Been on Omeprazole for 5 days, no side effects to start with and it does seem to have reduced the burning in my stomach slightly, but just today I feel like I've done a heavy aerobics class, all my muscles ache, which makes me feel even more tired and out of sorts than before.
I am on Omeprazole to treat gastritis which might be what is causing iron deficiency anemia and B12 deficiency I have been diagnosed with. Many of the symptoms listed in other articles I had before I started Omeprazole - perhaps because of deficiencies. e.g. confusion and not being able to concentrate, utter tiredness, dizziness, massive leg cramps, blurred vision, occasional feeling of heavy heart beat, bloating, having to sleep sitting up, waking up far too early and not being able to sleep again, depression for no reason.

Hi,
I was prescribed Omeprazole for gastritis. I took one before dinner and felt fine
that night. The next morning is when it hit me. I felt lightheaded, extremely nauseous and fatigue. After eating, I was having a hard time breathing. I panicked and went to the Urgent Care. They told me they don't think it was the medication but to discontinue taking it and see if I feel better. It has been five days since taking the medication and most of the symptoms have subsided but I don't feel like my old self. I still feel tired most of the day and even minor tasks are difficult. I will NEVER take this medication again or anything closely related to it.

I started using Yasmin one month ago after using Yaz for a year. I had no problems on Yaz, but have had a multitude of problems that I believe are related to Yasmin. One of the side effects I'm having that I don't see listed by anyone else is insomnia. I am 45 years old and have never had any problems going to sleep initially or when I wake up to go to the bathroom in the middle of the night. Before Yasmin, I would get up once in the middle of night to urinate, and now, I'm getting up 4 or 5 times a night and then sometimes, it takes me an hour to go back to sleep. I have also been feeling depressed and more anxious than usual. During the second week of Yasmin, I had gastritis that lasted for about a week. Gastritis is something I typically get 3 or 4 times a year, but I'm thinking it's another side effect caused by Yasmin. I've also had more nausea and bowel problems this month than normal. I have breast tenderness and I had unexplained rib pain for a few days. Finally, my belly seems to be more bloated than normal. I have an appointment with my doctor tomorrow and I WILL be switching to another pill.

I was taking lisinopril and as far as my blood pressure goes, it worked great. However, after taking this drug (and Diovan and Benicar as well,) over time I developed Gastritis and GERD. I've switched to Micardis recently. Day 5 today and I don't get the sharp stomach pains I would get 20 or so minutes after dosing Lisinopril. IMO blood pressure is important to control. There's 100's of these type of drugs out there. I suggest to keep on trying different ones until you find one that works for you. This is number 5 for me (I tried Tekturna, which did not give me the digestion side effects, but was not effective for my bp.) I went with Micardis next because it's formulated differently than the Diovans and Cozaars and Lisinoprils, and so far so good. Wish me luck.

Hi, I am a 57 year old female who was just recently put on Fosamax to counteract the bone loss caused by Femera that I am taking to keep my breast cancer from coming back. The first two weeks I felt okay albeit I did have stomach ache for two days and loose bowels. Then the bone pain began and I mean pain, not light, not moderate as the labels say, and it was especially severe at night. I found myself also feeling dizzy, depressed, no energy, kinda weird. I couldn't have relations with my husband because my hips and pelvis were so painful, also my neck, lower back and legs. Not fun. I took myself off it....Bone pain subsiding..also gastric upsets were getting worse. I tend toward gastritis and have IBS so this drug did not agree with me. I hate it! Will not go on any of these again, as I have also had lots of jaw problems in the past, and dental problems and DO NOT WANT that horrible jaw thing to happen. Yike... Love Pam

I am a 56 y/o female who started on Fosamax last Sunday. I have a dx of osteopenia. I followed the directions of taking pill with full glass of water and remained upright for 30 minutes before having anything to eat. I was fine on Sunday but on Monday I woke with SEVERE bone pain! My whole rib cage, back, knees and heels were hurting so bad. It felt like I had pain in every bone in my body. I could not take in a full deap breath as my rib cage was hurting so bad. I could not bend or turn without terrible pain. My energy level was zero. I immediately called my doctor who told me to hold the Fosamax (ya think?) and ordered Vit D lab levels. Apparently when you Vit D levels are off (don't know if too high or too low) you can suffer this bone pain. I am awaiting the results. The pain is better today and I was told it takes 5 days to get out of your system. I only wish I had done my homework and found this site before taking this poison. I have to say I'm a registered nurse and know that ALL medications have side effects and everyone responds to meds differently. Some side effects subside as your body gets use to it and some can experience severe allergic reactions. But it's important to weigh the risk vs the benefit. I would rather deal with osteopenia in another way. So my search begins for alternatives to Fosamax for good bone health. Has anyone had good results with other supplements/meds?

I started taking Yasmin 2 years ago, and after about the first 2-3 months of taking Yasmin, I started experiencing horrendous pains after sex. Once my doctor figured out what was going on, I was diagnosed with Endometriosis. Not long after that, I was diagnosed with Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome. Now I am more than likely unable to have children, and am at risk for cervical cancer, cardiovascular disease, and Diabetes.
If anyone else has recently been diagnosed with Endometriosis, or PCOS after taking Yasmin....PLEASE reply or contact me!!!!!!!!!!!

I began taking statins about 10 years ago because of a high cholesterol blood test, beginning with Lipex and then Lipitor about two years later. Until recently, I was taking 40 mg daily. I developed multiple migraines with auras after about two years of statins, then I had a 13 hour episode of transient global amnesia. For the next two years I had constant nausea and tinnitus, foot and leg cramps, with the migraines occurring frequently. At the beginning of this year, I had my first episode of paroxysmal hypertension. In June, July and August this year, my blood pressure was labile and it was accompanied by nausea, tinnitus, feelings of great weakness, painful tightening in left arm, shakiness, enervation. The general physician I saw in hospital thought my migraines could be triggering the paroxysmal blood pressure. (Later when I read the weight of anecdotal evidence on the internet, I asked myself whether both were triggered by Lipitor.) It was then discovered that I had acute gastritis. When I was told that the cause might be one of the drugs I was taking, I looked up Lipitor on the internet. I could see so many of my own symptoms but the standout side effect for me was transient global amnesia. After reading the many websites on Lipitor side effects, I asked myself whether both were triggered by the Lipitor. I stopped the Lipitor immediately and the doctor I was seeing at that time agreed that my decision was the right one. However, my general practitioner only accepts the peripheral neuropathies and tinnitus as Lipitor side effects because TGA is not listed in Pfizer's patient notes. When I contacted Pfizer, they said TGAs were not listed in their research material, but when I pressed the point, admitted that TGAs are a form of amnesia, which is listed but only in the material given out to doctors on request.

My husband is also on Lipitor for CAD. Although his cholesterol readings were low, his doctor doubled his dose of Lipitor. Since that time he developed appalling short term memory problems and could not think through relatively simple problems without a great effort. He cut the dose by half without reference to his doctor, and his short term memory had definitely improved. He is considering his next step.

I wish I could say that my symptoms are something new but they're not. I can only thank God that I found this site and finally feel like I'm not totally crazy! I received a cortisone shot (kenalog and Lidocaine) on June 15th. June 17th I started experiencing tingling down my arms, across my shoulders, serious heartburn, change in tastebuds (sour tasting all the time), which progressed with a sudden case of high blood pressure. My period also came a week late and has not left yet but only taken short vacations (3-5 days of light to no bleeding, followed by a regular flow with some gushes all over again). Two weeks ago I started having a tight sensation in my jaw and cheek with sensitivity right under my ears. I've had periods of dizziness, severe migraines as well as heart palpitations (fluttering in my throat). Added to this is swelling down one side at any given time, changing back and forth with no reasoning. I had severe gastritis and GERP as a result as well.

I too was living a healthy life and regret the moment I agreed to that shot. Does anyone know how long these side effects last? Who do you see to deal with them? Are they mimics of real situations (do heart palpitations turn into heart attacks? gastritis turn into ulcers?)

I started taking advair in September of 2006 after being diagnosed with allergy related asthma. I took it for 3 months. Then stopped for a few months over the winter and restarted in spring because of more serious symptoms of asthma. I have had severe stomach upset, acid reflex, rashes, and weight gain. I also feel dizzy a lot. I am very health consious and work out all of the time. I never gain weight so it seems obvious to me advair is the culprit. I am going to try getting allergy shots and see if I can stay off the advair. In home air filters do seem to help with the asthma

Thank you for all of your shares! Has anyone experienced Diarrhea as a result of taking Yasmin 28? I have been on it for 4/5 years. I started taking it because my GYN diagnosed me with endometriosis and my periods were heavy and sooo very painful. So, at first it was a relief; my periods didn't last as long, were not as heavy and the cramps were lessened. HOWEVER, ever since I have been on the Yasmin, I have been certainly very moody, and I have had moderate to severe tummy pains a lot of the time, and spontaneous bowel movements including diarrhea! I have tried every medication from anti-spasmadic meds to anti-anxiety meds to homeopathic remedies and probiotics. I was diagnosed with IBS many years ago but the symptoms grew soooo much worse ever since I started the Yasmin!! After being on Yasmin, it was as if my whole gastro system broke down; I have seeked help & testing from gastroenterologists since I developed ulcers due to h-pylori bacteria, diverticulosis of the intestines, gastritis (inflammation of the stomach lining)and I even developed a hiatal hernia and have to take prevacid daily ever since I started taking Yasmin! I eat healthy, I am 33 years old, I don't drink or do drugs and I don't smoke. I swear I am beginning to think all of this may have been caused by the Yasmin since none of it was occurring before I started taking the Yasmin 4.5 years ago!? I think I want to get off of it now, but I am afraid to take any other birth control due to suffering from more side effects. Although I do want to have children with my boyfriend when we get married in a few years, I am in fear of getting pregnant now if I get off the Yasmin. I don't even know if the rythym method truly works. Help?!

After 14 months of suffering from Levaquin I am getting worse.

I have had sore ankles and achilles heels for months but last two days this has increased to where I can't walk on them. My shoulders, arms, hands, legs have incresed in pain 50 % in last two days. All I can do is moan, all night in bed and even during day now.

Just loaded up on Lorazepam today.

Also, my nerve system has been severely damaged.

I am over 50. I know what my body feels. Everything involving my nerves has changed from the first 24 hours I took this stuff back in Dec. 2005. My skin feels prickly. My sensitivity to cold and heat is so off and unbearable.

I get haywire feeling all through me all the time. My heart jumps. My ears pop. I feel extreme anxiety.
Everything connected to my nerves seems effected. I get odd bladder feelings. Penile soreness like a nerve twinge.
My intestinal tract is shot. Everything from gastritis to gerd to middle intestinal inflammation. I have diagnosed tendinitis, torn rotator cuff, fractured vertebrae, neck disc damage, etc.
I am low in B-12 to 100 level. Also low in Male Hormone.Have acquired bronchial asthma, sinusits, scarring in left lung.

I do not know how much more I can take. And it all started that week I took Levaquin and "no other medicine".

Hadn't taken any medicne for years previous to this.

I called Ortho-McNeill to complain and they asked what happened to me. I told them I was given this after being diagnosed with beginning bronchitis and low electrolytes at our local ER. The lady on the Ortho McNeil complaint line told me " they ( the ER ) should have never given you Levaquin when you had diagnosed electrolyte imbalance."

She also said they were aware of many complaints of tendon damage.

And no attorney will even touch my case. Go figure. This country is crazy.

Response to guest #31870 question.
My son was on Singulair continually from age 9-15.
At age 15 he began to develope acid reflux real bad.
He then was diagnosed with Gastritis and Moderate to severe Ulcerative Collitis, thus severe bloody diarea. He also had severe violent behavior on this med and would attack family members in a rage. His condition has not improved much off this med. He still has diarea and behavioral problems, but not violent. I think some of the effects stay with you. For example I think it could possibly have some permanant effect on the brain, as he was on it for 6 years. His behavioral problems started a few years into the med., the Dr. told me their was no connection. I beleived her and continued. Finally he had such bad stomach pains we went to the E.R.. His first ever blood tests showed that his ast/got (liver enzymes) were 3 times elevated (sky high). This is when I took him off singulair and then he developed the diarea and collitis. His live enzymes returned to normal within one month. This was about 2 years ago. I have never put him back on singulair, but I think he will have sone lasting effects forever, since he took this med during some crucial formative years, and for so long. If there is ever a law suit I will be the first to sign up.

I'm 45 (male) and never had asthma until a year ago-- it came on after a severe bout with bronchitis. The doc gave me Prednisone for a week, I also took Advair, Flonase, Aciphex (a stomach pill), and Singulair. After a few months, the asthma seemed to be gone, but the doc had me stay on Singulair (one per day, at night before bedtime) to be sure it didn't return.

Before the asthma and Singulair, I had stomach problems (diagnosed as gastritis) and some stiffness in my lower back. But for the past year, my stomach has been AWFUL-- even the meds don't help. And the stiffness has been really bad: I would have to stretch my hips, legs and feet, and stay in the hot shower as long as possible. I even had frequent bouts of diarrhea, which I attributed to the Aciphex-- but now I'm thinking it might have been the Singulair.

I discovered this site a few days ago and stopped the Singulair. I THINK my stomach is getting a little better, and some flexibility has returned. Of course, my nose has started running and my breathing isn't the greatest--but I'd be willing to deal with it if my stomach and muscles feel better.

IS IT POSSIBLE MY STOMACH PROBLEMS AND STIFF MUSCLES/JOINTS HAVE BEEN EXACERBATED BY SINGULAIR? If you've had this problem, please post a reply. How long will it take for the side effects to disappear?

Given Biaxin XL by an ENT for 3 weeks and my throat and tongue have not been the same for three months! I have an enlarged lymph node on my neck which at first only caused pressure with no other symptoms. A ENT explained that a antibiotic for three weeks is protocol and if the lymph node did not become smaller I would be sebt for a CAT scan and biopsey. So I followed the doctors orders ... by the 18th day of BIAXIN my heart was racing so fast at night , it was very frightening. My heart would skip beats and race at other times following the first episode. Finally I finished the medication and haad no change in size to this lymph node. Finally had a CAT scan and biopsey... biopsey only showed that the lymph node was " reacitve" not benign and thta CAT scan confirmed it's size. Within a few days of stopping the medication my throat felt funny, swollen, dry and sore and my saliva would not go down easily it felt stuck in different places. MY tongue eventually had ulcers on it and would be swollen when I would wake in the morning. My mouth would feel pasty and the back of my throat was bright red. When I went back to the ENT she tried to tell me I was fine and these symproms are probably from av virus... and if they didnt go away... she handed me another script for Biaxin. I ofcourse got a second opinion and was told I probably had reflux desease and was sent to a stomach doctor . I had an EGD and ofcourse they threw in a colonoscopy because " you might as well have it done at once while your put out ". Afterward I was told I had gastritis but that it was mild and probably from the Biaxin . All in all this doctor had no idea why my throat and tongue felt the way they did. He told me my esophagus was fine.. so maybe I should see a rheumatologist because I could have an autoimmune disorder. At this point Im going on almost two months of this balogna and the run around. My internist decides to draw my blood for HIV, all kinds of Hepatitis, lupus, rheumatoid arthritis, sed rate for inflammation , CBC to see if my white cells are O.K. , folate B12 , thiamine. All come back negative and show thta I am HEALTHY. I have lost 10 pounds and have lost all of my faith in doctors. A third ENT does alargoscopy and says my throat is irritated but he doesny know why... I decide to go to a larger facility that specializes in the throat. This becoming costly my family is begining to look at me as if I am nerotic. For a few weeks previous I only eat bland food and drink lotes of water. The doctor at this facility after examining my mouth and throat says my throat looks well and my tongue is swollen "glossitis" with geographic tongue... which is something modern medicine cant figure the cause of. He tells me I probably had a very bad yeast infection in my throat from all the Biaxin and Iahve managed to fight most if not all of it off. He asks that I swish ans spit NIASTAIN for two weeks. My tongue isnt swollen any longer but Is till get patches that come and go. The back of my throat still is inflamed especially if I have anything with ketchup or mayo. Something I never had a problem with. And I still wake up with the feeling that there is a film on the back of my throat or mucus on the back of my tongue near my throat. As if something is draining, and it isnt my sinuses. This is annoying and has been a horrible experience.I hope this crap goes away completely. I will nver take BAIXIN again. I think I had a horrible adverse reaction and my good bacteria was demolished from this crap. My body is trying so hard to recover and it will but its taking a long time because of this horrible medication!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I had been on Yasmin for 1 yr/1.5 yrs. I just stopped taking it about 3 weeks ago due to horrible side effects. In the first 3 months I had the dizziness, mental confusion, vertigo, etc. I told my OB and she just said to take it at a different time of day. I did and seemed to be ok.

However, then the next set of side effects came into play! The horrible GI problems! I'm talking about the severe nausea (like motion sickness that just doesn't go away no matter what you eat or how many antacids you take), bloating, horrible abdominal pain, diarrhea, vomiting, and the smell of food makes you sick. I went to a GI specialist and had the whole series done, barium upper GI series, ultrasound, HIDA scan (my gallbladder was only functioning at 24%!), and a gastric endoscopy. They diagnosed me with esophagitis and gastritis due to the lesions/ulcers in my throat and stomach. I've been on Nexium for over 2 months and was still having problems. My GI specialist was great and told me that she was not convinced that it was my gallbladder causing all of the problems. I could tell that she was racking her brain trying to figure this all out!! Nothing was making sense.

That's when I started doing my own research. This is the only medication that I take! I thankfully came across this site and saw the responses of other women who had my symptoms and worse. I stopped Yasmin the next day and switched back to Loestrin. I had switched to Yasmin due to insurance and the recommendation of my OB.

I have been getting better every day but have to get Vit B12 shots once a month and now have too much potassium in my system (hyperkalemia). I drink a ton of water each day especially when it is "a bad day" and I'm on a low potassium diet. Each day I get stronger and am able to exercise (not just get through the day!) and feel more like myself, young 34, active, sexy and happy to be alive! My heart goes out to all of you and hope that you are all getting better and getting the help that you need to get better.
Well wishes to all!
B

I previously posted that my son's liver enzymes were very elevatedon Singulair, Ast/got 3x what they should be. Off singulair one month and they went back to normal. He was having symptoms of severe reflux at the same time that the enzymes were elevated, had severe pain center chest-no vomiting. It turns out that he has a case of mild gastritis and moderate to severe ulcerative colitis. Has anyone else had this problem ? He never had the diareah from colitis until he stoped the med. He was on Singulair for more than 6 years with violent behavioral issues and meltdowns.

Post your symptoms since stopping Yasmin!!!

Hey everyone it's Kay21 here and I just wanted to post my 3 month off Yasmin update. Because stopping the pill is a hard decision, I figured we should all post are updates here to help/support those who are planning to stop or who have recently stopped Yasmin.

I have been off of Yasmin since April 17. As some of you already know, I was experiencing horrible side effects while on Yasmin for 3 years (particularly stomach problems, vaginal dryness, muscle cramps, increased blood pressure and heart rate and anxiety).

The first 1 month off of Yasmin was okay. In fact, I felt the best I had ever felt in a while. My blood pressure and heart rate decreased and the migraines and muscle cramps went away. But when I hit the 2 month (8 week) mark, I felt HORRIBLE. I was severely depressed and anxious. I was crying all the time and felt a severe sense of DOOM! The physical symptoms also started to become problematic. The acne increased and I started growing more facial hair. The worse symptom, however, was that I started losing a ton of hair. I would lose stray hairs all day (probably about 200 a day). Since I have hit the three month mark, the hair loss has gotten MUCH WORSE! Now I am losing CLUMPS of hair all day. I have seen several doctors about this. Some say it's because of stress and a few (a derm, GYN and endo) say that hiar loss is common after stopping bcp. I have already loss about 1/3 of my hair.

I am also really concerned, because I have not had a period since April 22. So my doctor has put me on provera for 10 days to induce a period.

For those who have stopped Yasmin, what have your symptoms been (i.e. increased acne, weight gain, anxiety, etc.). Has anyone experienced hair loss? How long did it take to get a period???

Thanks...

I was prescribed cipro to treat a UTI, however shortly after I started taking it I experienced a pain in my side that wouldn't go away followed by nausea. I also experienced major loss of appetite. I had to go to the emergency room, and turned out I was admitted with pancreatitis. Now I have symptoms of gastritis as well. I will never take this medication again!

I was given Ultracet to manage severe pain from sciatica. I was told that Ultracet was 'less addictive' than Percocet, which I'd been taking. What a disaster. The Ultracet faded out on me in less than three hours, leaving me in pain, and I developed severe stomach problems: acute, spasmadic cramps, inflamation of my stomach lining, and ultimately, gastritis. The doctor stopped the Ultracet as soon as I complained of the pain--by then, I could barely stand upright.

The gastritis is still a serious problem, months after stopping the Ultracet. I now have to take prescription medication for gastritis, and cannot take any pain reliever except acetomenophin. (For folks outside the U.S., even paracetamol aggravates the stomach.) This drug ruined my life. Everything, from my diet, to how I manage my pain, to how I perform my daily activities has had to be changed.

Please, please, PLEASE, discuss this option with your doctor before agreeing to take the 'less addictive' Ultracet.
