I had posted this question a few days ago about Desogen.....or birth control pills in general. I wanted to know if there was some association with birth control pills and cholesterol. I reciently had a cholesterol test done and one done eight months ago and the results are quite different going from normal range to low high. I am forty, very healthy with diet and excersize, although I do have a father with high cholesterol who had a bipass at age 63, also extremely active and healthy with diet. My doctor is quick to put me on medication. Of all places, I opened up this months Glamour magazine and found a tiny little article about a study on the association with birth control and hightened cholestrol, just a theory possibly.

Hello Everyone,
First I would like to address those who had terrible reactions to the drug. My heart goes out to you and please don't be offended when I tell you this: Life is a risk and when it comes to science there are never guaranties. With anything you will have a side effect good or bad. You will be a Guinea pig no matter who you are or what drug you take, because everyone reacts differently. Some good and Some Bad.
Second, to those of you who are looking into this for a cure, sorry unfortunately like cancer this is a reoccurring disease. The drug is to help calm your system down and to give your body a rest. I would have to say Lupron saved my life. After all the years of pain and suffering, and hospital visits that occurred due to the severe pain. After having surgery to remove these areas and the doctor who recommended this drug to me was a life saver. I was on it for a year and was put on the NuvaRing afterwards and had mood swings and hot flashes, BUT Ladies...No PERIODS and NO MORE PAIN!! Yeah I gained a little weight, but that was water weight, you can go to your local health food store to buy herbal diuretics and exercise...excercise. I agree Lupron isn't for everyone, but either is another drug out there. You take a chance with any chemical you put in your body. It is HOPE that encourages us to try these medications. I have to say 10 years later I had a beautiful little boy and yes they say even pregnancy gives you relief, but unfortunately for me I had a C-section. Causing me more scar tissue and a reoccurred of severe endometriosis. Due to funds and no insurance I have had to be put on a sister drug called Depo-Provera. It is similar side effects, but ladies take my advice. Lupron isn't for everyone, but I think if you are a good candidate for the drug, try it. It might make a difference in your life...I pray it is positive!!

I have been on Celexa for 4 months now. At first, I lost about 6-8lbs. But just a few weeks ago I began to put on weight fast. I noticed that my appetite was out of control. I was informed by my doctor that such a low dosage (20mg) wouldn't cause such a reaction. But unfortunately I have gained about 15lbs in a matter of 3-4 weeks. I exercise regularly, but find that I barely have the energy to get thought the workouts, and when I get home, all I want to do is eat. Does anybody know how to lose weight while being on Celexa?

I have had the mirena in for over 9 months, since then I have gained 26 pounds !!! I weigh more now then I did when I was 9 months pregnant !! My breasts have gone from a DD to a triple D, even when I was breast feeding for 5 months they never were this big ! I go months without a period and then when I get one its horrrible cramping and the bleeding seems like its never going to go away, sex drive has gone way down & its also painful no matter what position you try !, my midwife put me on prescription diet pills to help me get my weight in control, i couldnt believe it , nothing has changed my diet and excersize are the same, also I have had major mood swings and repeated yeast infections that my doc said are from the mirena. I have mine taken out on Oct. 3rd I cant wait this thing just isnt for me !!
To all the others with the same reactions to mirena, after it was taken out did you start to loose weight ?

I was definetely warned by my cardiologist that I would feel cough symptoms. He also told me NOT to get pregnant. I am concerned that I am on Lasix and although the recommendations are to take 6 - 8 glasses of water while on Lisonopril, this is contraindicative to the Lasix which already gets rid of excess water. My newest concern is that I have read weight gain as one of the symptoms and if I start gaining weight, this will cause pressure on my heart. HAS ANYONE ELSE EXPERIENCED WEIGHT GAIN?

I was given 14 days of 500mg for pneumonia. On day 5 I went through my house and got rid of everthing that is unique to me. I searched for my life insurance policy "just in case". I called my dr and said I was feeling horrible but I couln't describe it well and I thought it was the pn. They just said it could take weeks before I felt better. By day 10 I was feeling much better physically but still very depressed. Since I normally exercise a lot, I figured some excersize might lighten my mood. I didn't push at all, but now on day 23 my body is racked with pain. I have tendenitis in my left elbow. Shooting pains in my left shoulder, severe, almost unbearable sciatica both shooting pains and numbness running down my leg and overall joint pain from head to toe. My dr told me to take 4-6x the normal dose of ibuprofen. Today I found a new doctor.

I have been diagnosed with ADHD,I've been on Wellbutrin SR, for one week now and started with 150mg, This week I am to double my dose, I feel light headed all the time, a little lack of sleep and small headaches that move around, fade in and out alot.also Heart Pains now and then too. I've had alcohol and my Dr. said it would be o.k in moderation, when the instructions say not to, So i'll stop. I don't want a seizure. I'm in school and i'm not sure I should be testing this now, as i HAVE TO PASS, all i need is help with attention, not really depression, my question is should I be on this now or at all, what can i expect in the future, and are holistic alternatives good or better? Is it safe to excersize or will i get a heart attack at 23---PLEASE ANY INFO IS APPRECIATED.

I am so glad I found this site. I have only been on Zocor for three weeks and have pain in every muscle from head to toe. It burns at times and at other times even my skin hurts. My vision has gotten hazy. I can't even open a bottle of water without help. I am only 42. I was put on 40mg every evening - because of being diabetic and the dr wanted my level to be at 100 or lower. I am in a lot of pain. The dr told me to stop taking the Zocar and sent me to the urgent care for lab work. Now we just have to wait for results. After what I have read here tonite, I am going to avoid statins and work on the diet and excersize aspect. It worked with using cinnamon for my diabetes.

Gypsi,
I have seen Doctor after Doctor no one knows what is causing the dibilitation of my body I am only 35 this has been happening on and off since 19. I have no idea what is wrong. They check my liver , bones and kidneys once a year I have MRI every three months. I have at times not been able to see and then go to 20/20. I think the depression is going to be what kills me to be honest I have and can live with the pain and handicapped problems but being sad and fighting to not be is har. I am however developing a new problem and think it is the prednisone I have sharp stabbing pain in my neck where ones thyroid glands would be. And I am the fattest I have ever been I am not able to excersize much because I have just bought a exersize ball I am going to try it.
I guess I will stop whining ... thanks for listening

Post your symptoms since stopping Yasmin!!!
Hey everyone it's Kay21 here and I just wanted to post my 3 month off Yasmin update. Because stopping the pill is a hard decision, I figured we should all post are updates here to help/support those who are planning to stop or who have recently stopped Yasmin.
I have been off of Yasmin since April 17. As some of you already know, I was experiencing horrible side effects while on Yasmin for 3 years (particularly stomach problems, vaginal dryness, muscle cramps, increased blood pressure and heart rate and anxiety).
The first 1 month off of Yasmin was okay. In fact, I felt the best I had ever felt in a while. My blood pressure and heart rate decreased and the migraines and muscle cramps went away. But when I hit the 2 month (8 week) mark, I felt HORRIBLE. I was severely depressed and anxious. I was crying all the time and felt a severe sense of DOOM! The physical symptoms also started to become problematic. The acne increased and I started growing more facial hair. The worse symptom, however, was that I started losing a ton of hair. I would lose stray hairs all day (probably about 200 a day). Since I have hit the three month mark, the hair loss has gotten MUCH WORSE! Now I am losing CLUMPS of hair all day. I have seen several doctors about this. Some say it's because of stress and a few (a derm, GYN and endo) say that hiar loss is common after stopping bcp. I have already loss about 1/3 of my hair.
I am also really concerned, because I have not had a period since April 22. So my doctor has put me on provera for 10 days to induce a period.
For those who have stopped Yasmin, what have your symptoms been (i.e. increased acne, weight gain, anxiety, etc.). Has anyone experienced hair loss? How long did it take to get a period???
Thanks...

After taking the hell that is Depo-Provera for 5 years, I switched to Yasmin 8 months ago. It took about 5 months to get the Depo out of my system and in the last 3 months i have noticed increased energy, improved acne and decreased moodiness. In the past 8 weeks I have lost 18 lbs (a welcome side effect after gaining 43 lbs on Depo Provera) and am down to 122 lbs again(without diet or excersize)! WHOO HOO! And yes, I have had negative side effect. These include increased anxiety, but i can deal with that. And increased heart rate while on my feet and running at work. But after weighing the benefits I am happier everyday that I am on Yasmin!!!

Oh my god! I just called my gyn to put me back on Yasmin because I was on TriNessa (just as evil as Yasmin). About 3 years ago I had my daughter after trying for 8 years to get pregnant (I have PCOS). My periods were irregular and I was concerned about ovarian cancer as my chances are higher due to the PCOS. My gyn suggested yasmin. I took it for about 3 months. During which time I bleed almost constantly. The doc said I needed to give it more time to even out. I started having severe leg cramps and rapid heart rate. One night, I started having really strange chest pains and was vomitting, needless to say I was concerned of a heartattack. My family doc sent me for a stress test to check my heart, it came back ok. I even mentioned to my doc that I was feeling more depressed and that the leg cramps and heart problem seemed to start with taking Yasmin and he just dismissed it!! My heart palpitaitons and leg cramps stopped when I stopped Yasmin but my depression contined with the new prescribed pill TriNessa and even more symptoms occurred such as extreme exhaustion (I can't seem to get enough sleep), unmotivated, antisocial, aggitated, tearful, no sex drive, weight gain, bloated, heavy periods... I just feel horrible and unhappy. So to any one who is getting off Yasmin do not, I repeat do not take TriNessa! Now that I realize that my other symptoms are validated with the use of Yasmin, I'm not going to take that either! Does anyone who has PCOS know of a good BCP to take to regulate your periods without making you insane?

My 11 year old had severe asthma but has seemed to grow out out of it. Our doctor had him evaluated by a pulminary expert to access his asthma. My son had a 30% oxygen exchange in the tiny capilaries of the lungs. I was so horrified. He had not had an asthma attack in 2 years. He immediately went on Advair...and our family life has become horrible. He is angry...he is defiant. He has bad dreams. He doesn't feel good. He now weighs 135 lb! The kids tease him. We have him enrolled in sports to excersize his lungs and get his weight down. He feels bad because he's not as fast as the other kids who are 70-80 lbs. He is always tired...and always confused. The Pulminary guy spends 6 minutes with us...scares us...gives our son a drug that is turning our life upside down. We went to his pediatirician and after 2 year he is now off Advair. This is a new development. I am seeing anger and depression now from him. When you guys went off the Advair, was there a period where your body had to balance itself back? I hope this anger/depression are is just a stepping stone from Advair to a happy life.

This site is such a relief. I was on Advair for about a 6 months in total. I had many of the same adverse effects listed by countless people on this site. I decided on my own (after my allergist told me that Advair was virtually side effect free - he did tell me to make sure to rinse my mouth vigorously) to quit taking it and go back to just using my albuterol inhaler when needed. Advair definitely helped me breathe, but I developed this weird metallic taste in my mouth that has taken forever to go away. Now I only get it every now and then. I have two questions - I am HIGHLY allergic to cats. Going to Wisconsin to visit my wife's family, and to put it mildly, her Mom has many cats. On advair I won't have any allergic reaction. I was thinking about taking it for the 5 days I am in Wisconsin (although I am concerned that advair will cause that metallic taste to come back with a vengeance). Are there any dangers from hopping on/hopping off the advair?
Second - does anyone know if there are any long term side effects of using an albuterol inhaler? I probably use it once a day. Excersize and cold weather tend to bring on an attack...and of course, cats...

Thank god for this website. I just finished my yellow pills and I will never go on the white again. I am 23 years old and have been on yasmin for about a year and half now. I started for my skin (and yes, my skin cleared and my breasts got bigger), but my energy level is through the floor (and I excersize at least four times a week). I get the heart palpitations, I am ALWAYS thirsty. I have also gained weight in my mid section like others have reported. My sex drive has steadily been decreasing until now I never think about sex. Ever. I am like an android--except when I am on my period (i.e. NOT taking yasmin) and then my libido comes back.
I will "report back" after some time off the pill to see if these things are related...but I have never been like this before, so I am hoping that my life will balance back.

I just started this pill after being on a multi level pill due to my ovarian cysts. My period came sooner and lasted a lot longer. The pain was unbearable, but who knows if that has bearing on this pill or my cyst. It was heavier. Thank goodness I haven't gained any weight as of yet, I excersize 4 times a week and have a very restricted diet as it is! But I have noticed something unusual. I have post nasal drip. If I bend over at any time of the day or night, there goes my nose...drip, drip, drip. I've been on the pill for the past 16 years...only since I've been on this one do I experience this.

I'm reading all the side effects people are writing and I don't have it that bad I could only get headaches and tiredness when I eat too much sugar and white flour, but I've always been like that, I bled in the beginning but since september only had my period once after the initial bleeding. Initially I didn't gain weight until summer came and I binged- i gained ten pounds lost 5 pounds from dieting and excersizing but i think at this point the other five pounds are from muscles as i look just as thin as before and i have been excersizing a lot, I do however find it impossible to lose below this point, I can eat between 1200-1500 calories a day plus excersize and nothing happens, it's exasperating but I guess I can't complain. I actually think the mirena helped me chemically as far as no more post partum blues and I am more sexually aroused than before, which is great cuz before I had no interest.
