I was originally put on Yasmin because of my PCOS (polycystic ovarian syndrome). I was taking it for about 2-3 years and just stopped about a month and 1/2 ago and I am experiencing horrific headaches. They are sudden and on the left side behind my eye. There is no warning. They are like migraines but they are piercing pain not throbbing. Could the cessation of taking Yasmin be the cause? I hurt almost daily and I'm so sick of it. Also I haven't had a period yet.

Hello. I started taking lisinopril 20 mg about 1.5 months ago because of hbp and I also started taking toprol for rapid heart beat 1/2 a month before that. Although it did lower my hbp it made me feel lousy. I started getting anxiety all the time, aches in my body (stomach etc), nausea, dizziness, spaced out, and numbness in my hands. My father passed away about 2.5 months ago and so I figured that the anxiety was something normal given the circumstances. I thought that the other side effects were part of the anxiety. I felt as thought I was going to go crazy or die. I also started to become a hypocondriac thinking that if I had a pain in my stomach it might be stomach cancer etc. It was not until I found this site that I see that lisinopril and/or the toprol might be the thing that is causing me to feel lousy. I was always healthy and I never had anxiety. I understand that I shoud feel a little anxiety and sadness because of my father, but I don't feel a little anxiety, I get intense panic attacks. I feel as thought I can't get back to normal, I just feel as though I'm not myself. I want to stop this meds as soon as possible before I, too, get worse side effects. Please let me know if you all think that it is the medications or is this just part of the griving process. All I know is that I started taking this pills and all this started to happen.

The cough from Lisinopril is from the ACE inhibitor (drug classification not isolated to just Lisinopril), one of the main side effects of almost any ACE inhibitor is a persistent dry cough...do not stop blood pressure medications without discussing with your doctor. There are many other blood pressure medication which are not ACE inhibitors and will not cause coughing, but will control you blood pressure....ask you doctor to try a Angiotension receptor blocker or BETA blocker I've been there I thought I would go crazy from the cough I experienced!!!. I was on Avapro...it worked great for me, but when my insurance wouldn't cover that paricular medication I was switched to DIiovan, and it work well also without side effects!!! I hope this helps somone!

I started Yasmin three years ago. It was great, lighter periods, fewer cramps, less acne. About a year ago, I noticed my left arm would kind of be numb. Then two months ago, I started getting light-headed and dizzy. I went to the emergency room, they couldn't find anything wrong. They said I had a panic attack, but I knew that it wasn't that. I'm a very calm, happy person. I went to a doctor, said I had fluid in my ear, prescribed Antivert, didn't help. Went to another doctor, did an ecg, glucose test, nothing. Said I should go to a neurologist. I didn't because I don't have insurance and I suspected that it was probably the Yasmin. In fact, I asked each doctor if it could be the pill, since this was the only thing I was taking and they said no. Went to an ENT, found nothing. Finally, I just decided to go off the pill, got better, but still having dizzy spells and migraines. It's driving me crazy. Missing work, social engagements. I had the brown spots and vaginal discharge. That I could deal with, but this is ridiculous!

This is just my first month using NuvaRing. So far so good. I've not had any major noticable symptoms and if anything my regular monthly mood swings (two weeks before my period) have dropped from 5 days to 2. My boyfriend really appreciates that.
I have noticed a few skin irritations, they look like bug bites and come up rather quickly and disappear just as fast. Slightly painful but not something that I can't live with.

Weight gain, short term memory loss, not focusing when driving, depression, weird dreams, low sex drive, no drive at all.

I should have added something to my post about fluids (see below). Please don't go crazy with the water. Two to three eight ounce glasses per day over your normal consumption should give you the maximum benefit.

Believe it or not, even excessive water can create problems. So just add this reasonable amount to your intake for a few days and see how you feel.

update....
i have begun to ween myself off topamax as of last week. i was taking 75 mg a day, now i'm down to 25 mg a day. i have noticed a HUGE change..i am pretty much BACK TO MY NORMAL SELF...i will continue until i am OFF THIS MEDICATION.
my depression has ceased, my fits of rage, GONE. i no longer have anger fits towards my poor husband (i feel so horrible for the way i had been acting towards him because of this medicine), and the whole sex drive issue, completely back to normal again (THANK GOD...my husband was about to go crazy..as was I! lol)
i am making an appointment with my doctor next week to see about another preventive, but until then, i have to keep a few hydrocodones on hand in case i get a migraine (and it's a definite that i will...). Hydrocodones are the only thing that get rid of my migraines...the Relpax and such make me feel like i'm about to have a heart attack and really dont relieve my migraines.
I just hope i can find a preventive that will work...WITHOUT these side effects (depression, etc). My migraines are so frequent that it is a must that i find some sort of preventive.
Best of luck to you all out there that are either still on this med, or getting off this med. i recommend the latter of the two.

hi claudia (hope)
i know exactly what you are going through,i have been there myself (as have many many women on this site) i suffered extreme anxiety/panic attacks, they were by far some of the worst symptoms i had while taking this pill as i felt i was going mad or had some kind of mental illness,i really thought my life as i knew it was over,i am 32 years old with 2 young children but i felt that bad i didn't think i wanted to carry on...then i found this site and came across so many women in this same situation and it saved me. i have been off yasmin for 4 months now and my anxiety levels are way way way down,it is now mainly in the background and is a memory rather than a constant feeling of fear. the practical things you can do are...take a B vitamin complex, vitamin B6, a magnesium supplement and maybe a little zinc too. take really good care of yourself with regards to what you eat and how much excercise you do.drink plenty of water and i mean plenty as it is great for anxiety and great for cleansing the body of these hormones. on a mental level try to remember that these feelings are not REAL fear as there is nothing to be afraid of it is just a chemically induced mood, panic attacks although scary will never actually hurt you even though they feel like you are going to die or go crazy. stay positive ( i know, easier said than done!) and face your fear head on,i know it sounds crazy but by taking control you will begin to feel stronger and more able to cope. it WILL get better but it will take some time for your body to get back into it's natural harmony, have faith that it will get better and please please listen when i say you are NOT crazy it is this horrible pill. i started to feel better after the first couple of months with regards to the anxiety and i hope you will too.i still have hormone problems and symptoms but the panic feelings are virtually nil. try the supplements i mentioned and try to reduce your stress levels too. i wish you all the best and hope that this has been of some help to you

I have been on Toprol XL (25 mg/daily) for 6 months (F/41). I was really glad to come across this message board in a frantic search of "weight gain with Toprol XL". Have gained 10 pounds in these 6 months and for the life of me I cannot get any weight off, my body is just stuck where it is at. My problem is I have to lose weight since I am overweight about 40 pounds right now so this is so frustrating to me. At least I am not alone, thanks for posting your problems also with weight gain. I take Toprol for my fast beating heart, was having bad palps last January. Toprol does work well in keeping my B/P down (tends to be just a bit high) and the palps are non existent for me on this drug. I do have swollen ankles (at night) ok in the mornings. But the weight gain is really making me go crazy especially when I need to lose weight. This just isn't going to work so this morning I am cutting that pill in half and getting the heck off of it. I do find that if I stay away from sugar/caffeine my palps really don't bother me nearly as much. I went on it because the job I had was very stressful and brought back my palps again after not having them (as bad) for several years. I just hate those "fluttering" heart beats, they are hard to deal with and Toprol takes them away and keeps me "calmer" so I will miss Toprol for those effects, but not the weight gain! Thank you for this message board, it's been so helpful.

A little over a year ago, I had muratic acid pured on both of my bare feet, causing 2nd and 3rd dagree burns over 75% of my feet. This has caused irreverseable nerve damage, and poor blood circulation, and keeps me in pain 24/7. My doctor prescribed 25mg Amitriptyline, and said it would help with both the pain, and the sleep. Before that they had me on Neurontin, Hydrocodone, and Ultram (which does nothing for any type of pain, regardless of how minor). As far as the pain goes, it does help a little, but as for the sleep, it does not make me sleepy what so ever. Instead, it makes me feel wired out, like I got to be constantly doing something or I will go crazy, which is hard to do when standing and walking are both very painful. Has anyone else had this side effect from Amitriptyline?

Hey abs,

I KNOW it's not just you!!! Believe me!!! Your last post could have been written by me about 10 to 11 months ago!! I felt the same weird things without knowing how to go on any longer... There were days, where I really thought I'd go crazy with all that strange thoughts and fears and I also had doubts every day, if it's really all caused by Yasmin or if it's just me. And a few days I really thought it was just me. But now I know IT WASN'T just me!!!

And one thing I also remember is, that the only thing, which helped me through those hard days was reading the posts on this site or post here by myself. Without the help of those ladies here I wouldn't have gotten where I'm now, I swear!! They always kept telling me, that it WILL get better and all I need is TIME and PATIENCE. And they were so right!!!

So please, don't loose your faith (I know that might seem very hard in the situation you are now in!!!) and chin up!! I know you have the strength to get through this and become the person you have been before that Yasmin nightmare!!

Big hugs and god's bless!!

Silke

OK, 4 days off of Yasmin and the rash all over my body is gone. The shortness in breathe has also seemed to fade. I go to my gyno tomorrow to see what he can put me on now that the Yasmin was the devil. I dont know about you guys but i had lots of luck on Ortho-Tri Cylene Lo. I hope he puts me back on that. I will NEVER take Yasmin again. I stayed sick and bothered on Yasmin. It made my body go crazy. Thanks for all the help on this site it opened up my eyes alot and made me realize these things happening to me weren't a coinsidence.

You guys have got me so scared. I am literally about to cry. I am getting married in July, and started taking Yasmin a week ago. I am not sexaully active and my periods have always been very REGULAR. I never have missed one or skipped a beat. I am so worried that Yasmin is going to make me go crazy or cause me pain. I have been fine for the most part, but I'm scared for the future. Approx how long did it take for these horrible side effects to occur?

I loved this drug after I had knee surgery, I was of course kidding myself because I was delusional. I was so high all the time I to this day do not remember too much of what I did. The high is not worth the low ladies and gentlemen. I thought everything was fine and I was very happy until I almost burned the house down because I did not care what happened to me or anyone else as long as I had this drug. I would stay up late at night every night and do things I had never done, like watch tv until the wee hours. This is a very addictive drug, stay away from it because when you have to stop taking it you almost go crazy. It is dangerous and should have a scull and crossbones on the side of the bottle.

I took Bactrim for a urinary tract infection. After I had taken the Bactrim for two days I started having really bad hot flashes. Never have had them before. I was burning up constantly, all day. Sweating on my face and chest. Slight nausea and headaches. Some dry mouth. And just an all over feeling of being tired and not feeling well. I haven't read any postings yet about people feeling hot or running fever, but I really think this is the problem. After 3 days of constantly being hot and sweating, I felt like I was about to go crazy. So I have stopped taking it today. I hope it goes away quick, but I have read it can still take a few days for it to get out of your system. Has anyone else experienced the being hot from taking Bactrim?

Hi,

I have been suffering from depression and an overactive imagination leading to panick attacks, anxiety and nervousness (i panic that i will go crazy and kill myself and not realise). I started feeling like this last may, exactly when i started with Yasmin. Having read through some of these posts, my decision last night to stop the pill finally, has given me some hope that i might start to feel better. I am going to be put on antidepressents soon, and i hope i feel better before then. The time scale of my feelings and Yasmin coincides perfectly, I hope I have found the cause of my grief.

Hi worried!!

Yes, here I am!! And I fear and am sure we both are not the only ones who are experiencing anxiety because of this wonder pill!!

I've been off Yasmin for 7 months (!) now and still have the irrational thoughts and anxiety. It has gotten a lot better than before, but it's still there!! Some days are better, some worse and every month it gets a very little step better, especially if I look back to the last few months.

Every month there was again some time, when I thought I would completely go crazy, then the better days came around again and so on. I think I can say that the feelings get worse and better through a cycle (around the middle and short before my period should start everything gets worse again --> though I didn't have a period since easter this year....!).

For me it feels as if my head has to work very hard getting back to normal feelings since I've been on Yasmin for very long 5 YEARS (!). You have to know, that Yasmin interacts your whole body, especially the metabolism and so it interacts your brain hormones (like serotonine, noradrenaline a. s. o. which are really important to feel good and have NO anxiety), too. So I think we just have to be patient and give our body and brains the time they need to find their balance again.

A few months ago I read a post from a woman who said, that she really needed a whole year after quitting Yasmin to loose the anxiety brought on by Yasmin. Well, I think every person is different and it surely also depends on how long you had been taken this Yasmin poison. In my case I fear it will take much longer to get the 100% old healthy, fit and good figured me back again...

But don't despair!! You're not alone and we will get better, I'm sure!!

Best wishes to you and a big hug to every lady recovering from Yasmin out there!! Don't give up!!

Hi! I have been on Toprol Xl for about a year and a half now and I haven't gained weight but tiredness is a big issue.... sometimes I am so tired in mid day that I feel like I am going to fall asleep right where I am at. I noticed that my BP has been low and it scares me to take toprol and then for my BP to go even lower than it already has been, but then I'm afraid not to take it and for my heart to go crazy and raise my BP sky high. My Dr. said that on toprol XL a person needs to slowly get off it. I don't know, I am confused. What should I do? Anyone?

Hi, I'm 21 and I was just diagnosed w/PSVT sudden rapid heart beats. I am on my second month of this toprol stuff and man.. it's awesome and it sucks so much at the same time. It's great because my heart would go crazy so often during the day and now it's regular almost all of the time. What sucks is that I am tired ALL of the time. I am disoriented if I'm not laying down and I'm really depressed most of the time. Anyone else?

actually my side effects for 50 mg toprol-xl are weight gain about 10 lbs, shortness of breath, mild chest pain, and slower than normal heart beat, my doctor put me on toprol because I was taking this "natural"supplement called Yohimbe that caused my thyroid to go crazy I was rushed to the ER with a 241bpm heartbeat. I will never! take a so called natural supplement again .

I am so relieved to find this site. After only one month of taking this pill, I think that I could go crazy. I have missed days of work, slept my weekend away.. been to the emergency room and to the dr. office a few times.
I actually thought that I was having some mid life crisis at 28.
I have had panic attacks, heart palpatations, severe dizziness and depression.. AFTER 1 MONTH. I had my tubes tide in July of 04 and have endometriosis and was put on Yasmine for the cramping.. which it helps, but I would rather have the cramps daily then to feel like this.
- Thank you to everyone for posting on this site!!

OMG!!! I have PCOS and my doctor suggested this "GREAT NEW B/C that really seems to help those with PCOS" I was on yasmin last spring for about 5 months...hated all the nasty side effects, racng heart, anxiety, moodiness, you name it i had it including IBS. Finally in July I couldn't take any more and quit, with out letting my dr. know, because I wasn't ready to try something else.

My husband and I liked how it helped me to loose weight and the spontanity we could have (granted with 2 little kids in the house - things aren't all that spontaneous) without having to fumble with condoms and or inserts, but the 2 little pros were not worth the way I was feeling. I hated it and it wasn't me!

Well, seeing as how I had no period in Nov. and have tested negative on 4 hpt's I figured great, my body is back to it's usual - I better get back on the pill again to try and regulate my cycle before I get more ovarian cysts. So I refilled my yasmin, figuring ok I'll give it another shot...big mistake!!!!

Today is Wednesday, I started this pack on Sunday - I have only been on the damn things for 4 days and I feel like HELL!!! I have the racing heart again, my anxiety level is way up there (my poor husband had his head bitten off last night for no reason what so ever - I'm surprised he talked to me this morning!) and to top it all off now I have the diarhea and nausea again. This is so not worth it, I can't believe that I can feel this way after only 4 days! Actually, myhusband said to me this morning, "honey I don't think you should take those pills any more - they aren't good for you and make you someone else completely."

So I called my doc. to see what my options are - I can't start on anything else until I have my annual exam on 12/15 - there is no way I'm staying on the Yasmin until I see her again!!!!

I'm throwing that pack away as soon as I'm done typing this! God I was soo stupid for thinking it would be better the second time around....I'd rather deal with my PCOS than feel like I'm feeling now.

Thanks for letting me share! Please think twice before you take Yasmin.

I have been on 60 mg of predisone for 6 weeks for sarcoidosis. I do not like the way I feel but so far I have gained no weight. My face is swelling and if it does I will go crazy. I sleep very little and cook all night long. The energy is amazing. I am in another world on this medication.
