feeling some relief to have validation to why i have been feeling this way.

i thought i was going the way of father (heart attack in his 40s) due to many symptoms over the past month similar to heart issues, except the leg cramps. i thought of my mother in-law, her diabetes, poor circulation.

i knew i had just had a thorough heart evaluation with my doctor last spring and everything was fine, except my hereditary cholesterol. frustrating. he had prescribed lipitor at that time. last week while driving to my office Christmas party i thought about driving straight to emergency.

food always seemed to help, as well lots of water. I think because i had liquids when eating, dehydration is what was being addressed.

on my own, i stopped lipitor (only prescribed medication i take) four days ago. no more nausea, no more light headiness (briefly early morning yesterday), no more weakness, leg pain decreased; these were my main symptoms.

I also experienced occasional foot cramps, general aches, heaviness in my esophagus immediately upon eating (thought of my mom with her hiatal hernia) indigestion maybe.

I had one episode a month ago (about the time all this started) where out of the blue i thought my legs were going to fall from under me, they became tingly like they were going to sleep, i was light headed as if i could faint. i had just finished a relaxing picnic by a natural stream, on a beautiful sunny day.

doctors who prescribe this medication should be more aware of these side affects. seems they are either not listening to their patients, or do not have the knowledge of these side affects, and in result, should not be allowed to prescribe.

My concern now is how long the discomfort in my legs will last, though they have improved. to make sure no serious damage has occurred,
i will see my cardiologist in two weeks to have blood work.

I would suggest to anyone who has not contacted their physician since stopping the statin, to do so. print a copy of this site and bring it with you!

I am currently 58 years old and lead a very active, healthy lifestyle. I began taking 10mg of Zocor, along with 1000mg of niacin in the summer of 2004 to reduce cholesterol (251) and triglycerides (571). The therapy dramatically improved my blood tests, however, within 6 weeks, I began to experience minor chronic skin infections, both fungal and bacterial. They were easily controlled with topical over the counter type medications, but they were annoying. At no time was this new condition linked to the statin/niacin therapy by my doctor(s). The infections became progressively worse over the next 3 years, and evolved into chronic folliculitis in my scalp, neck, and face, cystic acne, and persistent fungal infections that were becoming more difficult to control. In addition, I began to get chronic eye infections. It was as if my immune system was becoming ineffective. I stopped taking niacin in December of 2007 and the symptoms immediately lessened. I stopped taking Zocor in March of 2008 and within 2 weeks, all the skin problems and eye infections completely ended. My health was restored completely and I am glad to have put that whole mess behind me! I have been taking Omega 3 supplements to control my cholesterol and triglycerides and have had results that equaled the Zocor and Niacin therapy, with cholesterol at 160, triglycerides at 91, and a favorable HDL/LDL ratio. My physician is skeptical, but I know that my body was not functioning correctly with the statin/niacin treatment. I have found anecdotal reports from others who seem to have experienced a change in their immune system, but no mention of this as a side effect by the medical establishment.

I'm a 43 y/o male, on Toprol-Xl (25mg) and Diovan(80-mg) for high blood pressure. I've been on Diovan since it hit the market (no side effects at all) but recently developed a fast heart rate with no explaination. I saw a cardiologist and he put me on 25mg of Toprol-XL once each day. It's been 7 weeks and I'm fairly well adjusted with few minor side effects (slow pulse, cold extremities, weird chest feelings when the Toprol starts to wear off) and a major side effect (lack of sleep and weird dreams).

I read an article that Toprol-XL is time released and the medication has it's peak affect 8-hours after taking the dose. I was taking the medication with dinner, but would then wake up at 3:00 am, wide awake, couldn't fall back to sleep. I now take the medication with lunch and my sleep patterns have improved considerably. My incredibly, sometimes scary, dreams have tapered off too. My blood pressure is picture perfect (usually 115-125 over 70 to 80) and the bursts of rapid heartbeats have stopped altogether (I had an echo stress test, echocardiogram, blood work, 3 EKG's) and all were normal. My cardiologist said all my side effects are normal and that if i couldn't tolerate them he would switch my beta blocker.

Have chronic back pain and have been on the the 100 mg patch for about 5-6 years and it's great. No side effect. Except now after getting into a car accident-not my fault-the courts are trying to take my license permanently-or
while I am on the the patches. Everything else makes me sick. Don't know what I am going to do. Live alone with cat and dog-outside of town-need physical therapy 3 times a week.....

My mother has been taking this medication for quite some time now, without any explaination. She doesn't have seisures or anything like that, so why would the doctor prescribe such a medicaton? I can tell you since she has been taking this medication she can't keep her eyes open 24/7. She sleeps in her chair all day, then she goes to bed and sleeps all night, not much of a life for anybody! She does this 24/7 and I am not exagerating either! Do I just take her off the medicaton or do we have to ride this out, I just don't know what to do? Talking to the Doctor is like talking to someone with a hole in their head, if you get my drift.
Thanks for your time.

I have been on warfarin for about two weeks as blood clots were found in my lung. I would like to hear from others who have developed rash ( non itching) on arms and now legs. My doctor does not seem to think it is linked to the medication, but really there is no other explaination.

I've been taking fosamax for a year plus and for a while I had increased pain in my right shoulder which caused me to have trouble lifting it up or certain movement. After awhile not able to endure the pain I seek medical help and was told I had frozen shoulder. The doctors don't have and explaination for why it happen. It's verrry painful and i've been in therapy for a few months with little results.

Good grief! All I'm looking for is something on Calan /Verapamil causing gum tenderness so I can explain to my dentist that my gums may be tender because of the medication since he doesn't have an explaination for the problem. It's just one of those things I'm not complianing about anything ,but this site seems to act as thought one wants to sue or something ! I've been taking this medication for years and have no complaints I just want to know from another source if it's possibly the cause. As the info I get from the pharmacy states it can cause this problem. Can someone varify this??? LLE

Am quest # 4859. After months off lipator, I tried 10 mg. for
the past ten days and again started having severe leg cramping.
Have noticed blurry vision and went to opthamologist and he
said I had some irregularity around both corneas that he was
stumped at and had know explaination for. Off lipator today and with eye drop lubricant only will recheck with optho doc
in a week to see if it has cleared before going to a conrea specialist. Blurry vision seems to be helped by otc eye drops
recommended by doc. He thinks it should get better. Will keep posted. Will inform him about Lipator side effect.
