I took Yasmin for 5 months. I was sick while on it and decided to go off of it. My doctor said that it was not the pill, but as I got sicker she agreed I should go off of it. Within days I was in the hospital and for three years I suffered deteriorating health until we found that Yasmin had lowered my serum b12 very much and that deficiency will progressively cause many severe health problems. I also had low vitamin D and low protein c antigen which left me at higher risk of clotting. My symptoms: heacd aches, stomach problems, all digestion problems, swelling and weight gain, severe blood clots during menses, burning stomach, joint pain, heart palpitations, irregular heart beat, feeling cold at times, low body temperature, low blood pressure, confused thoughts, depression, low libido, as I got worse I also developed numb left leg and foot, numb hands and breathing irregularities during night time. I also suffered a miscarriage due to the b12 deficiency which was undiagnosed, because the fetus could not assimilate folic acid without enough b12 in my body.

I found an Endocrinologist that listened to me and he ruled out all hormonal issues and found the low serum b12, vitamin d, low protein c antigen. He then recommended me to a cardiologist who said I had a slight mitral valve prolapse something I had never had, which he felt had become symptomatic due to the severe health crisis. I saw an gastroenterologist, because I had taken Yasmin with Advil and it is contraindicated, but I was never told that. I saw a hematologist, who said my blood issues very hard to explain and after a year and seeing my medical record for years prior to Yasmin told me it seemed things changed after I took it. I am now in good health, but it took me 3 painful years to get here. I also got acupuncture to ease my symptoms.

Good luck to all of you! I have found out that in the US their is some work currently to bring litigation forward.

I have been prescribed cipro 2x for diverticulitis and has adverse reactions (after completing the recommended prescription) to dairy and fruits (citrus acid). When another bout of diverticulitis occurred, I asked my doctor not to give me cipro. He does some research and prescribes levaquin. I completed the prescription and now more than ever have adverse reactions to dairy and fruits and anything that has whey or citric acid in it. I think this is just the tip of the iceberg of exactly what I am allergic to. I have done extensive research of the adverse reactions from cipro and levaquin which for me once I eat these particular foods is extreme case of hives and skin rash. I have to take benydral. Sometimes it helps and sometimes it does not. I went to my gastroenterologist and allergist with complaints from taking these drugs and they have told me they have never had anyone come to them with complaints. Who are we kidding? With all the reading I have done, these drugs are poison. Although I know I am among the extreme side effect category, I need help and I can't get it anywhere. I have also read that these quinolone antibiotics are given to the animals, foul and fish that we eat. So does that mean we are ingesting extra quinolone into our systems when all we want to do is have it wear off? My wife feels that we should eat organic meats. I tried organic milk and I have reacted to it. I just want a bowl of cereal and a normal cup of coffee. Whey also gives me hives. Whey is in almost everything and so is citric acid as preservatives. If there are anyone of you out there that is or has experience similar to what I am, please let me know. My doctors cannot help me,nor do they seem to really even care. My wife has given them a lot of information she has been downloading from the computer. Hope this wears off soon. Every time I take one step forward, I wind up taking two steps back. Where is the help out there that we need? Since we are the minority who suffers from these drugs, doctors don't care until they have to deal with it. What is wrong with our medical society?

I have been taking singulair for about one week now. A few days ago I noticed abdominal and intestinal pain. Last night I got abdominal pain and fever. I called two doctors and they said it was probably not the singulair. But then I read their web-site for side effects. And one is possible intestinal infection with fever. I can't believe this. I don't understand why the doctors would not say anything or take you off of it. Thanks

I've been off Yasmin for 2 months now, and it's the best thing I've done!
A month after starting it I started having sharp pains in the lower left side of my stomach, excessive bloating and constipation at least once a month, severely enough to make me short of breath, light-headed and I could not work. I saw doctors, did all kinds of tests for viral infections, but nothing was wrong with me. Saw a gastrointerologist who sent me for ultrasound and x-rays, still nothing. He said if it continued to come back and we'd do a colonoscopy. I'm 34 yrs old. Luckily after my last appointment a friend told me she had similar problems and changed BCP and it go better. I hadn't made the link between Yasmin and the pains but when I realised the problem started a month after switching to Yasmin, I switched back to Alesse. No stomach pains since. Unbelievable!

I am so glad that I stumbled on this page so I can warn others so they won't have to go through what I am going through. I began using NuvaRing in August 2007 because I couldn't remember to always take my pill at night. I noticed a change in my mood, I was having major mood swings which was affecting my home life and my work life (I teach middle school), I was having headaches that would last for days. Also, I began having nausea and a stabbing pain in my right side just under my ribs. I went back to my family doctor (who by the way suggested the ring because that is what she is on) and she set me up for gall bladder tests. I went through 2 inconclusive tests on my gall bladder and was still having pain and nausea. I was then sent to a gastroenterologist for stomach issues. I have had an upper GI, CT scan and MRI. The tests showed that the root of my problem was a tumor on my liver. I am now awaiting an appointment with a specialist to discuss the removal of the tumor or what I can do for it. The ring was the cause of the tumor. I am 29 years old and have always been active, working out, I have 2 small children whom I play with often, I used to play bass guitar at my church but I had to stop that because I was too tired to go to practice! The tumors are very fragile and can burst to cause internal bleeding which can be fatal! PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE DO NOT START THE RING OR TAKE IT OUT TODAY!!!! There is nothing worse than looking at your children and your husband thinking that you could have internal bleeding that could kill you and you would never be able to see them again because you just didn't want to get pregnant! I didn't read the pamphlet that came with it, I just trusted it because that was what my doctor used. This "rare" incident that happens to like one in a million has happened to me! I took it out the 30th of Dec and have had much more energy and felt better about myself. That doesn't change the fact that I have this tumor that I have to deal with now. I was only on it for 4 months!! Be careful

For optic neuritis, and arm and shoulder pain: I had a combo of 3 days of Solu-Medrol infusion (steroid via IV) and then went on the following regimen of Prednisone: 5 days 60 mg; 3 days 40 mg; 2 days 20 mg.
Side effects have been terrible with the WORSE CASE OF FACIAL ACNE I have ever had. I'm 28 - I have my 10th high school reunion, weddings, and more -- and it may sound vain, but if you saw this acne (hundreds of tiny pimples all over my cheeks; sides; chin; and upper neck) you'd feel my pain. Also, got shoulder, arm, back, and chest acne -- which I can take b/c I can find ways to cover that up. But face! It's terrible. I'm using Pro-Activ and see minimal improvement. The #2 problem has been SEVERE heartburn during the tapering off phase. I have never felt that much pain and it only went away after I completely went off the drug - I treated this with ginger drink (a hot tea sold in international food stores) and Pepcid AC. Also, due to my original symptoms I can do virtually no exercise when I used to exercise 6 days/week. I'm really worried about weight gain which I already see in my arms and face. My appetite has been through the roof. Irritability was the worst but I forewarned my family. My original symptoms have greatly improved, but I'd honestly rather fight through that original pain than endure the craziness that is prednisone.

Thanks everyone, this site has been so helpful to me.
I didn't make the connection with my side effects and Yasmin. I attributed all of them to something else. I have had anxiety, severe stomach pain, bloating (like I was pregnant), bad indigestion and horrible gas (yuck), my breasts are bigger and sore all the time, no matter what I do I can't seem to drop this extra 5 pounds (I eat very healthy and work out 5-6 times a week), my chin breaks out constantly (although other areas have cleared up), and oddly the area above my lip has darkened (even though I get my lip waxed regularly and have light hair). I had my first yeast infection in my life on Yasmin, which I've been taking for 4 months.

I found a reason for all of these things until my stomach started cramping and bloating so bad (in addition to the gas...constantly), that I was in tears. I called my mom (a nurse practioner) and she suggested it might be the Yasmin. Then I found this website and am not going to take another pill. Thank goodness, I found this out. My gyno said to make an appointment with the gastrointerologist and that it might be an ulcer or IBS. I can't wait to be normal again.
