Just want to survey everyone and ask for responses for the following 3 questions:
1. how long did you keep your Mirena and if you no longer have it, why did you have it removed?
2. how many of you had your thyroid checked? who's came back abnormal? what were the levels?
(I'm a medical student doing research on this one since I believe the levonorgestrel affects our thyroid hormone. My TSH was elevated to 5.2 which is considered "subclinical HYPOthyroidism". This was mid cycle when my natural progesterone AND synthetic progestin were cumulatively high. When I had it rechecked 6 weeks later (around my period when any natural progesterone level is gone) it was normalized at 1.5. So I think that the P+P screws up our thyroid and can throw us into a high TSH and "hypothyroid state". The opposite effect may be true during menstruation and we can become HYPERthyroid for a few days... hence the really bad anxiety?!)
3. where is everyone from? perhaps we can have support group meetings?

I was on Topamax for migraine a few years ago and had to go off of it because my insurance changed. I was crushed!! I was on a lowww dose- only 25mg. morning and night. It helped soooo much- and really- the only side effect was some weight loss and the tingly fingers and maybe weird taste in foods.Also- and maybe it's because I;m relieved of constant headaches- I have MORE energy and even better breathing, seemingly!! ( just now had a problem spelling 'taste'- and have read where that is a side effect but think for me it's just being 51 and a tad flaky with menopause. :) ) I'm back on it now- 25 mg. morning and night- and am very happy. The several times a week migraines ( the real thing) are gone- as are the constant floaters I get in front of my vision, and the things like vertigo and photo-phobia that I have constantly even when I'm not in a full-blown migraine. I just don't get the fatigue, headaches, etc. other people do- in fact, almost nothing by way of side effects. That is no doubt due to the low dose and also because everyone's system is different. I am lucky to have found the one med which nails my migraines! I've read all the posts and am definitely upping my water intake, however- thanks for that head's-up! It never hurts! I would say that anyone with intractable migraine should at least try it- although at a low dose. My doc is very cautious and started at the lowest possible end luckily for me.If you're one of the fortunate people who toleates this med it definitely works beautifully to prevent the majority of migraines in chronic sufferers! It IS expensive, though-even in it's generic form- and I really hope to keep affording it!!
Blessings- A.

I just recently had the mirena iud inserted. Oct 30 2008. 3 months after having my first child under a normal vaginal delivery. When I have asked my doctor regarding any side affects he stated that women may have heavy bleeding the first 6 months/ and that after those 6 months that your periods will actually disappear.
The first week that I had the mirena in, I began bleeding almost instantly. Blood clots the size of my closed fist came out of my body from the uterine wall I suppose. I went through a super tampon/ and a pad in an hour and a half. ( I am one of those women who normally use a super tampon maybe once in a while/ normally a reg. size does the job) This bleeding has not stopped since the mirena was inserted.
Looking at a computer screen is part of my daily routine at work. It seems as though my eyes feel blurry through out the day as I am working. Towards the end of the day I can barely stand to look at it. This has never happened to me before. It is almost like I want to turn all lights off and sit in the dark, with no noise(headaches).
Of course sex drive is at the all time low. Who is in the mood to go for it when you are bleeding with a terrible headache?
The first few nights I had a horrible time falling asleep and staying asleep.
Well... at this point I have had headaches... all day for a week now. My head hurts like someone is pounding it against a wall. I have not had a headache in years. My stomach has been upset/ feeling as though I may have to throw up.
I am afraid that I may start seeing the other symptoms that ladies have talked about.
When you had the symptoms did they all happen at once or one at a time over different time periods?

WOW, I am so happy to find this site. I am a 56 yr old female. I too am on Toprol. I was on 75 mg 2 x's a day for HPB and mitral valve prolapse pain. Then yesterday the Dr. increased my dose to 100 mg 2x's a day .Today my ankles and feet blew up like balloons. I have been having profuse sweating and was cold and clammy for the past year and no Dr could tell me why!! NO sex drive , depression, sleep apnea, severe insomnia, brain fog, short term memory issues, moody, irritable, my husband has threatened to leave me. NO appetite!! Floaters in my eyes started a few months ago, I have so many symptoms that I have read in all your posts. No quality of life for the past year. I have felt like I was losing my mind, gained 35 lbs in past 2 years without changing my eating habits. I gained the weight after I had lost 50 lbs. Been on Toprol about 2 1/2 years ( I think ) Every symptom I have experienced I have read in your posts!! I have type 2 diabetes and am on glucophage, I also take 10 other scripts. I have fibromyalgia and chronic fatigue, RSD in my left arm, muscle pain and joint pain. Pain in my right upper qaudrant. Nausea/ some vomiting, NO ENERGY, Loss of interest in most of life. So now after reading all your posts I have to ask myself, are all my symptoms linked to the Toprol and not syndromes or illnesses? I am calling my doctor in the morning and getting off this med!! They will just have to put me on something else!!!
So how do I post to receive replies?

I just Finally got my IUD out today YAY I have had a ton of S/E's & of course 2 diff docs both deny it But I don't care I just wanted it out doc said the most common S/E is a headache R U Serious??!! I never had headaches only other more scary stuff, floaters in my vision for the last 15 months, muscle aches & joint pain no energy no sex drive anxiety the list goes on & on I posted awhile back
anyways the removal wasn't that bad at all not compared to the placement of it but I did have some cramping & within 1 hr I was bleeding all over the place!! so now I'll probably be bleeding for another 6 months just like after they put it in But it's all worth it If I feel better & feel like I did b4 I had this stupid thing put in me
GL to e/o & I'm so glad I found this place I probably would of never put everything together if it wasn't for all of u sharing your stories
I'll come back in a few weeks & update on how I'm feeling I'm hoping the floaters will be the 1st thing to go away b/c they are really annoying at times

I am 61. I was recently prescribed levaquin for an intestinal infection. Began having rapid heart beat, trembling, shortness of breath, floaters in my eyes, itching, thick tongue, lips tingling, irritability, sweating, feeling of brain fog. Felt like I was having a panic attack. Stopped taking medicine after 6th day. Now I can hardly move my head. My left shoulder and neck are hurting very badly -- feels like muscle spasms. After reading these posts about levaquin, I'm sure that is the levaquin has caused these problems.

I'm 50 and was having a hard time with perimenopause and really heavy periods. This was the end of my 2nd month on Yaz. I had lots of headaches and tracer like lights (floaters) but everything else was okay, maybe a little depressed. But suddenly this week (with 5 pills left before the white ones) I started having uncontrollable panic attacks. I went to the dr. and came home with Valium (talked myself out of going on Zoloft). Then things got so bad on Saturday I went to the dr. and got some Zoloft. While at the pharmacy I asked about anxiety and panic attacks having something to do with Yaz. She said yes. I came home and found this site. Zoloft is still in the bottle. I threw the rest of the Yaz away. I like the weight loss, shorter period, less PMS, but I can't function having panic attacks. Guess I'll just go cold turkey on perimenopause - it can't last that much longer (yeah, right! ;-))

I was prescribed Avelox for pneumonia, which I had a severe reaction to. I was driving in my car with my kids and suddenly didn't know where I was. I was so confused and pulled the car over and vomited. I rushed home and was launched into a full-fledged panic attack. I was then given Levaquin and I was fine with it other than some mild malaise and a little dizziness for the 7 days of 750mg, but my symptoms just came back soon after and I developed a sinus infection and was put back on the Levaquin. I took one 250mg pill yesterday and had the same thing happen, severe fatigue, weakness and numbness in my hands and arms, dizziness, confusion, panic attacks, blurred vision and severe diarrhea. I felt floaty and out of it for the rest of the day and night. I woke up this morning and I feel much better, other than some left over anxiety about taking the prescription. THE GOOD NEWS is that my symptoms are gone now that the antibiotic has been metabolized and secreted from my body. I did see some floaters in the shower today, but I believe they were because I strained my eyes when looking to far to the right. I drank 2 glasses of wine to help with the increased heart rate and insomnia that the drug caused--worked well!! I would never, ever take this antibiotic again.

I feel nauseous have a sickly headache, feel tires and I have developed very bad floaters in my right eye!
I am taking the drugs as a precaution as I have had pains in my head surrounding my cochlear implant site. I have had my cochlear implant eleven years with no problems but I have developed very bad stabbing pains in my head. I am hoping that the Amoxicillin will clear the pains albeit the nasty side effects.

After 2 months taking Zarator (the name of Lipitor in Portugal) I got blurred vision, with floaters drifting in my eyes.My eyes became dry and I started seeing flashing lights. My eye doctor told me that it was due to ageeing. As I am 54 I could not believe that I was ageeing so fast. Yesterday, In the internet I came across with all these people claiming to have experienced similar symptoms. two days ago I stopped with Zarator and seems that my right is a bit better. For me ZARATOR NEVER MORE!

I went back to my PCP today. Yes the one that gave me the Levaquin. He was very nice and even agreed it was the Levaquin I took back in December. He said that these types of side effects we all are describing are RARE (I would have kicked him for all of us, but my legs hurt to bad).
But he did acknowledge pain and my symptoms (listed in my December post) and prescribed me Prednisone for my ligaments and Lyrica for my nerve pain. He also said it was going to be a long haul. I know that some of you are dying to telling why these meds are bad too, but I am going to try it because I haven't really been out of my bed for two weeks.
I just wanted to let you all know, that maybe some doctors are starting to listen... and that we should keep speaking out and warning others about the HIGH risk of our side effects.

I haave been on lisinopril for 3.5 yrs. I have mostly OK with it. But I do have the dry cough-I haven't slept the whole night in all that time. I also have the numbness in my pinky--but a Orthopeadic Dr said I have Cubital tunnel syndrome which is why it does that. I am dizzy once in a while.
Bur lately I have vibrating "floaters" in my eyes if I do anything strenous.

I was prescribed Levaquin 500 for possibility of a low grade infection (101 temp). Within two days I started feeling anxious, unable to sleep, sweating, dizziness, severe pain in both knees and elbows - could not walk. Upset stomachnausea even though I followed instructions to drink a lot of water. Then flashing began in my eyes. I stopped taking the pills after the third day. The other symptoms began to stop. However the flashing in my eyes continued only to be replaced with big black floaters which, I understand, are permanent.
I had NOT received any warnings from the doctor or the pharmacist other than to "take with a lot of water".

I was given Aveloz with Predisone for sinuitis...I was having no symtoms but a MRI Then 2 CT's showed bad infections in sinus.
Day 2 3 hours after taking I saw gold sparks fly off the back of my friends dog has he came out a doggie door. I said oh wow your dog just got shocked. She was like no she didn't. I got in my car to go home it was dark and my left eye began to rapidly flash white light. I drove one 1/2 mile and my visison was blurred with numerous floaters. I called my insurance company and they told me to get to the ER. The er Doctor told me not a side effect as I suspected but my retina had detached. HE said go home and lay flat and go directly to Eye, Ears, Throat Doctor expecting to have laser eye sugery in the am.
I did go to the Eye specialist and he said I was fortunate that just the gel wall collasped in the back of my eye. He said it is not the drugs...aging happens to everyone. I just knew better.
I took the meds a different time yesterday and had a similar worsening experience.
Today I was on the phone and all of a sudden was in a deep brain fog. Words would not come out of my mouth. I knew I was trying to talk but it was like my brain was detached and was not letting the words come to me.
I am suppose to take this 15 days, refill and take 15 more days. Come back for an MRI ..then take 15 more days.
I am not sure what to do now.
I called manufacturer of drug and they took report and said "we will report to FDA." Also took my information and doctors phone, fax and address and name.

Has anyone of you noticed a change in vision after going off Yasmin?
I am very much short sighted and since November last year (I got off Yasmin July 06), my sight has gone down. Also I have annoying floaters in my eyes and my vision is not great. I had my eyes checked and the eye doctor told me I had a slightly degenerated retina in the right eye... Before Yasmin and during Yasmin, I had no such problems. Also I had a new prescription for glasses and I had to take them back to the opticians because I can not stand them (headaches, eye strain...). Has anybody experienced this also?

Maybe it was just a one-in-a-million thing, but I will never, ever touch this medication again. My 2-year-old son tolerates other meds very well with no problems but when we gave him this, he freaked out like he were on an acid trip at a Grateful Dead show. I checked and double-checked the dosage and gave him 2.5 mL (he weighs about 36 pounds), which was the correct amount. He grabbed at invisible floaters, beat wildly at his arms and legs because "there were bugs all over him," and screamed and pointed at things he imagined were trying to get him. I cannot recommend this drug to any young child based on my experience. I hope that his reaction was just a rare aberration but regardless, we'll never touch the stuff again.

I have been taking Lisinopril since Jan 07. Since I started taking the medication I have noticed blurred vision along with floaters. My eyes feel as if they have sand paper in them constantly. My stomach is bloated and hurts. My joints and muscles ache constantly. I have had several episodes of confusion. TIRED!, I am tired every day, having to take daily naps. I sleep 8-10 hours at night and wake up exausted! I feel unmotivated because I am tired most of the time. I also have the constant tickle in my throat along with a cough. I woke up the other night coughing so much I left the room so not to disturb my husband.
I am glad I found this site. I might have continued to attribute these side effects to getting older, not quite over the cold I had 3 weeks ago., eyes are bothering me because I work on the computer all day. I never had these symptoms until I began to use the Lisinopril.

ITCHING !!! OH MY !!! My husband went thru a severe bout with itching EVERYWHERE ! His sister was also on a related drug to Lisinopril and she was having itching problems too.
As for floaters and cobwebs and cloudy vision... I have ALL of those symptoms. I can't see at all to drive at twilight or when rain is on the windshield. I had a Dr appt this past Monday and had to cancel it because it was raining and I had no other way to get to the Dr.
I've been off the meds now for about 6 weeks and my strength is returning, my hair is shiny and feels like it has body again and I'm waiting patiently for my sight to get better. The acid reflux problem has improved too.
My girlfriend keeps telling me to see an eye doctor but I just saw one a bit over a year ago. I thought the new glasses were part of the problem as they are transition lenses and now I know it's just because my glasses are of the proper strength it's the Lisinopril that has messed me up.
God Bless,
Becca

I am so glad I found this website. I have had a lot of questions answered about my husband's health issues. My husband is a relatively healthy 32 year old and has been on 5mg Lisnopril for almost 5 years for slightly high BP and has had a lot of problems since he has started taking it. The most severe problem he has experienced lately is vision loss in his eye. He started complaining in late November of Floaters and Grainy Vision in his left eye. This will last about a week and then subside only to return a few days later. The vision problems will come on suddenly and get so bad that he can't see or read out of his left eye. He sees lines, floaters, cobwebs, colors, and grainy spots. My husband went to his family doctor when it first started and was told not to worry about it.
Last week I took him to the eye doctor, who could not even see in his eye because there was so many floaters. The opthamologist immediately sent us to a retina specialist who thought he had a detached or torn retina. Well, we have been to the specialist twice and he can't find anything that would be causing this problem. We've had 3 doctors and a pharmacist tell us that Lisinopril would not cause this vision problem. Since I have found this site and read posts from others who have had the same vision problems, I am convinced that this is causing his problems.
Some other side effects he has had is memory loss, confusion, aches and pains, weight gain, headaches, fatigue and dizziness. Thank goodness he has not had the awful coughing that countless others have experienced.
Needless to say he is not taking this medicine anymore. If anyone else has had similar vision problems please contact me.

Has anyone experienced blurry vision that won't go away?
I had what I thought were "floaters", and it just keeps getting worse!
This didn't happen when I was on 10 mg, I'm only starting to realize that it's been consistent since my dose was changed to 20 mg.
Anyone else out there seeing clouds like me?

Hello! I am still here. I took Yasmin for ONLY TWO MONTHS. I have been recovering off of all hormones FOR FOURTEEN MONTHS. I had an emergency trip to the doctor for severe vomiting, anxiety, dizziness, weakness...just a month ago right after my period. Also, I have headaches with terrible vision problems (feels like severe eye strain or I'm going cross eyed) in the second week of my cycle (ovulation). Other than that, I am doing much better. I am going to get my eyes checked AGAIN Monday (still have some floaters and weak eyes). I am not taking ANY medication (except Advil for the headache...which didn't help a bit, and a multivitamin), but I am doing light exercise, eating very good, and trying to cut out stress. Today, however, has been wonderful. The good days are finally coming a little more than a year off that horrible pill. My general doctor told me it would take a full year to get my system back in order, my hospital pharmacist also told me it took a full year. I have a friend who went a year and a half before she even started her period, and my mom found a website claiming it took a year and a half for anyone's system to completely return to normal.......and I only took two months of that pill......... Hope this offers some hope. You are NOT alone. I felt like I was going to die a month ago, but I am doing very well today. Who knows what tomorrow may bring. It will get better. Be patient. I'm praying for you!

I have been on Prednisone 40mg x 5 days and am now reducing to 30mg x 5 days followed by a 10mg reduction q 5 days until I am off the med. I have read your blogs and my heart goes out to you all.
Has anyone lost their sense of taste? I can only taste salty things, but just the salt only. I have the nausea, stomach pains, depression, mood swings, inability to focus and a tremendous amount of 'floaters' in my eyes. In general, I am extremely drug sensitive, but the Prednisone has brought me to a place I don't want to be.
I welcome your input on the sense of taste issue. Thanks in advance for your comments.
