Comparative Research Results:
SOURCE: http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/3684731 -- Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences, University of Texas Medical Branch, Galveston 77550
“Results from both monitoring methods consistently indicated at least a 3-fold higher frequency of nausea or vomiting with doxycycline relative to the other antibiotics. Complaints of skin rash also were at least 4 times more frequent with doxycycline, depending on the particular sample.”
More: ******
There are all sorts of verified reported side effects, most of which were on the packing slip that came with my prescription. However, not all side effects are listed on the insert. I’ve come across depression and anxiety listed as side effects on other drug profiles for Doxycycline, so if they are among the symptoms you're experiencing, they very well may be due to the drug. My experience has served as a greaet reminder to research any pharmaceutical I put in my body so that I may make informed decisions.
Like many of you, apart from my current breakout from Doxy, I too experienced stomach upset, and, to a lesser degree, cranial pressure.
Be well. Cheers.

I'm so glad I found this site. I was prescribed doxy for a rash I got in the Dominican that they thought lead to some sort of infection. The first couple days were fine but one night I took the medication before bed and was up all night with the worst chest pains. I have been nervous ever since that when ever I take the pills I'm going to get the same reaction. I have had chest pains the past couple days and I've been really careful with what I take them with and have been making sure I drink at least two bottles of water with each pill. But today I feel so weak. The last week on the medication I've been so tired I want to take naps when I get home from work which is unusual for me. Today my head feels heavy and my leg feels like it's about to twitch but it doesn't. I've felt some tingling in my left leg and my left arm. I thought this was from whatever infection I had since the rash was on my left ankle, but I think it's from the doxy instead. I've also been feeling a dull pain in my thigh every once in a while. I normally have some anxiety but a couple days after I started the doxy I put myself into a panic and spent the entire day at work researching tropical diseases on the internet because I thought I had one from the rash. I've also had some shortness of breath. I have asthma but it feels nothing like that. Also the doxy made my birth control stop working and I started my period. I thought I just had bad cramps but I'm starting to think they were more stomach aches from the doxy. I've had diarrhea also. And I feel so light headed that I'm going to pass out but I don't. I'm definitely calling my doctor today to get a different antibiotic. Thanks everyone for your posts!

I am prone to getting uti's. I usally take cipro with no side effects and goes away with in 2 days. I went to a different dr. this time and she prescribed my bactrim. I cant believe this drug is still on the market. The first day i was fine, the second day i woke up with a major headache. I ignored cause at the time i didn't know it was from this medication. As the days went on the headache was still there and nothing seem to help it. I stared becoming dizzy all the time. On the third or forth day i became violently ill. Fever, chills, throwing up, dizzy, my entire body was sore and could not get rid of this headache. It last for about a week. When i went back to see the doctor. She told me it wasn't from the drug. I KNOW IT WAS!!! It wasn't until my husband did some research on this drug and found out i was having a allergic reaction to the bactrim. I will never take this medication again and believe it should be taken off the market.

I only lasted one week! Im 17 years old and "healthy" according to my doctor. I thought i would try out the Nuvaring bc my best friend loves it. Unfortunately, my experience made me feel the opposite. The first 2 days were fine. On Day 3, i got a mild headache and wasn't that hungry all day. It didn't seem that bad, so I brushed it off and forced myself to eat. Day 4 my headache was much worse and i barely ate anything all day. Again, I brushed it off thinking my body still had to get used to the hormones. Day 5 was a bad one. I was fine half the day. Then around 3 or 4 pm, my severe headache returned. I called the doctor who told me to take some vitamins to see if that would help. I did, but much to my disappointment, the side effects got worse. That same day in addition to my severe headaches, I went on to experience severe mood swings, sudden fever, chills, chest pains, shortness of breath, lack of sex drive, nausea, loss of appetite, tiredness, sore throat (may or may not have been from NR), and spotting (could have been from my period, but i usually stop by this time).
My first of two major concerns was my loss of appetite. I already have a very fast metabolism, so i can't go a long time without eating. I was afraid that I would end up losing weight bc every time i would force myself to eat, i would feel like i was gonna throw up. Also before the Nuvaring, i had never had a severe headache. My headaches got so bad on the Nuvaring that i couldn't move my head without wincing in pain. The headaches were the main reason i finally yanked it out two days later when they didn't go away.
It's only been a day since i took it out, and i feel 95% better (still mild effects, but it takes more than a day for the NR to get out of your system). I don't know what birth control method I'll use now (thinking about just going back to condoms), but it definitely won't be the Nuvaring. I'd rather be a pregnant teenager (Knock on wood) then kill my body with hormonal birth control methods.

My 17 year old son was diagnosed with MRSA after getting an injury on his knee from playing basketball. After the first does he had a loss of appetite, fatigue, nauseous and severe headache. By the third day he got a fever, chills, neck stiffness and a feeling of doom. We went to the ER because his blood had not been cultured and we were afraid of sepsis in the blood. The ER doctor said it was most likely viral and sent him home. The next night he had a fever of 103, sore throat, trouble swallowing, sun burnt look, swollen eyes and cracked swollen lips. The next day we went to the urgent care and they tested him for mono, strep and the flu...(all negative). He felt awful and was so tired and feverish. The next morning he woke up with a severe rash and itching all over his body and his skin looked like it was scalded. His blood culture came back negative for bacteria and his wound has healed. I have taken him off of this drug Bactrim. This is his first day. His rash is better and his fever was down for a little while. It is 101 tonight and he just feel so tired and achy. I know it will take time for this to get out of his system. Meanwhile he is missing school and is getting depressed because he feels like he will never get better. If someone told me that fever and chills were a side effect from this drug I would not have been so worried that he could die of a blood infection. Ask lots of questions or google this site before taking a new drug.

After taking Limbrel for two weeks I came down with fever, body aches and chills. I got better after a day in bed and rest. After a few days I resumed taking my daily medicine which included Limbrel . Again I came down with fever and chills and went to urgent care. I was taken to Banner Hospital in an ambulance. My fever was 102. I had irregular heart beat, chills and had difficulty breathing. After 5 days in the hospital and three units of blood they let me come home. I finally made the connection that Limbrel was causing these episodes after I took Limbrel once again and experienced fever, chills, difficulty breathing, and nausea 9 hours after taking 500mgs of Limbrel.

I was prescribed /TWP DS 800-160 for a urinary infection. I have taken this medication before with no ill effects, but this time my hands itch all the time and I have a red, itchy rash on my back and stomach. I finished the prescription today, ao hope it goes away and so far the UTI I had is better. At least I don't have as much pain, but it required two prescriptions before is worked. I have taken this before with no noticeable effects. Is this serious?

It came on fast but also subsided a good bit within about 12 hours. has anyone else experienced something like this, a full week after a treatment?

Hi! I had mirena after my first child in March. Everything was going great so I thought. I spotted like the doc said I would. The 28 and 29th of July I was in the hospital for fever, chills, severe headaches, back pain, neck pain, & stomach cramps. They did blood work, cultures, X-ray. & ultrasound come to find out it was Mirena the little piece of shit plastic. I called my doctor and told her and she told me it's infected because I have caught a sexual transmitted disease. That would be hard to do seeing that I haven't had sex in 1 YEAR!! I was pissed that she would say that when I told her I haven't and she got rude and said that. I have no reason to lie about it, but when the dad leaves and you have the child I don't have time for nothing but her. My OBGYN doesn't have kids what does she know! I advise no one to get mirena it's not worth it. I am still recovering taking meds. The DOC at the hospital said my body just rejected it!

I was prescribed Bactrim for 10 days. On about the 7th/8th days, I noticed my lymph nodes under my jaw were becoming very painful and swollen. By the next night my lymph nodes continued to become more swollen and painful under my jaw and spread all along under my jaw and in my neck (I looked like I had two chins!). I also then developed a fever of 102, chills, severe headache and ached all over (oh yeah, my heart was racing for days). The fever and chills made me absolutely miserable! I could barely get out of bed or off the couch for almost 4 days. The next morning after fever, chills, headache, I woke up with a red, splotchy, sunburn-like rash from my neck to my ankles, which got itchier and more painful in the next two days. My MD said the rash was a reaction to Bactrim but did not seem to know what the other symptoms were from so ordered blood tests and told me he was "concerned" for me (I was freaking out)! The bloodwork came back negative (thank God). He still didn't seem to put the other symptoms with the rash and Bactrim. I then started to research Bactrim allergies/side effects online and found this website. I found that others had experienced some of the same horrible side effects as I had. It was pretty scary until I realized this was all apparently related to Bactrim, as my MD apparently had no clue. Other's experiences helped validate what I was experiencing so thanks to you all who shared your Bactrim horror stories! I started feeling a little better 48 hours after the last Bactrim dose and at about 72 hours, I pretty much felt back to normal. No more Sulfa for me!

I was taking this drug after having surgery on my foot. After taking this pill twice a day for 5 days, I woke with a high fever, chills, headache, nausea and could not sleep. I continued to take the drug thinking that I just had the flu, my symptoms continued for the next 2 days. My fever broke the morning of my 7th and final day of taking this drug. That evening my fever came back and I broke out in a rash (front/back/arms) and my skin looks like I have a first degree sun burn especially my face and chest and it itches. I had not been out in the sun the entire time of taking this drug.
This will be the last time I I take this drug.

I started taking Lisinopril 6 days ago. About 3 days into it, I felt like I was coming down with something like the flu. I had fever, chills, body aches and an overall feeling of just feeling awful! I developed a sore throat and a cough. I did not associate it with Lisinopril until I got online and read that a serious side effect could be fever, chills and flu like symptoms! Today, I can hardly talk, my throat is so sore. Needless to say, I won't be taking any more Lisinopril!

Had a terrible allergic reaction from it.
It started as cold like symptoms and my throat and nose were terribly inflamed. I thought I had just caught something.
By the third day of this though, still using the Clindamycin not knowing this was the cause, my throat was closed up so much that I had to go to an emergency care clinic to figure out what was happening, and that it was an allergic reaction from the topical. I could barely breathe, and I choked anytime I tried to eat or drink from the severe soreness and pain in my throat. I had a high fever, chills, and green mucus in my nose and running out of my throat from my nose.
Even after discontinuing the topical, I was inflamed and infected for over a week more.
I told my dermatologist about this, yet I looked on the sheet about it afterwards and they still only recorded that I got a "sore throat" from it, and that was why I could not use it again. It was a LOT worse than just a sore throat, it was potentially quite dangerous.

took one dose of avelox at 830pm yesterday and then took one dose of hydrocodone for cough at 1100pm. Woke up 2 hours later with ankle & wrist joint pain, swollen flushed face and upper extremeities, completely bloodshot eyes(no visible whites), fever, chills, neck stiffness, itching on neck, shoulders and arms, general body aches, overall joint stiffness. saw doc today and he said conjunctivitis-prescribed drops, and that it was just the infection I had running it's course. Now my husband does not want me to take this evenings dose. perplexed as I have some underlying connective tissue disease and I am not sure if the joint stuff and redness is just due to being out in the sun yesterday without sunscreen and the aftermath

I began Lamictal in Jan 07. About a week after I began it I noticed excess production of phlegm. I mean crazy phlegm production to the point I needed to spit every few minutes. I also noticed that I began to have difficulty breathing at times. I had no rash.
In February I developed a fever, chills, shortness of breath, severe fatigue and severe leg cramping in both legs. I thought I was having a heart attack it was so bad. I went off the drug and the symptoms subsided however now I am severely fatigued at times and my breathing is still not quite the same as it was prior to the medication.

Currently on Biaxin XL on a 10-day medication for a Pneumonia infection. Experiencing: increased heart rate, sweating all day long with no fever “Chills” and a bad taste in my mouth.
A possible side effect that concerns me is I have been sweating “night and day sweats” all day long with no fever, since I started BIAXIN XL, I asked my Dr. and I was told sweating helps the body to get rid of bacteria but today is my 8 day of sweating, Strange !!!!
I have never had a problem with side effects in the past on any medication!!!
Anyone else experiencing sweating? Your comments will be appreciated!!!! Thanks,

I was prescribed Bactrim for 10 days due to ear/throat/cough issues. After day 2 I had 102 fever, chills, sweats, extreme fatigue, and headache. After day 3/4 I started feeling severe doom and gloom. After day 5 I had insomnia and began having vision problems and felt like my eyes were "loose" in their sockets. I went back in, and saw a different practitioner, and reported my symptoms she thought it was my blood sugar and checked me for diabetes (which it wasn't). She ran more lab work, and chest xrays. Nothing came of it. On day 6 I began feeling a burning and itching sensation on my face, and throughout my head. Nothing helped. During all of this time I could not eat, and was extremely nauseated. I got online, and found all of my symptoms of Bactrim side effects. Needless to say, the bactrim is in the trash. In addition, last year my husband was prescribed bactrim for bronchitis, and ended up in the hospital. At the time they told us he had Scarlet Fever, but when we both went in this week, they stated it was an allergic reaction to Bactrim. He looked like he has a sunburn from head to toe, with a rash. He had 105 fever, and was severely dehydrated. I wish we would have been told that last year. They gave him a zpack this time, saying he was allergic to bactrim. I will never take this medication again, or have my family on it.
