Im 54 and already on atenelol and moduretic for Hypertention, I also have type 2 diabetes ,my Doctor started me on Lisinopril he said to protect my Kidneys. I woke up the 2nd day of taking these pills 5mg and the back of my hand and arm was red. I was very tired and didn't want to do anything. This morning , the 3rd day I woke up feeling fine and ate 1/2 choc cookie with walnuts on top, Ive eaten walnuts all my life with no problem, suddenly I felt my lips and face swelling and tongue, and my hands were burning really bad and I developed large welts on my legs and arms I had heart palpitations and got really scared. I ate some cherrios and drank some water and calmed down and the symptoms went away as fast as they had come. I found this website and will be calling my Doctor today.

The moon face and weight gain did not occur until week 4. But I started really drinking a lot of water - at least 100-120oz daily. This helped the moon face considerably, as well as start me on losing some of the extra weight. Be careful of sodium in the diet - that is the reason for the bloating. So - tons of water (try to get it in early in the day, that way you are not rushing to fit in all that water close to bedtime) and working out four times a week helps with the moon face and bloating. But I still can't get rid of obsessive thoughts - such as cleaning my house or finding a good price on lemons. I hope that goes away when I am off the Pred.

After almost two months on prednisone ( 1st 2 wks, 40 milograms/remaining 5 wks, 30 milograms per day, I have experienced hand cramps, foot cramps, leg cramps, increased appetitite, face swelling, irritability, mood swings, hyperactivity & gradual weight gain.

On the positive side, I have been able to channel the hyperactivity energy into exercising more (I walk or go to the gym mostly every day). I also have the stamina to do more housework after a 12-hr work day & taking care of the needs and activities of my 12 & 14 yr olds. And I have never been more caught up on my job. In regards to the irritability, I have never felt so good when I have had to put certain people in the place and give them a good piece of my mind. My usual nature is being too kind & holding things that bother me inside. In addition, I suspect that the medication had something to do with healing a fingernail fungus that a had. Previously, my doctor told me that for a quick fix for my nail problem, I would need to use a $300 medication! But all in all, I would still rather be off the medication and adopt all of the positive changes I mentioned above using my own merit.

Was reluctant to take any Lipitor but decided to try it.
Now at 16th day of 10 mg tid.
Three days of foot swelling and eye and face swelling already. No other detectable reason of diet change.
Also severe low back muscle pains. No reason such as overworking it. The pain does not respond to movements which usually relieve back pain. (Pilates or Feldenkrais).
No proof of the cause but will stop the drug and test whether symptoms abate.

I am 29 years old and just had my second transplant. I started on a dose of 70 mg a day and tapered down to 5mg a day during one month. I still have side effects of moon face, swelling and bloating in my stomach. I was wondering how long it takes for the medication to leave your system. I would appreciate anyone who has a similar experience to email me back- thanks

Wow! I thought most of this was in my head! I keep telling my husband that this medication's side affects are almost as bad as the Crohn's flair ups! I, too, have had weight gain, increased appetite, mood swings, insomnia, night sweats, hair loss, hair growth on my face, leg cramps, depression, moon face, swelling around my neck (and ankles and abdomen)...in fact, you name a side affect and I probably have it. Currently, I am on 20 mgs (tapered from 40 mgs for 4 months). It seems like the side affects have increased as I have decreased dosage. Has anyone else noticed this as they decrease?

This drug down right sucks and I can't wait til the day I can get off of it! I have Crohn's disease and I've been taking Prednisone for 3 months now. And will probably be on it for another 6 months. As soon as I stopped taking it the first time all the pain came back. So now I'm on 40mgs a day again. Moon face, swelling everywhere! Back pain, knee pain, heartburn, sweats, severe hunger(which did subside when my dose was lowered),mood swings... I feel for anyone who has to take this.
