I haven't gotten the Mirena put in yet but am terrified! I heard such bad things & then I found this site & I just want to get my tubes tied now. I am 24 and my fience is 30. We are trying to be responsible and not get pregnant until we feel we are ready and in the right place in our careers to support a child the way we never were. I did wonderful on Depo (no weight gain, hair loss, skin problems, nothing) but was taken off it due to the potential of lowered bone density after being on it for 10 years. I tried Ortho & Ortho-lo and both of them made me have bad mood swings, headaches, and I gained 17lbs. I tried Seasonique but that made me have migraines and the worst cycles of my life. I just got switched to a Progestin only pill that is supposed to be similar to the Depo but I can't take the every day same time pill thing. I can never find a good time to work with. The MIRENA has been on my mind for a year now and I just want the real honest straight up facts...not the doctor version. Please help me!

For those of you who are ridiculing the ladies who are sharing their personal stories on here, shame on you. I'm GLAD you are happy with your Mirena and that you are not having problems with it. That does not change the fact that many women have suffered due to their Mirena and want women who are considering birth control options to be aware of the symptoms that the company and doctors deny.

I had absolutely no pain with placement of my Mirena 2 years ago, and removal was a breeze. I had no periods after the initial, short and light period I had after placement - which was AWESOME. However, I gained a lot of weight, I was incredibly moody, and had no energy or sex drive. It got worse with time to the point I was considering antidepressant medication. We decided we want to have another baby so I had it removed 4 days ago. AMAZING! My husband could tell that very afternoon that I felt good. I had energy to spare, my appetite was down and despite the stress of traveling 7 hours with a 6 and 2 year-old to visit family this weekend I was able to hold my temper in check and have a good time with my family. No one will convince me, or my husband, that Mirena - though it served its purpose well - only causes the side effects we're warned about in the pamphlet. There's too many of us complaining about the same things for it to be coincidence. For those of you who aren't experiencing these symptoms I am truly happy for you... but do not make the rest of us feel like whiners or like we're in the pocket of some other birth control company trying to scare women away from Mirena.

This isn't a new side affect but I didn't have a good time with Femcon at all. I only took it for about 2 months and I bled for 2 almost 3 weeks. I was depressed and I know now that I gained 10 pounds while on it. I would never recommend anyone to take this. I am not taking anything now and I don't play on taking anything. I am going to talk to my Gyn. about pain management until I decide to get pregnant again. I just don't understand why doctors seem to think that birth control is a one size fits all drug and it isn't. But I don't know much about nothing so who knows.

I have been extremely happy with my Mirena actually. I had it put in after my second child in Dec. 2004 at my 6 week appointment. The cramping and bleeding didn't last that long actually but then again I was still bleeding after having the baby anyway so it was a good time to have it done. I stopped having periods after 3 months of having it in completely. That was the absolute BEST part. I haven't had to use a sanitary pad or tampon in almost 5 years!

Now for the other aspects...in hindsight I don't know if the issues I had during the first couple years with the Mirena were side effects of the device or postpartum. That's the problem with having an IUD put in right after having a baby. Side effects like baby blues, postpartum depression (in my case I was almost postpartum psychosis), hair loss, weight issues, etc. can all be related to post-pregnancy. My biggest side effect was the hair loss. I have fine, thin hair to begin with so it's VERY noticeable when I start to lose hair. However, this happens after birth. After 2 years it was such a problem I went for a physical and requested a blood work-up. Everything came back normal. I was told it could be aging (I was 31 years old then) or stress. I tried absolutely everything from changing my diet, taking tons of biotin pills, multi-vitamins, etc. Every year I kept noticing it getting worse. I went to dermatologists who said it could be age, stress, hereditary (I have NO female pattern baldness in my family) and so forth. I started taking Women's Rogaine last fall. Still no difference and I'm losing hair still. I've even lost 25 pounds and within excellent weight range, changed positions in my company to a less stressed job (since last year) and STILL have hair loss.

My husband started doing research on the Mirena since I need to make a decision on birth control in the next 6 months. We both noticed that other symptoms were "wearing" off. I have increased sex drive (a significant amount - let's face it...14 years in a monogamous relationship doesn't all of a sudden just start to increase in the sex drive area normally), started spotting a little bit when I guess would be my period (remember I haven't had a period for 4 years now since I had the Mirena put in post 3 months) and this last month I had a REAL period for a couple days. He thought the hormones were wearing off.

I made an appointment with my GYN to discuss but thought I'd share my experience.

Again I've been super happy with the no periods aspect of the Mirena. LOVE IT! But I don't know if the other symptoms I've been having over the past 5 years are related. And now I have to make a decision. My husband wants me to switch to the Paragard Copper IUD (we love the ease of the IUD so much) yet I hate the idea of heavy periods and cramping after a decade without either. Do I take the hair loss (if it's related) but have no periods? Decisions....

I have only been on Budeprion for a week so I don't know if I am experiencing side effects or not. Yesterday I had hot flashes and dizzy spells, but I attributed them to the warm weather. I've had chronic dry mouth/throat which I heard is a side effect. I've also noticed that my hands have been cold and kinda sweaty, and today they feel pretty numb. I started taking this because I have been battling depression, smoking, and social anxiety for a long time and decided it was time to seek medical assistance. Yesterday I went out and had a good time, but afterwards I had a big panic attack...the first one in months! I think it's too soon to attribute this to the Budeprion XL. They said it could take over a month for it to build up in my system/take effect. Has anyone else had similar experiences?

It worked for me but as soon as I went off of it I hit a state of complete withdraw and detoxed for 4 days and attempted to commit suicide, it was so bad I don't even remember everything that had happened...so word of advice if you decide to stop taking this get off gradually and take it very slow!

Started with a Pred pak for a sinus infection. Made my heart race and had tach and early heartbeat, which kept me from sleeping. Went to Cardiologist. Several doctors denied that the Pred would cause the rapid heartbeat. Then the Cardiologist did an echo and found a pericardial effusion and some weird spots on my lungs. They suspected lung cancer which may cause the effusion, so I had surgery to do a pericardial window and a lung biopsy. Then a pulmonologist decided to put me on Pred again...steady dosage...because she didn't know what else to do. (Didn't have lung cancer) I didn't have any more funny heartbeats, so maybe the pred didn't cause it after all. But I've gained 40 pounds. My hair has grown faster, and I've gotten some facial hair (not supposed to have that, being a female)...which I call fur. Moon face with cheeks that are hard, muscle cramps, can't sleep, but once I do go to sleep, I can't wake up. Tired all the time, headaches, joint pain-sometimes severe, dry skin, generally bad attitude, with very little patience, low potassium levels which add to my muscle cramping problems, difficulty swallowing, indigestion which I've never had, with painful and burning reflux. And occasionally when I eat, I have the rapid heartbeat again. I go in search of food like I'm going to store it in my thighs for winter. Anything you eat will turn to fat, including protein. Can't wait to get off this stuff which will take until June of next year. Then my doctor says it will be 3 months before all these effects wear off. No one told me I would get fur.

Hello ladies! I have had ny IUD in since Tuesday and have not enjoyed one bit of it. I should have known when the doctor couldn't put it in the first 2 times. As soon as the procedure started i instantly began to feel severe cramping, it was like having full blown contractions. I also was very dizzy and my vision was blurred. As soon as I sat up I had to lay back down for 15 minutes before I was able to drive home. Since Thursday morning I have felt like a walking zombie. I have had no energy, peeing like I am pregnant, I am also having severe swelling and severe allergic reaction. I woke up at 4am this morning because my hands were itching, so I started scratching and it got worse, and then my hands swelled up to the point that I could not bend my fingers. This rash then spread all over my body. I am not sure if the skin reaction is due to the IUD, but I can definitely tell you all that this has never happened from taking ou using any kind of medications. I also am allergic to bee stings, but I haven't had one of those.I have 4 daughters and never really used birth control before.I thought it might be a good time to start taking something, but I was wrong about this product. All I can say is DO NOT USE THIS PRODUCT!!!!!! I would rather not have sex with my husband than use this!

My daughter was born in August of 2007; when I heard about Mirena, I was really excited. My sister in law has the copper IUD and loves it. I thought the Mirena was basically the same thing but with a different name. Boy was I wrong. I had the Mirena inserted in March 14, 2008 and ever since then, I feel like my life is slowly falling apart. I have gradually gained 6lbs despite being an avid running and eating well. During my cycle (I tend to gain anywhere from 3-4 lbs of water weight). For the first month, I bled for about 14 day straight, which was not a good time (ruined lots of nice pairs of underwear).
The worst side effect, for me, has been the mood swings; I think I'm psycho; I want to kill my husband most of the time, the poor guy. I have ZERO sex drive, which is also a huge problem for my relationship, so if I keep going at this rate, I think I can blame Mirena for a divorce. Fortunately, I am having this thine REMOVED TODAY!! I cannot wait! I feel as though I was "talked in to" getting the Mirena because I orginally said I wanted an IUD with NO hormones; for some reason though, I left the office with this horrible product. Something needs to be done about this product!
The insertion was not horrible, but it wasn't fun either.
Mirena is the devil!!

My nephew is 7 and has been on Singulair for probably 4 years. His symptoms developed over time but recently have exploded. He has epilepsy so most of the things that he has experienced has been blamed on that. However, today his doctor took him off singulair and said he believes his symptoms are caused from the drug. He started having head drop seizures, fell out of his desk and cut his face one day. He has also been depressed, had severe anxiety attacks for the past 8 months. Several months ago, he started having such severe nightmares that it is almost impossible to get him to go to bed and go to sleep. Recently he began "seeing dead people" and "monsters" that we trying to kill him even when he was awake. He has also cried many nights with leg cramps and severe stomach pain. I will update this page in two - three weeks to let you know if these problems go away now that we have stopped the singulair.

Hi. I was diagnosed yesterday with Bells Palsy, (the entire right side of my face is completely paralyzed) and given prednisone, a tapering dosage. I started my first dose of only 20 mgs last night and went to 60 mgs today, will keep on that dose tomorrow as well as one more day, taper down to 40 mg for two days, then 20 mgs for two days. My heart feels like it's going to beat out of my chest! I can feel it it's beating so hard and I can also hear it when lying down .Very freaky. My blood pressure today was 164/107. My normal bp is 110/70. I take medication for high blood pressure but it's not doing much good. I am also a diabetic and my sugar is whack! Had to increase my Metformin. I'm assuming since no one has died from taking this HORRIFIC medicine, we'll all live through it but at times, I feel like I am going to have a frigging massive panic attack! I have to calm myself down, listen to music, meditate. That does help some but not enough .I will be sooooooooo glad when I'm done taking this SH*T! Another thing I've noticed is I am bone weary weak, like I've run the Boston Marathon, competed in the 1000 meter butterfly medley and then played 3 sets of tennis on top of that! GOOD GRIEF, HE INVENTED THIS CRAPOLA?

I have had my Mirena IUD in for 5 years now, and am having it removed tomorrow - yay!!! The only thing I'm NOT looking forward to is the contraction to have it removed (my Doctor reminded me to take a pain killer 1 hour before removal!). Whilst I have had a relatively good time on the Mirenda IUD and didn't have a single period once it was inserted - compared to a friend who also had hers in for 5 years and still had monthly light periods - I am beginning to put 2 + 2 together and have seen the reason for some of my "medical" problems as being linked to the Mirena!

I have had a decreasing sex drive for the past 5 years - which my husband says is "psychological" and I should be able to "think" myself into wanting sex!!! (I've told him that us women don't think about sex every minute like men do and it is impossible for me to feel like making love in the build up to actually doing it!!) I have also experienced weight gain - I am the heaviest I have ever been and my diet hasn't changed much from before I had the Mirena put in!

I think it may work for some people, and I am glad I have tried it; but I certainly don't intend to get another Mirena after I have this one removed!

My almost four year old son has been on singulair for a little over two years now and I am SICK to my stomach after reading all of these entries.
Our son was such an amazing baby, he was very even tempered and behaved beautifully. After some chronic sinusitis and environmental related allergies he was placed on Singulair 15mg granule packets once/day. It was a gradual change in his behavior but very noticeable.

Our wonderful child became very irritable, hipper, restless, moody, and overly sensitive, Our son went from sleeping trough the night to waking several times a night. We are lucky if we have a couple good nights a month. He has also been tougher to get to sleep at night he goes from 8am to midnight on most days (no naps) and will stumble and fall - and he will still protest sleep. On other days he is so hard to keep awake sometimes crashing after school, missing dinner, and going thought the night.

He too like others has been complaining of leg cramps, but I just thought it was a tingly foot....after he would continue to walk around for hours limping, I just thought he was joking. But, the funny leg cramp would always make a reappearance.....and now this could be why????

He is very physical with us and his brother....always hitting and kicking intentionally. His behavior was only exacerbated by the recent birth of our 6 month old. My husband and I have been brought to tears and worn out by his extreme behavior. One moment he is happy - then aggressive or moody and brought to tears....he is like an emotional roller coaster.

He always has a blast at pre-school but completely loses control and freaks out when it is time to go, he says he hates school and is miserable there, he cries so much he throws up. He also goes through hunger strikes, when he is so emotional he choses not to eat. It did not used to be like this!

Coincidental or medical poisoning????

After reading all of these entries, there is no doubt in my mind that Singulair is the culprit.

This drug should be recalled and the pharmaceutical company should be held liable and accountable for this. Our lives have been disturbed and our children's health compromised, what for....a PROFIT?

The FDA needs to do more extensive testing on pharmaceutical drugs and implement more stringent guidelines. and the prescribing doctors shouldn't push these drugs so emphatically.

As of last night we stopped the medication and are relying solely on the Zyrtec OTC. I pray for a change.....we miss the little boy we used to know :-(

While I have taken it before, I don't recall having anything but very mild side effects (maybe a little discomfort in my belly). This time, however, it is different and I am owing it to the beauty of aging. I just took the second of the three pills (and yes, I've had the three pill one before). My bronchitis is clearing but this afternoon I had really bad abdominal pain and I have a continuous headache in the back of my head, where my spinal cord ends. It is not as bad (so far) as the one I had with Biaxin (I refuse to take that). The only bright side is that it made it a really good time to join Weight Watchers because I do not have much appetite. I was able to sleep last night, at least, because my cough decreased. The verdict is still out on whether I would do this again. Problem is, I am allergic to Penicillin.

Okay so I JUST started taking Yaz today and I was laying on the couch and I had ringing in my ears which I've never had... so naturally I went up to Yahoo and put in ringing of the ears and Yaz and up popped this website. I'm truly terrified after reading all of this. Do you think I should switch to something else asap? Any advice would be great!

Ok, I took this because I needed to feel better fast for a weekend with all my guy friends. I am a single girl and I was actually HOPING to come out of this weekend with a boyfriend outta one of 'em...so I wanted to be over my yucky cold/flu symptoms so I could have a good time! Ok...I was NOT feeling well after the third day, my stomach was killlllling me, and I wasn't over my cold stuff either. So by the weekend I was finally feeling a little better but I had started having diarrhea and (even worse!) TERRIBLE GAS. I should have just stayed home, but I went on this roadtrip anyway. I was thinking I would be able to hold it until we stopped, but I started having terrible gas buildup and I just had to release it or I thought I would get sick. Ok, let me just say that we had to pull the jeep over so one of my friends, the really cute one that I liked, could throw up. It was terrible....and even worse they all knew it was me. In my opinion, the slight relief I got from my cold was not worth the tradeoff in side effect. So thanks to my Z pak experience, I was called "Hell Raiser" and other nicknames the rest of the weekend. I will not be using this product again.

I have been taking doxycycline for about 5 days now, 100mg 2x per day. I was fine the first couple days, but now I am noticing a bit of nausea within an hour after I take the morning dose. It normally goes away after abour one hour. I also noticed that I am rather cloudy in the head during this time, and I can't seem to form coherent thoughts. Of course I noticed this while in the grocery store trying to shop with a 10 month old. NOT A GOOD TIME!! Anywho, I am stuck with this medication since my first course of Biaxin was a failure. Hopefully it will end soon and the pneumonia will go away. So far I feel no better.
