I am 40 and have one child. I had the Mirena placed in January 2007 after having the copper IUD for 7 years prior. After the Mirena was placed I noticed my anxiety increasing significantly. I was short tempered and lacked the patience I once had. My dr. kept increasing my anxiety and depression meds. I finally got to the point of being tired of taking meds for everything and decided to get rid of the Mirena after a year. I am in the process of decreasing my anti-depressants and I have also lost weight. I started Weight Watcher's in January (2 weeks before the Mirena was removed) and since then have lost 20lbs. Now, I am still doing Weight Watcher's but got to my goal weight in 3 months and haven't counted points in over 3 months. So, I know that the Mirena was responsible for me retaining the weight. I work out 4-5 times per week and I am finally seeing some results.
I didn't have bleeding issues or sex drive issues, but definitely can tell that I feel soooo much better without that thing.

I am having my Mirena removed in 12 days! (and counting every one). I have a question for those that already had theirs removed and were troubled by weight gain while they had it: What has been your experience since its been out? Losing weight now? Staying the same? Are the weird cravings gone? Do you feel less lethargic and more motivated to exercise? I would love to hear some success stories, as my daughter is almost 16 mos. old and thanks to my Mirena, I'm now weigh about as much as I did at 7 mos. pregnant! No matter what I do, I keep gaining. I'm about 50 pounds over my (realistic, healthy) goal weight, about 25 over my pre-pregnancy weight. Anyone with some encouragement?

I have been taking prednisone for dermatomyositis for the past 4 months. I am on 30 mg a day. When I try to taper, my rash and muscle pain/weakness come back so we are trying 1mg lower every 5 days now to see what happens. Other than thirst and a rapid heartbeat if I drink cafeine during the day.....no side effects at all. I have not gained weight (but I have been on weight watchers 5 years and have maintaned my goal weight through that and as much as exericise as my disease allows) nor have I had gotten the moon face, etc. However, my best friend who is on only 20mg daily for the past 12 months is now diabetic, gained 45 pounds, got the moon face and rash. I would not know if I had the rash or not as my DM causes a very nasty rash. I know this medication has many horrible side effects and can be devastating ... but without it I would not be swollowing, teaching my special ed classes daily, hugging my grandchildren, or taking care of my own needs right now. I am 54.

WOW, I am so happy to find this site. I am a 56 yr old female. I too am on Toprol. I was on 75 mg 2 x's a day for HPB and mitral valve prolapse pain. Then yesterday the Dr. increased my dose to 100 mg 2x's a day .Today my ankles and feet blew up like balloons. I have been having profuse sweating and was cold and clammy for the past year and no Dr could tell me why!! NO sex drive , depression, sleep apnea, severe insomnia, brain fog, short term memory issues, moody, irritable, my husband has threatened to leave me. NO appetite!! Floaters in my eyes started a few months ago, I have so many symptoms that I have read in all your posts. No quality of life for the past year. I have felt like I was losing my mind, gained 35 lbs in past 2 years without changing my eating habits. I gained the weight after I had lost 50 lbs. Been on Toprol about 2 1/2 years ( I think ) Every symptom I have experienced I have read in your posts!! I have type 2 diabetes and am on glucophage, I also take 10 other scripts. I have fibromyalgia and chronic fatigue, RSD in my left arm, muscle pain and joint pain. Pain in my right upper qaudrant. Nausea/ some vomiting, NO ENERGY, Loss of interest in most of life. So now after reading all your posts I have to ask myself, are all my symptoms linked to the Toprol and not syndromes or illnesses? I am calling my doctor in the morning and getting off this med!! They will just have to put me on something else!!!
