Well, I have fibroid tumors and I also just lost an ovary because it had a large dermoid tumor. My doctor suggested the ring for me because it could help balance the hormones from the fibroid and keep me from ovulating which could contribute to me developing cysts or another dermoid on my one remaining ovary. I have been on the ring and I loved it at first. Before the ring my period was coming every 14 days with horrible symptoms. With the ring my period was coming once a month, with very little cramping. Then other side effects have started, first my hair started thinning, every time I washed my hair I would pull out a bunch. Then I gained almost 8 pounds. Now I have terrible insomnia, moodiness and depression. I seriously have not understood what was wrong with me until I came to this website. I will call my doctor tomorrow.

I had the Mirena device inserted about 3 months ago, because I have some large fibroid tumors, and my bleeding each month is ridiculous. While I've always bled HEAVILY for about 5-7 days, then light for about 3-4 days after that, since the age of 14, it wasn't until last year that I was told about the fibroids. My options were either a hysterectomy or Mirena. I decided to try the Mirena.

The first issue I faced was with the "installation". Apparently, I had an "s" shaped cervix, which made it very difficult to insert the IUC into my uterus. The first doctor spent about 45 minutes trying to maneuver it in place, which from my end felt like someone stabbing me with an ice pick repeatedly. It was horrible. After the 45 minutes of trying, she gave up and said she couldn't get it in. Seeing me on the table sobbing, she asked if I wanted to just forget it, or did I want to bring in another doctor and let him try it. I said I can't have gone through all that for nothing. Bring in another doctor and do what you have to do to get it in. Just get it done. The next doctor came in and repeated another 45 minutes of stabbing my insides, before he finally said he had gotten it in. I had to lay on the table for 30 minutes after that to stop shaking and crying. I would have never done it, had I know it was going to be like that. They said I was just a rare, 1 in 1000 case, that this had happened to. Lucky me.

Well, the bleeding that was supposed to have stopped, instead continued on for the next 3 months. I told the doctor, and she said that was normal, and to give it a little more time. Yesterday, I had horrible cramps all day and extreme lower back pain. I've never had cramps with my periods in my life. The only time I'd ever had any cramping or back pain was when I was in labor with each of my kids. That is what this felt like, and it went on all day. Then, last night, I felt a huge gush of blood start pouring out of me. I ran to the bathroom, and it was like my insides had fallen out. It scared me and I considered going to the hospital, but the bleeding seemed to subside after about 30 minutes. When I got up this morning and took a shower, as I was bathing, I felt the strings protruding out of my body, (which by the way feel like wires more than strings, so now I understand why they asked if the device had bothered my boyfriend). I'm afraid to pull it out, in case my uterus is still attached to it, but I will be calling my doctor this morning to schedule my hysterectomy. So just as I thought, I was in labor, only I gave birth to an IUC instead of a baby. Apparently I'm also the 1 in 1000 person, whose body rejects the device and gets rid of it on its own. Enough already!

I started taking Yasmin at the end of July due to abnormal bleeding of the uterus. At the time that I started the pill, I had been having a period for two weeks so I was relieved when it stopped. However, I have been extremely tired to the point where it is hard for me to keep my eyes open especially right after taking the pill. I have also had extreme tenderness in my breast to the point where I can not sleep on either side of my body. I have always had cramps but this time they lasted throughout my entire period, and they were the worst I have ever experienced.

My symptoms are not as bad as some of the ones you all have posted, but I want tot stop this pill before things get any worse. My doctor said it would also help me with my weight loss, but I'm too exhausted to even take initiative. I called my doctor to make an appointment so I can get my meds changed. Wish me luck.

If you have a history of uterine fibroids I would NOT use the Mirena! I have a history of uterine fibroids. Had Operative Hysteroscopy in Oct. 2006. In June 2007 started having symptoms of another fibroid. (I didn't know that at that time and I know now through researching it on-line.) I had the Mirena inserted in Nov. 2007. Complications in or about Jan. 2008. Large uterine fibroid discovered. Hysterectomy recommended and performed in April 2008. Went to Mirena website and it states WHO SHOULD NOT USE MIRENA. and on the list was...

Have a condition of the uterus that distorts the uterine cavity, such as large fibroid tumors.

My doctor should have never recommended this IUD!

Here is a quick list of my large fibroid symptoms after the IUD was inserted..

brown foul smelling discharge
pressure in the pelvic area
pressure on the bladder which made it hard to urninate
severe constipation
enlarge abdomen
severe pain in the pelvic area during intercourse.
I'm try if these side affects are to graphic but this is what happened after this IUD was inserted.

If you are considering using this IUD and have a history of uterine fibroids I highly recommend having an ultra sound performed. If you already have this IUD and are having similar symptoms insist on having an ultrasound.

My doctor prescribed Loestrin 24 for me even though I have my tubal ligation because I have cyst in my ovaries and fibroid tumors. The birth control was suppose to elliminate the cyst. It did the first month I was on it. I had cyst tissue and bleeding throughout the entire first month. I have been bleeding everyday for two months now. I do take them everyday at the same time but that has not changed anything. I am always fatigue, cant get out of bed. Go to work and as soon as I get home I am in bed again. I feel very depressed and very moody. I cant sleep at night but I cant get out of bed either. I am always hungry and I just developed acne. As several of the other people state my doctor says its unusual and that the birth control has nothing to do with my depression or side effects. I have had so much blood work done and it always comes back normal. I think that the doctors want to see how long if ever the side effects will subside before they say just get off. But like other I was told it takes 3 months to get over the side effects but they have reassured me this pill does not cause depression. After reading all of the comments I am going to stop takng the birth control. Thank you

All I can say is WOW!!!! I started taking Yasmin to lighten my menstrual cycle. I was severely anemic and had heavy cycles due to fibroid tumors. I was not sexually active but my doctor decided to have me start taking BCP's to regulate my cycle. Everything went fine for the first few months. But the last two months I've been feeling depressed and crying and I had no idea depression was a side effect. Also, I am starting my actual flow on day 18 of the pill pack. My past experience with BCP was Ortho Novum and my flow started about 2 days after the last active pill. Now it's before I finish the pills and last for about eight days. This just started during the last two months.

The last two months as well I've been feeling depressed, and crying....which I never do. When I researched yasmin, I didn't see depression as a side effect. If I did, I ignored it because I have taken meds without any problems in the past. I wonder if anyone has had a problem with the "irregular" menstrual cycle.

I AM A 58 YEAR OLD FEMALE WITH THE FOLLOWING MEDICAL PROBLEMS: PARATHYROIDECTOMY, HAITAL HERNIA, GASTROSTITIS, FYBROMYALGIA, RHEUMATOID ARTHRITIS, CORPAL TUNNEL SYNDROME, AND HAVE HAD SURGERIES FOR GALLBLADDER, FIBROID TUMORS, INJECTION TO MY KNEES FOR THE RHEUMATOID ARTHRITIS. AT ONE TIME I WAS PLACED ON ZOCAR FOR CHOLESTEROL, MY LEGS BEGAN TO GIVE AWAY ON ME. I HAVE BEEN TAKING CRESTOR 10MG FOR THE PAST TWO (2) MONTHS AND I CANNOT GET ANY RELIEF FROM SEVERE PAIN ALL OVER MY BODY, AND MUST UTILIZE A CANE TO WALK, GET OUT OF BED, AND CANNOT HARDLY TAKE CARE OF MYSELF. I HAVE HAD TO BE PICKED UP OFF THE FLOOR DUE TO THE SEVERE PAIN IN MY LEGS AND MY BODY, IT SEEMS AS IF I AM LOOSING CONTROL. THIS DID NOT HAPPEN UNTIL I WAS PRESCRIBED TO CRESTOR. I WILL DISCUSS THIS WITH MY PHYSICIAN, BUT UNTIL I SEE HIM AGAIN, I FEEL IT IS BETTER THAT I STOP TAKING THIS MEDICATION. I HAVE NEVER HAD A PAIN THAT NOTHING HELPED ME. THE MOST THAT I CAN DO NOW IS LIE IN BED AND TRY TO TURN FROM SIDE TO SIDE WITH THE ASSISTANCE OF MY FAMILY. THIS IS NOT ME. I WONDER IF THERE IS ANOTHER MEDICATION THAT I CAN TAKE FOR MY CHOLESTEROL SINCE I HAVE HAD THE ZOCAR AND IT WORKED AGAINST ME, AND NOW I FEEL THAT THE CRESTOR IS WORKING AGAINST ME? THANK YOU KINDLY FOR YOU ATTENTION IN READING THIS INFORMATION.

I have been getting the 7.5mg injection once a month since July 2006. I had a uterus the size of a 5 month pregnancy and have several fibroid tumors. My uterus has shrunk (not sure about the fibroids) but I have been having so many side effects I don't know if I would do this again if someone told me about them. Thankfully my last shot was Sept 8th and I will have a hysterectomy in October. I did lose the stomach but regained it with the weight gain!!!! My bones are always aching, constant teeth ache, headaches (mild migraines) every day. Now I have been experiencing dizziness and nauseous. I have been coming home from work the last couple of days because of this. I am so tired all the time - I take a nap during my lunch hour to just get through the day. Oh and the memory loss is so difficult for me. I cannot even remember co-workers names. I can't remember what I was supposed to do when I get across a room. I have to set a timer to remind me that I am cooking dinner!!!! I would definitely not recommend Lupron for any long time use. If my doctor told me that I would have to get another shot - I would say NO!!!!
