I put a post on 12/31 with my concerns. Well I decided to play it safe and remove my Mirena. It was one week as of Friday. I didn't hurt too bad, a pinch and some cramping afterward. But I took a Tylenol beforehand. I still feel most of the side effects as before (anxiety, insomnia etc.) the only one is the constant flush feeling. My period was a little heavy the second day but I was due for my period anyway. I am barely spotting now. I'm sure it will take awhile for my body to get back to normal again, since I had the IUD inserted 4 weeks after my son was born (7/2/6). So my body hasn't had a normal menstrual cycle in years (birth control before my son, and I didn't like how that made me feel . I read that the hormone from Mirena doesn't get out of your system for about 20 days. I am looking forward to feeling good again. My body apparently doesn't like anything foreign in it, so no birth control pills for me or any hormone releasing mechanism (even though getting your period normally STINKS) I'll just do the old fashion way. Thanks for sharing your stories, it did help. Take care

I posted on here last week about my experiences. I thought I'd give a little update. I was supposed to get it out yesterday, however my stupid insurance requires that the doctor give a written request after I've had a pap before they'll "allow" it to be removed. When the nurse first told me this I was furious! I thought it was going to be hard enough to convince my doctor, and now we've got to convince my insurance. However, since I've had it inserted, I have moved to another state. That meant I was at a brand new doctor yesterday and didn't know what to expect. As she walked in the room, she was reading my chart and was asking about my periods. When I told her I didn't have any while on Mirena until two weeks ago, she became VERY concerned. She said that is not normal, and you should be getting your period, even if you have an IUD. She asked if I was having any other symptoms, and I said the most obvious one was my weight gain. I have gained, I learned after being weighed yesterday, almost 45 lbs in the last 6 months. She stopped what she was doing and looked me square in the eye and said "That is NOT normal! Have you ever gained that much before?" I told her no, never that much in that short period of time. That was all the information she needed to decide I needed this thing out immediately. She quickly did my pap and explained to me that with Mirena, it gives off different hormones than the pill. That is why when people have problems with the pill, they usually suggest trying Mirena. However, there are people who react badly to this different hormone. And the first obvious sign is when you don't get your period, especially several months in a row. She couldn't believe this was not explained to me and gave me the impression that she does not regularly recommend Mirena to her patients. (A stark contrast to my previous doctor who could not stop talking about how wonderful Mirena is and that "all" her patients love it). While I was getting dressed, the doctor went to the front desk and filled out the necessary paperwork to get this taken out. She also told me to make an appointment to have it taken out - which is Jan 8. What doctor takes the time to do paperwork right then and there?! I was very happy that she was taking me seriously, but it also concerned me that she was so worried about me getting it out too. I just don't understand how two doctors within the same field can have such vastly different reactions! She also told me that after I get it taken out I need to have blood work done about a month later to make sure my hormones are going back to normal, because if not, there may be other things wrong. (How scary is that?! Mirena may have caused other, more permanent problems!) Now I'm just hoping the paperwork goes through and I can actually get it out on January 8!

Hi, I've just had my Mirena taken out ( thank Heavens) and can now get my life back. The only good thing was no periods for five years. The hormones gradually ran through my system and all the side effects crept up on me.
My allergies got MUCH worse.
My skin thinned.
I felt three thousand years old , ALL the time.
It stripped a goodly amount of calcium from my body, my teeth started crumbling.
( after two months post removal, my bone and teeth density has improved out the site! WITHOUT supplements My dentist and doctor are now a lot happier)
I had NO sex drive at all.
My weight crept up with NO lifestyle change, 30 kilos! - I have lost on average half a kilo a week since removal. NO diet change, NO activity change.
I've always had slight hormonal acne on my face and nowhere else... with Mirena I had it all up my formerly crystal clear back and diarriere, bust and even scalp.
Lots of other minor crap.
Please, if you have sensitivities to the pill and other hormone treatments, DO NOT go here. I thought I was just aging rapidly- bull dust! I'm just glad that my husband gave me all the support I needed to bring this tragedy to my doctor and Gynie's attention. For so, long I thought it was just me.
Now I'm having my tubes clipped. Hormonal interference just doesn't work for me

Okay after reading everyone's posts, I want to cry ha ha. I have just completed my first month of Loestrin24fe- I still haven't gotten my period- tomorrow will be a week. I feel like I have the symptoms- it's just not there. I expected this to happen since my body is confused with the change, however now I am nervous that I will not get it at all this cycle and it will just skip to the next. I was previously on Ortho Tri -cyclen Lo. I was nauseous a lot, the occasional migraine, my sex drive was not great, and I had some mood swing/depression problems. I went on Lexapro for that- decided to drop it since I became nauseous with that almost an hour after I took it each time and my sex drive became even worse. Doing that I thought my symptoms would go away. I still had nausea, still no sex drive, developed weird skin patch ( dermatologist said it was eczema, but very suspicious that it all happened around same time). Since my symptoms still existed I thought it was my birth control pill. That's why I switched to Loestrin....I'm still emotional, esp near my period, but I'm a girl, I expect that. What I am worried about, and from what I have read through these posts- is that the side effects you each describe are pretty much daily side effects for me and I might not catch it as something that I should be worried about. Is it also true also that this pill makes you gain more than others? On my previous pill, I didn't gain weight and I don't plan on exercising bc of this one. I know pills affect everyone differently, and I wonder if i go on another message board for another pill I will see the same responses.....I just want to hear from someone with a positive take on this pill. Telling me that you are fine, you just have to exercise and not drink, have no sex drive and deal with not getting your period sometimes, does not make me feel better.
Also, the past two times I have drank alcohol on this pill, I became extremely nauseous the next day. Normally this would be contributed to a hangover- but I didn't drink the amount that would cause one, compared to my past drinking experiences. The nausea sometimes results in vomit, otherwise it just lasts all day. I was wondering if anyone had this happen to them while they drank on the pill.

I have now finished my fourth month on Loestrin 24Fe. Still no period. Prior to being on it, I was on Seasonale--now, sure it's great not getting your period for 3 months, but that is another side effect page! Since switching to LoE24, for the first 2 months I had CRAZY mood swings and 6 out of the 8 signs of peri-menopause (I'm only 37). I did find out that Seasonale has a higher dosage of hormones and LoE 24 has less.
When I first switched, I LOVED the Loestrin--it made me feel so much more alive and like me again from the Seasonale. After two weeks, I started the "yogurt-like" discharge that went on for two months--no, not a yeast infection or anything, just weird hormonal stuff according to my doctor. After the two months, the discharge and the major mood swings went away all of a sudden, I was just fine one day and those symptoms have gone. Still, no period...it's been four months and 6 pregnancy tests. Now, I'm still a little moody but I'm not sure if it is pill related or frustration at not knowing what is wrong.
A girlfriend of mine loved this pill, so I guess everyone is different.
