i am 26 years old and i had my daughter 5/3/2008, at my 6 week i had mirena put in because of the wonderful idea of not having to worry about taking a pill! the day i had it put in i bled like i was on the heaviest period i've every had and i continued to bleed for the next 7 weeks. every day i would at least have one bright, red gush of blood, one day i even had cramping so bad that it felt like labor.... i had a HORRIBLE labor! this wasn't how it was supposed to be, my sister came over to watch my daughter while i curled up in ball for about 4 hours until i took my last loratab from giving birth!!!! i had a strange pain in my left leg daily that ran from my groin area to my knee, i had severe depression to the point that i stopped breast feeding, was so irritated with anything and everything and i cried every day. i hadn't done this while pregnant or the first 6 weeks at all!! i lost all of my baby weight in about 2 weeks after giving birth ( i only gained 17lbs ) but since having mirena put in i've gained at least 7 lbs back. my stomach bloated up so huge it looked like i was 4 months pregnant, even when i would shower and rubbed the soap on my my belly it was very tender to the touch. i also suffer from ibs and with mirena i have never had such horrible, horrible stomach aches and constantly going to the bathroom.needless to say i had it removed 4 weeks ago and the very same day my mood changed dramatically and the bleeding stopped. the weight isn't going anywhere though which makes me sad although i think a good, daily cardio workout will help that. i'm still losing a lot of hair, i'm a hair stylist so i know to expect some, but it's pretty extreme. my stomach is still a little bloated but it is improving and no longer hurts to the touch and the ibs has improved dramatically .... i think every woman should be well warned on what's involved with this drug, do your research. i DO NOT recommend this to anyone, it is not worth the pain and depression. having a newborn is hard enough and adding all of these side effects made me feel like my very stable, loving home and family was falling apart. DO NOT GET THIS PUT IN YOUR BODY!

I have had a wonderful experience with this medication. I have been on it for over 3 years at 75mg a day taken in the am. I have a few minor issues with going to the bathroom but by 9am I am feeling fine. I have been on many other depression meds and they all had terrible side effects, but with effexor I have had no issues. I am thankful to be on this medication and not so depressed all of the time. It also has helped with my GAD.

Hi
I just started taking 20mg of Prednisone for a shoulder injury. So far I have all but loss my appetite, which sounds strange to me since my doctor told me to expect to gain weight very quickly. I have also loss my need to sleep. I was up from Saturday 11:15 am morning the first day I began Prednisone and wasn't able to get to sleep until Sunday night around 10:00pm. I'm sweating like I'm constantly being rained on, it is so darn annoying. I also started to lose my voice last night and then again today, is that normal with is drug? I'm so full of energy all I do is clean our house, work out in my flower beds, etc. I'm kinda of scare of this drug and I'm glad I will be off of it next Tuesday unless my shoulder isn't better when I start physical therapy tomorrow. I wish you all the best while you are taking this drug.
Keep us posted on how you are doing.

Vytorin makes me urinate every 15 or 20 minutes. I haven't been able to get a good night's sleep since I started using it because I'm up every 15 or 20 minutes going to the bathroom. I know it's the vytorin because I stopped using it after a weekend I don't have to get up every 15 to 20 minutes any more to go to the bathroom.

Hi all. I would just like to agree that PredniSone sucks but it is the best out there for these diseases especially the auto-immune diseases. Drug companies do not make any money on prednisone because it is generic and there is no patent. I know I picked up 98 10mg prednisones yesterday for $5.00. Believe me when there is a better steroid that works as well and has less side effects it will be available to us all. It will cost tons but it will be sold. Researchers have been working for so many years trying to find an alternative, some have been found but do not work well enough. As bad as the prednisone makes us feel it does work on the diseases. You always have the choice to say no - that is why we should all have a health care power of attorney - just remember that when you decide not to take the prednisone you are agreeing that the disease may worsen and may be life threatening. I hate to sound so morbid but patients must be informed. When you are at the physician ask about the side effects, ask if they can give you something to counteract any mood swings, ask what lotion is best for the itchy skin (AmLactin works well for me and is over the counter). Also, my physician advised me yesterday that the side effects are worse on women due to our precarious hormones. I have told my husband to just stay out of the way and don't piss me off because I am not sure how this next 7-8 weeks is going to fare for him. I am 4ft 10in 110lbs and he is 6ft 1in 200lbs and believe me he is scared for his life. I am using prednisone for my ulcerative colitis so now that I am feeling better physicially I can return to exercise and that has definitely helped. So has turning up the music really loud and dancing and singing poorly. Yelling at the tv helps me whether it be politicians, soap operas or idiots on game shows who get the wrong answers. I also have been keeping a journal of all the rage I have and what kinds of things I could do to people who keep getting in my way at the store, on the road, in line at the pharmacy - I guess I need to put that in a safe place so it can't be used for evidence :}

I am a 30 year old, been on L24Fe since beginning of Aug 06 due to breakthrough bleeding for several months on Ortho TriCyclen which I had been on since 1994, with no problems. Once I started it, my breakthrough bleeding stopped-in fact I never had a period again.
However, after a month, I started experiencing shortness of breath, and my heart was racing, I went to the Dr, they did an EKG, chest xray, pulmonary function tests, allergy tests. You name it. Dry mouth, dry eyes, vaginal dryness, hot flashes, insomnia, acne and wheezing and coughing followed. I was seen by several top specialists. They decided that I had Vocal Cord Dysfunction and it was caused by either something called Sjorgren’s syndrome or Acid Reflux. They decided it must be Acid Reflux-even though I didn’t feel like I had indigestion. They started me on protonix, that didn’t work, then switched me to prevacid, then when that didn’t work, they decided to put me on prilosec, then doubled the dosage, then tripled the dosage. By that time, I was doubled over in pain and was going to the bathroom every ½ hour. My stomach was swollen so bad, I looked very pregnant. I am a petite, thin person. I gained about six lbs over this time and I’ve been the same weight since I was 18, and I worked hard to keep it just at six lbs. (working out 2xs a day-seriously became a huge gym rat). I couldn’t wear my wedding rings b/c my hands were so swollen-when I complained-they said they weren’t “that swollen” and I just needed to buy bigger rings. I finally had an endoscope in Nov 07 and they ruled out acid reflux (which I knew bc I had no symptoms).
They then decided it must be the Sjorgrens-a very serious auto-immune disease-which causes-dryness everywhere, and they were guessing the dryness was causing my vocal cords to spasm-so they tested me-with a blood test-it was negative. They said sometimes the blood test is negative-so they then did a lip biopsy-also negative. The doctors all finally said, we don’t know what’s causing this, we’re stumped. You’re just going to have to live with the Vocal Cord Dysfunction-here’s some anti-depressants. I didn’t want to take them so I didn’t. I was stressed b/c I wanted to start a family-but how-I had no sexual desire, and I wasn’t an emotional wreck-not ideal conditions for starting a family-right?
Throughout all of this, I kept asking each dr. could it be my pill? No, it’s not the pill and I believed them b/c I had never had any problems with Ortho. I decided that I would go over my huge medical file 5 weeks ago. I spent two days and then got online and found this website and spent about 6 hours reading everyone’s comments. I was at the end of my package. I threw all of them away. It has been a month, I’ve never felt better. Suddenly, I’m able breath, my mouth isn’t dry, and I’m sleeping at night. I’m still periodically having hot flashes (but I’m not sure if its just the weather) and I’ve noticed that the vaginal dryness is getting better, but not fully. I have been getting a little dizzy, but I’m told that this pill has iron in it, and I’m likely just noticing the reduction in iron. I have started taking an iron supplement and it helped. Also, I got my period after 4 weeks, it wasn’t terrible-it lasted 5 days and it was light. I was massively bloated though. I just weighed myself after 2 days finishing my period-I haven’t weighed myself since about 2 weeks before I stopped the pill and I’ve lost 3 lbs.
If you think about everything. The signs I had ARE THE SAME AS MENOPAUSE. This pill mimics menopause. I’m 30, I’m not ready for that. I am paranoid that I’m never going to be able to have children. Oh yea, and my face has been clear.
All the doctors think I’m crazy, even my gynecologist. I’m considering contacting the FDA to force them to review our complaints so no one else has to go through all of these problems. Please contact me at this email address if you are interested.
I also found this website that we can report complaints to the FDA.

I am 25 and healthy.
I had Mirena inserted in October 2007. In March 2008 I went to the ER with a racing heartbeat. The ECG was normal, i was sent home.
On June 8 I went to the ER again for racing heart beat and chest pain. The ECG was normal, I was sent home.
On June 11 I was home alone and my chest was sore, my heart started racing, my fingernails turned blue, i was light headed. it felt like the blood left my body. I called 911 and was rushed to ER with a heart rate of 175 bpm. The ECG was normal. The doctor said it was anxiety, gave me an Ativan and sent me home after the heart rate normalized,
The 12 of June I went to my family dr as my symptoms had not improved. I was told she could not do anything except order blood work and to go back to ER if i still felt like that. I went to the ER. This time they prescribed me Ativan for anxiety even though i told them i was not anxious.
I took the Ativan for a couple of days. It made me tired but did not improve my chest symptoms or shortness of breath.
I got worse each day. I could only sit on the couch. Even going to the bathroom would have me feeling like i was having a heart attack. Since then, I went to ER 4x. because i KNEW something was very wrong.
Each time the ECG was normal so i was given a 24 hr monitor to wear (still awaiting the results).
I was reading the side effects for Mirena and my symptoms were listed. This medication can potentially cause heart attack and stroke.
I would wake up in the middle of the night with my chest burning and heart pounding. You don't wake up from a deep sleep having a panic attack!!
My last visit to the ER had the doctor telling me "not to google shit and freak myself out". I asked to have my IUD removed and although he was skeptical he agreed after i begged.
I cannot say for CERTAIN the mirena caused this but I have had it out for 3 days now and started to feel better yesterday which is also the day i started to bleed. This only convinces me further it was the IUD.
I am still not 100%. It will take some time for my system to return to normal after this. My main concern is that it damaged my heart so I am going to have an Echogram done to find out.

I have been on Flowmax almost a year. It solved the hard to go problem almost immediately. I do not have any problem going to the bathroom and usually make it through the night now without having to get up. I do not have a particularly hard time getting an erection, but I have notice a much lower ejaculation and less satisfying climax. But age could also be a factor for me at 64. For the most part I like what Flowmax did for me. Before the doc put me on Flowmax there would be times I had a hard time urinating and it was scary. For me I will have to continue using the drug.

This is my second NuvaRing after getting off of Yasmin for 6 months. I will be taking out my NuvaRing in a few more days.
The first time I used NuvaRing, my eyes started to hurt and could not tolerate contacts. Now it's fine. I had a bit of cramping. My boyfriend could kind of feel the ring and so could I. My first period came and it was HEAVY! I had to change my Super Absorbancy tampon every 2 hours, even at night, for at least 5 days. My periods are usually 7 days, with the heaviest during the 1st and 2nd days. However I've never had a heavy period like this before. I thought I was losing too much blood.
Right now I'm on the second NuvaRing, and I've been getting bad cramping that ended up with me going to the bathroom to relieve myself. This has been happening for the past two weeks. After eating, cramping. Sometimes I even have to lay down as it feels like I am rupturing my abdomen from the inside out. And tremendous bloating. I could not zip up my pants because it causes cramping.
I've cramped and bloated with Yasmin, but not as bad as this. When I am on top of my boyfriend, it is highly uncomfortable and hurts for me to try to move. I felt that I'm on an emotional roller coaster all the time and headaches come and go. I have almost no sex drive because of the discomfort.
I'm done with the NuvaRing. I'm going back to Yasmin.

I started taking the generic of Toprol (metaprolol) 3 months ago. I'm on 150mg per day for a rapid heartbeat, I'm 39 years old. It has helped my heart problems but I don't know if the side effects are worth it. I experience major fatigue that may last a week at a time and subside for a few days, aches in my back and neck (which I've learned may also be attributed to the Lipitor that I am also on), and my worse symptom is constant diarrhea. Some days I will run to the BR 15 times in one day. It seems to subside by dinner time, but that is probably because I stay away from food all afternoon. I'm fortunate that I am a stay at home mom I can't imagine having to go to work in this condition!

This is an update. We took our son off Singulair 10 days ago. We continue with Flovent once a day, and the asthma has not deteriorated. My son's overall mood has gotten better, he is less aggressive and became very verbal about how much he loves us. He is still emotional but not as much as before: while he still wants to cry at the drop off a hat, he manages to stop himself after 15 seconds. That is a huge improvement. Things are by far not back to normal, but overall I see my old son shining through.
However, we still have an issue with obsessive compulsive behavior. We have an appointment with our pediatrician this Thursday.

I was just prescribed lisinopril a few weeks ago, for HBP, my pressure was always low but, I recently had a malfunctioned defibrillator change and my BP went very high, so the MD put me on lisinopril. I have been on it for about a month now, but the only symptoms I have been getting is severe fatigue, sleeping a lot and very thirsty. Are some of the symptoms putting on weight, I don't want that, and I did or have not had a bad cough. But sleeping is bad and very tired all the time. Should I ask my MD to change my meds? I did have 2 heart attacks and two by pass surgeries, l4 years ago one in 93 and one in 99. Then my heart weakened and I came down with arrhythmias after passing out. They inserted a pacemaker/def. thanks to medtronic after the pacemaker and def. were recalled I had to get another one, but if this drug is causing everyone a lot of problems I don't want to take it. I do get up a lot during the night (constantly going to the bathroom) due to thirst and am constantly tired I am 51,and came down with this disease (it is a childhood disease and have had it since I was l9), but it is a scary one, heart problems. They never ran in my family. Any suggestions would be appreciated. I am going to get my blood taken on Tuesday to see if this Lisipril is working or not. Thanks for anyone help, I really need it on this new drug. Thank you.

Hello, I am 26 and this is my first time on a bc. My doctor Prescribed it to me to help me with my pms, cramping, and acne. It seems to be working for the cramping and heavy periods. I'm not too sure if it is actually working for my pms or if i have just been dealing with things in a better way. My acne hasn't changed at all, if anything i feel that it has gotten a bit worse. I experienced horrible horrible headaches and nausea the first month. The second month was a little better, and now the third is a lot better. Ok but now the reason that i am here is that i have been experiencing bad constipation to the point where i have developed hemroids. I have always had a few problems with my bowels but never this bad! Before Yasmin i was pretty regular with no trouble. I haven't changed anything in my diet or life other than started Yasmin. So I think its being caused by the pills. I'm on my last week of my third pack. If anyone else has experienced can you please let me know. If it is the pills, I'm not going to start on a fourth pack! Oh 1 more thing, has anyone experienced sudden heart palpitations because of the pill? It used to happen more during the 1st pack and has subsided a bit but still happens at times. It really freaks me out because it will happen over and over again when it does. Any feedback is greatly appreciated, thanks!

I am a 50 year old female and started taking 10 mg of Lisinopril about 2 months ago for HBP. I also take Lovastatin with no problems for about 2 years. Within a few weeks, I starting having the dry, hacking cough along with the tickle in the throat. I also starting itching over various parts of my body. I starting urinating a lot especially at night. Between the coughing and going to the bathroom, I was not getting much sleep. I was tired all the time and was not able to concentrate very well. A few weeks ago, I noticed my skin was getting little red spots. It finally dawned on me that all these symptoms occurred after I started taking the Lisinopril! I went online and found this site. I can't believe they would put a drug like this on the market! I quit taking the medicine about 4 days ago and my cough is starting to decrease, my itching is almost gone and I am not urinating as much. I have an appointment with my doctor in a few days and will tell him that I will NOT be taking this medicine anymore. I will find another way to decrease my blood pressure without medicine. SOMEBODY NEEDS TO DO SOMETHING ABOUT THIS DRUG!!!!!

Those of you that has experienced weight gain....do you think its because the Zoloft as increased your appetite? I can handel being tired and going to the bathroom all day... but I would be in worse shape if I gained weight....what else is more depressing!! My husband started Zoloft a few weeks ago for anxiet, and his main complaint is exhaustion. My OBGYN gave it to me for severe PMS.

I have been on Aviane for about six months and I too have experienced weight gain (after working very hard to get rid of it prior to going on Aviane...), mood swings, which are horrible just before and continue the first few days of my period, mild depression (probably a result of the weight gain), and similar pregnancy-type symptoms (swollen breasts, going to the bathroom more often, and cravings). This is the first month that I've put two and two together to recognize that the symptoms/side effects are probaby related to the birth control. I've been on so many different types of birth control, I really don't know what to switch to next. I know that I need a lo-dose of estrogen, because I frequently experience a lessened sex-drive on BC pills.

I have been on Lisinopril for 2 months and I'm a diabetic. I was put in the hospital for dizzy spells, they did all types of tests and could not find anything. I had to have help going to the bathroom and my meals prepared for me because I could do nothing. This medicine completely disabled me me!
I also have that irritating dry cough that comes out of nowhere.
Apart from the dizzy spells and almost passing out I have numbness & pain in my face, arm, and chest. I couldn't sit up for very long, I'd start feeling really weird, my stomach would go numb, trembling feeling in there, it would spread upward to my chest and I would get nauseated, then I had to lay down.
All these new problems are beginning to get me depressed.
I suggested the Lisinopril to my doctor if this could be the problem, he said no.
All these problems never started until I started taking this new drug and after reading many other posts on this forum and seeing that we have the same symptoms that this drug is not safe to use - AS OF TODAY NO MORE LISINOPRIL FOR ME!

I have MS and was put on this medication for an episode I was having, severe vertigo. The veritgo would hit while driving on the freeway or at any other time of the day or night; therefore, the doctor felt the best action would be to take massive doses of Prednisone in hopes it would stop the vertigo. With all the side-effects I had from taking this drug it may have been better dealing with the vertigo!
I was NOT informed to check my blood sugars, I am a Type-2 diabetic, but was instructed to eat every 4 hours with each dose I took. I ended up in the emergency room with blood sugars over 600. My vision was effected to the point I didn't need my prescription lenses to see. I had insomnia. Couldn't stop drinking water, nor going to the bathroom (not sure if that was blood suger related, the drug, or both). I was delusional (and not normally so). I had the acid/reflux so bad that it was difficult to swallow food every 4 hours which lead to early tappering off the drug. I developed acne over my face and chest. I ached everywhere and felt like I would die.
The positive experiences I got from my Prednisone was the bond I developed through sharing my side-effects with another person who had also had bad experiences with the drug. I could see the leaves on the trees yards away without my glasses. My sight returned to "normal" about 2 weeks to a month after the treatment ended. The vertigo stopped and the loss of the use in my right hand and arm (MS related) came back 100%. I appreciate the life I have been given and am greatful for my health.

Hi Gypsi--
Thanks so much for the grapefruit and vinegar tips for my metabolism. That is just what I need! My metabolism seems to be at a standstill. So today I will WALK to the store and get the stuff.
Pure cranberry juice and water is a great diuretic. I used to drink it on a diet I was on called "Fat Flush..." designed to lose weight and flush all the toxins out of the body. I was going to the bathroom constantly, it worked so well. Plus cranberry juice is supposed to be so good for a lot of other things. It may take a little research to find the pure juice... i get mine at Henry's or Whole Foods.
Thanks for saying I have a new state of mind... I am certainly trying, so maybe it shows!

Yasmin is the first FDA approved birth control to contain a different type of testosterone never used before in bc pills that is supposed to help with acne. In addition, it alone among other bc pills has a potassium-sparing dieuretic in it, which is supposed to help with weight, but also tinkers with potassium levels. There is a special warning (among others) in their packet that people who take NSAIDS such as Ibuprofen or Naproxen daily must have their postassium levels checked during the first treatment cycle, owing to the risk of increasing potassium higher than safe levels. Potassium level disturbances can cause heart rhythm problems. In 2003, the Dept. of Health and Human Services informed the Yasmin maker that they were in violation of Federal Food, Drug, and Cosmetic Act (Act) regulations by "minimizing the important risk information that distinguishes Yasmin from other combination oral contraceptives" in their TV ad campaign from that year. In January of 2005, the watchdog group Public Citizen put Yasmin on their list of popular drugs that they recommend not to use. Their explanation for this decision was "it can cause elevations in blood potassium while offering no advantage over other birth control pills. If severe, high potassium levels can cause heart rhythm problems." Yasmin is truly unique from all other bc pills for these reasons, so one can not assume that side effects from Yasmin would be the same as experienced with other bc pills as well.
I had been taking Yasmin for just over 8 months and experienced the following serious side effects which I was unable to attribute to being a new mom second time around: extreme hair loss, frequent heart racing episodes, heart palpitations, daily headaches, vision changes (blurry episodes and thinking I needed bifocals,) feeling of being out of shape when performing tasks around the house, and going to the bathroom about 5 times each night. In addition I also experienced depression, zero libido, swollen ankles, exhaustion, etc. I have taken other bc pills off and on over the last 20 years, and have never experienced any of the above mentioned side effects except for the lowered libido, which was to the extreme on Yasmin. I stopped taking Yasmin just over 2 weeks ago when I put 2 and 2 together, and can honestly say I feel like a totally different person. Instead of daily headaches, I have had one headache which was last week and none since. My hair loss has decreased to almost normal. I have so much more energy, and am sleeping well since I don't have to get up 5 times a night to use the bathroom. No heart palps or heart racing episodes so far. Swelling is gone in my ankles, and no depression whatsoever. My vision appears to be back to normal, and my libido is now business as usual. On an emotional level, I feel as though 8 months of my life was stolen from me. Now that the symptoms are gone, I realize how much coping with them consumed me on a daily basis, and just plain made me sad overall. I have an appt. with my ob/gyn for a physical and to request she formally report my adverse side effects with Yasmin to the FDA.
Thank you to others on this forum who are posting their side effects as they go of Yasmin and time passes.

I would like to sympathize with everyone who is taking this pill! I have now been on it for over a year and I have had severe mood swings, crying for no reason and last month I had to have my gallbladder removed!
I went to my OB/GYN 6 weeks after my first baby and was prescibed Yasmin as I have PCOS. Supposedly this pill balances out the hormones and is one of the better ones for PCOS sufferers. I would disagree!
The only reason I looked at this website was that my husband had heard something on tv about loss of some nutrients, especially potassium. He was concerned as I have been very lethargic, moody, have problems going to the bathroom and to top it off my libido has gone out the window!
After reading some of the guests responses on this website, I am now convinced that Yasmin is not right for me, and by the sounds of it, not for a lot of women! I will be making an appointment with my OB/GYN asap to find something else!
Before being pregnant I was on the pill (not yasmin) for 12 years and had no side effects of any kind.
Go take care of yourself and throw Yasmin out the window.
PS If anyone knows of a class action against Yasmin let me know!!!! ;-)

Started in Jan. this year on 10mg dose. Came off in May for three months as I was experiencing nausea, joint pain and depression. Had to go back on last week as cholesterol is sky high. This time 40mg - feel violently sick, keeping going to the loo about -10 times between 7am and 10 am. and so tired am staying in bed most of day. Phoned the pharmacist today who says to stop taking over the weekend see my doctor on Monday as there is an alternative to Simvastatin that does not given so many problems and to try taking porridge each morning as this can significantly reduce cholesterol naturally?? Will give it a try, YUKKK......
