I am in my first month and experienced nausea and migraine headaches with breakthrough bleeding. Noticed a little more sensitivity, crying urges and irritability; but I have slight mood swings anyway. My doctor says this is pretty common the first three months, but should pass after.

I had Mirena put in this past February..I've given birth to 4 children and DO NOT want anymore..Upon consulting my physician I was under the impression that there were RARELY side effects..So I had the MIRENA put in this past February..For the first three months i bled EVERYDAY..I almost had it removed but then bleeding stopped to only spotting a couple days out the month(which I assumed would be my period) For the past couple months i've had a pain in my left lower abdomen and finally went to the doctor..I had an ultrasound and found out I now have ovarian cysts..I thought i'd look on the internet and found that there is a link between ovarian cysts and MIRENA..Also, since I had it put in, i've had at least 10 MAJOR yeast infections(which included a very bad odor & the worst itching) I have NEVER had problems like this before!!!! I've also experienced pains in my knee, thighs and back..I don't know if those are related to the MIRENA, but I NEVER had all these issues before.. I will be discussing other methods of b.c with my doctor AND getting this thing removed ASAP!!!!

I just want to say how happy I found this site. I'm not alone! I thought I was going crazy or that my body was shutting down completely. I had my mirena put in Sept. 2006 and my body has become something I don't even recognize. I am extremely bloated all the time and it hurts every time I eat and use the bathroom. I keep on thinking maybe I have Irritable Bowel Syndrome, but it doesn't make any sense because the symptoms showed up after I had the Mirena put in. I thought it might be food sensitivities so I got tested and have been trying to cut those foods out but it doesn't seem to be helping. I have tried all sorts of natural remedies but it never seems to go away.

I have gained 40 pounds since I the Mirena put in even though I have never have had weight gain problems before, I eat healthy and I am active. I also have a difficult time concentrating and focusing on anything. I also get dizziness, depression, irritability and mood swings. I also have been experiencing a sharp pulling or stinging in my uterus at times as well as joint pain (especially in my hips, knees) and painful intercourse with bleeding afterwards. My hair is also falling out and I have lost my desire for sex.

I've also noticed a drastic decline in my immune system. I have never been as sick as I have been in the last three years of my life. I seem to always be getting sick. For the first three months after the Mirena was inserted I had frequent bouts of yeast infections, bladder infections and still three years later I have these types of infections frequently. Not only this but I seem to catch everything that is going around when before the Mirena I hardly ever got sick.

Finally after reading the posts on this site I can trace all the changes in my body to when I had my Mirena put in. I am so upset that I have been suffering for 3 yrs with these side effects and it has taken until now for me to figure out that the Mirena doesn't just effect your uterus it effects your WHOLE body. I cant believe I trusted the doctor I went to when I had it put in that said that the hormones would only affect my uterus. NEVER, NEVER USE THIS PRODUCT!! It is coming out as soon as I can have it done! Please ladies if you know what it is like to have it removed let me know.

I started taking Yaz since January. I did have to stop taking it, however, when my mother's health insurance dropped me on my 22nd b-day. The first three months I experienced were somewhat positive. I think a lot of it had to do with the expectations I had for this pill to be wonderful and altogether amazing. When I finally got health insurance again in April, I couldn't wait to start taking it again. This time, the experience was much different. My skin, which had started getting worse while I was off the pill, stayed relatively the same. I still get the kind of pimples I used to get when I was wasn't taking it. I started noticing a few months ago that my hair was falling out...!!! I couldn't believe it. It's localized in the frontal region of my hair line. It makes me very self-conscious and worried. In addition to these exterior symptoms, I have noticed I have uncontrollable anxiety. Most of the time, it's hard for me to stop panicking about every minuscule detail of my life. When I'm not excessively anxious, I'm depressed. I don't want to do anything but sleep. I often feel hopeless and worthless. Probably the most disturbing thing that has happened to me during this whole ordeal is two days ago, out of no where, this strange feeling came over me and all I wanted to do was kill myself. I have NEVER had a suicidal thought in my life. It made me sick to my stomach and panicked. I've always been slightly anxious, but I feel like this is exacerbating things to an extreme degree. I'm so glad to read that I'm not the only one.

I've also experienced some of the other symptoms mentioned by other women (inexplicable hunger, etc.) I've also been experiencing chest pain when I run to the point I need to stop running for a moment.

I'm done with Yaz.

I had mirena put in in Oct 08. My symptoms are: dizziness, sweating, nausea, (these symptoms can be mild and brief (seconds); or last a few minutes. I had severe dizziness in May and June of 2009. I also get acne on my shoulders, neck, face, and my T zone is very oily (especially my forehead). I am using good acne products to try to combat this problem, but I continue to have a problem. Some of my acne is like welts and I even have this going on on my scalp. I wrecked my car in December 2008. At that time I was very foggy headed. I blamed the foggy headedness on being stressed and overworked. I am 40 years old. My children are 10 and 13, therefore I know my symptoms are not post pregnancy. Today, I questioned if I wasn't going through early menopause. My doctor said this mirena would be wonderful and that after six months I would not have a period anymore. I have a period every two weeks. My periods are very light, but I still have them every two weeks, and they last for two weeks. I have been wondering if my body will adjust, and if I will eventually get to this heavenly place of now periods and bliss?

Oh Mirena..... how i wanted you to work so badly.... But alas, you have failed me.

I got the Mirena IUD inserted in February of 2009. The insertion was terribly painful, but my doctor had warned of that since I haven't had any children and I would have a smaller uterus than women who had. The pain and nausea caused by the insertion went away within 8-12 hours. For the first three months, it did everything it was supposed to do: normal periods, no weight gain, no (new) mood swings, effective contraception... Beginning on day 1 of the fourth month, things went crazy. I have had 10 periods in 6 months, some lasting about 8 days and starting again 7-8 days later. I had a two day long migraine (I've never had one before this). I have been unbelievably moody, have experienced an extremely decreased sex-drive, bloating, exhaustion, the list goes on.

So when I couldn't take it anymore, I went to the doctor and the strings were no where to be found. Then I went for an ultrasound and sure enough, the Mirena had relocated itself between my cervix and rectum........... Not to mention, there's a 4.5cm cyst on one of my ovaries. The next step is a laparoscopy (procedure where the enter through the belly button) to retrieve the Mirena and check out the cyst.

I thought Mirena was going to be such a dream, but it's turned out to be a nightmare. I never had any adverse side effects from the pill in the 6 years I used it prior to Mirena and now I wish I had never switched. I know people that it's worked for without trouble, but unfortunately I was not that lucky. Like most of you, I had researched more than I felt necessary and read all the negative side effects others experienced, I just hoped that wouldn't happen to me. I'm not telling anyone not to get it, I would just advise that you don't switch to Mirena if you have something that is working properly. It's simply not worth it (financially, physically or emotionally).

There is a class action lawsuit for anyone that took Yaz/Yasmin birth control. I just saw the commercial the other day from an attorney in Denver and it's nationwide. Please call Nolan Law Group - Valerie Romo at 888-630-9340. They are handling it nationwide.

Hi, I just wanted to add that I have had my mirena for 16 months and it's not been easy. For the first three months I bled continuously and was so run down I couldn't fight off a case of strep throat which caused me to develop Graves Disease (overactive Thyroid) that was12 months ago. I then had a 21 day cycle for 4 months and was utterly exhausted. In the last 3 months have had severe bloating and acne, terrible cramps and nausea. I have only gained 4 pounds but can no longer wear any of my trousers it's so bad. I saw my dermatologist today and she confirmed I now have acne, but said it's unrelated to the mirena - I have to start a 4 month course of antibiotics. It's really getting me down, what are you supposed to live with horrendously heavy periods or the terrible side effects of the mirena?

I have been on loestrin for 4 months now. The first three months i did have a lot of spotting (which almost seemed like a regular period) my gyno said this was normal. After the three months the spotting stopped and my regular periods are very light and only last about 3 days. My only side effects are minor mood swings right before my period (which is normal for me anyway) and slight breast tenderness. I haven't gained any weight due to the pill and my skin is about the same as it was before i was on it. I would suggest for those that have been on the pill for less than 3 months to wait and keep taking it until after the 3 months time. I have found it is a lot different after 3 months. It's such a low dose of hormones that once your body has regulated to it, your a totally normal person again.

I have had Mirena for 7 months. The first three months I bleed every single day. The past four months I haven't had a period at all. Not to mention the worst pain that would be comparable to a c-section after a week. I have gained weight but worst of all I got PID ( Pelvic Inflammatory Disease) because of this. I am married and both my husband and I are extremely faithful. Now I am looking at a lot more problems all because of this IUD. This is by far the worst birth control I HAVE EVER BEEN INTRODUCED TO.
I wanted to attempt to have one more child later in the future now because of this I may not be able to have anymore children. I have two beautiful boys one 8months old and one 2 years. I waited four months before seeking care due to the fact that I lost my insurance. That is what hurt me the most. Because I waited so long there may be abscesses that my cause me to have a Hysterectomy which then crushes my dreams of trying for a girl.

I began taking Yasmin when I was 16 to regulate the irregularity and terrible mood swings I was going through. This was in 2004, when Yasmin was very new. I had terrible nausea for the first three months, but after that I was fine. I had clear, healthy skin, and my moods evened out. I was told that it was completely safe and that when I wanted to get off of it to become pregnant there would be no lasting problems. I was great for about two years, and then I began to experience many of the symptoms of pregnancy. I would have pain in my lower abdomen, as well as nausea, mood swings, breast tenderness, and even spotting prior to my period. I consulted with my doctor and she assured me that it was all normal. She explained that my being on birth control was like I was permanently in a state of early pregnancy. She also suspected that I might have ovarian cysts. As a solution to all these problems, she proposed that I try Yaz. So I did for about a year and a half. Then I started experiencing the same symptoms again. I contacted my doctor, and they suggested that the hormones in Yaz were not strong enough to prevent my ovarian cysts from forming. It was at this point that I decided that I should do some investigation of my own. My husband and I decided that I should discontinue all birth control and we would manage my mood problems through diet and behavior modification. I have done this successfully, however, I am just now returning to what I expect is my normal hormone levels. I wanted to get off of birth control because I had found that some women who had used the Depro-Provera shot have taken years to regain fertility, as well as the birth control patch. Because we were planning on having children in the next five years from 2008, we became worried. Since being off birth control (in 2007) it took me until December 2008 to begin having periods that were irregular - meaning that it took me about a year and a half to return to normal cycles. I would not recommend Yaz or Yasmin if you are looking to conceive within 2-3 years. All the side effects listed here are similar to what I experienced, but I think it is up to the individual to decide whether it is worth it. I am now 21 and have acne like I never did when I was a teenager. I think I am now going through adolescence when I should be over all that.

I'm almost done with my third month on the NuvaRing. My first week, I started getting overly emotional and crazy, but that thankfully subsided for the most part. There are moments when I get overemotional but I can keep it in check and stop myself before saying anything out loud or reacting a certain way. I have gotten some bloating the second and into the third month, but it seems to be subsiding lately. Another side effect I have had all three months is breast enlargement and tenderness. It was the worst during the first month and a half, but has been better slowly since then. I had nausea the first two weeks but it seems to be returning now. It's very tolerable, and I'm a person who cannot stand being nauseous, so that's saying something.

Overall, I am fairly pleased with the NuvaRing and am glad I gave it a shot, even though so many people give it awful reviews on here. I say give it a shot because everyone's body is DIFFERENT. What one person hates might be perfect for you. I am going to keep going with the NuvaRing since I like it. It's very convenient and the side effects are very mild for me. You need to wait it out at least the first three months before making a decision.

I am 31 years old and I FINALLY have relief from the pain caused by endo. I have been dealing with this crap for about 14 years. I have only been on it for 1 month. The hot flashes are TERRIBLE!! But I guess it beats the pain. I have been reading some of the other people that have posted their side effects. Some of you are saying that you have been on Lupron for 1 year or even 2 years. My Dr. says you can only use if for 6 months. I guess I should've asked more questions. Any suggestions on what to do about the hot flashes - other than put a fan in my face??

I just wanted to give my two cents about Ovcon. I was on it for 7 years until they switched me to the generic I guess around a year or two ago. The first three months of going on Ovcon I had the normal side effects of weight gain (but only about 5 to 10 pounds) breast tenderness, and anything else I can't remember. But, after three months the weight came off and it has been great ever since. Even when I switched to the generic, Balziva. After almost 9 years I barely get a period and frequently skip them, which makes me nervous but I have never gotten pregnant. I'm just worried what will happen when I stop taking it after so long!

I just started my first pill of loestrin24fe and am very scared from some of the comments i read on this site like worse acne, no sex drive, hair loss, weight gain, etc. My gyno put me on this pill because of my endometriosis. But I have hormonal acne and I really don't want it to get worse.

I am so glad that I found this site and to see that there are other women out there who are having problems with the Mirena. I thought it was just all in my mind! I had the Mirena inserted in February 2008. Started having problems with high BP when pregnant with first baby and when I went back on pill after his birth BP wasn't doing any better. After having my second child, I contemplated about Mirena vs. having tubes tied. My OB said the Mirena was the perfect thing for me and was pretty much like tubal ligation, but without the surgery. I had no problems when Mirena was inserted..just bleeding (seemed like forever for me to stop bleeding) and the normal dizziness. For the first three months, I never knew when my period was going to be, but I just kept remembering what my OB said "your periods will be like nothing after the first three months." My periods did get a little better...however not the "light" or spotting periods. After the first three months, I started noticing that my hair was starting to fall out more but thought it was part of postpartum. I started feeling really tired, skin started to break out, felt depressed, my mind was racing, couldn't sleep, had problems remembering things (simple things), migraines got worse and more frequent than what they used to be before, moody, agitated, had chest pains, nausea in the morning (at one point I thought I was pregnant again!), stomach pains, diarrhea/constipation, kept having vaginal discharge (like when you are pregnant), came down with bacterial vaginosis, UTI's were somewhat common,no sexual desire and my BP was out of control. Seven months after having Mirena inserted, I started having sharp pains near right ovary. I had problems with cysts in right ovary before and had them removed so when the pains started, I had a hunch that most likely it was another cyst. My OB closed her practice so when I went to new OB for annual pap, I mentioned all the things I was experiencing including suspicion of cyst. I told her I had been experiencing all symtoms since Mirena was put in. She told me that she has never heard of the Mirena to cause symptoms like these. Told me that perhaps I was still having effects of postpartum and that my body was trying to get "back to normal" and get used to Mirena. Had all these blood test done and everything came back normal. I did have a cyst on right ovary and was told that it should go away within 2 months. Just had a follow-up ultrasound today (2 months later) and cyst is still there along with other cysts on right AND NOW left ovary. Most of the time, I am in a lot of pain especially on the right side. I was told to just take Motrin for the pain, but that nor heat packs work at all. I am really considering to have the Mirena taken out. I REALLY believe that the Mirena is the cause of my cysts. Is there anyone out there who have gotten cysts while with the Mirena? And has anyone experienced having no problems with cysts after the Mirena was taken out? Since finding out that I have multiple cysts on both sides and knowing that my doctor will probably tell me they will eventually go away on their own (first one is less than 2cm and others are smaller), I don't know if it is even worth keeping the Mirena in. I hate having all these symptoms...I just want to be "normal" again. BUT, IT IS VERY COMFORTING TO KNOW THAT THERE ARE OTHERS WHO ARE OR HAVE EXPERIENCED THE SAME. Now I can tell myself that it is not all in my mind and I am not going crazy!

well i got my mirena in may of 07 the first three months were hell, i bled for 3 months striaght!!! i wanted it removed then and ther but my doctor talked me into keeping it. so know it has been a little over a year and a half and i am finally fed up. I am constantly bloated, eat like im pregnant some time, breaking out like crazy, i am always sleeppy, and a dry vag. & im only 19!!! i once woke up with a sharp pain in my side that felt like really bad gas... the pain lasted 8 hours and i finally went to the ER they could not figure out what was wronge with me.. since then i get the pian in my lower stomach, back and side at least once a week. i hardly get my period ] well that and im not preg. BUT at times i really fell crazy, i feel terible about myself, im depressed and tired and all these things you all have talked about, at one point i really thought i was losing my mind, i had no idea what was wrong with me. and yes as women we so have mood swings but i know something is not right, the occasionall mood swing would be heaven compaired to the constant hell i am in. i am not sure if the mirena is what is causing all these problems but its a very good possiblity. the only way i can be sure is to get it removed and see for myself. so as soon as i can i am going to get it removed. i was never told that the symtoms could be so bad all i got was a pamphlet. WHY were we not told !!! i am going to try and find a different birth controll but i dont want to fall into the same delema.

I am at the end of my 4th year with the Mirena and except for the first three months of on and off cramping I have have a wonderful experience - no weight gain, excellent sex drive. I have been very glad to not worry about pregnancy. However....here it is, I have been having unexplained itching for the last year and my doctor cannot figure it out. I have also been having heavy hair growth on my chin and lip...I am 39 years old. I plan on having it removed to see it the itching ends. I have been grateful to have it because I hate condoms and cannot take the pill. I think each person needs to weight the benefits and side effects. Thanks for all of your honesty :)

First few months on this pill went fine. On the 4th month I started with the spotting. By the time the 5th or 6th month rolled around I would have my period it would stop for a few days and then start again at mid cycle. I was getting two periods per month. This month I started spotting on day 15 and now 9 days later I'm still bleeding. I need to be on some form of birth control pill to control extremely heavy periods. Ok so I don't have the extreme bleeding anymore but I have my period all the time. I could live with spotting but this is full on break through bleeding. My doctor wants to try something new but I feel like a guinea pig. I just wish there was some pill that came with a guarantee. :(

Hey, I totally know what you all mean about the personality changes. I was on NuvaRing for about 6 months. For the first few months the ring was great. I gained a tiny bit of weight (maybe a couple pounds) but nothing crazy. I am slim with a tall frame, so while I was a bit bummed, it wasn't the end of the world. And my boobs got bigger which was cool, lol. I didn't have any physical side effects with the ring. No cramps, my periods stayed pretty much the same, no spotting, no weird infections or irritation. Just normal. but the mental side effects have been so out of control lately that they have been interfering with my relationship. I used to be totally go with the flow, chill, happy go lucky, outgoing, and very confident. In the last few months my self confidence has dropped to zero even though I am doing well at work and life, etc. it's like I think everyone is out to get me, and it has gotten progressively worse. I cry at everything, have mood swings, depression and the paranoia about the boyfriend (even if he is going to study with a male friend I get jealous! Lame!) I was starting to wonder if I had suddenly become bi-polar until I figured out it was the ring! I still had a sex drive, but it was harder to get fully aroused. It's like I wanted to have sex, but it wasn't as good. So I took my ring out today and my boyfriend and I are going to research our options. The Pill does the same things with me. condoms make me a little nervous as to their effectiveness, though we will be using them for now until we find something else. I'm thinking of going with the copper IUD, as there are no hormones in that one but it is still very effective. My main concern with the copper IUD is the physical side effects (irregular bleeding, super heavy periods, etc.) but as I have not experienced any physical side effects with other forms of birth control, i'm hoping it won't be too bad. Ah, the struggles of womanhood!

I was wondering if anyone knows if there is a class action lawsuit against Yasmin.

I started taking Yasmin last October and the first three months I was on it, I was bleeding every day. It was the first time I ever got on a birth control pill. I stayed on the pill for a total of 6 months until one night I suddenly had severe abdominal pain along with nausea. It went bad from worse and I was rushed into emergency room later that day.

My diagnosis was acute pancreatitis due to high level of triglycerides. The doctors ran a series of tests, blood, ultrasound, CAT scan, and X-ray, etc. Their conclusion was Yasmin caused the dramatic increase of my triglycerides, and ultimately caused my acute pancreatitis.

My triglycerides level was below 200 before I started taking Yasmin and by May this year when I was diagnosed with acute pancreatitis, my triglycerides was over 4,300!

After spending 3 weeks in hospital for pain control and being off food and water for a total of 2 weeks, I was able to go home and get on with my life. My doctor told me I should never take any form of birth control pills nor any kind of hormone. I stopped taking Yasmin since the day I was admitted.

If anyone knows of a lawsuit or a lawyer that is working on a case against Yasmin, please let me know.

Have been on Simvastatin since May 2007. Have experienced debilitating headaches every day for the first three months, neck and shoulder pain, lower back pain, tiredness to the point of having to stop what I am doing and go to bed and am wondering now whether any other female taking Simvastatin has experienced a burning sensation when passing very hot water and extremely uncomfortable and painful sex.

Ive been on the nuvaring for about four months and for three of those months everything was fine. my doctor told me that i could leave it in for 3 weeks and have a period for a week or three weeks and change to a new ring. well being that most women hate periods, i decided not to have one four four months. But now i am having this weird brown discharge(no smell) and i have had reoccurring yeast infections (white discharge, itching, burning). this skin around my vagina was raw for a week or so. gross i know. can anybody tell me whats up with this. i have been overly emotional because i thought something was wrong with me. is it?

Hi, I have a Mirena IUD and am currently trying to find someone else who has the problem I've been having. I have always had a moderate period that lasts 3 days. Always, since the day it started, and it has always been as regular as a clock. After having this IUD inserted (which by the way the OBGYN had no interest in making a follow up appointment to check on it at any time) every time I had sex for the first three months it felt like the thing was stabbing me in the ovaries every time my husband...well you get the picture. Once that went away(hopefully it hasn't caused me to become infertile) Now I am getting my period for a week to a week and a half every two weeks! I have seen a million ppl on the internet saying no period after they had their IUD, so why am i having more of them for a longer amount of time?????
