appetite and seem much more depressed that i used to be..i stopped the pack i was on three days ago...i just cant go with out having a period at all..that is my reassurance each month..
but from what some of you have said...not all pills are like this...i guess i will have to talk with my doctor about switching.

I have been taking Synthroid for about 10 years. I have had different issues; but it was not because of the hormone itself. There were times, when I was just in denial and would stop taking it all together and I felt great, too! But, then, eventually I would feel bad again. Here are some things that I have learned throughout the years:

Your levels need to be checked on a regular basis because your levels are constantly changing.

Sometimes the dosage of Synthroid is correct for you, but the dye (whatever color that dosage pill comes in) could be causing certain symptoms. Example: headaches, stomach aches.

You must take your pill at the same exact time everyday! I usually take mine 45 minutes before I get up for the day. Put a bottle of water and your pills by your bed and roll over and take one each morning 30-45 minutes before you actually get up and start your day.

Never use generic!!!!! The chemicals are the same, but the recipe is not.

As always, eat right and exercise.

It is important to know that some people will never stop losing their hair; Some people's goiter will never go down; and some days you will be more tired than others. That is the nature of the disease.

Last but not least, change doctors if you feel that your current doctor is not trust worthy. I have had 3 different endocinologists and they each had different philosophies. Using your OBGYN or Main Doctor is okay for your initial test, but only a specialist can help you maintain this disease. The specialist also test on more levels, unlike your OBGYN.

Hope this helps!!!!

Finally! I knew it. I got on NR when my baby was 9 months old. My libido went from high to zero, literally. I was already on medicine for anxiety/depression, but it seemed to stop working, and I got really bad. I went to the DR. He changed my anxiety medication. I was an emotional mess and told him about the sex drive thing. He said it was due to stress or a problem in the marriage...Now my baby is over two years old, and the sex drive is still non-existent. I know that it started at the exact time I started the Nuva Ring. The DR swears there is no way it is caused by the NR. But I knew that was all it could be. This has had a bad effect on my marriage and my whole life. Thank God I found this site. I gotta get off this thing and get my life back!

I've been on Nuvaring for almost a year, and I absolutely love it! I had been on more than 5 kinds of bc pills in 4 years when I finally switched. My period was never regular, and it always lasted more than a week, with at least a week of severe cramping. In the first month of being on Nuvaring, there was noticably less cramping, and my period only lasted 3 (light-medium) days. Since the first month, my period has come every 28 days, and I can almost pinpoint the exact time it will start. If I have any cramping at all, it's very minor and doesn't require more than two Ibuprofen. Nuvaring has made my life so much easier, and it's so easy to use and so hard to forget. The only side effect I've noticed is an increase in vaginal discharge, and even that isn't unbearable.

Per a couple of folks questions: I recently saw an RN practicing with a Doctor because of loads of side effects that I attributed to Yasmin. most pressing was chest pains I developed in May that came and went, initially on the left side under my breast, and then in June. across my chest. This continues to come and go but seems to be elevated just before my menstrual cycle. To what I figured, they confirmed I had re-developed a heart murmur and advised that it is very common....I had an EKG done and this appeared to be normal but I have since read about Hyperkalemia (excessive potassium in the blood and its symptoms which seem identical to what I experienced while on Yasmin) and the person who wrote that she had pulmonary thrombosis-really concerns me. Can anyone else say that they have experienced lowered heart rate, skipping of beats/irregularity of rhythm on Yasmin?

Can the other people who have advised about the ear blockages say more? I saw a hearing doctor who told me that ortho contraceptives are odo-toxic (which means toxic to the inner ear) and they have known this in their field for a long time but the prescribing doctor and the RN I saw knew nothing about this. I have been off of Yasmin 2 months now (SEE PREVIOUS ENTRIES I MADE UNDER YASMIN RESEARCHER AND JPISANO) but my ears still feel like they have alot of pressure in them and I've just come through almost 3 months of being sick which I never am! I got a cold at the exact time I got off of the Yasmin. Then, started another head cold just this last week?

I am in a bit of a quandry right now because I am in transition career-wise and only carrying major medical so I have been very cautious about seeing Doctors right now but am quite concerned about all the things that happened while taking Yasmin that I am now still suffering from two months later.

I already filed on Federal Drug Administration's website which I highhly recommend. If they have enough well documented troubles, they can take action.

can the person who had PULMONARY THROMBOSIS please write and advise what your symptoms were and how you discovered that you had this and how it was treated?

Thank you.

For eight years I was on Ortho Tri low - no problems until my doctor suggested I change because of the length of time I was on them. I have been taking Yasmin for 4 years now and have had the following side effects which I did not contribute to the Yasmin until I am now looking back after reading these posts:

When I first starting taking Yasmin I had a SEVERE personality change. I used to be a go-getter, confident, aggressive, hard worker, perfectionist, never procrastinated, and an over-achiever. I didn't understand why, but I just stopped caring about how far I got in my career, whether my house was clean, etc. I thought I was just depressed or something? Although I didn't really feel depressed, but more of just a lack of motivation. I started to get diarihea and then an anxiety over being depressed or "not normal" I finally went to the doctor after losing a bunch of weight and he prescriped be with an antidepressent. I never took the antidepressants because I really wanted to try to deal with the issues myself before going to that extreme.

Four years later I'm the same way. I've never been the same since, although the diariahea has subsided. I thought I had just changed when I met my now husband, until I found this site and have read some of these posts and realized it was also the exact time I started taking Yasmin.

Over the last three years I have developed anxiety and a needy, clingy personality, a total anxiety and irrational fear of losing my husband. It started to get so bad that when my husband was away I would get sick to my stomach and at times vomit and become fatigued or have irrational thoughts and panic attacks that I had no control over. It has disrupted my relationship enough that I started to see a therapist and the stress of it all has had horrible side effects on my body.

I am wondering now if this was all because of Yasmin? I am 28 years old and never have had a history of depression, anxiety, etc before this.

I also now have dark spots on my face around my eyes and on my cheeks and forhead, which I new were a side effect of the birth control. I asked my doctor if switching to some other brand would help and he said that any birth control can have that effect if you are in the sun. I just decided if I wanted to be on birth control that I had to start wearing sunscreen while in the sun.

In the last two years I have been to doctors and ENT's for a ear infections and sore throats, which they contribute to allergies. That was something I never had before either. I've never had allergies in my life, but doctors would insist that I had developed them. I never would have linked this to my pills, but I am now!

I found this site only because I was thinking of soon having children and wanted to find out what effects of discontinuing the use would have on my body. I wish I had found it 3-4 years ago!!!

I am going to stop taking Yasmin and maybe birth control all together. I'm afraid switching to another pill would just cause a whole new slew of problems, because lets face it, there is nothing natural about them.

I only hope that I can recover and I thank god for such a wonderful husband because I know at times I was unbearable to deal with: fighting, crying, feeling depressed and insecure. All things that are NOT part of my personality 4 years ago. Hearing that it could all be from my pill is both encouraging (that there is hope for me to stop this behavior now) and heartbreaking that I have basically lost the last 4 years of my life.

Thank you to all who posted to this site!

I am 20 years old and I have only been taking Yasmin for 2 weeks. The symptoms appeared around the third day. I have had nausea every day. I have also had severe headaches. I've noticed that I have been really snappy lately and very emotional. I almost started crying the other day out of the blue. This is the first time I have ever been on birth control. The nausea doesn't come on until after I take my pill each day around 2 pm. I thought it was because I wasn't eating at the exact time I was taking my pill. I find myself eating more often now because it is the only thing that helps with the nausea. It says that the side effects will go away after two months, but I don't know if I can handle too much more of this.

Since taking lisinopril, I have also had a constant dull cough, mostly at night. But also experiencing alot of chest pain, that I am having multiple tests for. It all started at the same exact time of taking this drug. I wonder if its related, since the doctors can't figure out my sever chest pain.

I have been on Yasmin for 3 1/2 years and it has been wonderful! I lost weight initially (just about 7 pounds), I have lighter periods, my period starts at the same exact time each month (practically to the minute!), my skin has been perfectly clear, and no mood swings. I have only 4 pills left and I'm stopping because my husband and I want to TTC soon. I'm slightly worried about coming off of Yasmin b/c life has been so wonderful while I've been on it!
