I am a 34 year old woman in Texas. My daughter got sick at School and so it spread and we all got it.I have a problem with my spit glands backing up.I don't know the medical term, anyway.I went to my ear nose and throat specialist and he said I had fluid in my ears and had a bad sinus infection so he prescribed me Avelox. This is my fourth day on it.I have noticed every since I started taking it I have a nasty taste in my mouth. My mouth is dry most of the time. But it seemed i felt a little better.I was on the computer talking to my Mother and BAM! Immediately my lymph nodes are very swollen,My neck, there is a huge bump on the right side of my neck,A bump where my wind pipe,I am dizzy,I was trying to write down everything and I kept misspelling everything,It feels at times I am out of my body if that makes any since,The pain is like someone beat the crap out of me and I am bruised all over randomly on different parts of my Body,I keep getting what feels like vibrations in my hands,My eyes at times feel like they are going out and in really fast,I still have extreme whizzing even after using the inhaler,When I cough you can hear stuff in there but it will not come out,I feel like I can't catch my breath,My back feels bruised at my shoulder blades..If I would have seen this site before I took Avalox I would have never taken them.
I feel like we are all just experiments to see what the drug does to different people. There's gotta be something we can do about this. This is not right. We need answers like,What are the long term effects.????
Now I am tired I feel like it has made me so tired but I am to afraid to go to sleep in fear that I won't wake up.I have 3 kids and I am not ready to die.I am suppose to be going to a pep rally tomorrow at my Kids School but instead I will have to spend my time in a Hospital. This is B.S.
I am so happy I found this web site.I thought it was just me.About a year and a half ago they found a mass in my lymph node and the doctor said after I get better he will set me up with another ct scan to see if it has gotten any bigger. It is 2 x the size since I was at the doctor's 4 days ago. This is ridiculous!
Thank You,A.

I have been taking Eltroxin for over 8 years due to treatment for Hodgkins Disease (cancer of the Lymph nodes, glands) the side effects I have noticed are headaches, blurred vision, lack of energy, sore joints especially knees, weight fluctuations, stomach cramps, heart rhythm increase, numbness in my left shoulder & arm and sometimes my little finger on my left hand is completely numb, sleep irregularity, night sweats. I cant seem to find any specialist who will listen to me. I have stopped taking them from time to time and most of the symptoms disappear but my metabolism slows down so much that I have no alternative but to resume taking them.

I went to doctor because I thought I had an ear infection. He looked at me and said I have a little fluid in my ear. He prescribed Amox. Didn't work. I then went back and he prescribed Sulfameth. I began taking two pills a day for a probable sinus infection (never had one before Im 41 yrs. old). I immediately felt like my world was crashing down on me. Im am dizzy all day, my glands are swollen and have dry mouth. I cant sleep and have nausea which is probably why Im depressed. I however continue to take this medication hoping that it will eventually work. Im on day five and feel terrible. Today I go for a CT scan of my nasal area. Pray, Ive never been so miserable in my life!

I started taking prednisone along with Cytoxan, a chemotherapy drug 15 years ago when I was diagnosed with an undifferentiated connective tissue disorder that led to symptoms like idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis. After a couple of years, the inflammation cooled off and I no longer had increasing scar tissue in my lungs (IPF is almost always terminal) so I was glad of that. However, sometime in that first year or so I developed hardish lumps under my skin and severe pain that felt like it was "under my skin" but not my muscles, as in fibromyalgia. The lumps are even more painful, and the skin feels as if someone tried to "skin" me and then just llay the skin back down.
I have had to be on timed-release morphine for years in order to function with this pain, as it is especially painful if I brush up against something or sitting or lying down pressure is intense. Also the skin on my tongue gets so tender I have to use kids' toothpaste or it burns terribly.
After 15 years some of the lumps have gone away, but I've recently had to go back on the prednisone for my lung inflammation.
The last time I got a new prescription for prednisone I read the tissue-paper printout (not the short one you get with every Rx, the one written for professionals which includes all the new data, tests, side effects, etc.) What I want to point out, as I've not read one person saying this, is that to avoid a lot of the side effects and the harm to the glands which produce our own natural steroids, is that they are now recommending that it is taken only EVERY OTHER DAY. They say there may be some slight increase in symptoms on the "off" day, but that this keeps the natural cycle in place in bodies subjected to this drug and therefore reduces symptoms.
This is what my last pulmonologist prescribed for me and so far I have had minimal side effects--no ravenous appetite and weight gain, no "moon face" and it has still helped my symptoms.
Please ask your pharmacist for the flyer that comes with the new package and read this for yourself and then take it to your doctor. It may not work for those in dire need of the prednisone but could perhaps be tapered to this once the first lethal symptoms die down. ASK YOUR DOC--I cannot believe I have not heard more about this as it's right on the flyer--but docs are so busy, it's understandable. I'm grateful my doctor is up on the new research because I don't mind taking the prednisone this time, and I used to HATE it!
Good living to all and I wish you all the healthiest life possible.

Oh my god! I am so glad I looked this up. I had been on 20 mg Lisinopril for 1 year and it was not lowering my blood pressure and I noticed I was more tired than usual and was coughing at night a little bit. I went into the doctor and he increased my dosage to 40 mg. I told him about my coughing and he said "Its probably not the Lisinopril." My blood pressure went down but my coughing has increased and my throat feels like it is closing up. I have to keep cough drops by my bed just to get through the night. I wake up every couple of hours and my nose is very stuffy. My glands are swollen and you could tell by looking at me. I have been experiencing more frequent headaches as well. Not sure if my weight gain it also a side effect but I have put on 10lbs since being on it. I decided to stop taking it yesterday and today my throat feels a little better and I can swallow easier. I am going in on Monday to get a different drug, hopefully one without all these side effects.

My daughter had her 3rd Gardasil shot in the beginning of November 08.
About 2 weeks later her glands in her neck started to swell. I took her to my ENT who did a mono test, which turned out negative. However her glands were still very swollen, one was so big it had to be surgically removed. The doctor thought she had Hodgkins, thankfully it was also negative. OK now what? After more blood test were taken she was diagnosed with Epstein Barr Virus, a form of Mono. Like so many other posters she was a very healthy active girl prior to the Gardasil shot. Since the 3rd shot she has had 2 UTI's, is unable to sleep at night and has frequent headaches.
I am another one of those mothers who regret having my daughter get these shots. I didn't do my homework. Now I can only pray that she does not have any further complications. After reading the post on this, I wouldn't recommend getting these shots.

To the best of my knowledge I never had any of the 'immediate' symptoms.
My problems are probably due to the fact that I was prescribed Cipro 3 possibly 4 times from Aug 06 - Dec 07 and then finished up Dec 07 with a round of Levaquin. My father is over 60 and was recently given Levaquin and had immediate and serious problems. He is seeing a doctor recommended by the CDC today. Yes, he is even working with the CDC on
this one. Due to all he is being told he is convinced that the medication is behind my medical decline as well. Since taking these medications (symptoms started slowly in 07), but after taking the Levaquin at Christmas time I never got up from the couch. My thyroid gland has quit working, my adrenals are shot, I have been diagnosed with fibromyalgia, chronic fatigue, blew out 3 disks in my back, vision is deteriorating rapidly, and really so many things I can't list them all. I had a complete physical
in Oct 05 and was given a perfect bill of health. Through Aug 06 I was riding my bicycle 33 miles per week. I'm still trying to figure out what hit me??
What my father has been told is that in some individuals Levaquin will attack the glands (like the thyroid) and will compromise the immune system. This damage appears to be permanent. All I know is that I went from being extremely healthy to terribly sick. If in a day's time I have enough energy to load and unload the dishwasher it is a banner day. I can
not work and seem to get worse instead of better as each day passes.

My husband also had pneumonia at Christmas and took Levaquin but does not seem to have had an problems. I suspect it was possibly the cumulative effect of having basically 4-5 rounds of the antibiotic in a years time. According to the people at the CDC that have spoken to my father the symptoms that I have can all be traced back to the medication. One never knows what effect a medication will have. Just please be careful when taking this medication, and limit how many times you take it.

Been on a 7 day 100mg course for sinus infection. Ive felt dizziness, headaches, nausea, tingling in my arms and legs, heartburn, stomach cramps and my throat and glands swollen up. Also Ive been left with no energy and sleeping for 12 hours a night. As soon as I got in from work I was going straght to bed! Couldn't even be bothered getting a shower. Which is very unlike me as Im very active normally. My course finished 2 days ago and my heartburn remains as well as the headaches. And my sinus problem has not gone. This was not worth it! Never again!

I took this medication for 7 days two tablets each day for UTI. After the first day I became extremely tired, I couldn't do anything, and I had a very bad headache. Then my muscles started to ache, and then the glands around my neck started to hurt. Then I had panics on some nights and night sweats. Now after a week and a half I still have the neck pain, and some pain in my muscles in my legs and hands.
Does any one know how long this is going to last?

I was diagnosed with severe sinusitis a week ago, and my doctor prescribed omnicef for me since I was allergic to PENICILLIN. After the first day on Omnicef, I felt fine, perhaps a little better. As days continued to pass, however, I began to get some horrible reactions. They started out mild, and now (after taking it for the seventh day) I have major tongue and gland swelling in addition to a horrible headache and weakness. I've felt close to fainting several times throughout the past several days. I went through a random bout of depression a couple days ago, too, and there was no reason why. I feel more irritable, but I've been attempting to control it. I haven't lashed out wrongly at my loved ones yet, but I've come pretty close. I have some pain in my lower abdomen (where the intestines are located) as well, but only when I walk in a quick manner. No diarrhea, yet, but I think that's because I normally have digestion problems (constipation). Some of the joints in my hands are acting funny. They aren't as strong as usual, and they've been going numb/cold more often, causing their movements to be a little slower/stalled.

I'm seventeen, and when my mom contacted the doctor yesterday, the doctor said that "these aren't allergies/side effects" of this medication, and that I need to continue taking them. So I took them again yesterday (the seventh day), and that's when the swelling of the tongue and glands in my throat took place. When my mom called today and notified the doctor of that issue, the doctor said that..oh, how was that worded... That "it's the first time I've had this reaction" (while on this medication), and that it isn't caused by that medication but from something else. I'm sorry, but I'm not taking any other medications, and I haven't eaten anything strange/new that would cause me these difficulties. It's definitely the medication.

I'm done with this medication. After doing research on it this morning, I've learned that at least ten percent of those allergic to penicillin is also allergic to omnicef, and I'm allergic to penicillin. Why my doctor is being so stubborn about these reactions, I don't know. I guess this is just an example of a doctor who isn't well-educated and sticks ONLY to the side-effects/allergic reactions listed on the prescription bottle. If problems persist, my mom will take me to another doctor. For now, I'm going to stick to the Neti pod and nasal spray to try to rid me of my sinusitis. Maybe it'll work out alright and my problems from this medication will go away quickly. I'm sick of being sick all summer.

I had a really bad case of strep throat because I thought it was a cold or flu and didn't go to the doctor for 12 days...but then I finally went because my throat hurt so bad and my glands were so swollen. I don't have insurance and maybe that's why the doctor gave me ten free samples of avelox right off the bat instead of just prescribing penicillin. I took the first dose and I would say my sore throat and swelling were 80% gone within the FIRST THIRTY MINUTES. So, definitely this is a very strong antibiotic compared to the Z-pak (zithromax) I've taken for bronchitis before. It's now day 4 and I have to say I am reluctant to take it for 10 days!! I haven't had any severe reactions, just bloating, diarrhea, dizziness, and some tiredness. And pretty strong nausea for the first hour, so I have been pushing the dose time from 9am to gradually later at night where I am not so sensitive. I am 33yrs old, healthy and eat well usually so I think my strong constitution has kept me from some of the more severe reactions I see above. HOWEVER, I do feel that it's a bit too strong! Surely there must be some way to lower the dosage of this antibiotic? I feel that it's worked well, but it just is too much like a SLEDGEHAMMER!

The levaquin completely cured my throat, no pain, i can swallow again. But my glands are still swollen. My biggest complaint is the mouth thrush, i have sores all over my mouth, my teeth and gums ache and sometimes i wake up with blood in my mouth because my gums are so sensitive. I finished the 5 day 750 mg yesterday for horrific case of strep throat. I also experienced fatigue, sensitivity to light. Now that im off the pills im interested in eating but i cant because my mouth hurts so bad. If my mouth didn't hurt i would be happy, but im wondering if it will go away now that i am done with the dose.

Severe headache, fatigue, diarrhea, and nausea, stomach pain that you wouldn't believe. I have common side-effects to most antibiotics so I wasn't worried at first but now that I have read all these posts I am getting pretty nervous. Last night I was back in the ER for the second time in three days because the lymph nodes and glands in my neck were swollen. The doctor gave me a CT scan and discovered that I had acute bilateral infections in my lymphnodes. An infection that I didn't have before I started taking the medication. This drug is horrible and I don't recommend it to anyone.

I was prescribed the generic for Bactrim for the last ten days for cellulites around a bug bite.........fortunately, i did not have as many of the horrible side effects reported by some, but i realize now that about 7 days into taking it i started to develop a small lump on back of my neck, right below hairline, tender to the touch, now after i have finished day 10, i have two more bumps.....i freaked out, but now after reading some of these posts, it seems it might just be a common side effect with this medication for some.........guess they're just swollen glands.......since I'm done taking already, i guess there's not much to do but to wait for the glands to return to normal!! thanks for the posts, it helps to validate my experience!!

OMG!!! I am so glad to have found this site... I've had mine in since April 2006 and I never once thought that all of these things could be side effects. I have EVERY symptom listed on here and I actually thought I was crazy at one point. I always tried to just "deal" with it and ignore everything I was feeling. I felt as if something was medically wrong with me b/c of the severe dizziness, headaches, bloating, neck, back and shoulder pain- the list goes on.... I was wondering, has anyone experienced tenderness of the glands on your neck and under arms?? I'm sure it's just another lovely Mirena side effect...
I'm making an appointment first thing tomorrow to have it removed ASAP.
Wishing all of you ladies the best!

I have been having upper respiratory and sinus problems over the past few months and it all seems to line up with starting the Ring. The first month was alright and since then I have had this series of severe cold symptoms, my glands are swollen and I'm coughing all the time, I'm weak and run down. I was put on an antibiotic and that was during my off week. I was better by the end of the week and put the ring back in on Friday- started getting sick on Saturday and worse Sunday-Tuesday. I did take the ring out on Sunday, but my doctors seem to think it's just a bad cold season. However, I look at the package insert and see that Upper Respiratory Tract Infection and Sinusitis are listed as side effects. How would they be listed if there weren't other people suffering from this too?!? After finding this site and reading about other side effects, I'm taking a break from birth control pills/meds. I feel like I don't understand my body at all and I need to take back control from the doctors and their magic medicines.

I have a sinus infection, and my doc gave me biaxin. My first dose didn't affect me, I went to bed as soon as I got home from the urgent care center, I slept well into the afternoon. When it came time to rest, I went to bed at midnight, laid there restlessly, with a very sore throat even more sore than I began with. I grabbed a throat lozenge, fell asleep for 30-45 min, weird dream but I can't remember it well. I woke up with a sore dry throat again, not even tired, frustrated, I decided to take my meds again, not having checked this website first!!! D: now my heart is racing, I'm wide awake, its 4:45 in the morning. I am crying on and off. The pain in my throat has subsided, its still scratchy, and my lymph nodes are very swollen. I can't breathe through my nose and it feels like there is still drainage in the back of my throat. I have no appetite either, I force my self to eat b/c I get stomach pains. I am wondering if I should hold off the biaxin for a couple of days and see if I improve.. because I feel like I'm simply getting worse.

okay i am not usually one to post on the internet but I HAVE NEVER BEEN SO HAPPY TO FIND A WEBSITE BEFORE IN MY LIFE!!!!! :-) I seriously think Yasmin is the worst thing that ever happened to me...but I just put it all together right now! Thank you everyone for posting! Let me start out by saying i am NORMAL haha! I am a full time college student, athlete, employee, active family member, and I have always been the happiest, most light hearted person of all time! I have always loved every moment of my life...and was always easily able to cope with and learn from the tough times....UNTIL THE PAST SIXTH MONTHS!!!! i have been on yasmin for about a year and a half and starting about six months ago i have: A) dropped 17 pounds (despite eating everything in sight) and my parents/friends/boyfriend are freaking out with worry and i want to cry because i eat SO much! B) have these weird panic attacks like all my clothes (sweatpants, tshirts too!) feel tight and like they are choking me. I also think I have cancer like a thousand times a day (even though I am perfectly healthy...believe me i have been to every doctor (including my psychologist) in the last six months to check these new symptoms out). I am paranoid about stupid things, like if I will get in a car accident even if I am just driving a few blocks C) my heart beats very quickly, double beats, etc even when i am just resting....not working out, walking up the stairs, rushing around etc D) I can barely sleep at all, and even if i sleep for 12 hours i wake up exhausted E) I snap at all my friends F) Although I have been an athlete my entire life, my workouts and performance have been decreasing consistently. G) My glands are swollen often (yes I got an HIV test....and it was negative) and finally I) I freak out and cry about everything my boyfriend does...and he is the greatest guy in the world! So nice! Our relationship has always been great and he is super supportive! But in these last few months I cry and scream and get frustrated/angry/annoyed with him (and everyone) at the drop of a hat.BUT somehow I feel no emotion 99% of the day then when I am with him I become so awful! How is that possible? I HAVE BEEN SO SAD! and he keeps asking me what is wrong and doubting HIMSELF....omg i cant believe this Yasmin sight...i just showed it to him and it is like a huge weight has been lifted off both our shoulders! I am not a doctor and this IS just a blog I suppose....however I plan on talking to my GYN about this as soon as possible! These symptoms seem to match up with the other posts way too much to be just a coincidence......THANK YOU EVERYONE!!!

I have been taking Femcon for almost 2 months, I have decided to spot taking it. I have felt very tried, depressed, chest pain, my extremities tingle and I’m irritable. Also have felt nauseous, a lot of cramping, bloating and a very bad yeast infection. Even sores on my tongue which I have never had before. The only good things about this pill are that my sex drive has increased and I had a light regular period with no bleeding in-between for me.

I started taking Advair 500/50 about 3 years ago in October. In October of 2004 I was about a size 9/10 and in the past years I am over 200lbs and wearing a size 16. I know that weight gain is normal with getting older but my diet plan would allow me to gain almost 55lbs in 3 years. On top of the weight gain I almost always get a sore throat and im always coughing up something. (Gross I know) MY moods are so wack..I have the weridest moodswings. I came by this website trying to find answers to why I couldnt loose all this weight and now I think that I have the answer. I have decieded to gradually take myself off Advair.

I take 5 mcg of cytomel a day. I have symptons like "hayfever". Sneezing, runny nose, sinus drainage, my eyes are sometimes itchy, burning, watery. The glands around my neck swell a little, my jaws hurt, and the inside of my ears itch. The PA in my doctors office said to contiue to try and take it for 2 weeks to see if the symptons ease off. I have started taking cytomel 3 different times and stopped because of the above symptons. I just can't see being this miserable for 2 weeks. I also take 150 mcg of syntroid once a day. I had diagnosed with graves disease in 1994 they gave me radiactive iodine to stop my thyroid from functioning.
