I don't see that many people have stated that NR has caused hair loss. Well it has cause hair loss for me. Naturally, I have thick hair so it isn't noticeable (yet). It's not like shedding, It's very long strands that are coming out when I comb my hair and it is alot. I've also notice that I have aches in my hands, legs, and feet. One day I was getting dress to go out, I was sticking my foot in my pump and my foot locked up on me. My toes shifted as if they were dislocated. It was nasty looking to the point that I turned my head, well I kept trying to wiggle it to get it back in place and it did. I also have bad headaches and eye twitching......Someone let me know of some other great (non-permanent) birth control.

I've been on Topamax (for seizures) for almost 2 years now, gradually increasing my dosage from 150 mg/day to 400 mg/day when I learned that 150mg is a migraine sufferer's dosage and not a Epilepsy dosage. I mention that because at 150mg, the side effects were present, but tolerable. I had the tingling fingers, eye twitching that was only behind my right eye (seems everyone only has it behind their right eye...why is that?), I can't find the right words in conversation, memory loss , constant sleepiness, backaches, depression, etc. At 400mg, I was an emotional wreck...I could not handle my emotions anymore. I would cry hysterically when talking for no reason, I couldn't concentrate on my work as an analyst, I had to read and re-read instructions in order to understand them, and sometimes read them out loud....and this is the kicker...sometimes when I'm buying something and at the check-out, it'll take forever to do something as simple to count out change. I have given the wrong change to cashiers a few times and then told them something to cover up my embarrassment like "Oh, I thought I gave you a quarter!", when in all actuality, I thought I gave them the correct change.
I feel like a moron pretty much all of the time. I used to pride myself on my intelligence and speaking ability but on Topamax, that is seriously diminished.
I don't know if this is related, but because of my inability to concentrate, I lost my job in Nov. '06. I thought I lost my insurance too, so I made the decision to stop my seizure meds, thinking that I was "cured". Well, I had another seizure in Jan '07 and am back on Topamax...depressed, twitching eye, the whole gamut. But you know what? The entire month of January, before my seizure...before Topamax...was the happiest I've been in sooo long. It's not worth losing a few pounds for.

I have been on Topamax for 5 years. At first I believed it was a miracle drug. It was being used to treat bipolar 2. Over the course of 7 months I lost 40lbs, which at that time I did not know was caused from the drug. I was losing parts of my memory, and I worked in a high performance sales job, but was able to cover the mistakes. Over the course of the next year and a half things began to get worse. I believed at that point it was my illness. I began to have panic attacks and began to be more depressed. Eventually I had to leave my job 3 years ago. I was given other drugs with the topamax but nothing did anything, so they upped the dosage to 400mg, which put me in bed almost constantly. The dosage was taken back to 200mg. Over the course of this process I complained of back pain, losing the feeling in my left side of my body, vision loss (I had perfect vision before taking this drug) headaches, eye twitching, stomache problems ( which developed into diverticulitis)hair loss. I had nerve testing done, which came back negative. I had the first eye test done which came back with some eye loss. My doctor assured me that the topamax could not be causing any of these problems.
The last vision test from an opthmologist now says that I need surgery to correct my eyes, because of the problems that this drug can cause. He says I need lazer surgery.
Well, the fact remains, that this drug I believe has caused all of my problems. Most of all, my lack of motivation, my depression, and my lack of will to do anything. My sleeping pattern has been totally changed, and I suffer my panic attacks which I never had prior to taking this drug, and anxiety. I have no libido, which I believe has been a gradual thing, it was not immediate.
I am now weaning myself off, and it is not easy. The lower dosage has withdrawl effects, and the fear of weight gain has always been a problem. However I realize now after researching this drug to great extent the long term effects are not worth weight loss, and natural products maybe the better solution.

I've had severe migraines for 2 years (they would occur 2x per month and last 7 days - Before that I've had almost daily headaches since childhood). I started Topamax in May of 2006. It's now Feb 2007. I take 100mg am, 100 mg pm. I consider the side effect of feet tingling minor to the migraines I had. In the last month I just started with the eye twitching which increases when I drink alcohol. I still get headaches with weather changes and the onset of my period (my triggers) but not the raging migraines I was getting.

I have been on singulair for about about 3 months now (if not more). For the past 2 months I have had a muscle spasm in my left upper eye lid and just in the past few days a mild case of tinnitus has flared up. I have always had joint pain due to scoliosis in my lower lumbar area so I never really attributed singulair to any joint pain. My doctor wants to send me for blood tests because of the eye twitching due to how long it has been going on for. I see a lot of the same symptoms in me that I have read on here. During the first week of use I developed hives all over my legs, belly and the bend of my arms. At night I would take a singulair tablet and an extra allergy pill to attempt a full nights sleep. I requested to be put on this drug to help with sleeping at night. I would have asthma flare ups almost nightly and my other meds (diskus 500/50) was not doing the trick. As of tonight, I am going to stop taking Singulair. I have never in my life had so many problems with a drug like I have with this one.

When increasing Topamax to 200 mg daily I noticed my husband has a constant, rhythmic lip twitch which he is not aware of. Also has an intermittent eye muscle twitch which he can notice when it affects the eye movement, but not when it pulses up toward his temple. He is also complaining of having a fog or mucous over his eyes during part of the day. His migraines became more frequent and more painful with this dose. He is taking this for occular migraines, so when the increase to 200mg started causing trouble, he decreased to 100 mg daily. I noticed that the lip and eye twitching became much worse with the decrease in doseage, I read somewhere that this could happen with a decrease in doseage, but not with an increase.

After my 4 1/2 year old using Singulair for 2 1/2 years we took him off after coming across this site and we are so thankful! He was having teeth clenching, unexplained aggression (he was so happy and easy going til 3), bed wetting, loss of focus , anxiety and the worse one was tics. He would open and close his mouth and some eye twitching. It was so painful to watch. We didn't know what we did wrong, why this was happening to him, where this was coming from? His pediatrician said there is no relation to medication, kids just get tics some times, it will pass. When it's your kid you can't bear to just let it pass. A pediatric neurologist said it was a simple motor tic , (usually age 5-10) which some children are prone to, said some asthma medications can make it worse as they can affect the nervous system. After 6 weeks off the medication his tics, bed wetting and most of the other symptoms were completely gone. It was gradual, initially i saw no change then suddenly it was less and less and then suddenly completely gone. Symptoms have been gone for almost a month now. It is so unfortunate that these horrible symptoms are not listed when your child is given this medication. I am so greatful to this website,

I've been on Yasmin for about 8 or 9 months and have experienced anxiety, eye-twitching, onset of acid-reflux, a couple of episodes of deep depression, worsening of allergies, increased congestion, aching neck, flushing, poor muscle tone, and days where I felt too weak to do much of anything. For the most part these symptoms fluctuate for better or for worse over the course of my cycle. I admit some days I feel great, but unfortunately it seems as though most of the time I'm either miserable or have low mood and energy. I've tried a number of things, like vitamins, better diet, etc... My next hope is accupuncture therapy. Perhaps these awful migraine/headaches will finally cease.

hi all..

coming of yasmin is feeling like hell right now.

i had taken yasmin for only 1 cycle before i realised the side effects so i stopped.

now everytime i have full fledged PMS symptoms. a week before period i get a bad sore throat. doc tells me to cut down on salt a week before period. coz the throat lining swells when estrogen is produced more just before the period.

right now my throat is hurting so bad that i feel like STRANGLING MYSELF AND ENDING ALL THIS.

my eye twitching starts again in this time and currently i am desperately waiting for periods to start so my throat will get better.

Hi everyone,

I had posted a few days ago but wanted to follow up with new info. I have been off Yasmin for about 11 months now. I finally had my own regular period! Yeah! I thought it would never come back after these darn pills.

I had all the same side effects you all are describing. But I wanted to give you all hope that you will eventually come back to yourself! The first few months are horrible. I don't know why they still prescribe these pills to anyone.

Anyway, here are some things to try that have worked for me. I was so frustrated when I didn't get my period for so long, I thought I had really messed up my chances of ever having kids.

I was tired of all of these medications and wanted to try something natural so I found a local naturopath. You can find one online at naturopathic.org. (I am not affiliated with them, this is just how I found mine).

She had me start by trying to track my cycles (BBT), CM, so that we could tell if I was even ovulating or not. I now strongly believe Yasmin completely shut down my ovulation each month. Next, she had me take fish oil tabs, Vitamin B Food complex, and an herbal mix of phytoestrogen (for the first two weeks when of my cycle) and phytoprogest for the second two weeks of my cycle. Both are herbal compounds so no prescription needed! I also took a Calcium/Magnesium tablet each day because as someone else noted, Yasmin depletes your body of vitamins/minerals that our bodies need!

The first month, it seemed my BBT was a little off but seemed that my body was trying to do something. The next month, the same thing. Still no AF, but I was feeling much better with all of the vitamins. For the third month, she added two tablets of Vitalex (Vitex - you can buy it in a natural foods store - non prescription and there are many different brands). Tada! The third month I finally got my first AF in almost a year! What a relief!

Also, my eye twitching nearly stopped. It is most likely caused by the vitamin depletion caused by Yasmin. The lower abdomen stabbling pains others have had, I had too. Well, that also went away as did my anxiety and serious mood swings. My boyfriend was very patient to put up with my moods while on Yasmin. I was tired, my legs ached as if I were an elderly person. This also went away, thank goodness!

Anyway, girls, please believe me, it will get better. You have to take care of yourself and your own health. It is easy to get a quick fix and take another medication. But please understand that each medication has its own side effects. Take some time to get to know your natural cycle and body. I strongly recommend seeing a naturopath but whatever you decide, best of luck!

Hi all,
I have had very similar experiences to all of you. My obgyn also spoke so highly of Yasmin and I trusted her so I decided to go on it. I probably used it for 7-8 months in total. I stopped using it about a year ago. The first month was horrible. I felt like a 30 year old woman in a 90 year old body. I had been walking to local shops less than 1/4 mile from our house but couldn't even climb up the stairs in the house to the second floor anymore. I had the eye twitches that someone else described. I had only one normal period within the last year. The others I induced with a natural progesterone cream I bought at the health food store.

When I was on it, I noticed heart palpitations, hair loss, eye twitching, heat flashes and extreme cold hands. Sometimes, I could not get warm at all. I had trouble sleeping, couldn 't get to the gym, complete moodiness. The first few months after stopping I gradually started coming back to myself. After 7 months, I did get a normal period as I said but have not had one since then.

I am really concerned about how this has affected my fertility. I am 31 years old, have been trying to following my cycles with BBT and checking for ovulatory mucous and nothing. It is really depressing.

Luckily, after a few months of being off of Yasmin, my hair loss stopped. The frist few months though, it came out in clumps. I went to my obgyn and she said my scalp looked fine (but it was like I had severe dandruff and falling out so badly). Needless to say, I never went back to her.

I also started seeing a naturopath who has been great. I am taking lots of vitamins and nature herbs to try to regulate my cycles.

Has anyone else had a complete loss of getting their period and were able to get it back naturally? If so, I would appreciate hearing your story. This is driving me crazy.

Thanks for your time and hope everyone gets through this soon!

I am at the end of week 2 on Topamax for daily migraine relief. I am enjoying the low appetite side effect (-5lbs!) but am having a severe problem with my eye twitching. Was quite relieved to read through to see another had also experienced this annoyance. How long do the side effects last? My migraines are not as strong though they are still present on a daily basis. My main problem is dizziness - does anyone else have success with controlling dizzy spells? I was hoping the Topamax would help. Maybe when the dosage increases?

i am responding to the eye twitching guest...

i've just recently upped my dosage for migraines to 150 mg's and today is the first time i've noticed it. it happened for about three hours and then stopped. it completely freaked me out.

and then i remembered reading that it might be a possible side effect. i'm going to call my dr. tomorrow and see what i can do about it.

i also found a online posting about some kind of glaucoma that occured in 23 out of 825,000 study participants, that can cause blindness. not cool.

Positive side affects
mo more migraines
negative side affects
tingling in fingers and lips
eye twitching
discharge from my breasts..ya I'll say it.. doc said it was from the t-max.
confusion every once and awhile

Honestly though, I can go to work everyday and lead the normal life, with no migraines, and keep the shades open and let the sunshine in, so it's okay.

my side effects were eye twitching,so my dr lowered the dosage, and gave me cogentin. it worked great. but by lowering the dosage, my anger came back just a little,my mood swings too. so i apt to go back to the higher strenght, rather than to put my kids thru hell, and i take the cogenting when needed. what people don't realize is that u have to give medicine time to get in your system and work, and then some of the side effects disappear. i love it. it is the best thing that has ever happened to me, and to my kids.

My son is taking Adderall xr and I've noticed an eye twitch. Has anybody else experienced this, on this medication? My Dr. says it probably isn't related. I had him off the med over the summer and it lessened the eye movement but it never went away, now that we are back on it, it seems to have gotten worse again? Looking for answers.

My husband, 42, has been on Zocor for about a year. 4 months ago his cardiologist doubled his dose to 40 mL. He is experiencing almost constant eye twitching, and lower lip twitching, and recently, tingling and numbness sensations in his face. I haven't read any other symptoms from other people regarding twitching, but am really wondering if it's related to his Zocor.

I had been involved in a research study about Zocor. I had previously been on 20 mg without any seemingly side effects. Had a brief 'wash out' period and was rx'd 40 mg. On 40 mg I have had the eye twitching, face numbness, weakness, especially in my hands and fingers, fingers became sore, and general muscle stiffness. However, the most troublesome side effect was depression to the point of teariness. I have been off the 40 mg of Zocor for a week and a half and the depression seems to be lifting and I am sleeping much better. Hope these comments help others.

I am responding to the most recent post about Zocor side effects. Yes, I had the same response about not being believed about the side effects that I was experiencing. One of the most troublesome for me was the depression to the point that I was teary every day. Slowly, this seems to be lifting-I have been off the Zocor approximately 8 weeks. I also experienced the eye twitching that was so severe it interferred with my everyday life. Also, I had breathing difficulties with chest pain.
