My nine year old started taking this horrible drug less than a month ago. Since then, he has has horrible mood swings, screaming fits, told us he hates us, emotional breakdowns and even threatened to kill himself. He is a bright, intelligent, active and usually a normal nine year old. Over the past month he has been in a physical fight at school where he punched a kid for telling him he was annoying. He has also been in a ton of trouble at school which is not like him. I was so worried until today. My Mom recommended that I check the side effects of his asthma medication. I am astounded and angry at what I am reading. His doctor is supposed to have his best interest in mind and we trusted her. She was the attending physician at a hospital where we live. My nine year old was hospitalized with asthma. Although his asthma needs to be controlled, not at his emotional expense. There has to be a better way...

I was prescribed Singulair on a Tuesday & started taking it that evening & that night I began to have horrific dreams. My dreams are usually very vivid & crazy but once I started taking the Singulair they turned really dark & scary. I would wake up freaked out & didn't want to go back to bed. My day time events would roll into my dreams & become so warped and I would wake up confused if what I dream was real or not.

By the Friday after I started taking Singulair I was experiencing anxiety. I felt like I had been drinking coffee all day (I don't usually drink coffee so when I do I get very anxious). By Saturday I was depressed. I didn't want to go out & socialize & I didn't want to be around my husband. I just sat on the couch with my mind spinning out of control with sad thoughts - for example - wondering why husband loved me, whether my parents were healthy & imagining what I would do if they died.

On that Sunday night I was laying down trying to go to bed & my right side was tingling. Since it wasn't the left side I didn't think much of it & tired to ignore it. It took me a long while to fall asleep that night because of worrying about the tingling sensation as well dreading what I was going to dream of. Well, I had the most messed up dream that night that I can't even talk about it without crying. I woke up at 3am & finally came to the realization that it could be the Singulair causing all these problems. I got on my computer & found this website.

Needless to say I stopped using Singulair immediately after reading these testimonials. I met with my doctor that next Tuesday & told her what happened & what I had read. She told me how she had just read the FDA report about 2 weeks before I saw her but didn't think too much of it because she prescribes Singulair about once or twice a week & has never has a patient complain about a mental side effect. I told her to be careful b/c these people may not know what is going on with them & may not be able to put 2 & 2 together b/c who would think an asthma & allergy medication would mess with their mind.

My doctor then prescribed me the Symbicort inhaler and I haven't used my albuterol inhaler once since I started using Symbicort. Mind you I have very mild asthma symptoms.

My husband has been on Singulair for ten years now. It was a miracle drug for us as his asthma and allergies were ruining his quality of life. Little did I know that the Singulair would have such drastic effects as well. He is a police officer who has been through some traumatic events in his career. I attributed his irritability, depression, anger, severe nightmares, heartburn, weight gain, and puffy swollen eyes to post traumatic stress disorder. He stopped taking the medication about two weeks ago after his prescription ran out and he saw the FDA report. He is once again the man I fell in love with. Now I know what has been causing all of the changes in him, and we have decided he will never take Singulair again.

i posted here in march 2008. i'd been taking singulair for about 8 years. at the time of my post i'd quit that and allegra and some other allergy/asthma meds. within weeks i noticed huge changes. one year later i can say i am far less depressed, i have been sleeping much better. i'd only been sleeping one or two hours at a time for all those years. my cholesterol went from 243 to 192 within months. i'm trying more natural ways of dealing with my asthma, and i'm willing to suffer with the allergies to some degree rather than use any more meds. i'd have to say that the best thing that's happened from quitting singulair has been sleep. i used to say sleep was overrated. now i'm thinking i love that i often sleep 4-6 hours at a time and if i wake up, i go right back to sleep. my sleepwalking has been so much less. i used to do it 4 to 6 times a week. now only maybe a dozen times in the past year.
anyway..just wanted to say i'm really glad i found this website and woke up to the dangers of singulair.

Have taken 500mg Levaquin for 10 days on numerous ocassions to fight lung infections in between Cat Scan follow-ups for Lung Cancer since 2006.

Worked fine for my lungs, and I've been LC free for some time. Two months ago rt elbow swelled up, first like a mushy sack, now more firm, size of an egg, no pain then or now. Few weeks later Lt elbow began to swell but not as large and no pain. Dr. said wait few weeks and he'll refer me to surgeon. Now this FDA report on Levaquin has me wondering. I have full motion and no pain. Could this be a pre-cursor to possible tendon damage from Levaquin. Your input would be appreciated. Bill B

I took Lipitor for 2 years with all the pain in my shoulder, hand and arm as well as fuzzy memory. I had a friend over for Lunch an have no memory of anything that happened including his arriving and leaving on his Harley and we all know how loud they are. I ended up in the hospital with all kins of tests including an MRI all of which I have no memory of to this date. My hospital bills are still coming in as well as all the Doctors that saw me. I just received my Divorce and then this happened , I was out of work for a week , the Doctors thought I had had a heart attack, stroke or aneurysm.I also had all the foot pain making it impossible to stand up , leg cramps, sleeplessness, sheer exhaustion, depression, headache and nausea. The Doctor at the Hospital took me off of the Lipitor and said to take a 325mg. aspirin daily . This happened on March 23, 2008 . I am felling better but I still pain in my shoulder , neck , stomach , and feet and legs but is nothing like it was. Here I am left with a few thousand dollars of Doctor and Hospital bills. Why can`t something be done about all of this we are all going thru? I called the FDA to report it and got no where. Did I really expect anything to happen ! I hope someone gets something done for us . I would be one of the first to sign up to take Lipitor off the market and get what is due us.

In September of 2007 my then 13 year old daughter was put on Singular for mild asthma. At the time she was a straight A student, vice president of our school and a popular girl who's guidance counselor described as "the glue of her grade" because she was so well liked. In November she told me that she was struggling with advanced Latin and Science. She asked to drop down to on grade Latin so we did. In December her science teacher notified us that she had a C average. She told me that she thought she had ADD/ADHD and she couldn't keep up. At the same time she was having a lot of problems with friends at school and we just attributed it to being 14. 3 weeks ago we discovered that she is significantly behind in English and it was then that she told me that she is been having horrific night mares. She said that they usually involve someone killing her or her killing herself. She said that they were so graphic that she couldn't repeat it out loud. She also said that she would feel waves of anxiety that would come over her at school and she would act "witchy" to the kids in her class for no real reason. She said that sometimes when she is trying to do her homework she will read the same passage for 2 hours and still have no idea what it's about. She also said that the suicidal thoughts from her sleep happened during they day and that she had thoughts of her harming herself. Fortunately her pulminologist told us that this may be caused by singular and we immediately took her off of it which was 2 weeks ago. She has only had 1 "bad dream" not even a nightmare since. She had one anxiety attack 3 days after she was off it and she describes her moods as the "cloud lifting....slowly". Now, we have to pick up the pieces. Her grades have suffered, her friendships have suffered and most of all her self esteem is very low. I'm grateful that we found out the cause but I feel as if my daughter lost a year of her life and I worry that because Merck won't admit there are side effects we can't find out how long it remains in their system. Is anyone else concerned about the long term affect and has anyone pursued a class action suit to try to get this drug tested properly?

Unfortunately my lawyer told me that they do not want to take our case because of the lack of evidence that Singulair has caused our daughters problems. :(

Does anyone out there have a pending class action lawsuit that We may be able to get in on? I have tons of proof that Singulair has caused our daughters problems and loss of almost 5 years of her elementary school career!

My phone number is *** and my email is ****** if You email me please put "Singulair" in Your subject line so I know it pertains to this posting.

Thank You in advance,

I am a mental health professional. I was on Singulair for 6 years. After hearing of the psychiatric side effects, I stopped it. The suicidal ideations have stopped, the depression and anxiety are decreasing. This information should have been made public long before now. And to think that I had actually calculated whether I had enough drugs on hand to accomplish suicide. I hold Merck responsible for putting myself and others through this torment.

I am Cody Millers mom ,the boy who died from Suicide while on Singulair for 17 days, I just wanted to say one thing to all of you that take the time to post.GO ONE STEP FURTHER CONTACT THE FDA and report to medwatch .The investigation needs evidence like your stories to help make informed decisions about this drug. The poorly orchestrated disclosing campaign that Merck had supposedly set out to accomplish in 2007, has obviously not reached the mass majority of people using this drug .Seeing now how many people did not make the connection to these HIDDEN AND DANGEROUS SIDE EFFECTS.Our child's pharmacy sheet that came with the medicine ,showed none of the updated side effects. They were added in April 2007,I filled the prescription in July 2007.Nothing had been disclosed until we put forth this effort to get the FDA's attention ,by asking the Senate and Congress to look into this matter.Go to your doctor and insist that they report YOUR SIDE EFFECTS to the company and the FDA.It is of the utmost importance.,Kate and Dave M.

pancreatitis,, After being prescribed Byetta for Type II Diabetes by a PA, I used the 5 dose size of Byetta for 30 days, then I went on 10 dose of Byetta twice a day. on a Saturday morning I had discomfort under my left breast after my AM injection, then after PM injection I began to experience severe pains under my left breast, they got progressively worse as the minutes went by, terrible pain, ended up in the emergency room, blood tests showed increased pancreatic enzymes, I was given a prescription and told to visit my GP on Monday. My GP knew what had caused it as soon as I told him I had been taking Byetta, he had other patients who had the same thing to happen. I called the mfg, they were aware of the problem, the FDA has put out a warning after I began taking the Byetta. There were no warnings about pancreatitis in the medicines I had received. Since this instance in December, I have talked with two others who had similar experiences with Byetta. I now am left with chronic pancreatic pain and am on meds for that. From what I have read have a 4% chance of developing pancreatitis cancer as a result of the attack. When you read the little infor out there about this, it appears to be pushed off as long time alcoholics who drink excessively are the ones who have had this problem with Byetta. I would estimate it has been at least 4 years since I have had a cocktail and have never been an alcoholic... BEWARE!!!

Dear All,
Just had Mirena removed today after getting no sleep for 3 days and constant headaches and nausea! Can't wait to have my life back! I had it since December 13th, have gone to OBGYN office 5 times reporting: heavy bleeding for 20 days, constant nausea, bloating, extreme mood swings, weight gain, headaches, cramps, insomnia, lower back pain, anxiety, breast tenderness; blurry vision , irregular heartbeat, extreme fatigued. My sex drive went from every day need to NONEXISTENT! My doctor made me feel like I am making it up.
To report the side effects to FDA:
FAX report1-800-FDA-0178 --
To report by phone1-800-FDA-1088 --
.FDA Report form 3500 to report adverse reactions can be found on the following webside https://www.accessdata.fda.gov/scripts/medwatch/medwatch-online.htm

There are lots of women for whom Mirena works, but those who may have problems should be informed. I WAS NOT! I would like to help others not to make the mistake. Please do it too!

Hi everyone! I came to this part of the website because my son has been having the same issues with Singulair. In some of the other posts, I noted that some people on the Singulair post said Zyrtec did the same thing to their kid.

I found out today that Singulair contains aspartame and I am wondering if Zyrtec does too. Aspartame could be the link in the behavioral issues. I did a google search and here is what I found: http://www.sweetpoison.com/aspartame-side-effects.html

Also, I called Merck, the maker of Singulair today, and they are sending me for free a 17 page FDA report on the drug. The representative told me that it was reported in the study that there was behavioral side effects and named just about everything my son has been displaying. I reported my child's effects to them and I also went online to FDA.gov and reported the side effects to the FDA. The more people that report the problems, the higher likely hood the FDA will review the drug and possibly pull it. I believe there was a medication from Merck that was pulled last year that was causing some type of heart problems. Again, unless we report the effects, no one will do anything.

I suggest you call the manufacturer of Zyrtec and find out what the study showed.

After two doses, 250 mg, of Levaquin, I could not move. Instead of going to work, I went to bed. Three days later, my husband took me to ER. The first guess was a stroke, because I was so disoriented and could not move. There were specialists all around me. I was tested for meningitis, lupus, West Nile, arthiritis, etc. I had severe body aches and muscle pain.I spent 1 1/2 weeks in the hospital, unable to function. Body pain, no appetite, fever/chills, twitches, weak, very tired. My legs hurt the worst - knees and especially calves. I had no idea what was going on around me. I was incoherent. The hospital staff had me finish the Levaquin prescription.

I spent the rest of the month in a rehabilitation unit learning how to eat, walk, tell time, write, and other mundane tasks. I have been off work since Oct. 7. Mentally, I'm doing ok now, but physically, I cannot walk without a cane. I cannot go up and down stairs. My knees are still a problem. Acid reflux is better. My wrists and hands are weak. If my leg is straight and I bend it, I get a burning pain in my knee ... when I am laying down. When I get up in the morning, my calves are so stiff that I cannot stand. I have to grab the furniture. My hips are weak and have lost bone density. I cannot drive yet. I still get tired easily.

I was normally a low blood pressure person with a heart rate in the 60's. Now, I am taking beta blockers. My blood pressure is beginning to come down, but my heart rate is still high for me, but safe.

The doctors were not familiar with the side effects of Levaquin. I had a sensory nueropathy before Levaquin, but was totally functional. My physician prescribed Levaquin for a sinus infection. She never would have prescribed Levaquin, if she had known that it could attack your central nervous system! (My nuerologist said that "something" recently attacked my central nervous system.) I printed out some of the experiences from this website to convince her to fill out an FDA report. I will follow through with a letter to the drug company and my congressmen. And, I have spent some time educating the medical professionals in our community. I have considered legal action, but I don't know how to go about it.

I have been going to physical therapy. Those therapists can do a lot without drugs. My coordination is improved. I even have exercises to improve my digestive tract. We worked on isolated muscles for two months. Now, I'm trying water therapy. I am not strong, but I have gained coordination.

Two other suggestions for temporary relief: 1) Use a vibrator on your calves in the morning, and 2) Wear support hose/socks.
