I am a 37 year old man who weighed approximately 188lbs when I prescribed 20mg of Lipitor and fish oil to combat my high triglycerides(437) and my high total cholesterol(212) in August of 2009. I have a high stress job and was experiencing occasional chest pain and heart palpitations. In addition, I have psoriasis and psoriasis arthritis and take Enbrel injections weekly. Prior to taking Lipitor, I had normal liver function tests.

At the same time that I began the fish oil and Lipitor, I began to change my eating habits and began a regular exercise routine. I began to feel better and lose weight. I was enthused about my progress. I took my Lipitor at night, however, I found it difficult to get up in the mornings and I was a little more tired than normal.

Roughly 3 months after beginning Lipitor, I developed a condition of EXTREME thirst. Blood tests from my doctor revealed elevated Liver Levels. His first inclination was that it was Lipitor so I stopped taking it ASAP. A subsequent test a week later indicated little improvement in my liver tests. My doctor suggested we give it two more weeks to test it. I just got my tests back and they actually increased!(ALT 197, AST 90, ALP 571).

My cardiologist does not have anything to suggest other than the possibility of a fatty liver, gall stones, or liver disease. His recommendation was that I get an ultrasound next week of my liver and meet with a GI doctor.

My excessive thirst and fatigue continues. I am not jaundiced but I do frequently experience dark urine. I weigh myself every morning and my weight is now down to 174. I seem to be losing very gradual weight now though my eating habits have returned to my old routine. This worries me. I am now worried that this drug triggered something terrible in my system. Does anyone have any advice?

I am on day 9 of Topamax. I have Depression and ADD the is controlled by 300 mg of Wellbutrin and 30 mg of Adderall daily. I always felt like this drug regimen was working but I was still having some days where I couldn't shake the blues. I saw my prescribing doc and he suggested Topamax. He started me on 25 mg and in a few days I will increase to 50 mg where it will stay if things go well. I am a 34 y/o woman, married and a preschool teacher.

So far, my side effects have been EXTREME thirst. It's so bad that my lips are actually a little chapped. As far as taste goes, things don't necessarily taste bad to me as much as I just don't have an appetite at all. I have lost 5 pounds in 9 days! However, all soda tastes flat to me. I have tried everything and it's all just flat. In the grand scheme of things, who NEEDS soda? My husband says that I have been a little sensitive lately but, I have always been an overly-sensitive person so, I don't know how much faith I put into that. But, as far as my cognitive abilities, balance issues, and energy? I feel more energetic than usual and I don't feel at a loss for words at all. I also feel even more patient with the children in my classroom. Oh, I have been nauseous off and on as well, which contributes to my loss of appetite.

Now, my dosage will increase in 5 days from 25 mg to 50 mg and I hope that I don't feel different after that increase. When and if I do, I will be right back here posting. I would like to thank those that have posted. It has given me so many good things to look for and has put my mind at ease a little. Good luck to all and best of health!

Horrible experience with amoxicillin, which was prescribed for a nasty sinus infection. Major nausea, fatigue, feeling lightheaded and dehydrated. All I wanted to do was to sleep. Missed 2 weeks from work. The nausea was completely debilitating. But curiously, get hungry at the same time was feeling nauseated. When I do get some food, I have to force myself to eat it. Also had major headaches. Got sort of paranoid that something else was seriously wrong with me!
Have been off amoxicillin for a little over a week. Feeling VERY depressed and hopeless. I want so bad to get back to my normal life, but it is like I have no energy or desire to push on. I have to literally FORCE myself out of bed and to work. Very concerned here and do not want to have to start taking an antidepressant. Does anyone know how long these effects will last or what I can do? Doctor gave me an additional prescription for Cipro, but I am afraid to take it because I feel like I am trapped in a vicious cycle and these feelings will only get worse. I am not used to taking meds!!

Hi everyone, I have just read all thirty pages of posts to try to find some answers to my crazy reaction to prednisone. My thoughts are with you all since I have had an usually severe reaction to prednisone. I was on prednisone for 1 week in October 2008 at 60 mg/day for a sinus surgery. I am still having the following side effects at full force:

Axiety to the point I can't socialize
mood swings
hot/sweating even in freezing weather
whole body shakes
severe migraines
tooth sensitivity
muscle pains
extreme thirst (I drink almost 2 gallons/day)
hungry all the time
moon face
water retention around waist
acne
hair loss
rapid heart rate
dizziness
nightmares
night sweats
high blood pressure
high hear rate

I'm not exaggerating, my parent's can contend to that. I do have a history of having sever reactions to medication and I've had all the gland and blood tests which all check out. I never had a single one of these before the prednisone - I was a healthy 22 year old.

I was wondering if any could tell me when this hell will end - my job and well-being depends on it!

Hi, I'm rapid cycling bipolar. I was taking 300mg of lithium a day and it helped a lot. Then started the crying and paranoid feelings again. I also took venlafaxine 150mg. My psych doc increased the venlafaxine to 225mg time released and the lithium to 300mg twice a day. I have really bad headache that make me sick to my stomach. Bad hand tremors, weight gain, extreme thirst, dry mouth, constant urination, confusion, memory loss, bad concentration, heart palpitation that are very scary and problems with my balance. I've been taking these meds for a year now. I'm hoping that I just need to get used to the new dosage. On the plus side mentally I'm great, it's just the physical aliments that are getting me. I have an appt. with my doc on the 13th. I'm hoping that he'll have some answers for me. Hang in there I know how you all feel! please tell me if anyone else has these same symptoms. Thanks,

I am 20 years old and have been taking seroquel for 4 years to sleep and calm my racing thoughts. The dry mouth and extreme thirst is there. Holy cow this stuff triggers my appetite better than the best weed I smoke. I only consume 25mgs a night and I feel the full effects for 12 hours. ZOMBIFIED. The stuff does work though. And I also thought I was crazy when my eyes starting hurting but now I realize this is the seroquel at work

I have never had a problem before with orgasming from masturbation but since I started having sex and taking Yasmin it has been hard for me to climax during sexual intercourse, despite becoming close to climax. Any suggestions??

I have been on Yasmin since April of this year, 2008. My doctor put me on Yasmin because of a hormonal imbalance caused by PCOS. At first, all I noticed was my periods had become regular and my skin had cleared up. About 4-6 weeks later, I started experiencing EXTREME pain in my right breast. After the onset of the pain, just my right breast became enlarged. A few weeks later I started having chest/heart pains at random times. It started occurring when I would run and that made me really scared. I had the feeling of having a heavy rock on my chest and wasn't able to get a real breath. After an EKG my doctor confirmed that my heart was healthy. Here is a list of some of the other side effects that I noticed: no sex drive, weight gain, TIREDNESS, forgetfulness, cramps in my legs, but only while sleeping, extreme thirst.

I am so grateful that I found this website. It's just awful to hear some many other women complaining of the same symptoms.

I've been on Biaxin for bronchitis for four days now, following a trip to the ER for breathing problems. I thought it was allergies. The first two days weren't too bad except for the extreme thirst and not being able to sleep (and the gas). If I happened to go to sleep I would have weird dreams and wake up again. I don't know if was the Biaxin or the hydrocodone cough syrup. With the third day, I couldn't think straight and I couldn't remember words. Could be lack of sleep, I guess. Conversations were difficult. I felt spacey. At the same time, I felt like I was on fast-forward: hurry up, hurry up, gotta go, gotta go, gotta get it done, faster, faster! This is the fourth day. I'm still on fast-forward and still dizzy and spacey. My blood pressure is up and my heart rate is down. My pulse is 55. It's time for another dose, but I'm not taking it. In fact, I'm going off all my meds except the blood pressure pills in case it's a drug interaction that's not mentioned. I'll call my own doctor in the morning and talk to him. I trust him more than the anonymous ER doc.

After I stoped taking it , many of the effects have gone except for the upset stomach and the belching, i hope this will get better some time soon otherwise i'll be going crazy...

oh I forgot to mention the extreme thirst! I also feel 'full' even though I haven't eaten and when I do eat it's even worse! It is very uncomfortable and makes me feel even more anxious. (It's lunch time and I'm terrified to eat.) I also have this feeling in the middle of my chest like there's air stuck in there so I try to burp for relief (That feeling makes me anxious too...) Good God this sucks! I broke down and got a packet of pills last night because I figured my symptoms were somehow related to being off of the Yasmin. (I was right!) I think I will ditch them and try to push through this - even though that's 50 bucks down the drain! I was off of bc pills for about four months or so but I have bad PMS and hoped that being on the pill would help. (They touted Yasmin as an answer to PMS!) The worst part is that I have Bipolar disorder, so I have to be very careful about what medications I take. I'm about to break down and call my doctor for some Klonopin because I feel like I'm going crazy and I need some relief!! (I'm at work right now, I have no clue how I'm even functioning..) I need to get some Slim fast shakes or something so I don't starve myself...

Sorry for two long posts, but I am so relieved to find this site. I wish there was something we could do: there are so many of us suffering and for what????

This site may have saved my life! I, too, experienced a nightmare due to Yasmin, and if it weren't for reading all of your stories and feeling your support, I'm not sure what would have happened. I don't know any of you, and yet you have all been so supportive to me! I watched myself go from an outgoing, friendly, mellow person to numb, anxious, and completely different person altogether. I began Yasmin in July 05 and in hindsight, I recognize how I slowly became a different person. Here are the side effects I experienced:

stomach trouble - nausea, diarrhea, nervous stomach, loss of appetite

dizziness

general weak feeling - especially in my legs

frequent urination/dehydration

extreme fatigue - I realized I hadn't gotten a good night's sleep in a year because I would always interrupt my sleep pattern because of having to go to the bathroom up to 4 times a night!

hair loss

dry mouth/extreme thirst

extreme moodiness - also numbness. I have always been a compassionate and caring individual and I found myself thinking that any emotional situations were stupid and that I was "above all that" touchy-feely stuff. NOT me, at all!

irrational thoughts/grim thoughts - in my research about Yasmin (and the Pill in general), I found that when your brain is lacking the appropriate levels of seratonin, you experience dark/grim thoughts about loved ones and yourself.

anxious panicky feelings

NO sex drive - and I had a very healthy sex drive prior

I simply attributed all the side effects to other sources, because I had no idea that a little pill could change a person so much. Then about 5 weeks ago (late July 06) I had my first panic/anxiety attack. I was convinced that I had snapped, and didn't even know what it was at first because I've never before struggled with anxiety/stress. It was one of the darkest, most frightening experiences of my life. I decided to google "Yasmin and anxiety" and found this site. I thank each of you for being honest about your experiences. I saw myself in many of your stories.

I quit Yasmin immediately, but then made the mistake of going back to another pill (Ortho-Cycen) that I had been on for 5 years previous to Yasmin. My Yasmin side effects weren't going away as quickly as I wanted them to, so I went to the doctor to make sure nothing else was wrong with me (I had thyroid tests, diabetes tests, etc.) She said that she was 99% sure that ALL of my symptoms were directly related to a hormone imbalance due to the pill. She said that even though I went on another pill that had been okay in the past, that my body had just reached a threshold and couldn't handle any more hormones. I have decided that I will never go back to a hormonal contraceptive method every again. It compromised my health and personality way too much! I'm working now to get my body its health back.

I've been off any form of BC for 2 full weeks now (after being on BC for 6 years straight) and I'm noticing a HUGE difference in my personality, my general health and wellbeing and my outlook on life already. I'm still not 100%, and understand that I won't be for awhile because my body needs time to sort itself out hormonally, but I do see a major improvement. I'm hoping that within 3 months I'll be completely back to normal. I have tried the vitamins that many of you have mentioned: I'm taking One-a-Day Womens, and supplements of B-complex, and one that includes calcium, magnesium and zinc. I've also tried Valerian (herbal remedy - I bought it in pill form), which I take when I feel an anxiety attack coming on, and it really helps! I feel calmer/better usually within a half hour.

I want to thank you all for posting your experiences. You have each made a difference in my life, and I hope I can do the same for someone too. I didn't even consider adding my experience to this site until I realized how much you all helped me. You are all in my thoughts as we each attempt to leave this awful pill in the dust! Take care, and again, thank you!

I was prescribed Yasmin almost 4 years ago after complaining to my Gyn about side effects of all the other pills i'd tried in the past (and the Depo shot, which was awful). She said women who have trouble with other ones, sometimes do well on Yasmin. For a couple years, I loved this pill, and experienced only one side-effect: loss of body hair (I was excessively hairy and this was a plus for me). However, over the past couple years, I have gained some weight and have developed some other issues. I'm not sure if they're all attributed to Yasmin, but here they are: extreme motion sickness and dizzyness, heart palpitations, periods of shortness of breath, intolerance for fatty foods, trouble sleeping and once when i started taking glucosamine for my joints (I'm a runner) I developed severe leg and muscle cramps and extreme thirst... perhaps messed up potassium levels? I'm curious if anyone else has had these problems, especially the motion sickness, which has become a serious problem for me.

I was prescribed sulmeth for a sinus infection. I had only taken the first dose and about six hours later I was almost on my way to urgent care. This poison gave me a 103 degree fever, the worst migraine you could ever imagine, extreme diarhea and gas that didn't stop until about three days after taking only one pill, my bones ached, and extreme thirst. If you are prescribed this poison for a medicine, i suggest you throw it directly into the trash or prepare for one of the worst days of your life guaranteed. This is no joke.

Hi ladies--just an update:
after I stopped taking Yasmin, I went without any pills for a month and steadily got better. I only had a migraine once after the initial two week withdrawal. After one month, I stared Nuvaring (today, I started month 2 on it). I have not had any anxiety or panic attacks for over a month. I do feel my heart racing every once in a while still, but I think that if I managed to cut down the caffeine, those will stop as well. My BP went down significantly within a month after going off Yasmin.

I still feel fatigued, but I think now it's just my hectic schedule. I have no trouble falling asleep anymore (I would lay in bed for hours while on the pill). I feel EXTREME thirst sometimes since goinf off, like one other person posted. I can chug a half-gallon and still be thirsty, but that is gradually getting better.

To answer the question about detoxing--I went through a two-week detox after stopping Yasmin, with vitamin and herbal supplements, an immense amount of water and teas, no caffeine, no meat, etc. It helped me tremendously and it accelerated my getting better, I strongly recommend it.

Good luck to you all.

I should have posted this earlier, but I forgot. Since stopping the pill has anyone had extreme thirst. While on it I almost drank a gallon of water a day. Now I'm probably at about a half gallon, but I can't ever quence my thirst. Guess add this to my list of ailments.
Thanks, Hill

I started taking Sulfameth 3 days ago 2 times per day. I have the this for a total of 14 days and after reading, am nervous about what may come. I already experience dry mouth and extreme thirst. I have already gained about 4-5 pounds since starting it, but I expect its mostly water weight, since I can't stop drinking!! I feel slightly dizzy and sluggish. One slight symptom that is mostly an annoyance is the skin around my nostrals feels tight and cold- almost numb- although its smooth to touch. I'm aftraid it might continue to the rest of my face. Also, my digestion has been all messed up.

I wanted to suggest to all those that are looking for alternatives to singulair, that they try Web Md. I am the one who posted about my baby being on Singulair since he was 4 months old. At Web Md they have a color coding chart for asthma that has helped us greatly. We have a set plan of action when it starts to act up. We know what to give first, then second and so on. I have found that the old fashioned hot steamy bathroom can stop an asthmatic cough better that Albeuterol. We do the breathing treatment followed by about 10 minutes in the steamy bathroom. It has worked every time. My son is back to sleeping through the night again and has almost no congestion left. I always thought that the congestion was his Asthma. Who would of thought it was a medicine ment to help him. Other side effects he went through are- extreme irritability-temper tantrums- excessive shaking- chest congestion-extreme thirst- lack of appetite-diarrhea-stomach pains. That is what I know. He is only 2 now, so he can't tell me what I have put him through.

I had 1/2 my thyroid removed with a benign golf ball sized tumor 3 months ago. After 1 month, I was put on levoxyl.

I have joint pain, cold and hot flashes, inxomnia sometimes for several days and the rest of the time - extreme fatigue. My period has decreased from 7 days to 2 days. I experience dull headaches that will last for 3 days.

My mood swings range from severe bitch to total calm - nothing can bother me. Depression is followed by mental high.

My vision is changing so much that in the last 4 weeks, the doctor has changed my prescription 3 times because I am trying to get glasses that work for me. Sometimes I have double vision, sometimes I have large blotches in front of my eyes of areas that I cannot see. Sometimes everything is just fuzzy.

I have constant nausea. In the beginning I gained 15 pounds. Now, I have lost 5 pounds. What I eat has absolutely nothing to do with my weight.

I go through periods of extreme thirst.

The levoxyl causes me acid reflux - severe and getting worse.

It causes me to have acne which I do not normally have.

The hair loss is scary.

Loss of memory is acute and mental fog comes and goes. This is difficult to deal with as my job is technical.

At times I sleep for 18 hours - straight. I have had narcoleptic incidents when I have been driving. These are scary because I feel like I am falling asleep at the wheel and by some miracle - bump in the road - etc. I come back awake. I find a place to pull over, get out and walk, go to the bathroom, whatever, get back in my car and instantly fall asleep.

I get home from work and have no energy to do anything. General malaise and feeling like an old, old, old woman. I am only 47 and the doctors excuse so far is that I am in menopause. I say, no way because menopause does not have cold flashes, etc. menopause is not caused by meds!!!

I also have the dry skin and itchy. Oh my god, I itch constantly - all over.

As you can see, I am experiencing all the symptoms of everyone else. For those of you who question whether or not we are taking this medicine on time and according to all the strict rules. The answer is YES. I even take my vitamins now during the evening. The doctor told me not to worry about that stuff so much but I have tried to follow the instructions hoping that it would help and it has not helped at all.

The only symptom that I have that has not been mentioned is that I am constantly flushing red. When I flush red it is not associated with any of the other symptoms. Sometimes I flush red only in my hands and my neck and face. My skin will feel tight. This has happened up to twice a day but is entirely random. Othertimes when I flush red, my whole body will flush like I am severly sunburned and I have experienced intense itching. This lasts for about an hour or two and happens up to 4 times a week. Several times I have turned completely red and had no itching. Once the red flushing with itching happened while I was sleeping and was so intense that I awoke from a deep sleep and had to stay awake for 3 hours until it subsided.

I have just switched doctors myself. I have been told that reactions such as mine are extremely rare. That the doctor has no idea what is happening. The endocrinologist ran one test for Cushings (which came out normal) and then basically said have a happy life. So, I am printing this web page and taking it to my new doctor. I want OFF this levoxyl.

I'm so glad that I logged onto this site - I have all of these side effects. After reading this, I immediately called my doctor for another medication and threw remaining pills away. I thought I was starting to lose my mind !!! Only took one tablet for three days and couldn't sleep starting with the first night. Next two nights I was completely restless with horrible leg cramps that last all day. Had extreme thirst during night, with hot flashes. It's absolutely the worst medication that I have ever taken. I will never take another medication without first checking this website for side effects. Thanks.

I took a 500mg dose of Levaquin last night and experienced many of the very negative symptoms mentioned above. I have taken Cipro in the past with only minor side effects. It started with hallucinogenic type dreams that woke me up. Once up I could not get back to sleep and I was severely chilled. For the rest of the night I had spells of being severely chilled followed by overheated. I also have a headache although that could do to the sinus infection I have. I also experienced bringing in the ears, shaking, extreme thirst, muscle pain, and anxiety. It has been about 14 hours since taking the first pill and I am starting to feel a little better. Obviously I will never take this again!
