My experience with the NuvaRing thus far has been disastrous. I was prepared to put up with the ruined underwear from unexpected menstruation but today whilst sobbing uncontrollably on the freeway with my husband gasping at me helplessly was enough. He actually was the one who suggested that it may be the ring and after reading the accounts of other women I am glad it is not me (and so is he). I actually just read some accounts to him and he was looking at me with a "told you so" look on his face. I have been in remission from clinical depression for a year and a half now, and these feelings I am having whilst on the ring are those of depression. I was seriously scared that possibly I had slipped back into a depressive state, but only a few weeks ago I was happy with my life and safe and stable. I am also ANGRY at everything. Again, something I was really concerned about- that is totally not the person I am. I am also having periods of dizziness and loss of consciousness which I thought was dehydration, but I could not seem to fix it. I am sure this is an effective form of birth control for some women, but I would just like to let you all know that constant vaginal bleeding, depression and thoughts of no self worth, anger, dizziness and pain are not worth it. Not in my experience.

I'm so glad I found this! I thought I was going mad for a while there. Background: I'm a 34 yr old female. Diagnosed w/ asthma at 12, but they suspect I had it before that. Used only Ventolin for a long time. Five years ago, right around the time I had my second child, my symptoms (and allergies) seemed to get much worse. We moved around that time, to a house with a HUGE Chinese elm in the backyard (which I now know I'm allergic to) and right next to a main freeway. Around this time, Dr. prescribed Advair 250/50 when he realized I was using Ventolin up to 6 & 7 times/ day. The first year, I actually felt so much better (I could BREATHE!!) that I think I wouldn't have noticed any side affects. Year two I had MAJOR hair thinning. Dr said "age and hormones". Following 3 years on it: Almost constant nasal congestion (despite always being on a decongestant), sinus infection, tonsil infections, laryngitis, TWO bouts of pneumonia in 3 years. Around the year mark on it, I did experience the depression and anxiety, however, I had had the "baby blues" with my first child and just thought it was a more severe version of that. Now, I feel CONSTANTLY "run down" and almost always have some low-grade infection (yeast, UTI, sinus, bronchitis...etc.), am always hoarse and am just waiting for another round of pneumonia. I also get dizzy A LOT. I am in the second day of a cold turkey quit and am looking for alternative diet/exercise therapies. Good Luck to everyone!

I have been on Topamax for four years. 25 mg in the am and 25 mg in the pm. I have experienced the weight loss and the migraines have completely gone away along with my wittiness and ability to remember why I am in the bathroom with my pants around my ankles. I have passed up my exit on the highway on my way home several times.... not really sure why or where I think I was going........ I have found myself on a freeway and had to search the signs to figure out which direction I was traveling and then realized I was going to moms.........don't even remember getting in the car but have stuff with me that I was bringing her. I have woken up in the middle of the night in a panic and always have the word right on the tip of my tongue. I feel like I have alzheimers. I am 34. I started out having severe ocular migraines when I was 17 (I don't have head pain) and ended them at 30 after spending weeks in bed, days in ERs and hours heaving into the toilet........ hours, straight, not even able to take a complete breath. I wouldn't even have the strength to hold my head up anymore and I would just lay on my side an heave in my bed, until I would pass out. The MRI showed brain damage and necrosis (dead brain tissue) of my brain from my migraines. I was originally diagnosed with strokes. Imitrex would raise my blood pressure so high the MD's and RNs would hold me out of fear I was going to stroke out. My life just stopped..... I couldn't even move.... ever, I couldn't look out a window, listen to a radio, watch T.V, have a conversation, smell food, perfume......... anything without getting sick. Topamax stopped it all. And yes, I got stupid with the meds....... I lost my train of thought, but I can go outside. I lost some weight, but I can eat, I have lost some, hair but I can work...............I feel like I have more of a life now than I did before. Anytime you introduce a drug to your body you are going to have effects........there are trade offs. If you had what I had, you will be willing to have the trade off. I had gotten to the point that I would have been better off dead, because I wasn't living. My migraines started off manageable and progressively got worse over time. I have to admit, I have tried to come off of the medication... who wants to be tethered to meds all of there life? But when the migraines came back, I quickly went back on the meds.....Drink plenty of water, stay off other stimulants, don't smoke!!!! titrate your doses and then don't miss them.

My husband is 50 and has been on Lisinopril for about 2 years after experiencing a stroke going down the freeway! He has had a few of these symptoms, but most of all we were wondering if anybody has stopped taking it cold turkey? And if so, what side effects did you have. We had a mix up at the pharmacy and he went without it for about 2 weeks and he has had insomnia, nausea, light headedness, he's shaky, palps, etc. All symptoms seem to be intensified. We were thinking tonight that maybe these symptoms were
occurring because he missed 2 weeks of doses with no tapering of the medicine.
What do you all think? Any input would be appreciated. We're at a loss. We haven't called the doctor yet. Like I said.....it just occurred to us.
Thank you,
N.

I had the Mirena inserted on 06/19/08, a day before I was scheduled for my second back surgery. Yea, I maybe should've waited but it took me 3 months just to get an appt with my gyne so I decided to keep it. It hurt like hell. I didn't think much of it because it was birth control (just implanted). Well, the next day I had surgery and everything was fine. All the doctors new that I did have the procedure prior to surgery and said it would not interfere. Anyhow, I was sent home and ended up back in the hospital 3 days later from a horrible migraine. I had never had a migraine in my life and it very unlikely to start with symptoms at the age of 30. They thought it was a possible reaction to anesthesia but the more I think about it...I don't think so. All test were negative but I had a migraine for about 3 days. I was very depressed and in extreme amount of pain (from headache, not the back-- that part was actually a breeze compared to last time). I started with severe anxiety attacks to were I was (and still am) afraid to drive on the freeway. I have a feeling of uncontrol/ fuzzy- like I'm not really driving, just floating along the freeway. My skin is horrible. I have acne breakouts like crazy and am actually getting a "rash/small bumps" on the upper part of arms/shoulders. It's weird cause my friend has this same symptom and she has had hers for about 2 years. Anyhow, I have weight gain, some hair loss but have noticed more so hair growing on my face/chin. Headaches are still there (sharp, stabbing to forehead) but they come in spurts. I'm very irritable and my husband thinks I don't love him anymore because I don't want to have sex. (Whats the use of being on birth control if you don't want to have sex?) My breast are very tender to touch and I am very tired and dizzy at times. I have scheduled an appt for mid Dec to have it removed. I will update the status of symtoms. From what I can tell by reading all the blogs....its definitely this IUD.

I have MS and was put on this medication for an episode I was having, severe vertigo. The veritgo would hit while driving on the freeway or at any other time of the day or night; therefore, the doctor felt the best action would be to take massive doses of Prednisone in hopes it would stop the vertigo. With all the side-effects I had from taking this drug it may have been better dealing with the vertigo!

I was NOT informed to check my blood sugars, I am a Type-2 diabetic, but was instructed to eat every 4 hours with each dose I took. I ended up in the emergency room with blood sugars over 600. My vision was effected to the point I didn't need my prescription lenses to see. I had insomnia. Couldn't stop drinking water, nor going to the bathroom (not sure if that was blood suger related, the drug, or both). I was delusional (and not normally so). I had the acid/reflux so bad that it was difficult to swallow food every 4 hours which lead to early tappering off the drug. I developed acne over my face and chest. I ached everywhere and felt like I would die.

The positive experiences I got from my Prednisone was the bond I developed through sharing my side-effects with another person who had also had bad experiences with the drug. I could see the leaves on the trees yards away without my glasses. My sight returned to "normal" about 2 weeks to a month after the treatment ended. The vertigo stopped and the loss of the use in my right hand and arm (MS related) came back 100%. I appreciate the life I have been given and am greatful for my health.

Hi guys, just wanted to give an update. I'm on my fourth day not being off Yasmin. I was feeling better, however this morning I woke up with pins and needles in my face, arm and leg. Then while I was taking a shower I got really dizzy and almost fell over. I was driving and, I had some sort of an anxiety attack and had to pull my car over. I almost went home, but after I got off the freeway I started to feel better so I got back on. I'm still really dizzy, I had a banana hoping that would help me out. Anyone had these things happen to them, either while on Yasmin or post? Thanks, it's kinda freaking me out.

My MD gave me Wellbutrin samples to try to combat my depression resulting from legal woes back in Feb 2004. I took the med for about 2 days with no side effects. But on the 3rd day, I had a shot of whiskey - which I was not aware alcohol was a no-no when you're on these drugs, so I suffered a near seizure while driving on the freeway. My bp went up to almost 200/130 and I had to take Toprol after that episode. The things I remember the most while I was on Wellbutrin was that my adrenaline seemed to always be on overdrive, dry mouth, dizziness, high alertness and irritability.

I have been taking Lisinopril for many years and just about 6 months ago the dosage was doubled and was getting along pretty well until the pharmacy switched the mfg'er from Teva USA to IVAX - then the trouble began - my chest was tight like I was about to have a heart attack, enery level next to nothing, sleepy all the time, my lips were bright red with sores and burning - I felt and looked like a royal wreck. My husband didn't get those symptoms - he was dizzy after this change and felt like he would pass out - he drives otr so wasn't too exited to pass out while driving down the freeway -
called the pharmacy and they were so surprised because nobody ever has complained about any differences - they talked me into keeping my prescription but I am going to change this week to the Teva mfger and see how long it takes to get back to semi-normal.
