Hi there. I am so glad I found this website too. My mirena was fitted in Dec 2005. Since then I have been on anti-depressants twice. I have terrible mood swings, am constantly ratty with my two young sons and my husband, I feel like I am constantly stressed out and definitely feel like I can't relax. I am always shattered. I feel my heart "tremmoring" quite a lot. My hips and top half of my legs ache most days. I feel bloated quite a lot too, like the feeling before a period, or even slight labor pains. I have a constant vaginal discharge, and have slight bleeding after intercourse. I had convinced myself I had cancer from some of these symptoms, but have just had smear test results and all is fine. So it must all be down to the mirena. The only thing is though I am SOOOOOO scared of having it removed, frightened of the pain and of the bleeding immediately after! I would like to hear from people who have had it removed, did it hurt and was the blood loss severe?

I was on the NuvaRing for about 6 months. When I first switched from the pills to the ring I was completely very happy. After about two months I experienced the same kinds of things previously mentioned: weight gain, depression, no sex drive, headaches, and getting hot/sweaty during the night. In addition to this my periods changed. I started have bad cramps again and passing large clots (which I had never done before). My periods starting being longer and heavier. I talked to the doctor and went off the NuvaRing.
Since then I still experience problems. My cycle became very unregular which was not surprising at first but after about 4 months my doctor was starting to become concerned. I would have a period for two weeks and then start again after anywhere from a week in a half to three weeks. On November 10th I started my period and it did not stop until the doctor put me back on the pill after Christmas. This weekend I had another horrible period, massive clots, extremely heavy and so much cramping I could not move and ended up throwing up. My OB is very concerned about the changes the NuvaRing took on me.
If you are thinking of using the NuvaRing, please read up on all the side effects and talk with your doctor. Make sure you understand the risks. I never had any issues other than some slight weight gain when on was on the pills. My periods became light and shorter. Since I started as a teen I have always been very regular, but had lots of cramping and pain during my first couple days. At this point I miss those days and seriously wish I would have never used the NuvaRing.

HI, i too have to say i am kind of relieved after reading this website that i am not alone with my experiences of the kenalog injection. I was given kenalog injections to treat hayfever, although i wasn't told the name of the injection. They did help and i probably would of continued this year if it wasn't for the side effects.
I was told that to have one a yr was safe, then just before xmas i noticed a dent on my hip, this started getting larger and looked almost like scare tissue, I too was worried i had some sort of flesh eating disorder. The dent is still there and i will never have that injection again. I also have been experience problems with my hips and pain around my coxis,i am not sure if this too is related to the injection. I was told by my doctor who is very good that the kenalog had eaten my fat tissue causing a dent and that it will get better in time.

I have just come across this site, while looking to find out why I have been experiencing heart palpitations for the past two months - out of the blue!!! and usually "exercise" induced. I had some tests and have been told they are Premature Atrial Contractions "PACs". I started taking Yasmin in April, after having tried others over the past year (tri-cyclen lo and alesse) which did not work for me as the progestin was not strong enough. I am in my 40s and never took the pill before. Yasmin was great, it significantly reduced my "physical" pms (severe inflamation, severe bloating, severe sore breasts) which I experience for 2-3 weeks a month. However, sometime in mid to late June, I started getting palpitations/tremors out of the blue. The first episode freaked me out and lasted for about two weeks. At first I thought it was allergy medication mixed with my thyroid med, which can happen - but I cut out the allergy meds and still got them. They seem to come about 6hrs to a day after I fexercise/figure skate and they last from 2 to 5 five days. It's very irritating and nerve wracking, and I feel very agitated. I am also out of breath more than usual when walking up stairs, a little light headed and have some tightness in the chest. My legs also are weak, which makes no sense given my exercise regimen. I then lowered my thyroid replacement from .125 synthroid to .100 - too much thyroid med can cause some palpitations. Anyone who has mistakenly taken a second thyroid pill having forgotten that they already took one will understand. Even with the lower dose I am still getting the palpilations. I am totally at a loss as to why all of a sudden this is happening to me (perhaps perimenopause??). I have had the odd flutter here and there in my live, but nothing like this. It just doesn't make any sense ag ll. Can one's health just change like this overnight?. I am otherwise healthy, slim, have "lower" blood pressure (apprx 100-90/70-60)I skate 3 to 5 times a week, I have a full time job and yes I do push myself, but this is getting ridiculous. The only thing I can attribute it to is the Yasmin, ... but my symptoms only started after a few months not instantly, whereas it would seem that most of the the women here noticed the side effects faster. I hate to stop the Yasmin because I will have to return to pms "hell", but I suppose I will give it a try to see if the palpitations subside. At this point, I have been offered a low dose "beta blocker" and have refused. I am stunned to think that all of a sudden I have heart issues, especially since my Dr has always kidded me my that I will never have heart problems with my blood pressure. I will stop the Yasmin tonight and post another message in a few weeks one it is out my system. Here's hoping it is the Yasmin.

Anyone experience problems with drinking beer, wine, alcohol? Beer is undesirable since it tastes flat. Last night drank it anyway celebrating my son's baseball win with the team. Did't even finish the beer because it just tasted so bad. Felt awful all day today as a migraine ensued. Few weeks ago drank Wine. It tasted okay, yet I woke up during the night violently ill, diarrhea and vomiting (great - huh?)- So now I am afraid to drink alcoholic beverages. Am I alone here? has any one else had this problem?

Yes,
This was also a side affect for me too. Almost finished my marriage because i was no longer interested in sex. It was my husband who first suggested to me that the yasmin might be causing my problems.

The progesterone used in yasmin is similar to an anti-androgen. Could this be the reason it affects some womens sex drive?
If anybody has any answers i would love to hear them.

One month i did not start my pack on the correct day so i decided not to take any at all that month. The difference that month in the way i felt was huge. The cyst in my breast was not so painful and i was not angry with everybody that month.

However i still took it the next month and i went back to being paranoid, unwell and completely disinterested in sex. Finally my husband told me that i was unbearable to live with while on this pill.

Believe me the difference i feel since i stopped taking it is unbelievable. I feel normal again after being on it for three years. No more paranoia, healthy interest in sex and i lost 10 pounds in the first pill free month. All of the extra weight had gone on around my tummy and was completly uncharacteristic for me as i am a vegetarian.

I think i have mentioned this before but yasmin worked great for me at first. After about one year i started to experience problems like anxiety and breast cysts among other problems. I was prescribed xanax to help with my anxiety but realised that was not the answer.
I also noticed that my once perfect vision was starting to deteriorate. It got so bad that i could barely read. When i had my eyes checked the optician told me that i needed glasses. I have recently had my eyes checked again and my vision is perfect.

Nobody can tell me that this is a coincidence.

My biggest guilt trip is that i told my sister how great it was and she also started to take it. She has been taking it for about a year and is now starting to have anxiety problems too as well as her skin breaking out in the pill free week. This is an exact pattern of what happened to me.

My best wishes go to any woman who is going through this at the moment because it takes a while before you actually realise there is a connection between your problems and the medication you are taking.
Of course, as suggested by the person who replied to my post on steadyhealth.com, it will not have these effects on every woman.
But the fact that it has these extreme effects on some of us should surely mean that more investigation needs to be done.
Good luck to you all.

hi everyone.
i too have some trouble during ovulation/mesnstruation with nervousness, shaking, fear etc. and my agoraphobia flares up. i have been taking the following for the last month and have felt sooom uch better. magnesium 400mg,calcium 800mg, vitamin b complex tablet and an additional dose of b6 of 50mg along with a multivitamin. apparently birth control pills can cause a depletion of the b6 vitamin which causes many of the symptoms experienced by some yasmin users like, anxiety, panic attacks, dizzyness, brain fog, muscle cramps, sickness, bowel problems etc. also magnesium and calcium become depleted, these minerals are essential for a healthy body and mind. b6 is directly involved in converting tryptophan into serotonin so it stands to reason that if you are deficient in this vitamin then you are going to experience problems both physically and mentally,it is worse around the time of ovulation/menstruation as the natural hormone shift can take up more of your b6 reserves. try improving your diet and taking supplements for a while and see if it helps,it won't hurt you to try. i totally sympathise with the hell that is caused by the panic attacks, anxiety, chest pains, aching muscles, headaches and all the other horrible side effects that a lot of use have suffered whilst on yasmin, but have faith that your body is an amazing thing,if you give it the tools it will heal itself, eat well, sleep well and take supplements for a while and i am sure that we will all be able to put this nightmare behind us and live the lives we want!

Hey ladies... so I've just been to 2 doctors in the past few days. About my problems... well, the one jackass doctor is treating me for Depression, which I sort of disagree with.. he would not take my opinion about MYself. The gyno said that there's a really small percentage, like less than 1%, of patients who experience problems with sleeping while taking ANY birth control pill. That guy's an ass, too. I'm not trying to offend anybody, but these doctors, especially male docs, do not understand anything a woman goes through. They know it through their textbooks. And the gyno man actually had to get his Encyclopedia of Birth Control book out to look the information up. That was a waste of a copay. I could've done the exact same thing...and what he told me was what I already knew. He would not let me speak, not explain to him what the other doc told me... And after waiting almost 2 hours to see him, I was pretty much furious last night... and well, did not get much sleep again from it. So, yeah, I guess it's Depression time. And the doc I saw today, who prescribed me meds for it, gave me Lexapro...and one of the occurring side effects, a major one, is sleeplessness/restlessness. Go figure. My advice would be to see a female doctor...someone you trust, someone you can rely on for answers. And try to speak up when you have that chance to. I tried but was unsuccessful. I really don't think I have Depression, but I'm gonna have to see how these new meds work. Good luck, everyone. Keep in touch.

In response to those who praise the virtues of Lipitor, I will tell you that I was on 10 mg/per day regimen for the past six and a half years. I first noticed bizarre weakening of my legs last summer but because I am 78, I at first attributed this to old age, but because the onset was so rapid and unexpected, I discounted what was happening at being due to my age. Then on Dec. 6, I was awaked by pain in my lower left leg so severe that I was literally crying. I could only hobble to my doctor the following day and he, by way of response to my question about Lipitor, suggested I stop taking it. He also gave me a prescription (thank God) for vicadin without which I do not believe I could have survived until today. I am still unable to walk more than a quarter mile or remain on my feet for more than a half hour or so. In looking back now, I began having sleep problems about four years ago, sleep apnia being suggested. However, my sleep doctor also said that I had RLS (restless leg syndrome) for which he prescribed chlonazapam. I have had recurring problems these past few years with my legs cramping up when I would drive any distance. When I recently informed my cardiologist of these experiences, he pretty much brushed me off by saying at while 2-3% of Lipitor users experience problems, on the whole it is a beneficial drug. In other words, they know that some folks are going to experience problems, but that's just too bad. What happened to the medical adage, "Above all, do no harm."

I am absolutely relieved to find this website and all these side-effects you won't readily find on www.advair.com. A couple months ago I went to see a pulmonary specialist after having recurrent bronchitis for the last 4 years. He prescribed a nasal spray (I don't have the name in front of me..) to take for one month, and gave me a 28-dose Advair Diskus 250/50 with the instruction that I should start taking it IF I feel symptoms of bronchitis coming on and then take 2 puffs/day. On 01/15/04 I started taking Advair (today is 01/28/04) and either yesterday or the day before I felt I had to blow my nose and when I did, the tissue was covered with blood. Since then I've had 3 or 4 more nosebleeds. (Before Advair I think I've had maybe 5 nosebleeds in my whole life.) I called Advair's "if you experience problems.."-number (888.825.5249) and they told me that either 3 or 4% of people in clinical trials experienced nosebleeds / epistaxis. Right now I'm awaiting my doctor's recommendation as to whether the benefits outweigh the side-effects. I've also felt tightness in my legs and my skin has felt very dry the last few days. So depending on what my doctor tells me this afternoon, I think I'm done with Diskus.

I've been taking Synthroid (Levothyroxine) for about 17 YEARS. I was diagnosed with Grave's Disease, and opted for the radioactive iodine. After two years of trying to control the disease with PTU (which has serious bone marrow depletion side effects) I decided to go for the one thing I knew would work. Of course, the treatment with the radioactive iodine is very tough to estimate, and I went from hyperactive to hypoactive. As a result, I'll take 200mcg (0.2mg) for life.

I think it's important to understand that Synthroid is not a drug. It is a hormone. When you take Synthroid, you're engaging in hormone replacement therapy (HRT). You really won't experience side effects from the hormone, but you will experience problems if the amount of hormone is not within a "normal" range. Too much or too little will be a problem for anyone. What's critical here is to take the hormone at the same time every day (without food -- calcium will block its absorption), and monitor your hormone level frequently to establish a solid baseline.

The hormone will take days, or even weeks to reach its peak, and the duration is variable. BECAUSE IT'S A HORMONE, TAKING MORE OR LESS THAN IS NECESSARY WILL PRODUCE UNDESIRABLE RESULTS. Any "side effects" are really the result of improper dosing.

Having said all of that, I've never had a problem with Synthroid -- once my optimal level was determined. I worked closely with my MD and together decided that I was best at the upper side of "normal." I've made only one change in the 17 years, and that was to increase the dose.

Here's something to consider: If it weren't for this hormone, and the science behind HRT, I probably would have died years ago.
