Wow. I am blown away by what everyone has said. I am 27 and got my Mirena put in June 2007. I thought I had hit gold finding a form of BC that didn't require any work on my part and that didn't have side effects. YEAH right! A week after getting it inserted I began having migraines on a daily basis to the point where I had to go and see a specialist. I have gained about 15lbs, my sex drive is almost non existent (when I should be at my peak) and I am crabby all the time. However, the cherry on top of all of this is that my darn period has gotten longer and heavier. I went to see my GYN yesterday only to find out that the Mirena was in the wrong place! HUNCH!! That means it wasn't working and I have a possibility of being pregnant right now. Not cool at all. To say the least I had the darn thing removed and have chosen to go back to the NuvaRing. I never had side effects and it's as easy to use as putting in and taking out a tampon. If you have Mirena I would say get rid of it!

#30157- I wanted to quell your fears about Zoloft. I started taking it about a year ago (when I turned 30). I take 50mg and feel great. I was very anxious and depressed. This stuff is like gold- I can't believe I ever survived without it. Before Zoloft I let anxiety rule my life, I couldn't focus on my job..it was a nightmare.
I don't remember what that was like now. Give it a try, I think you will find that you waited too long and you will be glad you tried it.

Sexual disfunction. that should be enough .I work out daily and manage a Gold's Gym. So the disfunction is NOT poor health. My wife is experiencing joint pain and muscular ache as well as lack of sleep. She is in her early 20's. I am in my 40's.

I went on the NuvaRing because it would regulate my hormones- I have IBS and get sick a few days before my period. The NR was great for keeping my IBS at bay. However, I gained over 15 pounds while on it. I had not changed my eating habits or activity level. The only thing I could associate to the massive weight gain, enlarged, swollen, and sore breasts was the ring. Even after hiring a personal trainer, eating healthier, and working out multiple times a week, I couldn't lose weight. I finally decided to take the ring out. After two weeks of being "ring free", people can see a difference in my weight- and I haven't gone to the gym to work out in over 3 weeks. Now I have to suffer through painful periods and digestive problems because I can't bare the weight gain that comes with the ring. If anyone knows of another form of BC that does not cause weight gain, please let me know.
