I have hypothyroid. Have been taking Synthroid for about a year, 0.075MG a day. Had my levels checked 3 times since on the meds and still have never gotten to normal, but a lot closer. I have gained 20 pounds that I can't get rid of, which for me, is crazy. I have never had a problem dropping weight, and for the past month or so, I have started losing my hair. Not just losing it, but the texture and everything has changed. No matter what I do it looks dry and flat, and even when I condition it and also use a leave in conditioner, it still knots up and tangles. I have NEVER had a problem with tangles. It's coming out in handfuls. Im not taking any other meds, so I imagine it has to be the Synthroid. My problem is..What else can I take? I mean, I have Hypothyroid, so I can,t just leave it untreated, But I have no wish to be fat and bald either. Please...anyone know of others meds without these side effects?

I'm reading all the side effects people are writing and I don't have it that bad I could only get headaches and tiredness when I eat too much sugar and white flour, but I've always been like that, I bled in the beginning but since september only had my period once after the initial bleeding. Initially I didn't gain weight until summer came and I binged- i gained ten pounds lost 5 pounds from dieting and excersizing but i think at this point the other five pounds are from muscles as i look just as thin as before and i have been excersizing a lot, I do however find it impossible to lose below this point, I can eat between 1200-1500 calories a day plus excersize and nothing happens, it's exasperating but I guess I can't complain. I actually think the mirena helped me chemically as far as no more post partum blues and I am more sexually aroused than before, which is great cuz before I had no interest.

My husband suffered for a full year with constant burping--not reflux, not heartburn, just air, like colic. He was so bloated that it was painful for him to sit. He went from doctor to doctor, and even to a GI who suspected Celiac's. He also had a feeling that his throat was constricted, and once went to the emergency room, afraid that it might close up. The doctors found nothing.

He has a severe dust allergy (it causes hives, no respiratory symptoms) that was diagnosed last year, at which point he was prescribed Zyrtec and Singulair. He mentioned the prescriptions to every doctor he saw (this is in New York, not the boondocks, btw), and every one said it can't be the Zyrtec or the Singulair. It should be noted that we eat all natural foods, no white flour, no white sugar, so we knew there were no artificial additives that could be causing his reaction. My husband even tried cutting out dairy, then wheat, then all gluten, for over a month.

Finally, about five weeks ago, he told a cousin about his mysterious symptoms, and she asked if he was taking Zyrtec. He said yes, and she said he should try going off it because she'd had a similar problem with that drug. He did, and within four days, the burping and bloating stopped.

Because his itching was uncontrollable with Singulair alone, he decided to try taking one Zyrtec, thinking it might not hurt. Within 24 hours, the burping and throat swelling was back intensely.

The doctor switched him to Allegra. He took one and it helped him. He took a second pill two days later, and the burping reaction started. The allergist confirmed that people who have this "rare" reaction to Zyrtec may also have that reaction to Allegra.

If you are suffering from these symptoms, go off the Zyrtec as soon as you can. I wish someone had told us so that my husband would have saved himself a year of suffering.

Wow, I must be one of the very few lucky people out there that had a good, no awesome experience with Lupron. After graduating from High School in 2005, I moved on to college. It was here that I started gaining weight, having blurred vision, moody, bad periods, intense cramping, and just general unhappiness. I just wanted to be normal. After gaining 100 pounds in 2 years, yeah thats right, I went from a #1 Volleyball player, Im tall, who weighed in at 150 pounds to a 250 pound unhappy woman, I decided that I needed help, I wouldn't eat for days, and I would gain 10 pounds. SO, off I went to the doctor. Well, after 43 blood tests, 9 xrays, 5 ct scans, 2 ultra sounds, 10 trips to the ER and so many bills I was in debt, I had an answer. Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome. My only question, Thats IT?? Well now, a surgery could cure that right?? Ha, so I had surgery and that is where they found Endometriosis lining my insides, wonderful, how much more lucky could I get? haha. That is when my doctor said I could try Lupron. She explained side affect, and gave me info, and said it was up to me. At this point I just wanted to finish college, so I went for it. Best decision I have ever made!! I finished my first 6 month treatment in October 2007, and have been pain free for over a year now, a few hot flashed and headaches were worth it for me, I have never felt better. Now Im married and trying for baby no 1, and I have never been happier. Goes to show the miracle of how each individual is different, and you never know whats going to happen in the future.

I know this is not a new effect, but I feel so out of control with hunger. I have never had a weight problem but I can not stop eating. I was on a regimen of high dose 60mg tapering over 6mths and gained 20 pounds due to radiation pneumonitis. Unfortunately, I now have a rare pneumonia from lung injury (radiation) and am back on 40mg for at least 6mths with gradual tapering. My question....am I going to gain another 20 lbs? This cant be all water because I am really eating and feel so bloated. Not to mention the other side effects mentioned in other posts.

Also, the pain after coming off in my muscles was very intense so it must be very common. I feel 80 and I am 48.

I have had diarrhoea now for nearly (8) eight weeks.
I am currently trying to get off of a Prednisone prescription that was given to me September 14th, 2007, for Costochondritis/fibromyalgia/ Chest wall pain.

I have been very sick from withdrawals and side effects since Sept 14, 2007. The Doctor I was with at the time was trying to get me off of the Prednisone too fast and making me even sicker! I.E. cutting me one particular week during the end of October from 20 mgs to 10 mgs a day! I have since refused to go to that Doctor because he made me sick.

I stuck with that dosage at the time because the Doctor told me to; ( plus an older Brother who would call me daily and scream at me long distance to be sure I was following 'Doctors orders'!) but I was so 'out-of-it' as a result, that I had items and personal effects stolen from me by the very 'care-givers' I had hired to take care of me and help me around the house? They told me later that I had 'instructed' them to give all my stuff either to them or to the Goodwill.

The entire second floor of my house was cleaned out by the time I started feeling a bit better and the so-called 'Caregivers' abruptly quit and moved out of town! Plus! My paid-for 2002 T-Bird was sold. I vaguely remember my Brother 'ordering' me to sell it. He was jealous and didn't want me to have it. He nearly had my house offered up for sale as well...but I got better just in time. I no longer want to speak to my Brother.

At any rate, I am down to 1.5 mgs Prednisone a day and my head has 'cleared up' substantially; also I still suffer from 'Brain Fog' and other terrible side effects of trying to getting off this poisonous drug.

I am now also suffering from a brand 'new disease' because of this Prednisone.
Doctor #### has diagnosed me with "Leaky Gut Syndrome".

I cannot eat 'normally' anymore since November. All simple crabs, sugars, breads, pastas, eggs, soy, potatoes, creamy salad dressings, potatoes salad, tuna salad, egg salad...a whole plethora of food items I can no longer consume!!! I have a freezer full of food I can't touch! The Holidays were a nightmare! I couldn't eat any of the foods or desserts! No ice cream! After going to one friend's house for Thanksgiving and being unable to eat a morsel, I stopped going anywhere. The torture was too much for me to bear!

I can't eat Chinese, Italian, Mexican, pizza~ any ethnic foods anymore!

P-nut butter, cereals, mushrooms, crackers, meatloaf, etc. Too many to list!! No more sodas, vitamin water, not even gator-aide can I drink. No more teas, coffee, chai-tea, etc. etc. Especially! No 'junk-food' at the usual places. No chocolates, candies, gum, or yogurts, cheese or dairy of any kind. No shellfish either.

If I do 'cheat' and eat the forbidden food (like toast) anyway, it creates more withdrawals and severe 'brain-fog'! I cannot 'cheat' because this body 'knows somehow and I have to 'pay' for it later by means of brain-fog and terrible withdrawals for days on end.

I can't go anywhere and "Do lunch" or "Dinner" with anyone. This simple social pleasure has been stripped away from me! I dwell in a personal living hell here. Isolated from people and social dinner occasions. Depressing.

BUT ! I can drink all the water I want! GRRRR!!!!!! >:oP

...and eat dry or fresh-steamed vegetables, baked chicken and turkey (No gravies) Or baked fish/ Salmon. Or Steak all by itself...but no steak sauce; no katsup either. I can eat salad. No crutons or cherry tomatoes.(withdrawals) Italian-type dressing (vinegar and oil) This is all I have been eating for weeks now and I am sick of eating the same stuff night and day. So I haven't been bothering to even eat anymore because it is sickening to me to eat the same stuff day after day. At least this cuts down on the amount of diaoreaahh I have now.

I have lost weight and feel physically very bad.

Hi Sherry...
I feel your pain...I recently talked with a nutrisionist who helped me lose 15 pounds. I was doing what it sounds like you are...not eating at all and trying to work out as much as I could. She told me that not eating was the worst thing you could do. Your body goes into survival mode and stores ALL the fat you do intake because you aren't feeding it! If you actually eat enough GOOD foods to be full, your body will sense that things are OK and start shedding the pounds instead of stock pilling them for later. The other suggestion she had, which worked well for me, was drink only ICE WATER with every meal. It shrinks the pores in your stomach that absorb fat (because they are so cold) and therefore, you should retain less fat. Besides, it helps you to feel full as well. WATER, WATER, WATER...I know it sounds silly when you are retaining it to begin with, but it's the same effect as not eating, the more water you drink, the less you retain. This really did work for me and I still use it as part of my daily life, I've only gained 4 pounds back after stopping this pill about 7 weeks ago and I'm praying that I can keep it at that, we'll see.
Protien bars (low carb ones with at least 20 grams of protien) for breakfast, help to speed up your metabolism, also. The other thing for me was bread products or anything with much flour in it (pasta especially). I cut them out almost totally. Made me feel so much better when they were gone! It was a VERY hard thing to give up though, I'm a bread freak!
I really hope that some of this helps. Keep your chin up....
Cristy

Kay, I completely understand your exhaustion over the time it takes to feel better after getting off Yasmin, but you need to TRUST that although you dont feel it, everyday is a day closer to being the 'old Kay'. It has now been 4 months for me and I am only really feeling like my old self now, you need to take one day at a time. By the sounds of it, you are currently either ovulating or pre-menstrual...you always feel worse around these times. I understand that knowing you will get better soon isnt always enough to make you feel better right now. The biggest thing is to TALK to your friends and family. They need to know exactly how you're feeling. Get them to read posts on this website. I'd also recommend you make an appointment to see a psychologist. This is not because anything is wrong with you, but as a result of taking Yasmin you are suffering side effects that you currently have no control over. I have been seeing a psychologist for the first time in my life over this whole experience and it has helped enormously. He reminded me that I need to stop being so hard on myself and that I am making gains....its' always good to have other people's views on our progress as it's often difficult for us to see.

I'd also recommend you cut out any caffiene, white sugar, white flour etc as it only makes you feel more on edge.

I found meditation helpful as it helped calm me down.

You need to know that you're not alone. All Yasmin Survivors out there are sharing your pain, and we all have brighter times ahead!!!
