I searched the web trying to find answers. I tried to access the Mirena website only to find it "under construction" for at least 2 months. I did more investigating to find out that in April 2009 the FDA issued Bayer a warning letter. It stated that Bayer neglected to list the risk factors in its literature. The Mirena website is up and running now, but it still doesn't have all the side effects listed.
I am 35 years old and never had a child. I was formerly on the Depo-Provera shot for 10 years. I was instructed by my doctor to change my birth control after several bone density tests revealed I was borderline osteopenia. I tried the patch, but I could never get it to stay on for an entire week. The Nuvaring was next and it simply wouldn't stay in place. I went thru a whole list of different birth control pills with no avail because of constant bacterial/yeast infections and vaginal dryness. I even tried estrogen cream. My doctor then suggested the Mirena.
The Mirena insertion process wasn't too bad with some cramping during the procedure. The cramping lasted for 1 1/2 days afterward. By the second day, my sex drive skyrocketed.
The 1st week on Mirena is what I call my "testosterone" madness. I was extremely antsy, edgey, and ready to fight. The 2nd week the hormones settled down and my mood was calmer. I noticed excessive hair loss and breast swelling/tenderness. Also, I had spotting for 2-3 months following insertion. It seemed that right before my cycle it would feel itchy like I was getting a yeast infection but the symptoms would disappear after my period.
It was fairly smooth sailing until the 5th-6th month. I started to develop constant low back pain, constipation, mild acne, cystic acne, eye twitches, heart flutters, severe cramping, constant bloating, itchy skin, and wrist tendinitis. Plus, every time I would sit down I could feel the pressure of the Mirena push against my bladder. I still was going to stick with it UNTIL I developed an itchy rash. The rash was small red bumps on my back and stomach with flesh-colored "goosebumps" on my arms and neck. The rash was present for 2 weeks. I went to the doctor and got medication for the rash. I felt like it was going away when the rash reappeared. I had a rash for a total of 4 weeks! This time the rash started at my neck and went to my ankles. I thought it was a coincidence the first time, but I knew the Mirena was the cause the second time it appeared. I tracked my cycles and the rash occurred at the same time during my cycle.
I went to my doctor and told him my thoughts. He politely gave me all my options before I chose to have the Mirena removed. The removal process was quick with a slight twinge cramp.
It has been 4-5 weeks since the removal of the Mirena. I am now free of cramping, excessive hair loss, eye twitches, heart flutters, breast swelling/tenderness, cystic acne, itchy skin, and rash. I still have some occasional low back pain, bloating, constipation, and mild acne. I had NO acne before the Mirena. Plus, the wrist tendinitis is getting better everyday.
Wish me luck ladies! I have to start from square one again. I hope that my experience with Mirena will help you.

I have been a crazed woman the last few months and thought it was all in my head. I got Mirena inserted in November 2008 and have had almost all of the symptoms the other women have posted. Some I did not even think could be related to the Mirena. I definitely have had weight gain, cramping, sore breasts, headaches, depression, mood swings, and LOTS of acne. I have also had eye twitches, abdominal pain, and pain in my legs. I have also been tired and never wake up refreshed any more. I have been exercising less as a result. These are the things I had no idea could be due to the mirena. What an eye opener. I called my doctor today and he suggested I keep a journal to keep track of how I felt and that I research the side effects. He also said he would take it out immediately if I so choose. I chose to do the former. But after reading and researching, I think I will call him tomorrow and make an appointment to remove it immediately. My husband and children will be forever grateful!

I have been taking zoloft for 14 years for panic disorder with mild depression. various doses, but now im at 200 mg, and have been at that dose for a long time. it was like a lifesaver from my previous med, imipramine. i did have really vivid dreams, weird ones, for a long time, but not so much anymore. i think that the long term effect of taking it has taken a toll on my mental clarity/concentration, though. I feel like i can't concentrate on anything or complete a thought anymore. even typing this i feel like i'm getting lost. like i'm constantly in a fog. or it could be that i have 5 month old twins, lol, i guess. but really, its never been this bad.
i too feel like i have had some loss of emotion, not feeling sad when its completely appropriate to. and i've also had way too much emotion at the wrong times, flying off the handle at people and such. the worst thing is my dr. would ask me "what makes you happy, what do you do for fun?" and i would just stare at him with a blank look cause i had no idea what that felt like anymore. or maybe i couldn't think enough to answer him. physically i think zoloft makes me twitch - eye twitches, nose twitches, throat clearing. and i can't have an orgasm to save my life :(
recently i've been having some breakthrough anxiety and my dr. wants to add wellbutrin to the zoloft. if anyone has experience with this please send me a message. i'm kind of scared to do it.

I took Levaquin for 2 days and woke up with both arms from the elbow down having the worst spasm ever, felt like contractions at times. I also had eye twitches and headaches and thoughts of feeling like I was poisoning myself. I did something very similar 6 months ago on Cipro, I took 2 rounds of it and by halfway through the second round I took myself off, I felt like my spine was swelling and I had vice grip headaches with that. My Dr. said they ae cousin meds of each other and I should NEVER take them again. I cannot believe they don't watch you more closely when giving something that has some serious side effects.

O.k. Birth control has different effects on everyone, but I know for a fact this pill has been terrible for me. I used to be on Ortho tri cyclen for 10 years, but I needed to switch since I started spotting. Loestrin 24 fe helped with that, but I gained about 13 lbs in the first month & had a horrible depression which made me hate the world. I fought with everyone and I know its from this pill because I was off all bc's for 2 months & was so happy & normal. I know it put weight on me because I work out all the time & I have weighed the same for 10 years. I started on this pill & "bang" I'm huge. I was also hungry all of the time and my left eye twitches.I have one more pill & then I am switching to a new bc. Good luck if you're on this!

Hey guys I liked the NuvaRing when I 1st got it from my earlier post and I wasn't able to get the prescription filled in time( some financial stuff happened so I was going to sit this month out) well since I have gotten off it I feel much better no more nausea, or moodiness and my vision has returned, but I have noticed now that my left eye twitches. It took bout a week for the hormones to leave my body and I was an emotional wreck. I was crying more and snapping at my boyfriend over stupid stuff. ( I cried because I couldn't get the "Pirates of the Caribbean" dvd) I liked the comfort but the side effects s...

Oh, wow. I've been taking Singulair for a couple years off and on, though definitely on for the past 6 months. I've had:
heart palpitations,
headaches,
eye-twitches,
all over back-muscle pain,
bowel/indigestion issues
anxiety attacks
and general tiredness.
it's freaked me out so much I've been to a few doctors including a cardiologist. they all found NOTHING. It wasn't until tonight that I thought to suspect Singulair. I'm going to go off it and see if it helps, though from the looks of the websites I'm finding- I think it will. It definitely has helped my asthma but it's not worth the side effects. Maybe some people don't have a problem with it....

This is only the 3rd day I'm taking Singulair. Tonight when I got home I quickly did a search for Singulair side effects. Here is what I had been feeling.

1) Extreme deep neuromuscular pain in my neck and shoulders and extreme pulling muscle tension along the length of my spine.

2) Thoughts of paranoia.

3) Extreme irritability

4) Heart palpitations

5) General feeling of malaise

6) Feeling that there is some toxic substance in my body ...

It is the Singulair!

7) Very very bad case of indigestion and upset stomach

Hi Everyone,
First of all I would like to thank everyone for their posts because wihtout them, I would not be where I am today. I had been on Yasmin for 4 years and it has taken that long for me to notice that it has been destroying my life piece by piece. I had become severely depressed and had thoughts of suicide. I had numerous side effects including zero libido, dizziness, muscle weakness, panic attacks, anxiety, rapid heart rate, thirstiness, dry throat, eye twitches, massive hair loss, dry coughing in the middle of the night, crying for no reason, inability to cope with any kind of stress, scalp sensitivity, migraine headaches, and hopelessness. I was impossible to live with and nearly lost everything including my family. I'm happy to say that I've been off Yasmin for a month and a half and my outlook on life has dramatically improved. Most of my symptoms have subsided. I do occasionally have episodes of anxiety but they are less frequent. Stopping Yasmin has saved my life and my marriage. THIS A DANGEROUS PILL AND THE FDA NEEDS TO PULL IT OFF THE MARKET. I work in a hospital and cared for a 22 year old female who was taking Yasmin. She had massive pulmonary emboli with a pulmonary infarct and nearly died. There are so many other birth control pills and methods to choose from. There is hope after Yasmin and it only gets better. I'm living proof. I was able to get pregnant immediately after stopping Yasmin. Please don't wait until your life is ripped to shreds because of this pill. Just get off it after you complete your current pill pack. The road ahead will be challenging but it will be worth it. Make sure to drink plenty of water and take your vitamins. I highly recommend yoga during detox off Yasmin. I've seen a therapist and she told me that she "didn't buy" my Yasmin story. That's ok. I know the truth. Don't worry. This storm will pass. I wish you all the very best.

hi all..i had taken yasmin in jan this year (only for a month). then becoz of the side effects i stopped. first month after stopping was ok, the next month my periods came abt 2 weeks late and i started getting a feeling that something was stuck in my throat and throat felt dry. i used to feel the same when i was on yasmin. meanwhile when i was on yasmin my doc thought my throat irritation was related to acid reflux so she made me do a upper gi series which turned out to be normal. since the time my last period was late some of the side effects that i had on yasmin seem to be slowly coming back(not with the same intensity though)
anyone has any suggestions?
i also had severe eye twitches but that went off after i started taking multivitamin and minerals pill everyday.

Hi all,
I have had very similar experiences to all of you. My obgyn also spoke so highly of Yasmin and I trusted her so I decided to go on it. I probably used it for 7-8 months in total. I stopped using it about a year ago. The first month was horrible. I felt like a 30 year old woman in a 90 year old body. I had been walking to local shops less than 1/4 mile from our house but couldn't even climb up the stairs in the house to the second floor anymore. I had the eye twitches that someone else described. I had only one normal period within the last year. The others I induced with a natural progesterone cream I bought at the health food store.

When I was on it, I noticed heart palpitations, hair loss, eye twitching, heat flashes and extreme cold hands. Sometimes, I could not get warm at all. I had trouble sleeping, couldn 't get to the gym, complete moodiness. The first few months after stopping I gradually started coming back to myself. After 7 months, I did get a normal period as I said but have not had one since then.

I am really concerned about how this has affected my fertility. I am 31 years old, have been trying to following my cycles with BBT and checking for ovulatory mucous and nothing. It is really depressing.

Luckily, after a few months of being off of Yasmin, my hair loss stopped. The frist few months though, it came out in clumps. I went to my obgyn and she said my scalp looked fine (but it was like I had severe dandruff and falling out so badly). Needless to say, I never went back to her.

I also started seeing a naturopath who has been great. I am taking lots of vitamins and nature herbs to try to regulate my cycles.

Has anyone else had a complete loss of getting their period and were able to get it back naturally? If so, I would appreciate hearing your story. This is driving me crazy.

Thanks for your time and hope everyone gets through this soon!

Well, I found this site just AFTER I started a new med for my BP. Finally figured out the lisinopril was the cause of my horrible cough. I started taking the drug in Nov of 2003. And had a surgury in Dec ....thought the cough was from the tube down my throat. Then it was flu/cold season. The cough steadily got worse, more frequent. My wife overheard someone say their doc was changing their BP meds because of a cough. Well I have been off lisinopril for two weeks and the cough is mild now. However this site brought to light ALL the other symptoms I never realized were from the drug.
Eye twitches,head sweats,vivid dreams.
The lisinopril did control my BP.
Hopefully this new med will work as well.
Lisinopril is just not the right one for me.
Good luck to Everyone!
