I stumbled onto this website just today looking for information on another drug. Little did I know what I was going to find and so happy I did. I have been taking Zocor for nearly 5 yrs. now. My health has taken a spiral downhill. I too, have been experiencing almost every symptom that has been mentioned. Rt. shoulder pain, hand pain, pain and tingling in hands and feet, leg cramps, muscle weakness, numbness, memory loss, itching, fuzzy headed at time, can't concentrate, and trouble breathing. My doctor has told me my cholesterol is just fine the last two times I've had my checkup, but has never suggested I come off it. I guess I will be calling him tomorrow.

Hello everyone and let me say I am SO GLAD I found this site. It is good to read what people who've gotten off the Pred. have to say and that hopefully someday I will maybe be somewhat the person I once was. It's been really hard feeling like I will never be the same again and even forgetting what I was like before! I've been on Pred. since July, started at 40 for a month then had to go up to 60 for like 5-6 weeks during which time I totally had my worst effects. This has been for a pseudo-tumor in the apex of my right eye which causes double-vision due to interfering with the movement of the eye. At my worst I had terrible insomnia, moon face, dowagers hump, extremely swollen legs feet and joints, constant pain, and general paranoia and anger and frustration. I've been decreasing since then and am now down to 5mg/day, but even though the feet/leg swelling is better and the dowagers hump is not as bad, it is still there plus moon face and acne continue, plus psychological effects just seem to get worse and worse even though the dose is down. Another thing which just started is I AM LOSING MY HAIR. It is coming out in clumps every day and my Dr. says I won't be all the way off Pred. till the end of January and I am afraid I won't have any hair at all left by then! (Except the dang hair on my face which is extra thick and dark compared to "before.") I have to say it is just the worst when you are already ill and then the "medicine" you have to take makes you feel like a joke of yourself in such a very public way!!! Anyways, just wanted to add the thing about the hair loss since I can't find it mentioned anywhere. Thanks again for your words of encouragement, looks like I won't be all the way better till next fall but at least that's something to hang onto in having some belief that these things are not permanent!

Hi. I was just told I had low Vitamin D. I have been doing some research on what might cause this and what issues low Vitamin D could cause. I am finding that all acid inhibitors can cause this condition. Many of the side effect all of you have listed along with many others have been reported with use of these type drugs. Some research also shows that softing of the bones or brittle bones can be a side effect after long term use. This is where the Vitamin D comes in. The acid inhibitors keep your stomach from breaking down Vit. D which is distributed in your body as a hormone. Vit. D or lack there of can cause so many deceases that are life threating that it is unreal. I am not an expert by no means, but now when I go back to my doctor for the follow up for the low Vit. D I fill much more informed by doing my homework. I have took Nexium for about 3 years and then Aciphex for about 3 years; so a total of 6 years on the acid inhibitors. During this time I have been diagnosed with clinical depression, degenerative bone decease, and now Low Vit. D. I have had the dry mouth, cold feet, leg cramps, unexplained abdominal pain, cannot control my hunger, anxiety, lumps in my throat, skin rash that comes and goes and is untreatable, heart palpitations, trouble sleeping, pain in my kidneys.....OH how I could go on. In the official PDF file on the side effects of Aciphex there are no studies past one year to substantiate any claims of long term side effects. I have heard in the past 18 months little stories on the TV news about how Nexium can cause bone fractures but it is not played up very big. I have gone to the doctor more then the average person and I have felt as if I am a HUGE hypocondriac. Yesterday was the first time I have been able to breath and I actual stated to my husband that I feel as if suddenly the hypocondriac weight I have been bearing has somewhat been lifted off my shoulders.
PLEASE if you have took any of these types medications and you have these symptoms insist that you have your Vitamin D levels check before it is too late. Continue to persue this avenue even if your doctor is reluctant. AND write the FDA about your experiences. STAND UP FOR YOUR HEALTH!
