Started taking Levaquin Friday afternoon for a bad UTI. That night I had trouble sleeping. The next day I woke up with horrible pain in my mid and lower back and in the backs and sides of my legs. My right ankle was also in a lot of pain. I took 4 doses. By now I am completely miserable. My stomach hurts and I'm bloated and quite nauseated. The pain in my back and legs feel much like labor pains. Today the back of my knees and down my calves hurt. It's hard to explain the agitation feeling I'm having. I feel miserable. I looked up side effects today and realized it's the Levaquin. Good grief, why don't they tell people this?? I cannot wait for these side-effects to be gone.

They are switching me to yet another anti-biotic which I start tomorrow with much apprehension! But, my cultures came back very high and I will need to continue on something for another week.

I was injected with Kenalog in Mid July 2008 to reduce the swelling in my tonsils (I had a bad case of tonsillitis). I was asked if I have allergic reactions to steroid injections, and to my knowledge, I don't. So I was given a shot in my upper right buttock on Thursday (mid July). On the following Friday I was no better (still mid July). I was still not able to swallow my own spit, let alone eat or drink, so I went back Friday morning. I got another shot in the same location of Kelanog. I was not told of side effects; I was told the swelling would go down in my tonsils/throat. Again, no results.

That Friday afternoon I was admitted into the hospital for care. A weekend of fluids and other drugs got the infection out. I stayed infection free for two weeks. It hurt for a week afterwards on my right buttock, but no bruising. I healed up, had my tonsillectomy (sp), and healed fine after that.

I noticed nothing wrong with my upper right buttock until about two weeks ago. I am in the process of getting a large rib/hip tattoo piece finished, and about two weeks ago I noticed a spot that looked like a small bruise a few inches from my tattoo in the spot where I was administered the Kenalog shots. I didn't put it together then. Two weeks later (This past Thursday, September 25, 2008), my tattoo artist was about to work on me and said, "You have a dent in your butt, what happened?" I had no idea it was even a dent. The "bruise" like mark now looked like a burn scar, red, and smooth and deep--dented.

The red mark is still dented and the same color. It's about the size of an inch from one side to the other. However, each day since it has been dented, the dented area has expanded fairly rapidly. The dent is now not only in that red area (the injection site), but also along my hip/upper thigh. It's getting deeper and traveling outside the red area, and the red area is the same color. This discoloration just started. I heard this is called Tissue Atrophy due to a misadministered Kenalog injection.

Does this dent go away or stop "spreading" by itself? How will I know if it will stop spreading; is it different for everyone? How can it be properly diagnosed as well? Can a biopsy be done to prove that this it what it is? Does anyone have any insight?

Also, it's been 2 1/2 months before I saw any of these effects...why does it seem like my effects came later than others? Is that possible?

Thanks.

I have two experiences with Prednisone to share: I am a 52 year old woman, married, no kids. One year ago I came down with a serious case of shingles on the top and inside of my left eyelid. What started out as a bump that looked like a pimple or a bite on a Friday afternoon (and I don't have acne), spread across and under my eyelid by Mon, morning, up into my eyebrow and down the side of my nose. My eye felt like there was glass in it every time I blinked. I got to the doctor on Mon, the dermatologist on Tues and the opthamologist on Wed. All confirmed shingles. I have never felt anything to excruciating in my life! The dermatologist prescribed a 3-week descending dose of Pred starting with 6 pills a day. I was also given Gabapentin (a nerve blocked), Acyclovir, a muscle relaxant, pain medication and two separate eye drops, one of which was also low-dose Pred. After the 3 week course of treatment was done, I had to continue for another week, but with lower doses.
Side effects: I did not notice any side effects except that my appetite was seriously jacked up! I ate anything and everything -- and then some! Food was my best friend and I hogged everything in site! In hindsight, when I try to assess myself and any changed, I guess I do have some attitude issues in that I am quicker to anger, quicker to react and respond and seem to "snap" a lot quicker.... Oh yeah I am also on antidepressants.... I now have one droopy eyelid due to the nerve damage from the Shingles and permanent damage to the cornea and tear ducts.... However I am not really sure how much of that is due to the Shingles and how much is due to the Prednisone.

My 89-year old mother was hospitalized in August for emphysema and chronic lung disease, she was down to 81 lbs. They treated & released her and she was on a descending dose of Prednisone for a week. She needed to gain some weight & gained 3 lbs! This was very good.... She is still smoking and her doctor will NOT insist she quit (I think they have given up). They put her back on a 2-week course of Pred again last week. Her appetite is back up Yeah! but she has some serious attitude and anger issues. We are only 1 week into the 2 weeks and I don't know how our family is going to stand taking care of this evil old woman during this Prednisone treatment, and afterwards. I'm sorry I ever let the doctor put her back on it--- however she is gaining weight and getting (falsely) stronger, which she needed.

I started the Nuvaring Friday afternoon, by Sunday I felt overly emotional, crying. I first chalked this up to that I haven't been on any hormonal birth control in a few years, and that it should go away. Now it's Wednesday, and I have had nausea, and this weird muscle spasm above my left knee. I'm tired, cranky, feel like I have bronchitis in the chest, and at my wits end. I'm calling my doc office when they open today. Has anyone had these muscle spasms?

I had previously taken singulair for asthma and seemed fine! So fine I stopped taking singulair end of December 2006. Recently, I noticed I needed my inhaler a couple of times a day--I exercise vigorously 5-6 days a week. I asked my GYN to re-prescribe. Started my first 10 mg dose Wednesday evening (!8Apr), Friday afternoon I had a sore throat..pretty severe by day's end--Saturday I had full blown bronchitis (upper respiratory infection) Had to dust off my nebulizer.
Love Merck's disclaimer: Side effects are generally mild and vary by age, and may include headache, ear infection, SORE THROAT, and UPPER RESPIRATORY INFECTION. Side effects generally did not stop patients from taking SINGULAIR. IS IT WORTH IT? DOES IT GET BETTER?

I went to the doctor on 3/12/07 (Monday) for a cold. I had laryngitis for several days. I started taking Levaquin 750 mg. on Monday. By Wednesday, I had severe pain in my joints in muscles especially my legs. It was so severe I was in tears and ready to go to the hospital. On Thursday I called the doctor and he told me to stop taking it and prescribed a new antibiotic. On Friday my pain started to subside somewhat, but it was still uncomfortable. BY the time I went to the doctor on Friday afternoon I had red blotches all over my arms and face. I wish I had done more research on this drug before taking it! I had to cancel a hair appoitnment that week and my hairdresser said she had the same exact symptoms and they only stopped when she stopped the medication.

I took the prescribed dosage of Ultracet (2 caplets every 6 hrs as needed for pain) on Friday afternoon. It was prescribed for an injury to my wrist that resulted in prolonged swelling and pain. I took it on an empty stomach because the directions said it would make no difference and would speed absorption. About 30 minutes later I ate. Big mistake. I had severe nausea and a dizzy, woozy feeling. I did vomit but must have retained enough of the drug as I was still groggy 8 hours later. I rode it out all night and did not take the recommended dosage after 6 hours. No pain though. I decided the dosage was too much for me and took one pill, with food, the next morning. I spent all day in the recliner, fading in and out, and letting the Movie Channel watch me! The Ultracet relieved my pain...I think. I certainly did not have the intense pain I had suffered but I also lost my ability to function. I stopped taking the medication. There is no way I could drive or work while taking Ultracet. I had enough trouble navigating the hallway.

The Doctor did not ask me if I had asthma which I do. Plus I started feeling bad and started passing blood and blood clots in urine within 4 days. Assume my infection has returned however called his office and never received a call back. This was of course on a Friday afternoon so will have to wait till Monday to see that they can do about it. Have been passing blood and clots for 3 days now.
