I saw my family doctor on May 16th for a new onset UTI. I hadn't had one of these in about 8 years but I knew how bad they could get if you didn't get them treated right away. I did the over the counter URISTAT for 2 days until I got an appointment. After doing the UA dipstick, they confirmed my UTI because of the high leukocytes and gave me sample packets of LEVAQUIN 500 mg. b.i.d. for 5 days. I went home thinking, "Hey, this will be easy and I will feel great in a few days." I WAS NEVER SO WRONG ABOUT SOMETHING IN MY WHOLE LIFE!!!! I took my first dose that evening and went to bed. I woke up the next morning with a headache so bad that I almost passed out when I lifted my head off the pillow. The UTI went away after a few days, but the migraine stayed for over 2 weeks. The left side of my neck felt like I had been hit from behind with a baseball bat and my scalp became so sore from the pain that I couldn't even use a blow dryer on my hair. I made 2 more trips back to the doctor complaining of the horrible migraine headaches, light sensitivity, neck pain and joint pain. He put me on IMITREX, PROPANOLOL, APAP, and FLEXERIL to control the migraines. I MAXED OUT THE DAILY DOSAGE ON THESE MEDS EVERY DAY WITH NO RELIEF! I went back to the doctor again and he decided to run some lab tests. The next day, my headache had started to get better but I noticed a lump under my left armpit (large pea size) and that I had significant joint pain in my right middle and index finger. My middle finger would hardly bend in the mornings when I got up and the stiffness in my neck was still there. Later that day on my way out for a mini vacation with my family, my doctor called to tell me that my ANA had come back positive and he wanted to send me to a Rheumatologist to rule out things like LUPUS, RA, etc. Needless to say, I was totally freaked out for the remainder of my trip until I went back to the doctor to review my ANA Titer. My titer was high at 1:160, but he keeps telling me not to worry because this happens all of the time and an ANA and high titer is not definitive. I want to also note that one of my friends and my husband have also had very similar experiences. She was convinced by the physicians that she had Lymphoma because of her ANA and titer and my husband was certain that he had RA. Both are negative!
I am still concerned about all of this even though I am feeling better and it may be that I have permanent side effects from this. I was a totally healthy person and there was nothing going on besides a UTI until the LEVAQUIN was introduced. It has been almost a month since I took this drug and the things I have been reading online are horrible. I am sure that I will never take one of these antibiotics again. My advice to anyone else is to READ< READ> READ! There are some excellent websites out there and of coures the blogs are great for information from other patients. A good site for information about positive ANA's is:
http://www.rheumatology.org/public/factsheets/fana.asp
Also, read up on LEVAQUIN and the other FLUOROQUINOLONES. I did not know that these are the drugs that will be used to treat people in the event of a biological war. It's pretty scary....

Have chronic back pain and have been on the the 100 mg patch for about 5-6 years and it's great. No side effect. Except now after getting into a car accident-not my fault-the courts are trying to take my license permanently-or
while I am on the the patches. Everything else makes me sick. Don't know what I am going to do. Live alone with cat and dog-outside of town-need physical therapy 3 times a week.....

Took a few tablets over a few days. Slept excessively. Extremely Mental Grogginess for a few weeks. Went Back to the Doctor & Explained the negative effects. He said, "That feeling of stupidity you had, some people don't come out of it. We don't prescribe it anymore." I feel it took about 6 months to regain sharp memory & mental abilities. I was prescribed Flexeril for cronic muscle ache & spasms. It did ease my back spasms & aches, but not worth it due to the side effects.

Hello all,
I have been reading a few pages of posts and it has me thinking. I started taking Flexeril which is either a muscle relaxant or an anti-inflammatory at the same time I started taking Yasmin. I have blamed the Flexeril for my dizziness, especially when I lie down in bed, when I see it is very likely a result of the Yasmin. I quit taking the Flexeril about 1 week after I started taking it because I got so dizzy I almost fell down the stairs holding my sleeping 1 year-old. The reason I started reading the post is I have a weird side-effect I think. I was looking to see if anyone else has experienced it, and I haven't seen it yet...
I started having really tender breasts, like when I would have to express milk while nursing. So, I thought I would try to just squeeze them, and when I did, some milk appeared, or at least what looks like milk (I didn't do a taste test). Has anyone else experienced this?

lortab, hydrocodone, and vicodin are all derrivited from the same drug, and are essentually the same. differences mainly concern allergic reactions. to my knowledge, stomache pains are a side effect of too much of any of these drugs, and they are all highly addictive

I have been taking Ultracet for over a year now..as needed for back pain from a car accident and significant re-injury of my back. I have sciatica in my laft leg with significant pain and some numbness if I sit too long in one position as well as moderate to severe back pain if I walk or stand up too long.
I will say from the start I have a very high tolerance for drugs. Doses of narcotic pain killers (darvocet, vicodin etc) thta knock most people out will just make me feel slightly "high".
I take Ultracet as needed for pain and Flexeril for muscle spasms in my back. I do not ever go over 3 pills in one day.
I have not noticed any of the reactions people mention here. I can go several days without taking Ultracet with no problems. Perhaps it is that I do days without taking it that has saved me from becoming addicted to it.
I have heard of side effects such as upset stomach, nausea and my doctor warned me to let her know if I felt anxiety or other emotional incidents (mood swings, depression, feeling "high" etc). I have had none of those effects that I can specifically attribute to the ultracet.
After asking my physician about whether ultracet is a narcotic in the same category as darvocet, percocent etc. ( I asked because of the similarity in name). She said it was not classified as a narcotic as it is a synthetic substance and supposedly does not have the addictive ingredient found in the natural opiates. Supposedly is the key word here. She also told me that people who are susceptible to addictions (i.e. family history of alcohol or drug abuse etc) may become addicted to it. She said that the threshold for addiction seems to be when taking more than 3 pills a day.
The ultracet works well for controling the pain in my legs and back. I am fortunate to be able to take a dose of ultracet and rest for 20 minutes until it kicks in most times. I have had no problems with driving or dizzines since I started taking it.

WOW, has this site been a life saver!! I was put on Yasmin 3 months ago, because I had a 4 inch cyst on my ovary. I also was told I was peri-menopausal because of the hot flashes. I thought all of these symtoms I was having was from the menopause....until reading all of these testimonials. I immediately went off of Yasmin one week ago. I to had horrible side effects:
- Frequent spotting
- Extreme mood swings
- Irritability
- Low self-esteem
- Headaches/Migraines
- Heart palpitations
- Lightheadedness
- Difficulty concentrating
- Insomnia
- Fatigue
- Severe bloating and weight gain (even with diet and exercise!!)
- On edge all the time
- Breast pain
- Toe pain (as if I had broken them)
- NO libido
- Rash/itchy armpit
I had been suffering severe hot flashes, night sweats, insomnia, severely dry skin and uneven tone AND pigmentation
- Terrible mood swings and PMS, much worse than before yasmin, and depression
- dry skin over ALL of my body
- restless sleep
- forgetfulness
- cellulite looks worse
- enlarging of pores on face
My periods used to be 2 or 3 days and very light... with Yasmin they are were very clotty with severe cramping that would wake me from my sleep. I used to have headaches the first 2 days of my periods before....now they are worse and lasting a week!! They have prescribed me Flexeril and 800 mg of Ibuprofin, which doesn't do much for the headaches either.
And to think I was blaming this all on Menopause!!! I will do an update after I am off of Yasmin for a few weeks.
Has anyone else had soooo many symtoms??
Thank you to ALL of you for sharing your experiences!!

I found out a few days ago that I have Fibromyalgia, a pain disease that has no cure and so far I have tried four different drugs to ease the pain a little , most days I can't walk or stand up straight. Last friday my dr prescribed ultracet two pills every six hours. I take them promptly each day. I have had no side effects but I have also not had any relief from my pain. I haven't noticed any difference or change in almost a week. I also take four flexeril a day and Mirapex at night , so far I haven't had any relief at all. I tried the hydrocodone but it knocked me out and I couldn't work or any thing but sleep. If any one has an idea I would like it if you could write back on this site and I will ask my dr. Thanx

I thought I had sinuses for years..got test for allergies and was founded to be allergic to nothing! Despite having at least 3 infections a year and on my 3rd nose spray, zyrtec, nyquil at night..ect..because I was contantly congested and had drainage & headaches..3-4 infections a year.. She ordered a cat scan and was told that my sinuses had spurs but was clear; my septum was severely deviated and I needed a ENT to have surgery to correct it...The ENT wanted to do major surgery which included a plastic surgeon... so I went for a second opinion to another ENT that was well known who told me I had rebound headaches..and referred me to a neurologist..my goal was to get off all the meds (nose sprays, nettie pot, antihistamines..nyquil..ect..) ..he was a dinosaur and was convinced that although I had a severe deviated septum~he didnt want to do surgery but wanted me to stop all meds I was on and to go to his neurologist that he liked *(another dinosaur) who put me on Topamax..50mg in the morning and 50 mg at night..I had panic attacks right away so he added 20 mg of klonopin at night to help with that and flexeril to help me relax...he hinted at me going to a pysch doctor which pissed me off right as if I was psychosomatic or something... and stiffled me a few times when I tried to talk to him about my drainage and congestion~he wanted to hear none of that because he already made his mind up what I had and "sinuses" didn't jive with his impression that I had migraines.
All of the sudden within days I really did have migraines..they just hit me! HARD...I had to call him and tell him I was in excruciating pain on the right side...he called in Imitrex inj. and they worked within 5 min. and my Topamax went from 100 mg total > 250 mg/day! I had at least 6 shots since and the side effects of the Topamax have profoundly changed my personality...I have no word recall..like being stoned in the 70's but worse because I have a special needs child and I need to engage her and am like a zombie! I have ALL the same sx that are mentioned but notice one that isnt noted which is my tongue is raw as well as my throat...all the way down into my stomach...I am having to take zantac for acid indigestion~it is like my insides are raw!
-- By shellrtx | Reply | (1) replies | Private Message meI am also having extreme constipation...I lost weight in the first 2 mos. where I couldn't eat nothing..but now I am eating cause it's there but it is not leaving me even when I take multiply doses of my old standby... I am drinking tons of water..at least 64 oz a day but it is not helping. My eyes are burning at times...I need my reading glasses all the time now. Some days my heart is beating out of my chest for no reason..at rest..I just feel ill like something is not right at all! I don't go nowhere & have become a hermit. My headaches are gone but I feel I am just a shell of a person and want to get off...I am slowly weaning off by doing it 25mg at a time for one week at a time....then another 25mg another week......I know I will have migraines but I will just bite the bullet and suffer through it till I am off this poison....I have some injections left..MY main goal was to be off meds and these side effects are horrible! Once I am completely off I am going to a good ENT that can do the surgery to fix my sinuses so that I can hopefully be drug free as I intended. I too wasn't told of these side effects at all. So much time & $$$$ wasted! I think if I stay on this too much longer it will truly do long term harm!
