I was in the hospital for a gall bladder surgery 2 weeks ago and found out while in there I had a UTI. The doctor's at the hospital put me on Clarithromycin the first day. Then my family Dr. came in and changed it to Levaquin via IV drip for another 6 days. I was then prescribed 2 pills for when I got home to take. The first 2 days in the hospital I had pain in my shoulder and I know that was from the air they blew into me for the surgery. BUT, after that, I have had continued shoulder, neck pain and now has spread into my wrists, my legs, virtually I feel like one big ache. Last night, I had to take my shirt off because it was hurting my skin for the shirt to touch it. My sense of taste is weird too. I have Ehlers Danlos Syndrome but I know that my pain right now is a direct result from Levaquin. I went in to fix one problem and came out with another one. Like I need that! I feel for all of you. I identify with most all of your complaints. I was on the drug for 10 days. I can barely grasp anything without pain in my left hand. I don't know what to do. Does this go away? Or is this permanent?

Update on my post of Aug. 11th. I did see a neurologist who was a bit skeptical, but after looking it up did acknowledge that this drug can cause tendon ruptures, etc. Later that week he did a nerve conduction study, both the one with the needles and the one where they shock the muscles. He was happy to report that I did not have any "nerve" damage. I had already told him that I did not think I had neuropathy as the numbness had gone away and was just replaced by the constant pain in my joints, etc. I then went to see my rheumatologist who was also just as skeptical that the drug could be causing all the pain I was describing. She said she had had three patients with tendon ruptures, but nothing else. I really don't care what she believes, and I told her so. I know what happened and what horrible pain I have been in ever since. I hate to report that the pain in my feet, knees, hands, hips, back and now my neck are not any better. My insomnia is some better, but I am taking more Lyrica. I tried a different antibiotic yesterday for the sinus infection called Clindamycin. OMG! I took one pill and within a few minutes had unbelievable heartburn. That lasted for 12 hours, along with reflux, burping, weird stomach noises. Now, I can't take that. Doctor called in a prescription for Augmentin this morning. Afraid to try anything now, but guess I will give it a shot. Is anyone getting any better from their joint or muscle pain? Some encourgement would be good. Thanks.

I had gall bladder surgery, and to begin with was afraid to take it. I eventually became so paranoid that I would have pain from my surgery(even after I was better). I began to take it even if I didn't need it. It gave me semi-high a feeling, felt like superwoman, and would even use it for nerves. After taking it for about three weeks, the last two times I took it, I had major chest pain epsiodes that would then, a few seconds after, would make me break out in a sweat and become nauseated. My ears would ring and I would go numb. VERY SCARY!!! After the second spell, I thhew the rest in the garbage. This stuff is very addictive! Please take only if needed and as prescribed by your doctor.

I am a 56 year old female given this drug after gall bladder surgery I left the hospitaL feeling almost decent I woke up in the hospital with sweats after they gave me my dose. When I took it at home my first dose I took a nap woke up with no strength in my legs in the middle of the night I had two episodes of sweating profusely. My thinking has slowed I fell like my life was zapped from me. Now I know why my potassium was so low in the hospital. I am sitting here wanting to cry. I have to support a family this is awful that no one knows anything about these drugs. I am mad get this stuff off the market. It is taking me so long to just think of what to write. Wow what if I wasn't smart enough to figure out what it is.
