HI,
I had my Mirena fitted in March 07, the first fitting was a nightmare as I went into spasm so the doctor was able to fit it, that experience was so painful so i had to go back again about 3 weeks later, that time it was a little painful but bearable. I thought at the time brilliant, no probs at all except for the obvious bleeding and cramps for the first month or so till it settles in. Things weren't too bad to start with once I stopped bleeding even though I bled every month, I did at this point start to get what looked like acne on my face which was so itchy. Then one night in July I experienced the most horrendous pains in my right side, i didn't know what to do with myself, i thought to myself I'll leave it for a few days and see how I feel, so 4 days later I went to see my doctor as I wasn't any better starting to feel worse, started getting pains in my lower abdomen, she checked me over and wasn't sure what it was, I said it feels like my reproductive organs related, she wasn't convinced !! done a few tests etc.

So she sent me home and said if I wan't any better in a few days then to come back. That I did as I felt even worse, it was so painful to walk, I felt so ill, tired, you name it. She did check to see if my coil was still in situ and it was, so she sent some swabs off and urine sample even done a pregnancy test. We can't treat you until we know what it is we're treating she said !! How great did that make me feel, come back in a few days if you're not feeling any better, yet again I done that. Eventually the doctor said we'll try you on 2 different kinds of antibiotics to see if that sorts it and treat it as a pelvic inflammatory disorder !! Both myself and my husband wasn't convinced, but I thought hey I'll try them. I had to wait a week for the test results which turned out to be all clear which I thought they would be.

I still felt so sore all on my abdomen and in my side, really hard to explain, it felt like something was pressing on my bladder when I walked and me pain, then one night both my husband were on the internet trying to see if we could find out what was wrong with me, thinking all sorts of things, then we come across this website and it answered everything.... Now the pains in my stomach and side have gone away but I seem to constantly be bleeding which isn't very good for my sex life (my poor husband), My skin looks terrible with the acne (which I never have suffered from not even in my teens) and I'm 30.. people at work even comment on it saying whats wrong with your skin !! of course I feel tired all the time and get the pains in the legs, arms, I'm really not sure what to do now, I want to get it taken out to be honest. I've said if my skin doesn't sort itself out then Its going and thats that.... I've really had enough of it now... Is it painful to have it removed?? Any answers would be appreciated.. thank you for listening, Paula from Cornwall xx

Hi Everyone,
I am a fourth year medical student and recently I started having horrible panic attacks, I feel like crying all the time and I actually feel depressed. I am a "hypochondriac" generally (I guess it comes with the territory of knowing about different diseases out there), but I have been feeling like I am going crazy. I started Yasmin in November of 2006 and I was fine for a few months. Lately, with stress at school and exams, I started feeling like I've just crumbled. I get anxiety/panic attacks (the latest one was at the movies), horrible heart palpitations, nausea, I am sweating, I can't sleep, I feel this knot in my stomach. It's horrible. I thought it was me cracking under pressure, but I was never like this before I started Yasmin. Recently, I was placed on an antidepressant because everyone assumed it was depression, but after reading this post, I really think it might be the pill. I got off it a week ago, so I hope I will see a difference. Thanks guys!!!

I have just read all of your comments on the Yasmin birth control pill and would like to state a few of mine. I have been on Yasmin for about 2 1/2 years, the first side affect that I experienced is my heart rate felt out of control at times during the first 3 months or so that I started taking it that went away thank god! I also lost about 5 pounds instintly, can't complain there. The only side affect that I am a little conserned about is my horrible mood swings and depression about 4 days before I start my period. I will take a small problem amd make it into a huge deal and I feel like crying my eyes out. Unfortunatly the one that I take this out on is my husband poor guy! Do any of you girls feel your mood swings and depression only during certain times of the month? I am honestly starting to wonder if I should change.

My doctor failed to mention these side effects when he prescribed me with Yasmin nearly 3 months ago as my first ever BCP. Since taking Yasmin I have become extremely irratic and depressed. Nothing has ever made me feel like this before. I just feel like crying all the time and nothing has changed within the past 3 months. I still have an adoring boyfriend who worships the ground I walk on, I am surrounded by fantastic friends and my family have been so supportive. I have also found that the migraines I used to suffer from have returned more painful than ever. I had 2 last weekend.

I don't want to come off this kind of birth control as it suits me well, but the mood swings and depression are starting to take over my relationships and work life.

I have been taking Yasmin just for 10 days.I dont have any hunger any more and i am eating almost nothing. Before starting Yasmin,i was so active and was able to work out and the fitness center 2 hours ,and then play tennis for 3 hours, but now i dont even feel like to walk the way to the fitness center for 15 minutes as i am feeling so weak. The worst side effect of yasmin on me is i am having nervous breakdowns, feel like crying most of the time for nothing. So now,i can see that this pills made me turn into a weak and deppressed girl who is even lazy for preparing a sandwich or walking.

This is my first birth control pill,so i cannot compare with the others but i hope there are better pills in this world, otherwise i will not be able to take them again !

I'm so glad to have found this site. I have been on Yasmin for about 3 years. I was on Alesse previously, and switched to Yasmin due to migraines. At first I had no problems with Yasmin, and I felt great. Over the past year I have noticed an EXTREME decrease in sex drive, to the point where I could hit my husband if he touched me, or I would want to cry and feel angry during sex. I have become very depressed for no apparent reason, and I would blame the low sex drive on the depression (not thinking it could be the Yasmin!!). I feel like crying daily. I have had my very first panic attack, and I have gained 10 lbs in the past year. Recently, within the past few months, I have noticed a lot of vision problems, which feels like I can't focus and have to keep blinking to try to get things to come in clear. I never heard of that effect with BC pills until reading excerpts on this site today. I am stopping these horrible pills today. THEY ARE NOT WORTH IT!! My entire personality has changed - this is not me.

Here is my story. I used OrthoTriCyclen Lo for over a year...no side effects and nothing was wrong. I decided to switch to Yasmin because it was cheaper and I was told that a lot of women were on it.
Needless to say, its been about a month since I've been on it and I feel horrible. I have such bad stomach cramps and bloating. It feels like I don't eat anything and I still have to run so fast to the bathroom. I called the GYN and she told me that it could be a virus or an upper GI infection. BUT, the thing is that I do not get sick that often. I barely get side effects with any medication I take. Yasmin is the first BCP that I have had side effects with. I guess I have to prove the GYN wrong. I know that it is a side effect and not a hallucination or virus/infection.
I constantly feel dehydrated and irritable. I also have a mild case of depression. I just don't want to talk to anyone and I feel sad. I go home after work and I will just sit there quietly and my mother always thinks that something is wrong. Sometimes I feel like crying but for no apparent reason.
Maybe this is a sign for me to stop. I guess I will have to go back to OrthoTriCyclen Lo since it worked great for me...
Maybe I should listen to my own advice...

Thank you for everyone's posts. You have been great! I wish the best to all...

Hello everyone,

I wanted to post my side effects and have questions.

I did nothing differently with my eating habits or exersize regimen:

Extreme weight loss in the begining of taking YASMIN
I didn't complain about that at first, but I started losing too much
weight.
The extreme weight loss effect went away about after 1 1/2 year and now
I have maintained pretty normal weight for myself.
It has not made me gain any weight, which I am happy about.

I had been on Ortho tri Cyclen and it made me gain 35 pounds in under
one year!!!!! I was getting pretty heavy. I eat very healthy and am
active. Must be why my doc presricbed YASMIN, she said it ha oppisite
effect, and I really did notice this effect.
Also, BAD BAD depression with Ortho tri cyclen.

Yasmin makes me:
feel like crying for no reason and irritable
ZERO ZERO sex drive
headaches! - which I never used to get.
seldom eye twiching.

I actually feel better on the " 7 day placebo pills" while I am on my
period.
This is the only time I feel sexy and aroused, and in a better mood.
This tells me something.

I have been on YASMIN for about 2 years.

i have told my OBGYN of the sex drive problem and she said that all
pills will do the same thing. She said prescribing me another BCP would
make no difference what so ever.

I also felt deppresion with YASMIN in the begining and saw my OBGYN
about it and she said to give more time for my body to adjust to YASMIN,
it did get better, but I still have these outburts or crying, anger
irritable... that is not normal, I feel so sensitive.

Has anyone tried Ortho Evra, the patch?????

I can not tolerate zero sex drive any longer.

Is there a pill that won't do this to me???????
Can any one reccomend a pill that they have been happy with??????????

I know it's hard to say because I guess every pill effects every women
different.
Please help with any suggestions

Sick and tired of Yasmin

Xanax works really well when I first started taking xanax the only side effects I had was sleepyness. BUt after a couple days it wore off it helps me deal with several issues that I have going on in my life. I have bipolar depression as well as seizure activity and it has helped me come a long way. I used to cry everyday when I first got up thinking I didnt like my life anymore but since I have been on the Xanax I dont feel like crying as much I still have my days but they arent as bad as they were a year ago.
