Yaz and Yasmin are two different pills!
(http://www.yaz-us.com) For Yaz
(http://www.yasmin.com) For Yasmin
I have been taking Yasmin for 2 months now and everything is going great!
I just wanted to post this because I noticed that some of you seemed confused and you were mistaking Yaz for Yasmin and vice versa.
I did hear a lot of bad things about Yaz though. Please check out the websites.

There are a lot of negative experiences on here, so I thought I should share my positive one. I have been on birth control off and on for about 6 years. I was on orthotricyclin for the majority of the time-off and on. After getting horrible near migraine headaches on orthotricylin every Friday before my period for about 5 months in a row my doctor and I decided to try a different pill. I was on trilevelin (sp) for 4 months and gained a few pounds and felt easily irritated and emotionally different-just cried easily and not myself. I've been on Yasmin for a month and have had a great experience. I lost the water weight I'd gained and just verified with my boyfriend that my PMS was hardly even there. Everyone is different and has different hormone levels, but so far I am very happy with Yasmin. I've been migraine free tthe whole month!

I have been on lipitor for a little over two years now. I experience extreme joint and muscle discomfort. I am also picking up weight at an alarming rate. No matter what I do to lose the weight, it's not working. I've had several blood tests, but all come back fine..but I know I don't feel well and I'm having trouble remembering things....

Levaquin cured my pneumonia but I'm now having trouble with my knees and shoulders. I can hardly bear my weight and am having trouble performing simple tasks such as reaching to answer the phone. Has anyone else suffered this way? Otherwise I feel well. I discontinued using Levequin on my doctor’s advice but when I explained my symptoms was told this was not a problem associated with Levaquin. I wonder. I'm 60 years old, very active and hope this problem is only temporary. I've got life to live!!!!

Anyone have peripheral neuropathy on Zocor? I had shooting pains down both arms for a few days one month into taking Zocor. This stopped but is replaced with intense muscle pain in arms, hands, shoulders and back - and recently hot flashes. I stopped taking the Zocor 3 days ago AMA (against medical advice) as my doc said the neuropathy is not a side effect of Zocor.

I was put on Verapamil 120mg after being taken off of Atenolol which I had been on for 5 years. I also took Lisinipril along with the Atenolol. I had a couple of rough months getting off the Atenolol as there are some side effects to doing that. I was put on th Verapamil along with Enalapril and Hydrochlorithiazide, didn't feel well. Off the Enalapril and Hydrochlorithiazide now and have increased the Verapamil to 180mg. I feel so tired but can't sleep, have no energy and my heartrate is still up there. Doctor wants to add Digoxin, will this help or make it worse. I felt better on the lower dose but it wasn't controlling the BP.
Thank you for your time and would appreciate any info.

Kim,
please remember, that being off a bcp (not only Yasmin or Yaz) for only 6 weeks really isn't very long!! Most doctor's say, that it lasts at least up to 3 months for the chemicals of the pill to leave your body completely, because it's not only in your blood but also in your tissue, and getting out of there takes much longer than getting out of your blood!! (That's another reason why drinking loads of water is so important!!!)
So even if your hormone levels maybe at the same stage than one year ago, there maybe still the side effects of Yaz, that you're experiencing, on top of the hormonal problems you've mentioned!!
Please Kim, try to stay strong and give it more time, 6 weeks off that pill really really isn't enough to say, you have to feel well again at once!! This is no cold or a flu we are or were going through!! Hormonal problems can't be solved within a few days or weeks, it definitely takes months (should be clear alone by the fact, that our cycles last about one month!).
And if you feel that an antidepressant might help you, please give it a chance. I still don't know if you had already tried the Valerian, I've mentioned a few posts before (well, although, as bitter RN told, you should not take it together with other antidepressants as ssri or such!!). I found this a very good little helper during my hardest days. It always helped me to calm down and at night it helped me to sleep. Please think about it.
Best wishes to you and I'll send you all the strenght I have left over to stand this Kim!!

My doctor recently started a control treatment for my infrequent asthma. I am a 35 year old male, light smoker, with good blood pressure, good pulse.
Up until 3 weeks ago, I treated my infrequent asthma with an albuterol inhaler. The week before Halloween, I had developed bronchitis after trying to treat my asthma with Primatene Mist and Mucinex for a week.
She immediately put me on Augmentin, Advair (100/50mcg) Singulair (10mcg) and an albuterol nebulizer.
Last monday, I went to the hospital with chest pains. It felt like someone was grabbing my chest muscles and squeezing them. The 'cramps' for lack of a better word, went up into my neck specifically around my throat. I was dizzy, sweating, trembling suffering an anxiety attack and had a racing pulse. I was checked out by the nurse(still had good BP, high pulse) but could not breathe. I was given a nebulizer treatment, and the attack subsided.
On Wednesday and Thursday of this week, I had the same symptoms. It was so bad, I had to excuse myself from Thanksgiving dinner. I never felt this way before and know I could not be suffering a heart attack every day, all day so it has to be the medication.
I stopped the Advair Thursday night. By Friday, my appetite had returned and the tremors had deminished. I still took the Singulair.
Today, with just the Singulair, I still feel 'shaky' and out of sorts. I don't feel bad, but I don't feel 'well'. I have had a near constant headache all day and get dizzy when I stand up for long periods of time.
Tonight is my last night for the Singulair. I'll report back in a day or two to let you know how it's going.
On a good note, I haven't had an Asthma attack for 3 weeks now. I've just felt like crap ever since.

If you have any information about a possible class action suit please let me know. I was on Yasmin for 6 months and my family suffered so. My marriage was at risk and my poor 2 year old son was effected. I was like a person I didn't know. The anxiey was so servere that I would check to see if my doors were locked like 3 times before going to bed. I thought I was having a complete nervous breakdown. I was so sad all the time it was terrible. I just came off the Yasmin and my doctor put me on Loestrin 24fe and I'm only on it a week and feel like myself again I can't believe it. Anyone taking Yasmin who feel like they are having a breakdown please get off of it ASAP!!!! I told my doctor I needed Xanex and he said no you just need to get off Yasmin. Feel well, Christine

Hi Guest 31105
I just wanted to let you know that It will take some time for your daughters hormones to balance again. Believe me right now they are still very off balance, and since that intricate balance is what gives you a sense of well being, the fact that they are so off (and I believe the YASMIN does this even more so than any of the other bcp for some girls) then she is not going to feel well for a few months. It WILL be on and off too, as I have experienced this as well. Dont go by when other people on this site feel good or bad, because everyones body chemistry is different. I know that personally for me it seems like there is only about a week or so that I felt good and then I would have a lot of bad days, before, during and after my period. Especially just after quitting the yasmin.
Keep in mind though that this gets better and better every month, you see birth control pills suppress the endogenous ovarian production of estradiol and progesterone resulting in low hormone levels which may be seen for 2-3 months after oral birth control pills have been stopped. Levels may return to normal within this time period. (I received my information from a lab where I have been having my hormones tested for the past 6 months.) But, I have been having a really SLOW recovery period of this balancing of my hormones, as I have seen with many girls on this site. So I believe with all the other types of bcp that someone may be on this may be true, but I think Yasmin threw my hormones so out of whack, and so OPPOSITE of my body chemistry that it is taking longer for the body to recover. So I was hoping that since your daughter was so young still and producing so many hormones still that she may recover faster (I wrote you in a earlier post) and she may still as compared to us, but it definitely is going to be months, not weeks. Dont be discouraged if she goes down hill again next month and the one after that as well. Keep telling her it is going to get better, and that as her body ovulates and goes through its cycle each month that it is producing the hormones she needs to regulate and balance her hormones. Tell her it is normal to feel great and happy for a while (it may be a week it may only be a day) and you feel like your improving, and then all of a sudden the next day or the next minute even you can feel like your whole world has fallen apart again and your back to square one. Its not like a steady improvement day to day, its more like month to month and you will only see the improvement in the fact that eventually she will start having more good days than bad, and more of her symptoms will gradually disappear. I dont know if raising the anti depressant dose will help as I said it seems to be a roller coaster of emotions as Im willing to bet in a few days she will start feeling better again as her progesterone and estrogen are going to start to rise again these next few weeks and they will be trying to balance themselves again before her next period where both hormones will fall again (Just before her period) and then the egg is released (her period) and then the hormones start to climb again after her period. So you can see why she becomes emotional at different times.
Being a nurse myself I have done tons of reading on hormones and what the body goes through in a cycle just so I can try to understand what is happening and why, but I have to tell you even knowing all I know and having the scientific facts of why I may be feeling the way I do, even I still fall into a depression and feel like I am crazy at times. Even to the point that my mom has had to do a lot of comforting to me! And Im in my 30's! So please just keep telling her to hang in there and that she is not crazy, what she is feeling is real because hormones (the right balance) are so important to our bodies our minds and our health, and the bcp wiped out that balance and now our bodies have to build this house of cards again, so to speak.
Take care and feel free to write back especially if you have any questions I will answer them as honestly as I can. Oh, and also, if your daughter does not start to feel some improvement in a least 4-5 months and I mean improvement not necessarily total recovery, I would take her to a doctor who specializes in hormones (It will take some research to find one who really does) and have her hormones tested to see if her body is having trouble balancing a particular hormone. But keep in mind it takes a long long time for complete balance as I have not even reached that stage yet, but I did set myself back by trying to restart my original bcp I was on Ortho novum for 14 yrs with no problems, and it threw my hormones off yet again! But Im hoping not as bad as the yasmin did. Only time will tell.
Sorry I wrote a book again!
Take care, I wish your daughter and all the girls on this web site the best of luck!

I have the tingling fingers and feet and face tingles too. My skin feel slimy and so does the inside of my mouth. I feel like my breath stinks and I have acid reflux I also seem to be the only person who seems to feel bloated and water retentive and has GAINED weight even though I don't have an appetite. I agree that I am moody, but I don't feel well Last night I had the worst night. I didn't sleep at all and I just hated everyone. I never felt so angry in my life and just wanted to yell and scream all night.Yet I was able to pull myself out of it and realize that I was irrational, thank goodness. I had a migraine to boot so the pain seemed intense and all the suffering with the side effects of the Topamax futile. I have never felt so depressed. I don't know if I should pack it in and go back to Elavil. 8 years of that. I am so tired of pain and pain management that just doesn't seem to work. Any answers out there.

Hi Ladies
I just thought I would update you all.
I stopped YASMIN in July last year, as I am sure you have all experienced I started to get Panic attacks, terrible anxiety I thought I had a brain tumour, I was convinced.
I did not feel right, dizzy spells, pins and needles in my hands and arms, Insomnia, etc, etc.
It did not go and lasted months non stop, I could not eat and the fear inside me was terrible, with two young children to look after I was going through hell.
I found out it was due to stopping YASMIN that was giving me these sypmptons, even though its hard to beleive you try to convince your self of this because you want to get better.
Every day and night I would come on this website and read non stop all the posts you ladies were putting in, it made me feel better, I was not going mad it was also happening to you.
I went back and forth to the doctors and drove them mad, unfortunately they have never agreed it was the YASMIN that had done this to me, but we know it is, I don't know what is in this horrible drug but to change your life iupside down it should not be on the market.
I have been going to a councillor for 6 months now and I would like to let all you ladies know it will and does get better, I have a panic attack and anxiety very very rarely now, and when I think back to how bad I was I can't beleive I went through such a horrible time, there is light at the end of the tunnell and when this horrible drug is out of your system you WILL start returning to normal.
I feel well now and just wanted to let all you ladies know, I desperately needed this site when I was at my worst and thought I would give you all a bit of hope.
Take Care

I have been taking 100mg of Topamax daily for 9 months now. At first I noticed being confused, and slight memory problems, but now I am having serious health issues. I have extreme pain in my legs, most joints, middle and upper respitory pain(mostly at night), and just don't feel well. 6 months ago I was running half marathons, now I can barely exercise for 30 minutes a day. My Dr.'s have no idea whats going on, but tell me that Topamax is not the problem. I don't think they know what their talking about.

I have taken trimethoprim for two doses and those havent been as close as they should have been over two days and not the full dose at that as I took 200mg last night and felt so horrible, with a very dry mouth, high high anxiety couldnt sleep and didnt feel well at all.. depite drinking lots and lots as advised when taking it
..I just was starting to feel better during today as if it was wearing out of my system and I still have the urinary infection so tonight I took half a dose (ie 100mg) and here I am sitting up into the night scouring the Internet for side effects or drug interactions that may not be on the leaflet with the meds, but maybe what I am having, as I feel exactly the same as last night, high high anxiety, cant sleep and dry mouth (very). I dont think I want to continue this medication and will call my Dr tomorrow for another antibiotic to clear the UTI.
Was quite releived when I came across this site with people mentioning high anxiety and very dry mouth and feeling plain awful!

I found this web site today and I could not stop sobbing. I have been diagnosed with 'stress' and anxiety, and was given cymbalta and zanax which made all my Yasmin symptoms that much worse. I knew I wasn't suffering from stress-the symptoms and the lack of a correct diagnosis were causing me stress.
My side effects began the first month I was on Yasmin. I called my doctor to complain of the nausea, weight loss, spotting, and general "yuck" feeling I had. I was told to keep taking it and that those symptoms were normal for the first four months. The nausea did indeed go away, so did the weight loss and spotting.
I took Yasmin for the next (nearly 3) years. I now have the full blown symptoms which crept up on me and have been misdiagnosed since November '05. My side effects include awful constant chest pain, chest pressure, chest fluttering, occasional pain in my left upper arm, pain under my jaw, occasional breathlessness, mental unclearness, hair loss, unwanted hair growth, depression, nightmares, sweats, thoughts of dying, mood swings, weight gain, bad headache during my period, and a feeling that I was going crazy!
I am both saddened and relieved to see I am not alone. After leaving a cardiologist who told me there was nothing wrong with me, I decided to look into this nagging suspicion I had about Yasmin. I had been taking Low Ogestrel (sp?) for years without incident. At my 2003 gyno visit my doctor switched me to Yasmin because "it is better". I remember thinking he must have some incentive to switch me to a new brand when I didn't have a problem with the one I was on. That first month I was on Yasmin I didn't feel well and called my gyno.. Then I just trusted and let it go, after all my initial side effects seemed to go away.
I have been to several doctors including my family doctor, the ER doctor and a cardiologist for this nightmare. I have told each one that I am taking birth control pills yet not one even asked me what kind. That bugged me and eventually led me to this site with the hope of finding my syptoms listed. I have an appointment to see my gyno. this week. He has been away since my discovery. I hope there is something to be done. I can't stand living like this. This is not me. Thank you for sharing your stories, it is the most help I have recieved so far-I am not alone and someone out there 'gets' it. I am going to show these stories to my doctor in the hope that he will inform his other Yasmin taking patients to be on the look-out for these symptoms. I do not wish for anyone to suffer as I am. Good luck to you all.

My 3 year old daughter has been sick from day one. When she was born she had what they thought was colic. For 1 year. She also has eczema and rhinitis. At 18 months she had some peanut butter and wipe it on her face. She had this huge red mark where the peanut butter touched. So the began the allergy testing. She is now allergic to dairy, eggs and peanuts. But it is all mainly atopic. She breaks out in horrible itchy eczema sores. So they have given her Zyrtec and Singulair. She has been on it for about six months straight. And I think she has had Zyrtec for 3 years. Well she is, for lack of a better word, horrible. I never thought anything about it because she has always cried from day one. Now I am beside myself I dont know what to do with her. I am wondering if i should take her off these meds to see if she acts better. I have a son who is a joy to be around and she is not so much. I know she doesn't feel well. She doesn't look well. She looks so pale and sickly. Has anyone heard of mood swings or mental damage from these drugs?

I am a 47 year old peri-menopausal woman who was put on this pill to regulate irregular and very heavy menstrual periods. I did not bargain for what I got in return.
I was on this pill for 2 years before my internist suggested that the problems that I was having might be related to this pill. I had had ulcerative colitis many years ago and then it calmed down for 10 years, until about 4 months after being on this pill, it came back with a vengeance, as did many other intestinal and issues with my digestive system.
In addition, about 1 1/2 years after being on this pill, I started having insomnia for about half the days in the month, and also feeling wired and paranoid about things that did not make any sense. Then the panic attacks started. I was told that I was anxious because of my colitis and prescribed anit-anxiety medications.
I did not realize all of this was from this pill, I thought maybe a change in life coming or maybe my colitis. Well, I decided to throw all the pills away mid-cyle anyway. Why take a chance?
It has been about 3 1/2 months since I stopped taking them and it has taken all this time for me to feel like my old self. I have not had a panic attack in quite awhile, and I have anxiety only occassionally. Also, many of my digestive issues have improved, but I am still not back to 100 percent. I think some of this IS related to a change in life coming, but definitely not all of it.
If you are a 40+ woman, and your doctor suggests a low dose pill, specifically, Yasmine, think again. Yes, it does control pre-mentstual bloating, and Yes, it was easy to keep my weight down on this pill. But in doing so, I did not feel well most days. Think about it. Taking it may be like making a deal with the devil.
Good luck to all who have been on this awful "medicine"

Hi everyone,
I have been on synthroid for eight years, it has not right for me. I started a combined T3 T4 medication a year ago and that made a great difference. I have now stopped all T4 and am taking T3 only in the form of Cytome, this leaves me feeling more alert, clear head, more energy and I am only on this for a week! You have to introduce the medication gradually, suddenly changing and taking the full dose all at once is a shock on the system, I break the tablets and take them over the day. I have to day taken a full tablet for the first time. I intend to take the medication spread over the day as T3 needs to be taken this way, unless you get a slow release form and this I have not come across, as yet. To be honest to ask the Dr for htis might just push him toot far!! I am grateful to have had the co operation of the Dr to try this T3 on its own, other Drs might have resisted. The body needs T3 to make T4, so it makes sense that we supply what we are deficient in, as opposed to giving the body the end product. I have read that there is a chance that the body will adjust with the T3 and start producing its own and then we can cut back on our medication and eventually stop. Thyroid medication has an effect on the heart, just as hypothyroidism has a negative effect on the heart. Taking too much synthroid can case severe heart trouble, the aim should be to take as little as possible but to take enoght to feel well. I personally will not take synthroid again. I found armour which is the combined tablet a much improvement and now I feel the popsitive effects of having no T4. I will keep monitoring andif I feel it necessary I will take some T4 again but to be honest I know I need to regularily monitor my blood test having tests for T$ and T3 and also free T3s. Take your body temperature every two or three hours a day and if your are consistenty below normal then this is a sign that your need T3. My body temperature is never normal always very low and no amount of T4 affects this. T3 is gradually increasing the temperature.
Hope this helps some folk.

I began taking levaquin on February 16, 2005 and took 500 mg/day for 4 days for bronchitis. The first night I woke up hurting in my hips and elbows. The next two nights I woke up with severe aching in joints and bones and a throbbing head ache, the last night I woke up with severe aching. When running errands on Saturday my feet and legs throbbed and cramped. It felt like the flu, only worse and I had to force myself to eat. This is a horrible drug and I will never take it again. It helped clear my chest some, still a little wheezing, but my head is still not clear from the sinus. What's wrong with a good old z-pac? Today is Tuesday, I did rest better the last two nights but still do not feel well, still achy and just don't feel like things are right with my body.

I wish I had seen this page BEFORE I finished 5 days of Levaquin 500. The meds were prescribed for a post-upper-respiratory infection hacking dry cough that had been going on for nearly 3 weeks. I finished the meds 4 days ago and still feel super crummy. Levaquin did nothing for the cough (acunpuncturist stopped it with with several well-placed needles in my outer ear) and - before I saw this page - thought of asking the doctor for another round since I was still sick and seem to be getting worse. I have intermittent headaches, a racing heart, blurred vision, am so tired I never want to get out of bed. I'm also having a recurrence of sciatica in one hip and thigh and - new symptom! - the foot on that side is so sore it's hard to put my weight on it. I was told to report any joint or tendon pains but, according to the doctor, "they are very rare." I'm sure he told me about the symptom to protect himself "just in case" but it was clear he really didn't believe there would be problems. I took the medicine for three days, then stopped for a day because I didn't feel well. Then I thought, "Suck it in - there's only 2 pills to go and then you won't infect anyone. You don't want to be Typhoid Mary for the next antibiotic-resistant killer strain of some bug or another, do you?" I am devastated to think these symptoms will persist as long as people on this site say they will. I keep thinking I can sleep this off, or that I'm really sick with something that requires a different antibiotic. ( And how stupid is THAT?) But, from what I've read here, that's not likely to be the case. I'm 67 years old and already have compromised immune system plus sleep apnea, high blood pressure, narcolepsy, and asthma. Is there anyone out there who has been able to resolve these symptoms in less than three months? I refuse to believe I have to feel this way for the foreseeable future. And boy, am I mad! At myself as well as at the doctor. I usually research everything before I take it, but this one just slipped under the wire.
