I have been on Prednisone 40mg x 5 days and am now reducing to 30mg x 5 days followed by a 10mg reduction q 5 days until I am off the med. I have read your blogs and my heart goes out to you all.

Has anyone lost their sense of taste? I can only taste salty things, but just the salt only. I have the nausea, stomach pains, depression, mood swings, inability to focus and a tremendous amount of 'floaters' in my eyes. In general, I am extremely drug sensitive, but the Prednisone has brought me to a place I don't want to be.

I welcome your input on the sense of taste issue. Thanks in advance for your comments.

Took this medication with hydrochlorothiazide due to high blood pressure. Two weeks ago I took a nap Friday evening after school (I teach school from 8 to 4:30), and woke up with half my face and tongue swollen. I thought it must have been a food allergy.
This Friday, while at the gym, my tongue started swelling on one side. By the time I got home, my neck was swelling on that side. I called the doctor and got a dose pack of prednisone and went and picked it up. I took the first 6 pills at 8:30. 2 hours later the other side of my tongue was 3-4 inches thick and my neck was swelling to the point it was equal to or outside my head. I took another 4 pills and a benadryl.
I almost went to the hospital, but held out because of the out of pocket expense with my insurance. Finally, about 2 the swelling of my tongue subsided. I tried to lie down around 4 a.m., but couldn't breath due to swelling in throat. Had to sit up all night.
Now, Sunday afternoon, I still have some swelling in my throat. I was never warned that such side effects were possible. I wonder how many people have been effected and if the FDA has any idea of the numbers.
swelling of tongue,
swelling of neck,
trouble breathing,
trouble swallowing.
I had been on this medicine for 3 months. I'll never take another blood pressure medicine. And, I have to find a new doctor that I trust.

Took liquid fosamax for the first time Monday morn. By Friday evening I felt like a truck hit me, from my neck to my hips I was in such pain I could hardly move. My rib cage feels like its filled with bricks. No more of this fosamax for me. With all I have been reading, here and on webmd, its hard to believe nothing is done. It's all a money think and I am sick of doctors trying to push every drug there is on you. Did you ever watch TV for a few hours and count how many drug ads are on?? If it was up to them, we would each be on 20 pills a day.

I have been on Topamax since August 2005. This spring I began to have odd problems that I did not attribute to the drug. In April, my doctor prescribed Lasix for swelling in my legs and feet. In August I developed peripheral neuropathy in my legs and feet and began experiencing numbness in my chin and lower face. My doctor prescribed Lyrica for the peripheral neuropathy. Also in August, I began experiencing extreme fatigue and sleepiness. I became depressed and irritable. By September was falling asleep everywhere--even driving. I was exhausted because I awoke from sleep feeling totally unrested. I had a sleep study done and they told me I spent only 25% of the normal amount of time in the two deeper stages of sleep. At the beginning of November, I suddenly became plagued with excessive thoughts of suicide one Friday evening. I decided to stop all my meds, except the antidepressant. Within 48 hours I felt MUCH better. No obsessive thoughts and no more falling asleep. I felt like a giant weight had been lifted from my shoulders. By Thursday I was feeling rested when I awoke in the mornings. I looked up all my meds, including the clinical trials with ALL the side effects and recommendations on Tuesday of that week. Lasix increases the potency of the Topamax and has many of the same bad side effects as the Lyrica I was prescribed--sleep disturbance, depression, dry mouth, etc., etc. Since stopping those medications the first of November, Topamax, Lasix, and Lyrica, I have returned to normal. Even the peripheral neuropathy is MUCH better. No swelling or sleepiness or fatigue. No more irritability or deep depression. Definitely no thoughts of suicide. I can taste food again. And none of the migraines for which the Topamax was prescribed. My doctor is pleased that I am feeling so much better and concurs with the action I took. The medications were apparently interacting with one another and multiplying the intensity of the side effects. So, if you take multiple medications, please go to the clinical studies themselves and read about ALL the side effects uncovered in the studies. On the prescription information we get at the pharmacy, it lists only those discovered at "high incidence", including interactions with other medications.

I had the Mirena fitted not quite two weeks ago. Friday evening, I had a panic attack with depressive tendencies including nasty, nasty thoughts -- along the "my kids would be better without me" lines -- not suicidal, but horrible nonetheless. This is so completely out of line with my normal thinking, it was as if an alien had taken over my brain! Fortunately, a good friend of mine helped me to get re-grounded, and insisted that I speak to a doc about a return to antidepressant meds (I'd been avoiding them, but completely agreed). She called me back perhaps 1/2 hour later with one simple instruction: "Google "IUD Depression." I was shocked to see all of the horror stories of the Mirena. Like many, I'd believed that the hormones were limited to the reproductive tract, so wouldn't affect the rest of my system. Whoops.

Knowing that I'm highly sensitive to hormonal BC (the pill makes me a crazy person), I'm having it out at my 2-week check tomorrow. What good is birth control if it means I'm irritable, cranky, and completely pissed (for no good reason) at my husband?

Back to TCOYF for me -- and I'm now on a mission to learn to love condoms. Oh, and to determine if I really *need* AD meds, or if removing the Mirena will do the trick. Any thoughts?

I started taking Bactrim last Monday evening. When I started to have tightens in the chest and feeling very tired on Thursday evening, I didn't contribute it to the medicine. I went to bed and woke up at 2:30 am because of the chest discomfort. I didn't take my Thursday evening and Friday morning dosages because I felt yucky. By Friday morning, my chest was tight and under my left arm ached. I called my doctor's office and told the receptionist that my chest was hurting and I needed to come in on Monday and that I stopped taking Bactrim. Yes told me that I shouldn't have stopped. So I took another pill on Friday evening. I forgot to take one on Saturday morning because I didn't eat breakfast at home and I didn't take the medicine with me. Started retaking them on Saturday night. Within one to two hours of taking the pill, I started to itch. I still didn't know what was wrong. I finally went to bed and I woke up at 3:30 am itching like crazy. Now I noticed I had red bumps and splotches all over my body (legs, arms, back, stomach, chest, and etc). I have been itching since Saturday night and it is now Monday night. I went to the doctor today and I was told that I should stop taking Bactrim.

I will never take this again.

I started taking Levaquin on Friday evening at 8:00 p.m. because I had a urinerary infection. I attempted to go to bed on Friday night at around 11:00 p.m. and I started to twist and turn and become very restless. It was as if I had coffee before I went to bed and, of course, I did not. It was now 4:00 a.m. and I was still wide awake. The next day I took the pill at 2:00 p.m. hoping by taking it earlier in the day I wouldn't have a problem sleeping. Thank goodness I had no problem sleeping that night. I slept straight through the night. The 3rd day I took the pill at 8:00 p.m. again and again I had insomnia. Did you ever hear of someone having insomnia from Levaquin? Please advise.
Thank you.

Zyloprim was prescribed for my dog a Chow Chow sick with Leishmaniasis. Within five days of starting her on the drug it nearly killed her. I started her on it on Tuesday, April 15. Within about two days, she quit eating, began drinking huge amounts of water and became progressively weaker. I had bad feelings about what was happening and I quit giving her the Zylopim on either Friday evening or Saturday morning. On Saturday evening she was so weak she could barely walk out of the kennel or stand. She got progressively weaker Sunday. By Sunday evening, I did not think she would survive until morning. She became so weak that she could not stand or sit or even lift her head. I had to give her water by holding her head up and using a syringe. On MOnday morning I was very surprised that she was still alive and now could hold her head up but had no eneregy and could barely stand up. It took a full week (until Sunday April 27)from Sunday for her to get back to where she was before she started receving the drug. She also developed a huge open leison on one elbow and I noted she developed open sores and a discharge from several of her nipples. Literature on Leishmaniasis said to give 20 mg /kg a day. She weighed about 41 lbs (use to weigh about 60 lbs before the Leismaniasis made her sick). I will have to check the bottle. She may have been overdosed
