I have AIHA and am doing better since getting off the Prednisone.
I posted back in Oct. 2008. I finally got off the Prednisone in Nov. and surely don't want to be on it again, ever, (hopefully). I'm still using Danazol but was at 400 mg a day, am down to 200 mg hopefully will go in remission, if not it's spleen surgery time. All the fat pockets do go away, it just takes time. I would advise anyone using Prednisone to take good daily vitamins and minerals ( got mine from the health food store), also Calcium with Vitamin D (Citracal caplets w/ D maximum dose). Prednisone depletes minerals, stay on a regime. I also have to take prescription folic acid. Eat and orange EVERY day for extra vitamin C, DR. advised me. I eat 3 good square meals a day and made sure breakfast was a main meal. Eat a small container of plain yogurt daily to ward off fungus, such as thrush, and to keep the intestinal track clean, plain is nasty, just wolf it down (Dannon makes a small container) A lot of people taking Prednisone have problems with acne. Wash your face daily then using cotton balls apply "Topical Hydrogen Peroxide" to the facial skin and let dry, then a moisturizer, face and body (Gold Bond is very rich for body). I use to turn on the fan and let the air blow in my face because it seemed to take for-ever for the peroxide to dry and the smell of it will gag you too! My skin stayed very clear while I was on the Prednisone for 9 months. My skin was the softest ever while I was on the high doses and I felt soooo good then also, but my mind was so foggy and feeling of being heavily medicated was hard, plus all the muscular shaking. I use to get mad getting behind people in traffic that drove like the little old lady wearing coke bottle glasses. Then I became that little old lady when I was on the high dose Prednisone. I told myself I would NEVER complain about any one going to slow in traffic again!!!! I still have joint problems after 4 months off but also heard it takes 2 months recovery for every 1 month on Prednisone. hopefully I will be better within the next year. I had a lot of nausea after getting down towards the lower doses, hated to get up in the morning, was like having morning sickness and bouts through out the day also. I would just go home after work and lay down and also on the weekends. I feel for anyone with small kids who have to keep up with work, daily family life and trying to cope with illness and drug life. I'm just glad my kids are grown while I'm going through this mess. My daughters have been very supportive and helpful. Lower doses for me were the worst though. My Dr. wouldn't give me anything lower than 2.5mg. I was having a hard time and cut those little suckers in 4 pieces and took them a week every day and then every other day till I could stop. It's hard at first going off but once off, didn't go back again. I haven't found anything yet to help the joint pain but they say time cures all. I still have racing thoughts at times and some concentration issues also. Sometimes I think I'm a little old lady with ADD!!!! ha ha Had some issues with anger, wanting to slap co workers into next week at times. A lot of problems with taking Prednisone is because the adrenals shut down and it affects what is called the HPA axis. The Hypothalamus in the brain controls numerous things in the body and I think that's why the body balance becomes disrupted, it effects hunger, taste, smell, weight, on and on and on. Everything at first tasted to salty or sugary. Some foods I didn't want to eat because they tasted awful. Maybe that helped me also with not gaining to much weight. The pituitary and hypoThalamus try to balance everything and with out the adrenals not working a person becomes screwy bodily and mentally. I did a lot of reading online while I was off work for 2 months, especially with trying to take care of my self physically. If you have problems with being hungry eat something protein, it will stick with you longer and eat small snacks between meals, like bananas or avocados, raw veggies too. I would make a pot of beans once a week, because of lower calorie intake and they are high in protein, any kind of legumes are good. For awhile I craved liver maybe needed the iron and B12. Try to take a short walk everyday, even if it's 2 blocks. Maybe this will help someone out there cause the Prednisone is crazy stuff. Take care of your selves and you will be better, it may not seem that way but you will get better in time, just don't GIVE UP!!! L. from Kansas

hi i had my mirena fitted in October 1999 extremely painful as i have a tilted womb apparently, and today i am having an ultrasound scan to find it.
i have been asking my gp to have it removed for past 3 years and have been fobbed off so many times, made to feel a time waster.
problems i have had are listed below
5 stone weight gain
IBS
GERD
PANIC ATTACKS
LOSS OF LIBIDO
PAINFUL SEX
CHEST PAIN
HEADACHES
DEPRESSIVE SYMPTOMS
MUSCLE PAIN AND FATIGUE
WEAK BLADDER
BLACK HAIRS ON CHIN
POOR FACIAL SKIN
BLOATED STOMACH (IBS)
MOOD SWINGS (PMT)
COSTOCHONDRITUS(inflammation of connective muscle tissue in chest wall)
and just recently diagnosed with diabetes 3 months now
on my last diabetic nurse check i asked her if she could check my coil for me as i hadn't been able to...... she couldn't find it ?
i have pain just from sitting and feel like something is pressing on my bladder.
reason for having it fitted was my very heavy periods with 1 week in between after having my only child in june 1998.
had no periods since dec 1999, but terrible pmt and mood swings am at wits end as i am so heavy do not think general anesthetic poss if coils embedded. very worried

This medicine should be taken off the market immediately!! I am 30 yo and have been taking Yaz since September of 07. I have had such bad panic attacks, anxiety, nausea, gall bladder disease, and a laundry list of other odd effects that have taken over my body. I have been told by my doctor that I am depressed and was prescribed Xanax for those attacks that come out of nowhere and as of the other day he prescribed Celexa, which I took one dose of as directed and it put me over the edge. It was not until I read posts on this web site that I realize this Yaz pill is what has done this to me. I am reading all these comments from other women on this site and I feel like I am looking into a mirror. I had such a bad panic/anxiety attack this weekend I ended up in the ER and when I told the doctor I took Yaz he of course had never even heard of it which I guess is normal as it is not a med that is prescribed on an ER basis but regardless, I have stopped taking it and hopefully will be on my road to recovery. I hope someone else out there reads this and finds some peace with them self that you are in fact NOT crazy the medicine you are taking is.

I started taking Yasmin on Monday April 21st, and by Wednesday morning I wanted off of it. I started getting really bad leg cramps all the time, I feel dizzy all the time, I have trouble concentrating, and I have trouble breathing. The worst part is that I have heart palpitations now. My heart feels all butterfly-like or it feels like it's beating really slowly really hard. I just spoke with my doctor, and she says to stop taking it immediately.

After reading this website I see I'm not the only one affected by horrible side-effects from Yasmin.

After suffering from terrible skin from about junior high, I finally got a good enough job so that I had insurance to pay for a dermatologist. After heavy antibiotics and Retin A, I was given Accutane. In the next 3 months I suffered through: Severe dry skin and chapping, my hair fell out in clumps, my fingernails curled like parrot beaks, terrible muscle pain, severe depression (even though I didn't realize it until I was off of it), and of course the scarlet leather facial skin that "showed the drug was working".

Then after all that, shortly afterward my grandfather's Type 1 diabetes appeared in me (at age 40!). This warning about getting diabetes was NOT in the warnings that I had to sign off on then, but it IS now (funny, huh?). The kicker is, that after all that, I didn't even have acne. A better doctor correctly diagnosed me with Rosacea, gave me a simply lotion (Metrolotion), and my face has been fine ever since.

Stay AWAY from this drug!!!

I have been on Mirena for 2 years at the end of this month. I got it because I am a type 1 Diabetic and I already have 2 children and don't believe it to be healthy for me to have another. I thought it was the best invention ever. Nobody told me that while I never have to worry about birth control, I do have to worry about constant nausea, bloating, extreme mood swings, weight gain, and bad facial skin. Lately here, I've been really depressed because all of my clothes don't fit right, I hate looking in the mirror, and I started going through all the things that might be making me gain weight, and I really don't even know what led me to look up Mirena and weight gain, but here I am, very relieved to find out that I am not the ONLY one to experience these side effects. I was never told that all these were possible, because had I known I would've never opted for this. I intend to have this removed as soon as possible.

I'm a 50 year old male, very active but plagued with hereditary induced cholesterol. My first experience with Lipitor was that it was a miracle drug for me. Unfortunately after taking continually for 6 months, I keep on developing muscle strains on my legs which forces me to stop playing tennis for a month. I also believe I ruptured my Achilles tendon about two years ago because of taking Lipitor.

Anyway, after stopping taking Lipitor, in just 3 weeks, my legs felt stronger and I'm pretty quick in my game again.

Another side effect is the aging effect it makes on my face. It sags, making me a lot older. Stopping my medication also quickly tightened my facial skin, making me look younger again. In fact , on the street I will know if somebody is on Lipitor even if nobody told me. The skin will be like very soft, double chin will be really sagging.

The problem is doctors don't believe this. When I tell them they dismiss it.

I have had the mirena out now since the 17th October, I had had it for about 2years.it was causing me mood swings, very bad acne, chest pains, insomnia, a weird feeling-sometimes painful-during sex, lowered sex drive, itchy skin, a weird tingling in my facial skin and very bad pre-menstral depression. Am now using condoms as my sole contraceptive(bit scary, but doing fine so far!).
So far my skin has improved alot-I thought it would take a lot longer, the spots haven't completely gone, but no new ones and it looks alot brighter. Also, mood swings are alot better, no pmt and no depression. The chest pains have gone and the tingling, havent had such horrible sleeps and sex drive is definately back!
If this thing is affecting you, then get it taken out! I feel like a new woman! I have not had another period yet, due in the next week. mmmm...I wonder what that will be like! Weird. Anyway, Im just pissed off I never had it taken out earlier an that I thought I had no other choice. It definately didn't agree with me. Do not listen to any docs/nurses who tell you it is 'only local hormones and will therefore not cause side-effects'! LIES!!! It tells you on the leaflet that it may cause these side effects. I dont know why they give you this contradictory info.
Cheers X

Is CONNIE who wrote on the forum in Aug of 2005 still reading this? If so I have a question for you. I saw that you wrote that you had severe skin changes especially facial skin texture as that is a symptom I have experienced and have not seen many people complain about. I noticed my skin, especially on my face become wrinkly and sensitive, I seem lose volume in my face and the texture of my skin went from oily, resistent, tight skin to dry, sensitive, and mushy feeling. It even hurt to put sunscreen on it (it felt like it was burning my skin.) Even off the Yasmin my skin continued to feel this way, even get worse for a month or so, and then it seemed to start back the other way. Its now oily again, but the texture is still not the same as it used to be, especially around my mouth. I am wondering if your skin ever felt back to normal again. I still get tingling feeling sometimes and it still seems swollen at times. I have been off the yasmin since end of Nov. 2005. Anyone else with this similar side effect? Also I had/have a real sensitive scalp off and on with dryness on the scalp and hair.

I am 29 and recently developed asthma like symptoms - wheezing and tight chest- 2 months after i quit smoking, and my doc put me on this. I am on my 3rd 250 mg discus of Advair (not including the 2 week sample discus) and have a couple of the side effects as described in other entries - a lot of acne on my forehead and cheeks, sides of my face... very rash like. I haven't had acne since i was 15. Also, none of my pants fit me in the waist, but they do in the thighs and butt - i also FEEL extremely bloated. Finally, i also have aching joints, particulary back, and have started stretching religiously, but still ache a ton. My sense of smell is just recently totally messed up - smells other ppl love i am grossed out by!! 2 weeks ago i started excercising daily and eating NO sweets and no junk, and my acne is not so greasy but just a steady bumpy surface to my facial skin. I am 29 and recently developed asthma like symptoms - wheezing and tight chest- 2 months after i quit smoking, and my doc put me on this.

Thanks all of you for adding your experiences.
I dont have much new to add, but I do want to tell you the effects I have been feeling. I am usually a very together person. I used to sleep 7 hours a night getting up with no problems at 6am to start my day with a workout. Now, i can barely get out of bed by 7:30am, no matter how early I sleep. I am just exhausted. I am usually a very good multitasker, but I am now distracted and forgetful. Some other symptoms are:

- dry mouth
- panic attacks
-crying ( and I am a pretty tough person, I was shocked to cry over a missed telephone call)
- anxiety
- insomnia
-weight gain
-diarreah
-spotting in second and third weeks
-dry facial skin
- breakouts on face and body
-breast tenderness and swelling in second week
-hands swelling during the night when I sleep
- i cant get through a night without getting up to go to the bathroom at least twice.
-distracted

I am going off this pill. This is the first I have ever taken and the experience has been horrible.

I have not decided on a new on yet, or if I trust any of them not to affect me the same way.

I have been experiencing multible side effects loss of speech, word loss, memory loss, twitching of facial muscles around mouth, eyes, nose itching, facial skin feeling like it is moving and crawling. I need people to repeat information to me several times before I get things yet some other senses seem to be improving. I having serious problem with blurring vision I see no one has noted this problem and was wondering if it would go away too or would it do permanent damage? I am not losing weight from taking this medication either but I only take 100mgs afraid of an increase because of the blurred vision.

After taking Prilosec for about 4 years my prescription was changed to Omeprazole about 2 months ago (at the request of the insurance carrier, no doubt). About 2 weeks after starting to take it I noticed small bumps along my jawline and severe dryness to my facial skin along with itchiness. After consulting my doctor, she said it was just dry skin and told me to use a certain moisturizer and switch to Dove soap. Now, 3 weeks later, my entire face is broken out with the bumps, my face is red blotches and is extremely dry, flaky and itchy. I will be calling the doctor to be put back on Prilosec. I had none of these problems with it.
