Oh my gawd!!!! I feel like a weight is being lifted off me as I write this!! While I have been keeping my emotions in check on the outside, inside I have committed murders for no reason, and it's been making me even crazier than I have become!! I have been telling my husband for months that I think it is perimenopause (even though he didn't know that anything was wrong - (I think an Academy Award is in order) ...even asked a new doctor to do some blood tests but she was useless. After watching the last couple Oprah's about hormones, I decided to Google some stuff tonight. And there popped up posts about the Mirena. Reading for hours and hours, I have been close to tears realizing that getting this thing out of me (after almost 5 years) is definitely the first place to start. I am 41 and know that, with age, comes some weight gain and the like. But this gut on me is ridiculous!!! Leg cramps, skin issues, mood swings, insomnia...the list goes on and on. The only positive in all of it is that I haven't had a period in almost 5 years. But let me tell you that tampons are starting to look really good right now. I'm making an appointment tomorrow and will post again in the near future to update. Will also be checking back for more great updates from you all! Thanks for the light bulb! x' & oh's

First off, your OBGYN is a moron if they told you it only takes a month to adjust to the pill. It is more common for the body to regulate to the pill at a minimum of 2 months and 3 months is not uncommon. So it can easily take 3 months for your body to adjust to your pill. And sometimes longer if you were on another pill and switched to another OC.

Amenorrhea(no Period) can happen on Loestrin 24. Notice the first for letters of amenorrea are AMEN. Is that a bad thing? To put this in the most basic lay terms....Birth Control tricks your body into thinking its pregnant. Thats it!!! Do pregnant women have periods? ..Of course not.

Regarding your lack of sex drive comment...that is ridiculous. The progestin in Loestrin 24 is norethindrone acetate. That is androgenic...it is one of the few pills that increases your sex drive.

I suggest if you want a pill that lowers your sex drive try yaz or Yasmin. It is anti-androgenic and lowers sex drive. It also is the ONLY pill that has extra warnings by the FDA for hyperkalimia. ...basically extra dangers if you take it my Advil, Tylenol or ANY NSAID. REMEMBER THIS PILL HAS only been around for 10 years and has been tied to several deaths in Europe. Google search yaz or Yasmin +death.

Loestrin has been around for 45 years. tried and true.

ALSO if anyone is a smoker and takes birth control you are guaranteed to have Bleeding and spotting.

I had mirena placed in may08. Things went relatively well. However, I have had lots of cramping and low back pain. I have NO sex drive!! I have spotting for weeks at a time. I have lots of burning, here and there, when I pee, and lots of cramping after. I've been losing lots of hair. Recently, I've started having lots of clear, gooey discharge. And frequent bouts of nausea. And when I do have sex, OH MY GAWD!!! The pain after is unbearable. Often I get so much stomach and back pain, I vomit. This is not something for me.
