Began taking 500mg of niaspan after 81 mil of Bayer 30 minutes prior (at 11:00 in the am) about 3 weeks ago. Recommended at this time since I do enjoy my 2 glasses of red wine at night. I then take 10mg of Lipitor before bed. Side effects have been swollen lips that keep peeling, after many OTC lip balms, racing heart and unbelievable insomnia. Only had flushing the first day before nurse, not doctor, told me about aspirin. I don't know whether my allergic reaction is the Niaspan or the Lipitor. I also had mild nausea and foot cramps at night. The nausea has subsided but not my lip problem.

For one year prior to taking these drugs, I was on 10/40 of Vytorin but since all the negative results of that drug, my doctor has taken all his patients off of it.

Any time your or your child's physician wants to prescribe a new medication, ask that they check the DailyMed website for the most recent FDA approved drug labels to get information on ingredients and side effects. This website is maintained by the US National Library of Medicine and the National Institutes of Health and has information on 4039 approved prescription drugs. Accurate information may also be found on the websites of medication manufacturers.

Other websites, as well as medication reference books physicians have in their offices, MAY NOT have the correct information.

Many medications, including some inhaled asthma medications, contain lactose, which may be contraindicated in individuals allergic to milk protein.

Don't take chances with your or your child's health. Ask doctors lots of questions and don't be afraid of offending anyone!!!

I have been taking Lisinopril 10mg every morning for about 1 1/2 months. I have been developing many different side effects, but primarily they consist of muscle cramps (painful!) in the legs/calves, numbness of feet with pain when walking, severe itching (it feels almost like ants walking all over my body), and horrible belching and flatulence. I did not connect it to the Lisinopril until I had ruled out all the other medications I have been taking and then coming across a web site that outlined the symptoms I have been experiencing. Why the symptoms occurred gradually and not all at the same time is bewildering, but it is definitely an allergic reaction of some type. I have discontinued the medication as of today and will call my Dr. in the morning and discuss (Yeah, like he'll really come to the phone!) The constellation of symptoms only highlights the strong and potentially life-threatening symptoms that could have occurred. A major anaphylactic reaction could have led to difficulty breathing, atrial fibrillation and probably death. The doctors who prescribe medications are not always aware of the potential harm that could result from the side effects of the meds they prescribe. It is vitally important that we report all symptoms to our doctors and/or pharmacists, nurses, etc. This drug may need to be further investigated. (An FDA approved drug which results in severe side effects can be pulled from the market and doctors told not to prescribe it while a further investigation is completed. Reading the previous posts, it is apparent that many individuals are having similar problems.
The itching is the WORST!!
My advice to anyone having even the slightest symptoms or if you are experiencing more severe reactions to report this to anyone who will listen. If your individual MD finds nothing wrong, invite him/her to imagine how devastating the symptoms can be and literally demand discontinuation of the drug and a prescription for a safer, effective drug.
The advertising campaigns for the drug companies constitute a very massive push to prescribe any and/or all of the meds brought to the marketplace with little regard for those of us who are suffering. This must not be allowed to continue. The unfortunate aspect of discontinuing this med is that the high blood pressure I currently have was fairly controlled by the Lisinopril, but the side effects are impossible and either a new med will be prescribed by my doctor (if he won't listen and/or try to understand, it is time to find a more enlightened physician!) Our fates rest on the combined efforts of all of us to bring the dangers of this med to the forefront. Our hypertension may not be controlled for a few days (until a doctor can prescribe a new one), but the alternative of continuing the med and ignoring or making light of the side effects is far worse.!

I have been on Lisinopril for about 4 or 5 years. This past Saturday,11-10-07,I started having some strange problems. At first my tongue swelled up so big it was hanging out of my mouth.Later my mouth and tongue got so sore and tender it felt like I had chewed on glass.I wasn't able to eat or drink.I couldn't sleep for the severe pain.I was breathing hardhad swollen lymp nodes,my throat swelled so bad it was almost closed. My throat never did get sore though.I also experienced lightheadedness.I had to go to the ER where I was told it was from the Lisinopril.I had a severe allergic reaction which I was told isn't uncommon. The Dr. said any BP medicine can cause this but he has seen quite a few cases involving Lisinopril.I was given injections to counter-act the Lisinopril.I started feeling 100% better within 15-20 minutes.I gad to stay at the ER for a about 2 hours so they could check on me to make sure I was okay. After finding this site today and reading others experiences,I recalled how just recently I have had nausea, lots of headaches and too many other problems to mention.I never associated these things to any meds I am on.Thanks for all the other posts. It is very helpful,

2 days after taking 500 mg of Levaquin all my fibromyalgia and chronic fatigue symptoms flared up to include insomnia, pains in muscles, arms, legs loss of steadiness in walking almost find myself tripping over things including my own two feet and a loss of words for one who never ever could be known as one who cannothold conversations. Now I cant remember what Iam discussing nor can my brain continue a full conversation regarldess of the level of intelligence of the conversation.

Something is really wrong with this FDA approved drug as it is difficult at best to function as a productive individual
