This is my 2nd time with Mirena. The first time I had no problems and kept it in for 4 years until it was time for another baby. My baby is now 17months old and I've had Mirena for 3 or 4 months now. I hate it. I'm having severe mood swings, crying fits and depression. I haven't been able to eat well or sleep well. I'm considering having my tubes tied after having this Mirena removed. I'm calling my doctor first thing Monday morning to get this taken out. Does anyone else experience severe mood swings as well?

I was recently prescribed Doxy for Lyme disease. From the time I took my first dose until now, 3 days later, I have had horrible cramping. Similar to menstrual cramps, but worse. I also have a constant headache, though I'm not sure if the headache is caused my the meds or the Lyme disease itself. I have found I absolutely can NOT take this medication on an empty stomach. I drink the recommended amount of water and eat a few crackers when I take it. Seems to take the edge off a bit. I currently take a prescription medication for GERD, but I have been having the worst heartburn ever. Not so sure if I will be able to deal with 18 more days on this medication. I will probably call my doctor first thing Monday morning to see what my options are.

Hello ladies, I've had Mirena for seven months now. I too was told side effect were minimal and that my hormones would be altered from minimally to nothing at all. First couple months cramps were horrible during my period (not so bad now). During ovulation my ovaries hurt like never before and from ovulation to 1st day of my period I have a foul smelling discharge.
As someone who has been treated for depression in the past, I thought the depression and the weight gain was all "me" again. Not to mention the ACNE! I do admit to getting the occasional zit in the past, since Mirena my acne has worsened. Now, I also get acne in my neck and along my hair line.
It's comforting to hear that it hasn't all been in my head and discomforting the Mirena continues to advertise their product without giving recognition to all the true side-effects that all us women are experiencing.
First thing Monday morning, I am making an appointment to have removed!

I am very happy that I found this forum because the extreme indigestion, cravings, and bloated feeling that I have experienced from Yas has been crazy. I have only been on this birth control pill for 1 week, but I have already begun to experience the side affects. I was on Ortho - Tri for 10 years but decided to switch when I developed fibroids. My doctor felt that it may help them remain stable. I am not sure that it is worth it. I am not taking any additional pills and will be calling my doctor first thing Monday morning.
Thanks to all for posting your stories.

I had the mirena inserted back in March of 2008, so therefore I've had it in for approximately 9 months, going on 10. I actually wanted a tubal ligation, but my Dr. said I was too young and being recently divorced, I may want more kids. Well, I'm 37, 38 tomorrow and have 3 and the guy I'm with has 2, I believe that's enough for me! She still refused to do it, so I went ahead with the insertion. When I had it inserted, the pain in my abdomen was so extreme, I couldn't even walk!! It lasted for about a week or more, then things subsided. As the months went on, my boyfriend would say to me, "you're so mean, why are you so uptight, you need to go see a doctor, you're not the person I met a few years ago, what's up with you?" Well, I didn't think anything of it, I was getting my period very heavy for a few months, then it went to just spotty....NOW...I'm not getting it at all and I'm feeling the same way as all of you have felt. My breasts are sore and HUGE, they feel like boulders, like when I was pregnant. I actually took a pregnancy test and yes, it was negative, but I really feel pregnant. The bloatedness in my stomach, the constipation is unreal! Even my friends have said to me, "are you pregnant?" That's definitely a sign that something's going on inside my body. So, here I am, looking up side effects to Mirena AND this is what I found...all of you fine ladies having the same ones as I. That is just CRAZY!!!! I'm calling my doctor first thing Monday morning and scheduling for this damn thing to be removed!!!!! I'm done with the moodiness, the depression, the weight gain, the pain, the constipation.....I'm through with it and I DO NOT recommend any other woman to have or think about getting Mirena inserted before they do a complete search on what the side effects are with this IUD. I'm hoping after I have this removed that my life goes back to normal and my boyfriend, gets happy again, cause all in all, our lives changed when I had this inserted....everything went down the drain, even the sex life....I'll keep you updated after the removal....I hope you all the BEST of luck!

I got the Mirena inserted on October 17, 2008, a few days after my 6 weeks check up. Like many of you, I was uninformed of any side effects. Sure I was given the pamphlet in the doctors office, but I was not prepared for this! I have been bleeding now for 11 straight days. I thought it was supposed to make periods lighter. Well, mine is lighter but it's taking so damn long to go off. I see why they call it birth control - cause you bleed the whole damn time you can't get any to get pregnant! The only visible side effects that I've experienced are mild cramping, decreased sex drive, and the shit just won't go off. Today is a Saturday, so first thing Monday morning, I will be calling the doctors office. I'd rather the shot than to put up with this.

I've been on this for just over a week and am calling my gyno first thing Monday morning. She put me on it due to PCOS and an extremely heavy period that has lasted 4 months. It has since stopped since I've been taking these (three a day for three days, two a day for three days and one every day after) which is great. But the nausea, heart palpitations and EXTREME mood swings aren't worth it. I have been screaming and sobbing for the last two days over nothing which is extremely out of character for me. I have to switch. I was so hopeful for this medication but it's not worth the horrible side effects.

I am so thankful for this website. I have been on Loestrin for about 5 months now. Two months ago I started experiencing many of the symptoms the rest of you have been describing. I started having head aches, insomnia, hot flashes, and then terrible anxiety attacks. I've also been having horrible chest pain that extends out my left arm. At first I thought I was having heart problems, but, like many of you, EKG's and chest x-rays came back normal. The anxiety attacks have gotten so bad that I thought I was going to have to go to the emergency room the other night. When I talked to my doctor about it, we decided its stress and depression, and she prescribed me an anti-depressant. I was supposed to start it today, but I got a wild hair to do some research on Loestrin since its the only other med I take. And lo and behold... Thank goodness I found this before I started the anti-depressants. I plan on calling and getting my BC switched first thing Monday morning. You couldn't shove another Loestrin down my throat. I'm so frustrated, as I'm sure many of you are, that NO ONE told me about this. My doctor did not discuss these extra possible side effects because its a low dose pill. And my general practitioner completely overlooked the fact that it might be the BC pill causing all this. Not that I blame her. I overlooked it too, and it is true, we are our own best advocates. Thank you to all the women who posted on here. Just like many of you, I've been feeling like I'm absolutely crazy lately. With the mood swings and uncontrollable crying, no one understands. I think its ok to say this website might have just saved me several years of being on anti-depressants. Granted, I haven't had any bleeding problems like some women, and I love the three day periods. But I would take a 7 day period over how I feel right now any day. Does anyone have any suggestions of what BC to switch to? And can anyone tell me how long it took for them to get back to normal emotionally? Thank you so much...

After reading these posts, I am glad I didn't change my mind about having the MIUD removed. I have had all sorts of problems since that evil piece of plastic was inserted. I didn't think much of it at first and thought maybe I am just tired because I have my period and cramps alllllll the time. The relationship I was in was bad and thought maybe I was tired and moody because of that. After a couple of months - boyfriend free - things didn't change. I had horrible mood swings, my concentration was shot. My work ethic went down the toliet, I felt like a 10 year old kid with ADD. No energy, back hurt on a regular basis, carpal tunnel came back with a vengence and TMJ (I don't know if that's related but I've never had it before), acne, weight gain, no sex drive, and a constant itching around my neck. I am sure the NP was ready to try to talk me out of it and wait the full 6 months for "side effects" to go away. Well, the last 5 sucked, I really didn't want to deal with this crap any longer, besides with the price of gas, I can't afford the money for the regular buying of feminine products. I am only 6 hours free of this and I am already feeling a little better. I don't have that "pressure" you feel in your belly and a have bit more energy. I am so looking forward to the next few weeks when things start to get back to normal!!! If you have any doubts about this thing....get rid of it. Its really not that bad to get it out, 99 times less painful than getting it inserted!!!

I started taking Levaquin last Monday, today is Saturday the 17th of May. I have a chronic sinus infection which i was given Augmentin that did not work. The Augmentin was taken for 10 days. Then I was told to wait 5 or 6 days to see if the infection would clear up. No it did not. So my doctor gave me 10 days of 750mg of Levaquin. I started taking Levaquin last Monday, today is Saturday the 17th of May. I decided to get back to walking for exercise to loose a little extra weight gained this past winter. I walked about 1 mile. I am used to walking and that is nothing. I usually try to walk 5 to 6 miles each evening. Today, I can hardly move. My hips are sour and my shoulders are killing me. I thought I must be really out of shape, but why are my arms and shoulder hurting. After reading the postings here, I am sure it is the Levaquin. I was fine Monday as far as muscle aches and pains just the sinus infection. Now I can hardly move. I will call my doctor first thing Monday morning. Thanks to you all for your postings and good luck.

Im a 33 yr old stay at home housewifey. Ive been taking zoloft for 1 week and 1 day. It is a miracle drug! I feel so relaxed and nothing in the world bothers me. I however i did get a couple brain pains and couldnt sleep for about 5 days. I was taking zoloft in the afternoon but was told to take it first thing in the morning so it can help you sleep at night. I started taking it the the am and the past 3 days my sleeping has gotten better, i toss and turn a couple times. I do still feel very fatiqued but only in the mornings and then it disapears by like 10 am. Loss of appetite whitch is good because i can now lose the 25 pounds i have gained over the holidays haha! I feel was feeling depression the first few days of taking zoloft but now its gone. My stress level isnt that bad like it was. I do feel like im in a dream but in a good way. I feel like im on a happy cloud. I love taking my happy pill (zoloft) it is helping me ALOT!
I am a quiet person by nature and now i find myself taking up a storm!
I was terrified of the carpenter bees outside whitch we have a ton of. It took me 1/2 hr to get to my car to pick my son up from school just about everyday. And i sat in the car for almost an hour trying to get back in the house. Now i find myself getting into the car with no problem and no fear of them. I actually stood on the porch with the bee in front of my face talking to it haha, they do not sting but are extremly nosey insects!
Sex drive is still good so far.
Zoloft is working wonders with me. Its not for everyone as i read all the experiences from people , BUT ITS WORKING FOR ME!
Zoloft is working wonders!

WOW! This is simply amazing. Every story I read is like someone is writing about my life. I am a single parent of a beautiful 7 yr old. My daughter has been on Singulair for 5 yrs. Like most she has the nightmares, mood swings, anger, endless energy, talks of death and dying. It is a very hard thing to watch your child go through this. It is horrible to have your 7 yr old tell you to just kill them. I couldn't tell you how many nights I have went to bed in tears after a day on this roller coaster of emotions. Like many other she has been LABELED as an ADHD & ODD child. For the past 2 yrs we have been fighting the battle of the diagnosis of ADHD and ODD and her ped is now saying possibly Bi-Polar. We are now trying a 4th med for the SUPPOSED ADHD since none have seemed to help and some have made it even worse. We have had countless appointments with doctors, counselors, and school about her behavior problems. Not to mention the amount of time at work I have missed. Now her ped has suggested a psychiatrist for the possible diagnosis of Bi-Polar. Well to my surprise all of this may be a side effect of a med that has worked so well for her asthma and allergies. I will be calling her specialist first thing Monday morning and see what options we have because she is getting off of Singulair. I am torn here....part of me is so angry that this med could be what has caused all this pain that my daughter and I have went through BUT part of me will be very happy to know that all these LABELS that my daughter has already gotten from her docs and at school will be wrong. It will be a great relief to know that this could all be over soon.

I am so grateful for finding this site! I seriously thought I was losing my mind because of all the things I've been feeling over the past 6 months. Extreme fatigue, moodiness, joint pain (hands, knees), back pain, blurry vision, breast tenderness, NO sex drive, dizziness, nausea and blotchy skin. Since I work in the medical field, I was beginning to think that I had fibromyalgia or rheumatoid arthritis. Since reading all the responses, I'm making an appointment first thing Monday morning to have my Mirena removed.
Thank you ladies!

I was prescribed Guaifen PSE 600-120 for a sinus infection. I took the first tablet at bedtime Friday night. I normally nod off in 2-3 minutes but here I was, 1.5 hours later and I was still wide awake. At 11:30 pm, in an attempt to put this perplexing energy to a productive use, I went downstairs to my office to get a little work done. At 5:30 am I finally got a little sleepy. I then slept for 1.5 hours and couldn't sleep any more. I showered and took another tablet, dreading how tired I was certain I'd be that day and looking forward to a nap. It wasn't long and I felt re-invigorated, like I'd just had the best sleep of my life. I went all day and into the evening, when again I took another tablet at bedtime. Repeat of night #1. Apparently I'm a little slow on the uptake, but I decided that I should investigate this drug for possible side effects. Aha! I experienced the bizarre! dreams when I did doze off, and an emotional plunge (that I never have) too. The upside is that I realized an overnight improvement in my sinus condition, thank goodness that the misery wasn't for naught. Oh, anoher positive side effect is weight loss due to a lack of appetite...LOL All in all, there's got to be a better way to get sinus relief and I'm calling my physician first thing Monday morning.

My 15 month old son was prescribed Omnicef for an ear infection. He's had severe diahrrea... in fact today we've been through 3 outfits, which prompted me to do some research and find this site! He's been a little clingy, but that's normal for him if he's not feeling good.
The diahrrea is what is concerning us. We're calling the doctor first thing Monday morning.

Inherited high cholesterol. Recent blurred vision in left eye that started with a vitreal detachment but led to loss of vision prompted the eye specialist to contact my primary physician. After MRI, etc., determined vascular disease. Immediately place on Zocor 40 mg per day along with low dose aspirin. That was 2 months ago. I now have ankle swelling, heart palpatations, weight gain all in the middle, night sweats, hot flashes and awful dreams. Had a fasting cholesterol test done on Monday. Results - Satisfactory (whatever that may mean) since the doctor did not bother to quote the levels on the small postcard sent to me to give results. I WILL be telephoning his office first thing Monday morning!

Thank the Lord that I found this site.
-- By justquilla | Reply | Private Message meI was up until 2 AM last night searching for answers.
My doctors insist that there is nothing wrong with me. I was starting to think that I was crazy.
I am 33 and had my Mirena put in in May 2008 after having my fourth child. I did a lot of research and talked to a lot of doctors before deciding that this was the right birth control for me. Not once did I run across any of the side effects that I have in all of my previous research.
Since then I have had headaches, nausea, bloating, gas, back pain, fatigue (severe now), moodiness, tingling in my arms, hands, legs and feet, weight gain, and now this strange sensation of fluttering in my belly.
I have taken a dozen pregnancy tests over the last few months. I could swear that I am pregnant. Of course they have all come out negative.
I want to get this out of me NOW. I wish that I could do it myself. The doctor that does the IUD's at my clinic only comes in a few days a month. I wonder how long I am going to have to wait until I can get it removed ? !!!
To be honest I would rather have baby number 5 instead of dealing with all of these side effects any longer. Even my husband agrees.
Thank you all so much for being honest and getting your stories out in the open.
If I hadn't of found this site, I would have kept on trudging along with this dang IUD in and being miserable.
I am all for a lawsuit against Mirena. Women need to be aware of these possible side effects.
I am going to call the clinic first thing Monday morning to setup an appointment for removal. I will try to post as things move forward.
Once again thank you all from the bottom of my heart for being so honest. I wish you all the best of the luck.
