Hello everyone! I am a 28 yr old male, and I have now been taking this drug for about 1 1/2 yrs. What is so overwhelming to me is that I have been having some of these side effects, but it never occurred to me that they may have been caused by this medication. My side effects are not major, but they do really affect my self esteem and I think have some what depressed me a bit.
None of us have direct physical evidence that this medication is the cause, but I don't think this is a big coincidence. Below are what I believe may be side effects of this medicine:
Unlike before I now feel:
-Anxiety (im always nerves, and was blaming debt for it)
-Decrease in sexual drive (also blaming my financial problems)
-Joints popping all the time (blaming my gaut)
-Bigger forehead because of minor loss of hair (blaming age)
-Problem falling asleep (blaming financial problems)
and again im always scared, even if everything is ok (ive been holding together because on the other hand, since i was born, I have always been a very strong minded person). This is really depressing because two years ago, nothing would be scare me, I mean nothing, I was afraid of nothing. No matter what time it was, or what situation I found myself in, my buddy down south would be ready for action, now when im going to have sex, im all worried hoping that it works!, (dont get me wrong, it works like 90% of the time) but before it would work 200% of the time, i mean i was turned on by a damn broom, and now its not the same. This really *ux!
I have been blaming everything on my financial ruin that I am currently in, but am having second thoughts on what is causing all of this. This site has really opened my eyes and given me a whole new theory and even hope.
I once asked my doctor that if I went home and got on a diet, exercised and did all that was necessary, would he consider taking me off the pill or lowering my dosage and he immediately said NO. I mean he almost didn't even let me finish asking. He told me that If i wanted to go in a pine box to stop taking it. So he scared the crap out of so I have not stopped taking it. I can afford to go to different doctors because i don't have insurance or money to pay for the visit. I wonder if this doctors has advised me based on his financial convenience. I mean is it possible that a doctor may lie? I never thought doctors would lie. Im afraid of just getting off the pill, im afraid that all the doctors are going to tell me not to get off of it. my bp is usually about 130/85 some times up to 140/90.
I would appreciate peoples thoughts on what I should do?
Thanks everyone that takes part in this blog! it is really helpful for people like me that have no money to get advice.
Hope everyone makes the right decision!
Regards!

I am 22 years old and I have never had any children. I do not understand what made the doctor think that this horrible device would fit in my uterus. When I had the Simply Mirena inserted in March 2008, I almost passed out, (since he inserted it wrong once, he had to pull it out right after and do it again). I think of myself as a pretty strong person, but I literally cried out, and I almost fainted while paying my co-pay at the receptionist's desk. My husband had to come pick me up from the doctor's office because I couldn't even walk to my car, but I wish that was the worst of it.
Within one month, I started feeling VERY depressed so my doctor put me on Effexor XR (which started a whole bunch of other problems), but now that I have been off of the Efffexor for a while and I am noticing problems that I had been blaming on the Effexor.
Here are some of my symptoms...
- Weight Gain
- Feeling tired, weak, and depressed.
(To the point that I will sleep for 18 hours if givin the opportunity.)
- Chronicly Dry skin
- Constipation and Diarrhea
(I haven't had a normal BM since I had it inserted.)
- Memory problems
- Cannot concentrate
- ABSOLUTELY NO SEX DRIVE!
(And when I do have it, It hurts for days afterwards.)
- Lower back pain
- Stabbing pains in the uterus
- No menstrual cycle
(I would spot for the first few months, but now it is completely gone.)
- Massive mood swings
- Nausea
Well of course my doctor thought for sure that this was my thyroid, so (without medical insurance), I went and got all my blood work done thinking that I would finally have an answer to my health issues... NOPE!
I received the results today and found out that my thyroid was perfectly fine, no anemia, good blood counts... Nothing.
Now not to say that I am not happy that my thyroid is okay, but I just wanted an explanation for all of this. SO my doctor sends me to see my NEW Ob-Gyn, to have this "Thing" aka Simply Mirena, taken out of my body. After reading all of the problems that the other women have been having, I am CERTAIN that this is the cause of all of these problems.
I would like to thank all of you for opening my eyes to something that was so obvious. I have an appointment to have mine removed next Friday (I'm not as brave as some of you ladies to take it out myself). I will keep you all posted on my progress.

I was on 5/10 lotrel, a mild dose over 3 months. I took myself off of the drug and learned to relax more, and have a better diet and exercise more. I felt weird where I could not focus on my priorities, and the way the medication made me feel made me think of it more than I wanted to rather than life. I am normally a no headache person. While on the medication, i had horrible headaches where I had to take Excedrin migraine to get over it. My skin after taking it for awhile became dry and itchy. I had dark circles under my eyes, which was new. My knees and feet and hands became ice cold. I think it is because I believe that my blood pressure the way it was, was what my body needed, and maybe there was not enough circulation with the very low 117/60. My normal and feel good blood pressure is about 140/85. I am happy with that and will keep it. Also wild at normal 140/85 my blood sugar is normal. when I took the medication and it dropped to 117/60, my blood glucose rose. My body was releasing glucose because it was saying, hey something is not okay here. I think the drugs are bad, and now I eat organic vegetables, no coffee, no sugar, protein meats, and soy milk, unsweetened almond milk, walnuts, blueberries, whole grains. No white bread, no sugar, no soda, no fried food, no white potatoes, no white rice. My range is now 120/70 to 140/85 when i am rushing around. That is normal. I think medications change your body chemistry. When my skin became itchy and my extremities cold, and my body started shaking and freezing and sweating, it was from the pills. if you want to know you readings, don't go to the doctor. Buy a self test BP machine, Glucose reader, cholesterol meter. My doctors cholesterol count was 100 over another text i had at a free clinic. Maybe they cheat the numbers, who knows, to make you think you are sick and bring you back. take care of yourself, and get away from the fear and panic the doctors put you in. you are way better to see a natural nutritionist if you need help. Break a sweat every day!...that will help.

After a lifetime of good blood pressure, I was so reluctant of surrendering to the fact that I needed to be on blood pressure medicine but finally did so for the fear of a risk in having a stroke. My doctor put me on Lisinopril about 6 weeks ago. The good news is that my blood pressure is now 120/60 HOWEVER....I have had the most unusual, annoying, dry, itching cough that simply stops me in my tracks!!! It just sneaks up on me without warning and I suddenly feel like a lint ball is stuck in my throat and I can't swallow and the tears pour down my face. I cannot even walk into the post office without a bottle of water in my hand for fear of an attack coming on. The only relief I can get is to drink water. It really hits me at night when I am trying to sleep...so guess what I DON't get much sleep!!! I went thru 1 gallon of water 2 nights ago!!! Along with this condition, I have also felt extremely irritable!!!! I did have enough sense to know that the level of anger or the amount of tears I was experiencing seemed to be over amplified. Thanks to my good friend for caring enough about me to discover this web site so I can discontinue this medicine. No more high blood pressure but I may just choke to death!!!

I started Metoprolol 6 months ago while in the ER. I was weak with a virus and every time I got up and did anything, my heart would race and would feel weaker. I have white coat syndrome so while I was in the ER my BP went up to 227/110. They gave me 25 mg of Toprol and a prescription for 12.5 mg a day. I have gained 17 lbs in 6 months, have zero energy, tired all the time, insomnia, and am depressed for the first time in my life,ad I know it has to be from the Metoprolol. I tried to quit it and 3 days later my heart was racing so bad and my blood pressure was real high. I want to try to quit it but am afraid to. Any suggestions on how to quit it?

My doctor recently started a control treatment for my infrequent asthma. I am a 35 year old male, light smoker, with good blood pressure, good pulse.
Up until 3 weeks ago, I treated my infrequent asthma with an albuterol inhaler. The week before Halloween, I had developed bronchitis after trying to treat my asthma with Primatene Mist and Mucinex for a week.
She immediately put me on Augmentin, Advair (100/50mcg) Singulair (10mcg) and an albuterol nebulizer.
Last monday, I went to the hospital with chest pains. It felt like someone was grabbing my chest muscles and squeezing them. The 'cramps' for lack of a better word, went up into my neck specifically around my throat. I was dizzy, sweating, trembling suffering an anxiety attack and had a racing pulse. I was checked out by the nurse(still had good BP, high pulse) but could not breathe. I was given a nebulizer treatment, and the attack subsided.
On Wednesday and Thursday of this week, I had the same symptoms. It was so bad, I had to excuse myself from Thanksgiving dinner. I never felt this way before and know I could not be suffering a heart attack every day, all day so it has to be the medication.
I stopped the Advair Thursday night. By Friday, my appetite had returned and the tremors had deminished. I still took the Singulair.
Today, with just the Singulair, I still feel 'shaky' and out of sorts. I don't feel bad, but I don't feel 'well'. I have had a near constant headache all day and get dizzy when I stand up for long periods of time.
Tonight is my last night for the Singulair. I'll report back in a day or two to let you know how it's going.
On a good note, I haven't had an Asthma attack for 3 weeks now. I've just felt like crap ever since.

hi silke,
dehydration and anxiety are definately linked, when the body is lacking something it switches on it's emergeny mechanisms to survive so it is quite possible that valuable vitamins and minerals are used up in this emergency state. As yasmin has a strong diuretic effect it is not surprising that anxiety etc gets worse. As you were on it for so long i imagine most of your stores were used up a long time ago. i carry a bottle of water with me wherever i go,i am never without one! i drink at least 2.5 litres of water a day. like you i also take magnesium as it seems to help. i take evening primrose oil for pms, garlic pills for good blood circulation, omega 3,6,9 oil for the brain and nerves and calcium to balance the magnesium! it all seems to help me. The other thing that gets me through it all is the faith that i will be back to my old self and hopefully stronger than before. i am still having trouble with agoraphobia which appeared when my panic attacks came on but i am doing my best to get over with the power of positive thinking! I am hoping that now my periods have returned that nature will take over and get my body back to normal! the memories of this nightmare will take longer to heal though i think. best wishes to you silke,i really hope that the water and magnesium work for you and that you soon feel better than ever.

I was originally started on 20mg Lisinopril about 6 weeks ago, and had many of the symptoms discussed here. But it did control my blood pressure nicely. I decided to cut the pills in half, and the side effects diminished quite a bit. My blood pressure was still well contolled. So I cut the dose in half again, and still good blood pressure control, minimal side effects. Now I'm taking 2.5mg per day, and my blood pressure is under 120/80, and I have no side effects. In fact, a few hours after I take it, I feel full of energy.

I have been on lisinopril for about a week now and in bed for a week now. So tired and dizzy that I can barely function. Also having problem with a foggy head, things aren't real clear. Going back to Doc - this is not good. Blood pressure went from 168/132 to 102/62 immediately. It is continuing to drop after about 1 hour of taking this med. It goes from normal to low (low in my opinion).

I am so happy I found this website, I have been taking Lisinopril for about 5 years now. I have been have dizzy spells or the tunnel effect for about 2 years now. I thought I was going crazy! I can't drive, sit in a meeting, or even sit through church and it's getting worse. I call my mother and just sit and cry thinking something is wrong with me. I'm so glad all of you came here to tell your experiences. I will stop taking this medication RIGHT NOW!!
