(SIGH) well, with great relief i can say i'm not alone in the war against BC pills and side effects. the weirdest things started happening to me when i began taking yasmin - the 1st night i got my period after taking it i has THE WORST period pain EVER!!! so bad that i popped a mersyndol and no lie, within 30mins my sister was driving me to the emergency ward - i literally thought i was dieing. Anyway, turns out i had a MONSTER of an anxiety attack and a (viral) ear infection at the same time... GREAT!
at the time i had no idea what was causing my 'so called' spazo attacks - i just thought i had some horrid ear virus which would last a couple of months and clear up (the docs agreed). when it didn't start clearing up i started seeing docs on a regular basis, paying thousands for all sorts of tests even did the whole allergy testing thing thinking i'm seriously intolerant to something but to no avail... 4 years later and i'm still struggling with the following symptoms: dizziness (and i mean ALL the time), it's more like being lightheaded not so much dizzy spells, nausea, bloating, sore throat, tired/no motivation, weight gain 8 kgs in 3-4 yrs, i'm 29 (female) so i guess my body thinks it about to have babies... pressure headaches, ear ringing, my sex drive has packed up and left town, blah blah blah, i could go on... anyway, last month i went off yasmin (only cos i ran out) and spent 4 weeks al'natural. i got my period only a couple of days last and last sun i went back to the doc for gen exam and thought while i'm here i'll get a script for yasmin again... took my 1st pill on mon just gone - i can't tell you how rotten i've felt this week, i just thought it's prob pms or something no joke, everything has come back new and improved - now the dizziness is worse 10 fold, the bloating horrid... i've had a headache for 3-4 days now, constantly running to the loo. i feel like a TOTAL wreck!!! my husband thinks it's just women's stuff... pfffffft!!! he noticed i've been edgy all week and keeps asking 'what's up with you' and me thinking it's pms or something kept saying 'nothing honey' - well thanks to everyone who posted here i now know better!
oh, forgot to mention, after having my HUGE panic attack, the doc prescribed by 5mgs of lexapro daily and i've been taking that for almost 3 yrs - not sure if that's even good for my poor body...? helps with anxiety but purely masks the symptoms, hasn't cleared up - even the psychologist gave up cos she couldn't work out what was causing the anxiety... PFFFFT doctors... honestly!
good luck to everyone and head up guys, i know it's a painful process but eliminating the cause can take FOREVER and still i may neveer know what caused it...

Hi all,
I've been taking it for a month now and for the last 2 weeks I,ve been having nightmares every single night, severe musle pain in my legs, my arms feel weak and shaky, my mouth and nose are extremely dry. I have itchy skin - the itchiness attacks are so bad - I can't control them, and also I have very strange headaches -at the back of my head and neck - not just a muscle tension, migrating all over the scalp.
I don't have an asthma, but I had a very bad sinus and ear infection, and was feeling dizzy, so my doctor advised me to give it a try. Singulair has eliminated those symptoms in 2 days, but the side effects are even worser.

wow so i was completely freaking out because i just couldn't figure out what was wrong with me. My breasts were killing me-which i was beginning to think i was prego, but wasn't seeing ne real reason why i should be. I started having mood swings, feeling extremely depressed, and breaking down and crying over every little thing in my life. I keep getting migrains (which i have never had before) and feeling dizzy to the point of passing out, and nausea. Also i have excess discharge, and kept feeling like i had a yeast infection but realized that it was simply just the ring that is irritating me. Im completely fed up with feeling this way, and just dont want to deal with the emotions, or pain anymore. Im going to my gyno on monday to try and figure out a different type of birth control to go on. Its going to be rough sticking it out through the rest of this week!!

I used Visine for Contacts for 2-3 weeks with no problems. I was using them in the morning when I put my contacts in and again in the afternoon after getting home from work. Then, one day I used them twice in the morning (a few hours apart) and it caused an allergic reaction. The extra Visine that ran down my cheek left a mark that was very red. About 15 minutes after this happened, I started feeling dizzy and had trouble breathing. My heart also started beating very fast and my fingers felt tingly and numb.
My husband took me to the doctor and I was feeling better by the time I got there, but from the symptoms he said it definitely sounded like an allergic reaction.

i so happy to have found this forum. i'm 47 was given 25mg of Toprol XL by doc for high blood pressure approx 9 weeks ago. also have history of panic attacks and rapid pulse rate and have been under alot of stress. first week on med, found my B.P. dropping too low 90's/50's, feeling dizzy and extremely tired in the middle of the day. called doc and was instructed to keep taking it, i'll get used to it, and don't make sudden movements!!! i didn't take his advice and cut pill in 1/2 to 12.5mg. then got extreme muscle and joint aches (a feeling very much like lyme disease) this was accompanied with profuse sweating upon minimal exertion and just no energy and shortness of breath even during an easy moderate walk. i think my heart beat has become more irregular. 2nd month into this low dose noticed chest pains so i tried the pill every other day. this weekend got the scare of a lifetime, however, got out of bed and entire left side (arm leg and foot) were numb. i had a major panic attack. this stuff is poison. i haven't taken a pill since. i'm going to find a different doctor this week (a D.O./MD) and hopefully devise a hollistic approach before i try another drug. ps also weight gain, but that's seems to be the least of the bad side effects.

I had been taking Zocor for 10 days when I woke up in the night with heart palpitations, wobbly legs, a severe headache and dizziness. Shortly afterwards, my legs began to twitch on their own and cramped up. This happened several nights in a row. Then the twitching spread into my arms and neck. My muscles became very sore, then weak to the point where I couldn't stand up long enough to take a shower or get out of bed without help. Thankfully after being off of Zocor for 3 weeks I am getting some of my strength back, but I am plagued with a constant headache and dizziness, sometimes nausea and vomiting. Tests for muscle enzymes, liver damage, etc. have all come back with normal results. I am 21 years old and Zocor has made me feel about 75. Like others on this site my doctor did not think the problems had anything to do with the Zocor, but helpfully suggested I try incorporating more fat into my diet.
Can anyone tell me from experience how long I can expect these side effects to last? I've been out of work for 3 weeks and can't go back until I stop feeling dizzy and can stand up/walk for a full 8 hours.

I have been an herbal consultant for 20yrs. Recently, for the past two year was under enormous stress. 7/5 I had muscle spasms in my heart along with cramping in my left arm for two days. Went to emergency room they admit me and released me 7/9 and the doctor ordered lisinopril and labetalol. This morning I took the lisinopril and felt dizzy. I was feeling dizzy in the hospital and told the nurse. She looked at me and said I know (with a frustrated look) it's the blood pressure meds. For years I have been taken calcium and magnesium in liquid form and it has helped until the stress attack so I became frightened. I did a little research and found Lisinopril was SNAKE VENOM? Has anyone done any research on the long term effects of SNAKE VENOM? It can't be good. I am going back to the calcium and magnesium and give my stress to someone who I forgot created me. GOD! I would really appreciate anyone emailing me****** regarding any research done on long term use of snake venom. Thanks

I'm 31 and a recovered cancer patient (in remission since 2001). I've been trough it all. Surgery, chemo, radiation, BMT's, you name it. I currently suffer from three separate sleep disorders, as well as hypothyroidism. As you can imagine, I've grown to become very in tune with my body. And, having gone through everything I have over the years, and having taken all kinds of medications, I have never experienced such dissatisfaction and such a high level of negative side-effects as I have with Toprol XL.
My primary care doctor, who is also a cardiologist, put me on Toprol XL to treat an elevated heart rate -- as a result of all my past health issues, my auto-regulatory system is, as he puts is, “just messed-up now.” He started me on 50 mg a day. Immediately, I experienced trouble breathing: I woke one night and felt as though I was drowning. Over the course of about 8 months, he's lowered my dose to 12.5 mg a day. And, for a while, that seemed to be OK. But, recently, the trouble breathing has returned.
I'm at a point now where I'm afraid to go to sleep -- the moment I lie down, I find myself gasping for air. All day long, I have a constant wheezing. I can't go up a flight of stairs without needing to sit down and catch my breath -- I feel as though I'm about to faint from loss of air. I spend most of my day with a sensation of being suffocated. I cough frequently, but it gives me no relief.
I have noticed other side effects. Notable is the weight gain. I've never in my life weighed more than 145 lbs. I’m 163 now. I was blaming the weight gain on the thyroid, but I'm on a fairly high dose of that medication, and I've yet to experience any loss of weight. I'm gaining, despite only eating one meal a day. I attribute this weight to the Toprol.
Also, I have been experiencing moments of extreme anxiety -- this is very unusual for me. I also want to say that never once during all my dealings with cancer did I ever experience depression, and that right there should give you an indication of what type of person I am. Yet, now, since being on the Toprol XL, I find I lack the energy and desire to do much of anything anymore.
My doctor seems very quick to dismiss my concerns, telling me, "you need to give this medication a chance." I think 8 months of my life is enough -- I have lost all patience with this medication, and I'm just about losing it with him, as well. I didn't survive cancer and all the other complications that came with it just to have my life brought to a total standstill by a single medication. This is so infuriating.
I'm making an appointment to speak with my doctor right away. If he continues to insist I stay on Toprol XL and ignore my concerns, I will tell him I no longer feel comfortable with having him as my primary care physician. I want my life back.

I feel the same and guest 40431 if I skip a few days because I cant get to the pharmacy right away I start feeling dizzy and light headed. When I blink my eyes I feel this weird feeling of
electricity that goes all through my body. It happens when I
blink or swallow. It is the weirdest sensation and I dont like it
at all. If I miss a few day I begin to cry alot and feel a sense of wanting to kill myself. I take the effexor XL 75mg I just hope things will get better. This is very scarey. I dont want to be addicted to anything. When I go to my doctor in a few days I will have a serious chat with him reguarding this medication. I was told that it is very safe and not addicting.
God help us all in the world of medications.

I have been on Bupropion SR for about a month now. I had severe depression stemming from past incidents that I was unable to get over on my own. I started at 150 mg once a day and the first 2 days I felt nothing. The third day I caught myself grinning and laughing! However, on the 5th day, my doctor upped it to 150 mg twice a day. After the fourth day of that I started feeling irritable and tired. After a week of it I started feeling dizzy, nausea, anxiety, shaky, and just generally weird. I went to a different doctor and told her the symptoms and she reduced me to 100 mg twice a day. The dizziness is gone but the irritability is still present although manageable if I just think before I speak. I also have lost about 5 pounds. I notice that some days I have no appetite and others I am ravenous. The worst side effect so far is the anxiety. I have never had it before and now when the least little event or conflict is present I start getting a churning feeling in my stomach and restlessness. As for insomnia, I do stay up too late but once I force myself into bed I pass right out. I get sleepy around 2:00pm which is when I take the second pill and sometimes can't stop myself from falling asleep at my computer at work. My dreams were more intense and lucid when I was on 300mg a day but they seem to have gone back to normal now.

I had mild heart attack 6 weeks ago. I had a 90% blockage in one artery and minimal or none in the others. I Left the Hospital with a mdicated stent and on Topral XL and Lisinopril, and Lipitor. Since then, no energy, depression, insomnia, generally bad feeling. I stopped topral and lisinopril 4 days ago. My BP and heart rate are still very low 40 to 60 beats per minutes, BP 110 to 120 over 60 to 80. How long do these drugs stay in your system? 52 year old male with no other health issues and previously active life.

I'm 31 and recently diagnosed with hypertension - back in February. Lisinopril was prescribed at 2.5mg.
After the first month this had little to no affect. My BP was still in the 150s over 111s. Dose was doubled to 5mg.
Started getting pains in my knees. Felt like I could not stretch my legs enough. Also starting feeling dizzy, anxious, exhusted and had some stomach issues. Diet became an issue because I was either ravanously hungry or could not face food at all.
On Monday I was at the hospital for more checks to try and find the cause of my hypertension. Blood tests, urine tests, cholestoral checks, eye tests, ECG - all repoted very healthy.
However, even on 5mg of Lisinopril my BP was well in to the late 140's / 110's. I'm due to have more tests in a month but my Lisinopril dose has been doubled again, this time to 10mg.
I'm having real trouble concentating, very bad leg pains, stomach has got much worse and I am totally exhusted. The only thing that has subsided in recent weeks is the anxiaty but I think this is due to the fact that I have started smoking again - after not smoking for 8 months.
I'm very glad this site is first on the search engine (can I name it?, the one that begins with G!). I thought I was maybe suffering from a prolonged mild flu.
I have an appointment tomorrow and will discuss these side affects. If anyone is interested I will post the response.
Thanks for sharing this information. It is very helpful

My husband got put on Lisinopril for high blood pressure and developed the cough that everyone seems to get. He was taken off of it and was put on another medicine and the coughing stopped. Later I was put on Lisinopril for having too much protein in my urine. The first time something happened was that my throat felt very swollen and it was hard to swallow but it went away within 2 hours and I ignored it. The second thing that happened was that my upper lip swelled three times it's normal size. I took some Benedryl and after about an hour it went down. Two days later my husband rushed me to the ER because I couldn't breathe, swallow and I was feeling dizzy. I tried to take some Benedryl but I couldn't swallow it. It turned out I was going into anaphylactic shock. The ER doctore told me it was because of the Lisinopril. He told me that the swelling of the throat and breathing problems were a common side effect. I discontinued taking it and since have had no problems.

been on Yasmine for 3 months. 28 yrs old. been on other pills that made me suicidal, moody, etc, but this was the first pill that made me feel actually normal. this is the most expensive pill in Australia- $60 for 3 packs. had severe headaches & nearly fainted. speach problems. thought i had a stroke, but was just a severe headache. major decrease in sex drive. loss in appetite (yeah). numbness in legs (really sore) if sit at desk during day. did actually like that my periods were so much shorter & lighter, & not painful. i get the fainting & feeling dizzy thing too. BUT- am going off it now, due to the constant headaches, leg soreness. am going to miss the non- consequences of spontaineous sex.

I literally put it in last night. Immediately I got a headache. I went to work in the morning and noticed my head was still aching, but it got so bad when I got to the office I was forced to take the nuvaring out. I never get headaches, so I knew it was the ring, especially since I saw that was a side effect. I also got nauseated for no reason, feeling dizzy, and as the headache got more painful, I noticed lights were extremely brighter and started almost flashing. Isn't that a migraine? I never get those. So right after I took it out, I felt better. I'm glad the first ring was free because I'm not getting any others. What makes me really angry is this is the third form of hormonal birth control I've used and they are all awful. Are doctors trying to kill us??? Why on earth can't they invent something that doesn't make us gain weight, doesn't kill our sex drive, and doesn't put us on the crazy train to nutsville with the mood swings??? Jeez. I've had it. I'm trying the Today Sponge next.

I am 31, and normally healthy.About a month ago, I started feeling dizzy and naueated. I went to my doctor and after numerous blood tests and an MRI, they could not find anything wrong with me. Two weeks later I started having extreme anxiety which lasted for about a week straight, I was also very emotional and weepy which is not normally like me. I had my doctor check for a hormone imbalance and just as he thought my hormones were all off. He precribed Yamin, which I have been taking for 3 weeks now. The anxiety is gone but I am still dizzy and very nauseated. I have also started getting rashes /hives on my arms and legs which usually go away within 1-2 hours. My breasts are also very tender. Does anyone know how long I should expect for my body to get used to this? This is the first time I have ever taken the pill

I STARTEDD TAKING EFFEXOR FOR DEPRESSION BY TAKING 75MG. THEN I WAS UPPED TO150MG. THIS WAS SUPPOSED TO INCREASE MY ENERGY LEVELS. I QUIT TAKING EFFEXOR 150 LAST THURSDAY(7/14/05)BY FRIDAY I WAS FEELING DIZZY BY SATURDAY I WAS HAVING TROUBLE WITH BALANCE AND JOLT'S TO MY HEAD. I HAD A BAD HEADACHE AND TROUBLE WALKING STRAIGHT. I WENT ONLINE TO SEE WHAT THE SIDE EFFECT'S WERE FOR THIS DRUG AND WAS VERY SURPRISED TO SEE THAT A WHOLE LOT OF OTHER PEOPLE ARE GOING THRU THE SAME THING. MY DOCTOR NEVER TOLD ME ABOUT THE SIDE EFFECTS OR HOW ADDICTIVE THE DRUG WAS FOR IF SHE (THE DOCTOR)HAD,I WOULD NEVER HAD STARTED THEM FOR DEPRESSION. ONE OF THE OTHER THINGS I HAVE DEVELOPED WAS A PERSISTANT COUGH THAT AT TIMES WOULD END IN A COUGHING JAG AND I WOULD THROW UP. I DIDN'T DO THIS BEFORE THE PILL.
I HAVE NOW BEEN OFF THEM FOR 4 DAYS AND IT'S BEEN HELL BUT I AM FEELING BETTER. FOR ME COLD TURKEY IS THE ONLY WAY I CAN GET OFF. IF THERE IS A CLASSACTION LAW SUIT GOING I WOULD LIKE TO BE A PART OF THAT.

I was diagnosed in 1996 with depression by the VA. My depression became worse, and in 2001 Sept. I was also diagnosed with not only depression but also Bipolar disorder. I was prescribed Olanzapine for three months. When I noticed during that time I was feeling dizzy all the time, my vision was blurry, I was extremly thirsty, and urinating all the time. I stopped taking the med. after three months time because I felt it was the Olanzapine that was making me sick. By then it was to late. I went back to my doctor with the same side effects described earlier and she told me to get some blood work done right away, I got the blood work done and come to find out my blood sugars were up to 590 range. I was told I had diabetes. Even though this particular medicine has diff. effects with each individual person I strongly advise anyone who is thinking about taking it not too. I was on oral meds to control the diabetes, but now I am taking insulin shots twice a day!! I am presently pending a lawsuit with VA and the Pharmacutical company. Please be careful taking this lethal drug!!!!!!!!

I took Welchol for about a week. Then, one morning, after taking it with my oatmeal, about half an hour later, I started feeling dizzy. I had to stop what I was doing and lie down. The dizziness kept getting worse and worse until the room was spinning out of control. I finally threw up, and all that came up was the white, chalky medication, NOT the oatmeal I had eaten earlier! I was weak and shaky for days after this episode, and now I'm afraid to take any more Welchol.

I've had two Procrit injections and noticed that I've been feeling dizzy, shortness of breath, increased heart rate, and chest pains since I've gotten them. I don't like feeling this way! I'm not going to take them anymore! I'm sure there are some foods and/or vitamin supplements that can help increase my blood count.
