I took aldactone (50mg / day) for a little over 6 years for the excess hair growth associated with PCOS. It did make the hair issue much better. About a year into taking it I wasn't sure it was working, so I stopped taking it. All my old facial hair grew back while off of it, so I started back up again.
I had no problems with the medication at all - or so I thought. I have had dizzy spells for years, especially after standing up from sitting or squatting, to the point where I would almost fall over or black out. For 6 years I went on like this, thinking it was no big deal until I went to a new doctor and he mentioned that my blood pressure was low 90/60 (Usually the nurse would say "you're BP is low, that's good") and he asked me if I ever got dizzy spells and I said yes all the time. He told me to stop taking the spironalactone NOW because REALLY LOW bp can cause damage to your organs. Now that I have stopped, my face is more hairy but I'm not dizzy anymore.
It works for PCOS, but keep an eye on your BP.

Blurred vision, 15 lb weight gain, irritability, insomnia, excess hair growth (exacerbating my PCOS), nausea, nightmares, fuzzy thinking, bad memory, lose train of thought mid-sentence. Been on 100mg for 3 months. Doctor upped to 200mg but after 3 days on it and 3 days of no sleep, I dropped back down. Helps a bit with my depression, but I feel sort of numb. Not as bad as on some, but not good.

I was on Diane for 2 years and was told it is not safe to take for more then a year...it should never be taking long term, although I have had great success with it when it came to excess hair growth on the face and belly...its fine hair but still it really bothered me so yes diane does help a lot with that and i never had any problems on it however my doctor just gave me Yasmin and i am reading all these awful things about it it kind of makes me afraid to try it but my doctor told me it is similar to diane 35 and if i did good on that i shouldn't have any issues with yaz....anyone have any good experiences with Yasmin? I wish I could stay on Diane 35 worked soo well...
