Hello everyone. My name is Michael, and my experiences with Advair were so horrific, I thought I would post here as a both a cautionary to those who would use this product, and to validate those who thought "they were crazy" while using it.
I was diagnosed with "World Trade cough" as a result of my four month exposure from that disaster. It finally culminated in frequent walking pneumonias and a sinus-drip initiated cough, which is really part of a complicated process from GERD, also World Trade related. Finally, the pulmonologist diagnosed the obvious "RADS", Reactive Airway Disease.
I was prescribed Aidvair Diskus inhaler 500/250 twice a day, along with Nasonex and Nexium. The first two months seemed uneventful. As my cough cleared, I saw no reason to take the medication anymore and slowly titrated its discontinuation.
Then everything went awfully wrong and my nightmare started. First, panic and anxiety attacks, which I hadn't suffered since World Trade overtook me at different times of the day. Only the Toprol for my high blood pressure kept me under control and out of the E/R with uncontrollable tachycardia. Next, the Depression which also was overwhelming, and the compounded fears from physical symptoms. Then the "TRUSH" came in my mouth and a concomitant fungal infection in my groin. Swollen glands in my neck. Fever, fatigue, listlessness joined the symptoms.
Though a committed heterosexual, a bachelor party a month ago raised spectre's too awful to contemplate and I insisted on the most ultra-sensitive diagnostic blood tests to rule out dreaded disease ( I did responsibly use a condom ). The 24 hours from yesterday to today were like sitting on death row, awaiting an answer. ALL NEGATIVE, including Diabetes.
Then I saw this site and had to enroll to tell this story. All of it was here from the THRUSH, which scared me the most, to the Depression and anxiety attacks, which made my fears really get out of control. The Advair had nearly destroyed my immune system.
I am taking "CLORIMAZOLE" for the fungus, which is no bargain...liver toxicity and nausea. Still, far preferable to the feared diseases.
I learned that so-called "modern medicine" is little advanced from the witch doctor. If you read the Pharmacology inserts, half the time they don't even know why something works, and they can't isolate the good effect from the bad. Then, they assault your body with another extreme ( anti-fungal ) to combat what they caused from the first medicine.
My new girlfriend is Chinese. Next time I am sick, I am trying alternative medicine. In the meantime, for anyone prescribed or handed a sample by their doctor, AVOID THIS MEDICATION IF YOU CAN!

In December of 2006 i was taken from school to the emergency room for sever menstrual contractions. It was the first time i had ever experienced that kind of pain during my period. Literally it felt like i was going to have a baby.
My doctor put me on Loestrin and it worked beautifully. My periods stopped completely after 2 months. I had no symptoms at all, no side effects either. Now that i have been on it for almost 2 years my periods are coming back (only lasting about 3 days), my cramps are returning, ive developed muscle and joint pain, my lower back stiffens up making it difficult to stand or walk for more than 15 minutes, i get dizzy easily, and now ive developed brown spots on my back near my shoulders. if any one else has these spots please let me know so don't think im crazy. My doctor says i have a fungal infection but iv had it for 6months now. IDK!!

Hey everyone,
I am 27 year old mother of 2 girls 5 and 1. I got Mirena in June of 2007. At first I had no side effects. About 3 months ago, I started having extreme vaginal dryness and itching. I thought it was a yeast infection so I tasted it. Then it came back a month later but worse, so bad my skin in the top fold of my outer labia was cracked. It went away after 5 or 6 days, then came back again. I had my annual pap today and my doc said that it was not related to Mirena and could possibly be herpes!!! I don't have typical sores or blisters, just dry and cracked skin down there??? Has anyone else had these side effects. I have been married for 7 years to the same man. Can anyone help??

My husband was given a sample of this for a month-long bout of bronchitis and we are now thinking it has done permanent damage to his vocal chords. He only used it 5 times, got thrush (yeast infection) in his throat and is still hoarse after a week of being off of it. Does anyone know the history of this drug and has the word "class action lawsuit" crossed anyone's mind besides mine? I am amazed at the way pharmaceutical companies run the healthcare business in this country!
I don't want to go off on a rant here, but are people aware that a large portion of the FDA's operating budget is provided by pharmaceutical manufacturers? This isn't our first experience with this type of thing and I'm about to launch a grassroots campaign to educate the public. Maybe they'll stop believing all the marketing hype.
I'm thinking that the pharmaceutical companies ought to heed the Hippocratic oath - FIRST, DO NO HARM. Wouldn't it be a remarkably different world if they would take all the money they're spending on marketing and use it to lower the price of orphan and AIDS drugs? They keep saying that research is expensive - and advertising on every possible television show, radio and magazines is cheap? Hello? Are we going to be sheep or are we going to be citizens and hold these companies responsible for what they're doing. Thanks for letting me vent. Please contact me if you want to do something about this. And no, I'm not an attorney, but I'm a writer and I think I just found out what my first book is going to be about...

I'm a 23 year-old college student from Michigan. I started taking doxycycline on 3/3/07 and was instructed to take it for about 2 weeks. I started taking it because i was experiencing a skin rash on my chin, and was told that it was due to a bacterial/fungal infection. i stopped taking it on saturday 3/17/07.
When i first started taking the medication there weren't any inital side effects. I then found that i was breaking out it tiny little red hives, and had red patches of skin on my stomach, neck and gentials. at first i thought it was just a food allergy, and then i started to get really tired and naseauted. then i noticed that the gland on the right side of my throat was constantly swollen. during the two weeks i was taking the medication, i lost about 5 pounds. i found myself weak, tired and with no energy. i had no appetite, had blurred vision (i have 20/20 vision so i though that was weird) and i was in a constant state of anxiety. My stress and anxiety got so bad that i seriously thought i was going to die.
i freaked out so bad that i thought i might even have HIV (because the side effects for doxycycline are similar to the symptoms of HIV: fatigue, rapid weight loss, diarreah, swollen glands, muscle soreness, rash etc. ) so i went and got tested for STDs and HIV. The doctors at the clinic said that everything seemed normal, and while i'm still awaiting the results from the tests, i found that all of my symptoms are in fact due to the antibiotic.
Since i stopped taking the antibiotic i've been suffering from sharp pains in my abdomen. I have very bad cramps and foul smelling gas/stool. I get dizzy very easily and find myself in so much discomfort that it's difficult to concentrate or do much of anything.
I was wondering if anyone knew how long this side effects tend to last, or how long it takes for the body to go back to normal? because this really sucks. I was self conscious about the rash i had, but the rash seemed a lot better than the side effects from the antibiotics.
anyone else feel this way?

Seems like worst medicine I've ever had. I'm 32 years old male . After 3 days of dose of omnicef, I started to have diarrhea. Diarrhea got worsened . And after 5 days of dose, Now I'm having severe rash at my lower body. I researched web and found it is similar to fungal infection like jock itch. I'm medicating myself with clorimazole cream . Todays 6th day and the rash doesn't seem get any better. If someone's without insurance like me, this poor medication means few more hundred bucks to treat the skin problem. I decided to notice doctor of these side effect and will never recommend this medicine to anyone .

unrelenting laryngitis...it didn't go away until I stopped the drug. I have not taken it for around a month. I had multiple side effect taking the full adult dose. However, Singulair was very effective at halting my allergy symptoms. Allergy-wise it was one of the best summers since childhood. It also seemed to clear things up for the month after I quit. They say there is a fungal infection usually at the root of chroncity with sinusitis...well, maybe, just maybe Singulair cleared that up for me. I am, once again, experiening symptoms so, I have decided to give it a go once more. I am going to see if I can take it for a couple of days full strength and then go down to half or the pediatric dose. I was going to chuck it for good because I had headaches, laryngitis, muscle cramps, stomach and chest pains, extreme tiredness, dizziness and I became a very angry and unhappy depressed woman and that really is bad if you're already female and over fifty!! I'll post the effects of the new regimen I am going to try with the reduced dose and for a smaller length of time of use of the medication.

I did not think I was having any problems with Advair until I read an article about side effects. I have many.....leg cramps, muscle aches, fungal infection in mouth, and more. The one I am curious about though I am not sure if it is related to Advair or not. I would really like some info. I quit smoking in March, 2005, after smoking for 39 years. Since I quit, I have noticed (more than before) that I still cough quite a lot. Most is very dry, hacking cough, but occasionally, I bring up some mucous from my lungs, and it is solid. If it was a very large piece of mucous, I would actually choke on it. Most are small but numerous. Any suggestions??
Thanks

I am a registered respiratory therapist and like to read about side effects of respiratory medications. For those of you who are suffering from these harsh side effects know that there are alternatives to steroids. Ask your doctors about mast cell stabilizers or leukotriene inhibitors...
Please remember to wash your mouths thoroughly after adminstering Advair to prevent what is called Candida (thrush) an oropharyngeal fungal infection.

I really don't know if Advair (or leaving Advair) is causing my symptoms. I was on Advair for 2 years (on and off for allergic asthma) and the only side effect that I had was weight gain. I started to get slight rash on my face that wouldn't go away in Sept. 04 so I stopped taking the Advair sometime around the end of the month. The second week of October I was very stressed for several days and ended up getting a fungal infection of the mouth. The doc gave me antibiotics and it cleared up. I got another mouth fungal infection on November 9 and it hasn't cleared up yet. Could this possibly still be from Advair use? I am very worried and don't know where else to look.

Hello again,
Update:
Went to my doctor's office and fired him. I was there thursday and told him about my ears and my nose and my burning tongue. He shoved a tongue depressor in my mouth, causing me massive distress, brought tears to my eyes. Said, Um hm, listened to my lungs, prescribed Zyrtec (allergy Medication) and sent me on my merry way!
NOT ONCE did he look in my ears or nose. Dumba...!
So friday I went back and fired him officially and professionally, in front of his staff and other patients. Changed to another primary care physician in the center (this one actually diagnosed my pneumonia 3 weeks ago) and went through urgent care.
After Spending most of Friday early am on the puter, I discovered that what I was suffering from in my mouth was a fungal infection caused by all the antibiotics I was taking and it is called Thrush. I confirmed this by looking at my tongue in a mirror and seeing white patches on the left side of my tongue. I tried a home remedy: DO NOT DO THIS!!!!! it said at web md I believe, I am not sure, to do 1part hydrogen peroxiide and 3 parts water, gargle and swish in mouth.
At first, the first 10 seconds, no reaciton...then HOLY CRAP!
My mouth foamed up like I had the rabies! and the PAIN!!!
OMG in Heaven. after rinsing with plain water I looked at my poor tongue through tears and saw the spots enlarge by the peroxide. Now, if I could see the spots before the peroxide and after, how come Doctor Dipsh> didnt see em with a magnifier and bright light?
The walk in doctor confirmed my own diagnosis of Thrush. Prescribed Nystatin liquid which I have to use 4-5 times a day (20-25 bucks at Winn Dixie Pharmacy prescription only)
Difulcan to combat a vaginal yeast infection
Doxycline for the sinus and Ear infections. (yes, another antibiotic!)
She said that the zithromax was having no effect whatsover on the ear infection or sinus'.
If you want to discuss any situation concerning this topic, please contact me at tellirma@hotmail.com. I am a writer for a newspaper and I am putting together a series on this. It is such BS. We must stick together and help ourselves and our dumba.. doctors....if we dont who will?
Sincerely,
Irma Fruci

I was prescribed this drug for a fungal infection. I will never take it again, I cant think straight, I'm weak, have nausea, jittery, I feel like a bowl of jello on the inside and I'm soooo tired after I take a pill. Its throwing off my balance, cant ride the horses. Hey did you know that this is a drug I give my horses? Its no wonder they hate taking it, I do too. I think I will have the vet give them something else and the doctor can definitely find me something else, this is a horrible drug.
