Flat soda symptoms and conditions

I have been on Topamax about 3 years. I was getting as many as 3 migraines a week before starting it and had tried everything else. My dose was 300 mg daily. I had the numbness in fingers and toes with cold weather, and extreme fatigue at first, even the flat soda taste. All of those effects have tapered although my normal weight is 135, I can't seem to get over 120. Over the summer I developed a new side effect, extreme itching that despite the effectiveness of the meds after 6 mos of dealing with I can't handle. I started tapering down over the summer and took my last dose two days ago. I have since gained 4 pounds and can't wait to stop itching like crazy. All other side effects I could work through but it was like I was itcing ALL OVER all at once and nothing helps not even benadryl. After 3 yrs I'm done despite the fear of migraines returning I'm going to try acupuncture and ptay my migraines don't return...I'm DONE. It works but that was one side effect that was too unbearable.

I started taking Topamax 2 days ago and I have already noticed side effects..such as the flat soda...numbness in my arms and face at night...BUT the worst part are the morbid thoughts at night ( I take only 25 mg at night) I have the most bizarre dreams and I wake up feeling like I havent slept for days. I am taking it due to severe migraines which result in seizures. I am horrified after reading some of the posts here. I am wondering if anyone started out with any of these side effects and then as their body became accustomed to the medication did they pass?

Hey I've been on Topamax for a week and a half now. Thats not too long. I have been lucky. I've experienced the tingling extremities, some bowel issues, definate exuastion and the worst, FLAT SODA!!! But nothing to extreme, or should I say moderate versions of all these but I experienced something I hadn't seen posted here several days ago. I was having intercourse with my wife and when I actually had my orgasm I went completely numb. In fact the only reason I knew it happened at all was the obvious evidence. I was sober at the time and it hasn't happened since but it felt like the same tingling in my extremities only from head to toe. It was highly dissappointing but I thought might lighten someones mood to hear it told.

I've only been on a few days and already experienced the flat soda effect... that's the whole reason for soda.. I like the fizz... not cool.

My doctor warned me about the tingling, it's a sign of low potassium, so she said to start eating more bananas... so no tingling yet.
Also consume a lot of water to reduce risk of kidney stones...

So far I've only experienced the flat soda that I know of..

Hi. I was on Topamax for about a year for severe pain in my foot. I had nerve pain on the front outside part of my foot so bad I could not walk. I am also a sufferer of chronic migrains and have been hospitalized several times a year for them. I stopped having migrains - didn't realize until now that it was probably the Topamax. I didn't know why they stopped and didn't know that Topamax was used for that. I took it for just over a year. 100 mg a day at bedtime. I lost 40 lbs, the pain in my foot went away, and I haven't had a severe migrain since. I have been off of it for abou 1 1/2 years now, but want to go back on it because of the weight loss and some other nerve pain I am having with my ciatic (sp?) nerve. I did experience tingling in my leg and toes and soda was flat. I didn't know what the leg tingling was from until I read this blog. I can deal with soda being flat because I really don't need the sugar!! I love Topamax. It worked GREAT for me!! The pros far outweigh the cons for me. But everyone is different!!
