I have been on lisinopril since January 07. I had a drug eluting stent put in my heart Feb 05, and after a bad experience with Beta Blockers had to go off of them, and try to find natural ways to help my heart/pulse rate. The lisinopril has helped with the pulse spikes, and lowered my bp, but the past three months I have been experiencing really bad cramps on the left side of my body and in chest. Very frightening and uncomfortable, wake you up in the middle of the night. both legs, and kidney area. Cannot carry my purse or anything heavy on left side. Also had bad cough in the morning. It got so bad this weekend thought I was going to have a heart attack. I awoke this morning realizing that maybe, just maybe it is the BP medication. Would not be the first time I have had problems with the poisen doctors hand out. I want to find a natural supplement that will lower my bp, without the lisinopril it was about 150/90, not great, but not too crazy. I think I won't refill the lisinopril and see how it goes....any ideas out there?

I was started on Toprol XL 50 mg 3 weeks ago and am stopping it immediately. I have had 3 trips to the ER with shortness of breath and left sided chest pain. Other symptoms include a 10 pound weight gain, leg/feet swelling, difficulty swallowing, tremendous fatigue, headache, periods of feeling faint/lightheaded, extreme nausea and constipation with abdominal bloating. I have never felt so horrible in my life and will NEVER take this drug again.

Sickofbeingsick,
I know how you are feeling and believe me, before reading this board, I thought I was falling apart. I did not see the connection of Yasmin and its side effects to the way I was feeling. I thought I was getting old.
My BP never goes under 150/90, my heart rate is always 100+, I have awakened in the middle of the night with panics and anxiety like never before. I was feeling faint on several occasions, I had such anxiety that I could not control my trembling. Everyone thought it was the stress of 2 kids, etc...
I really do believe that there is a connection with our side effects and taking Yasmin.
I took my last Yasmin on Saturday.
I hope that you feel better very soon! Post here... the people are so helpful.

I have been reading the posts with great interest, and as a frequent prednisone flyer, I have a Canadian perspective that may or may not be helpful. (Please be patient as typing and prednisone don't mix with me :>)
But back to the point. During my years of prednisone useage, I have always been told that long term prednisone use shuts down the adrenal glands, not enhances it. Which is why after a period of two weeks,(the time it take for them to shut down approximately, continued use of prednisone takes over what the adrenal glands formally did. (ie. regulate metabolism, and provides resistance to stress; ie. temperature extremes, high altitudes, bleeding, infection, surgery, trauma, dental work and good old stress. It also has the bonus of raising blood pressure if and when a body needs it.) A lot of the side effects I have read come from the prednisone directly, and indirectly from non-functioning adrenal glands. Furthermore, we are told it takes roughly a year (sometimes longer), for full adrenal gland function to come back, and why, if during this time you do need surgery, dental work, or get an infection, or in an accident, it is not uncommon to have to go back on the prednisone until the 'stress' is fixed. The symptoms of low pressure (feeling faint, sweating, dizzy etc.) is usually the first sign that the adrenal glands are not working at full capacity yet.
Knowing all of that, I sincerely wish I had known that if one is depressed, anxious or suffering from panic attacks prednisone compounds the emotional problems greatly. Or
simply creates them as side effects. If you have existing psychological difficulties, sleeping 2 hours in 24, massive, unpredictable mood swings, (for me it was not so much mood
'swings' per se, more like bad, worse, and would someone please put me out of my misery.) For me, I know prednisone turns me into a 'speedfreak'. I can't sit still, can't talk, walk or smoke fast enough. I was very lucky after a stressful last year, and taking 50 mgs of predisone for 4 months, when I finally crashed, I spent 6 weeks in a psych ward basically to
contain me until I had been weaned off of the prednisone. (Ironically enough, it was a year ago tomorrow when I was hopitalized.)
So today I started taking 50 mgs of prednisone, and can already feel my heart and pulse rate excelerating. Fortunately, I no longer have the emotional distress, but during this summer I developed edema (45 pounds in a month), and high blood pressure. Both the doctor who prescribed it and the pharmacist who fill it assured me prednisone does not affect either. It only took about a minute and a half on the 'net to find out that wasn't true, (Everyone who already knew that feel free to giggle and roll your eyes a bit) after spending months working on getting the edema/HBP under 'reasonable' control. (At this point, I eat pizza and my eyes go blurry.) In closing I would be curious if any other readers have edema and/or high blood pressure before taking prednisone, and if/how much/in what way your experience has been in mixing the two.
Thank you.

Thank goodness for this site !
I am a 36 male living in Australia and was prescribed Advair(Seretide) 4 weeks ago to treat a asthma induced cough.
About a year ago I was diagnosed with high blood pressure and have scheduled visits to a cardiologist, the next one in a few weeks for an echocardiogram and follow up.
About 2 weeks after starting Advair I started having the following side effects:
Racing heart beart, dizziness & feeling faint, waking up with tingling in my hands at night, inability to sleep at night, anxiety/ nervousness.
Further side effects developed over the last few weeks:
hoarse, need to swallow, extreme anxiety and feelimg panicky.
Initially I put the symptoms down to stress and concern over the impending cardiologist visits.
But the situation worsened to the extent that last week I felt extreme distress at going to work.
I went to my GP who put it down to stress and referred to a pyschologist.
This site has been such a relief - thanks

!!! To kay and every woman who got off Yasmin a few weeks/months ago !!!
It DEFINITELY needs time to get off all the symptoms we got.
After two months off Yasmin I felt exactly the way you do now kay!! I didn't believe then, I would ever get better and was completely in despair!!!
But let me tell you that now, 4 months off Yasmin, EVERYTHING has gotten better, it's not perfect, yet, and I think it will take much more time to get really healthy again, but it WILL!!
I'm so thankful about all these posts here, especially of the women who had gotten off Yasmin months before me and helped me getting through the hard times with pep talking and telling their stories, and every one of them said the same:
It's taking MONTHS to get better, but most women felt VERY MUCH better already at 3 months, and after that it gets better and better every month. And this is how I'm feeling too today!! Wouldn't have believed it a few months ago, but I'm really doing better.
The anxiety and feeling faint etc. come back some days, but all that doesn't last that long as before and it's NOT AT ALL that heavy as it was! I feel like I'm slowly but surely getting back my old life!!
Hair loss, acne, and not having a period over a long term I experienced too. But that all ist just the hormones getting back in balance, maybe a little bit of PCO-Syndrome. But your gyn shouldn't tell you, it's all just because of anxiety. Never heard of anyone who lost his hair only because of anxiety!! Please don't go to this gyn anymore, search for another, better one immediately!!!
Getting a blood test done to see how your hormones are doing is what she should have done and not to tell you such shit!! My doctor did such last week, I think I'm getting the results next week. He told me, that hair loss, weight gain (I'm experiencing, too, I fear...), acne, etc. could be a sign for a little too much male hormones in your blood. After checking that you can take some medicine for that (BUT NO BCP AT ALL, I'll never take such shit again I swear!!!) and it will get better, perhaps it will get better by itself after a few months.
Please give your body time to recover!!
I had been on Yasmin for terrible 5 YEARS!! I can't believe that today, but I was really!! And now it seems, that this pill had done so much harm to me....
To your boyfriend: Everything you need right now is some support during these hard times and not a boyfriend who doesn't want you around anymore and doesn't even believe you!! my husband was at my side everytime and during everything the last 6 months, and it was like hell, what he and me had to go through. But I can say that the only thing that really helped was, to have him by my side, believing me and helping me through everything!! If your boyfriend really loves you he should do the same and in a few months you maybe the old kay21 again!!
Ok, a long story.... I hope it helps some of you, who are still in need of support through the hard times getting off Yasmin!!
All the best to everyone out there!!

I have been very ill for almost three months now. I kept feeling like I was going to pass out at work - the same time everyday. Chest pain - under my left boob (around my heart area). Went to doctor's just before Xmas, he took my blood pressure and rushed me up to the hospital. Had ECG, Chest X-ray, Blood tests, but all of them came back okay?! Have since has an ultrasound, and am booked in for a 48 hour heart monitor in a few weeks. Off my own back, I stopped taking the pill when they couldn't find anything wrong, and I read the side effects, and this was on the 26th december. The feeling faint has almost totally gone (apart from when I start to panic about feeling faint), but I still have this 'stitch/hunger pain' feeling around my heart area everyday. You feel like it's gone, and then the pain happens. I am scared that it's something serious ( have little faith in doctors anyway). I have had two periods since coming off of it, and yes, they may be heavier, but rather that then feeling like you are going to die. I am not exaggerating. At one point over xmas, I told my boyfriend to call an ambulance because of the hot, numbness in my legs. The second yasmin free period I had, was a week or so ago, and I did feel a bit faint during. When I last saw my doctor, I explained what I had done, and he wouldn't commit himself, he just said that it could be Yasmin. I'm getting married in November, but until I know that I haven't got something seriously wrong, it's hard getting excited. If I have permanent damage from this pill, surely I can sue?

I'm in a mess. For 3 months now I've been really ill and it doesn't get really better though I was visiting doctor after doctor (no one found anything wrong).
Anybody here suffering from these terrible side effects under Yasmin (please e-mail or answer me):
- dizziness, feeling dazed
- muscle fatigue
- weakness, fatigue
- nausea
- racing heart
- panic attacks / anxiety
- headaches from time to time
- light stools
- extreme tiredness (pass out tiredness),
could barely wake up after taking a nap
- feeling faint and lightheaded
What I've been going through for the last months ist not really worth to be called "life". I can't go to work and even can't do anything in my house. I'm really desperated and searching for people, who perhaps have gone through the same or similar and feel better today after getting off of this pill.
I quit taking Yasmin two weeks ago but don't feel really much better, yet. How long may it take me to get better??
Please help!! Thanks!!

I took Yasmin for almost a year. The symptoms started after the first month. Feeling faint and lightheaded was really the only symptom I had until the last month I took Yasmin. That is when major things started happening. Almost everyday, my heart felt like it was going to jump straight out of my chest! Then the panic feelings set in. I was extremely scared and thought there was something physically wrong with me. I was nervous everytime I went out somewhere because I was unsure when the heart racing/panic attacks would happen. I felt helpless and on one or two occasions got very close to going to the emergency room. I finally realized that this might all be happening because of my birth contol pill. I never thought that it could have such an effect on my body...and mind! I have been off Yasmin for almost 3 weeks and feel like my old self again. I still have times when I feel faint but the heart and panic attack problems have gone away. Now I'm not sure what to take. I want to be on some form of birth control but Yasmin has tainted my view on all pills. Any suggestions?

I was prescribed Doxycycline for any possible STD I could have contracted when I was raped 2 weeks ago. I have the horrible sunburn feeling, especially on my upper and lower extremites. Severe vaginal itching with a white discharge. Feverish, vomitting, shortness of breath. I am a college student with a very busy athletic schedule, but for the past 2 weeks I haven't been able to even walk a mile without feeling faint. (I normally RUN about 8-10mi/ day) I am debating whether or not to go to the doctor...

I went to the Doctors on July 28th for a bubble that was appearing on my left chek bone. My doctor diagnosed me with an ear and sinus infection. He then gave me 14 days worth of Levaquin 500 mg. This was second time he had given me this drug. 3 weeks prior to this he gave me 6 days worth of Levaquin for the same bubble that appeared on my face and then sent me to a dermatologist. I had been feeling faint, dizzy, hot , cold, heart palpitations, however though I had the flu or heat stroke(this was the first time I wason Levaquin) This last tome I had taken 12 of the 14 pills and noticed my right knee had been bothering me for about a week, funny taste in my mouth (like a filling was leaking), tirede, irritable and then my left shoulder was hurting. I kept thinking I must have bumped on soemthing, well then my right shoulder started hurting,. The left shoulder got so severe I could not even pull my shiort up over my head without breaking into tears. Finally my husband said, I bet its that antibiotic your taking. I recvd samples of the medication so Indid not have the write up they give you at the pharmacy. I thought I was going crazy, the pain was getting hard to tolerate. When I saw my doctor I told him what was going on and he said he had only heard of the Archilles tendon giving some patients problems as a side effect. He had never ehard of the shoulders however he said to go off the medicine and he prescribed me soma (muscle relaxer) did not help and then Vicodin(did not help). I have been off the medicine for 5 days including today, feeling a litlle better both shoulders still hurt especially at night and I tire easily. I think this is poison and should be taken off the market. I told the doctor he needs to go on to the internet and educate himself I was furious.

I am pregnant in my thrid trimidster. My doctor perscribed me these CEPHALEXIN MONOHYDRATE 1tab/x3 a day. BUT: I only took ONE A DAY (I was too scared to take more with baby) and found over the last 3days I have been very EMOTIONALLY ERACTIC, feeling faint and energyless during the day, with a lack of desire to eat. I have swelling from pregnancy in my feet but my arms were the limbs I noticed going numb with my hands blotchy and tingly. I felt nauscious. When I did decide to rest/ sleep I have such a terrible awake feeling and stressed that my eyes are close but I am so very awake.
Thankyou to everyone who posted their symptoms as this helped me!
