I am starting to think I would like to be a part of a class action law suit, my daughter had to switch schools because of her mood swings, and vague hallucinations. and vague paranoia. She once ran into a parking lot she was so afraid of needles! Took her to a psychiatrist, sensed she was quick to put her on mood stabilizers and left before the eval. Recently her ped refused to up her dose of singulair and told me about depression. I subsequently upped her flovent and took her off her singulair. I did this after I heard her teacher saqy she kept on leaving the classroom to go to the nurse, and was exhibiting defiant behavior. and saying she was depressed, hearing music that wasn't there, etc. Now that shye has been off of it a week, she is a different child, and hasn't argued with me once. Hasn't cried for 5 days. has not argued w2ith her brother either! I feel I have the child back from 5 years ago when she started taking it! unfrigging believable! I would love to sue, because these episodes have almost ruined my marriage, and caused me to miss many days of work, and feel guilty when I didn't Thank-God I just took her off of it on a whim!

My daughter was born 9-6-08 and had the Mirena inserted a month later. I tried really hard to lose the weight from my pregnancy and at first I thought it was working but then I stopped losing any weight and before I knew it I weigh the same as my when I was pregnant. I feel the fluttering in my stomach and the acne and the sore breasts and even the moodiness. I thought I was pregnant. I took 4 hpt and they all came back negative. Went for a urine test at my doctors but I still wasn't convinced when it came back negative so I asked for a blood test too. That also came back negative. Thank goodness cuz I didn't want another child this soon. It just seemed to be too much stress and too much to worry about. It's not worth it. I'm convinced that I will call my doctor and have it removed because I just cannot handle this. I'm going back on the pill. Not sure which kind but anything is bound to be better than this. Any suggestions? I'm so hoping to lose all this weight and stop getting acne. Not to mention stop snapping at my husband all the time.

I am 25 years old. I had my Mirena put in in February of 2008 after my daughter was born. This was my third child and I chose this birth control because I was told it was the best choice aside from having my tubes tied which I wasn't ready to do. I have had it a little over a year and half now and had quit having a period. About 2 1/2 months ago I had a very heavy period that lasted about 3 weeks. When it quit I thought it was just my body trying to tell me it needed flushed out. Well a week later I had another 2 week long period. I made an appointment with my doctor and they couldn't find the IUD. They said it had shifted so they ordered an ultrasound to locate it. I am still waiting on those results but am most likely going to have it taken out regardless. I didn't have a single problem with it until recently. My husband and I are thinking about having another baby and I am not going back on this medicine after we do. I will get my tubes tied because I am not dealing with this again. My dr said that if the IUD isn't the cause of the bleeding it is something else and most likely the IUD caused that problem as well. Thank goodness I found this site because I thought I was the only one having this problem as well. Good luck to all and I will update as soon as I hear about the location and results of the ultrasound.

I'm a 19 year old college student and a I've been on Yasmin for about 3 years. I started the pill because after two major surgeries, my body was traumatized, leaving me with very heavy periods and feeling tired all the time. I started Yasmin and at first, was very happy with it. I didn't lose weight on it, but I didn't gain any weight, either, which is what happened when I tried taking other birth control pills. However, after my senior year, I went off to college, where the problems began. It seemed that anytime I was under stress, my anxiety and bad mood would amplify. I got mad at my boyfriend over small things to the point of wanting to break up with him. Thank goodness he was patient with me! I began having panic attacks and although I was living in horrible conditions at school, I just chalked it up to not being ready to move off, etc. I came home the next semester and had the same problems. Anytime my boyfriend and I get into an argument, I can feel myself get heated up and I become uncontrollably angry. I hate myself when this happens. I have also been very tired. Some mornings, I can't stay awake in class and since I've been on the pill, I have felt the need to take naps way more often than usual. I plan to stop taking this pill as soon as my month is up!

i discovered that i had hyperthyroidism which was from grave's disease and grave's thyroid eye disease in jan. 2009. at the end of march i had my thyroid removed. never let anyone use the radiation treatment if it is in your eyes. my surgeon said if we had waited another week i would have been dead. they started me on 75 mcg of levoxyl. it made me mean, i prayed to God to let me die in my sleep every night. the dosage was changed to 88 mcg. my hair was falling out by the handfuls. i kept calling my dr. and being told it was normal. i lost 75% of my hair mass almost to non reversible. i have been on appearex and women's rogaine once a day and am using nioxin hair cleanser and conditioner for 2 months. i have new growth thank goodness. my toes almost froze off my feet, the headaches cannot even be described, i gained 40 lbs, this will be the 3rd time in 7 mos. they need to change my dosage to 100 mcg. my body cannot take it. today i am starting synthroid. until i found this site today i had no idea most of my agony was from levoxyl and it's side effects. thanks so much for all the information. good luck to everyone.

I was prescribed medrol by my GP due to an ongoing rash that needed to get under control. I believe I had the 40mg dose/wein pack. The first two days I felt as though I were on speed. Day 2 at the grocery store I stopped to take my blood pressure because I was sure my heart was racing out of my chest. Thankfully, it wasn't and happened to be palpitations that I was having. I had hot flashes where my face and chest would get red like a sunburn. There were the sweats and the leg weakness/soreness. I did have sporadic headaches but, nothing a Tylenol wouldn't alleviate thank goodness. I've read here that numerous people had very bad headaches. My last day on the meds I started to experience the fatigue. Today is my first full day off and I certainly felt flu like. Sporadic lightheadedness, weakness and fatigue that would all come and go throughout my workday along with sporadic energy. I'm glad that I found this site so at least I know that this is normal and will subside in a few days. Other side effects I experienced were worsening of my post nasal drip along with a funny taste in my mouth, mood swings, insomnia, hyperactivity and muscle aches.

I had Mirena inserted about 2 years ago and I'm having it removed later this week (thank goodness). I have gained 30 lbs, suffered from terrible fatigue and joint pain, mood swings, thinning hair, depression, total lack of sex drive and worst of all DEBILITATING migraines (especially after an orgasm.....I suppose that's a good reason for lack of sex drive!).
I had no problem with insertion, but was immediately aware of vaginal odor that was never there before....just an unclean sort of smell....really annoying and still persists. I miss my old periods (very normal, one week of PMS, 4 days of bleeding, then done). Now I have about 3 weeks of horrendous PMS with breast swelling, weight gain, fatigue, depression, increased appetite then I "spot" for 8-12 days! Horrible! I'll take 4 days of bleeding over 8 days of "sludge" anytime.
I hope removing it will end these issues.

Thank goodness for this blog/bulletin board because now I know probable cause of dreadful insomnia that's afflicted me for past 3 weeks. It's back to Doxazosin tomorrow for me!

My horrible experience is finally over with Mirena as of today and I’m SOO relieved. I had Mirena inserted after my daughter was born because I liked the idea of not needing to remember to take a pill (esp with mommy brain). For the first few months, it was fine because I was breast feeding and did not have a period at all. However, once I stopped breast feeding, Mirena kicked it and it was awful. Granted, I think I’m in that 10-20% that has annoying side effects and does not like it. But, I would feel nausea a few days a month (and I did not have that when I was pregnant), I would have cramps 3 out of the 4 weeks in a month, spotting all the time, periods were all over the place (which would have been okay, but the spotting was really annoying), more headaches than normal and I felt tired all the time. Yes, it is tiring taking care of a toddler, but I was sleeping 9 hours a night and I was still tired. I basically felt like I was pregnant when I was not. No thanks.
So, I called the doctor’s office and they said they have heard of headaches, but not cramping. The doctor never called me about it (I spoke to the nurse), so after doing my own research, I decided to just get it out. So, I go in for the IUD removal. The doctor comes in and brings in a nursing student to view how easy it is. I guess that cursed me since she could not find the strings. It was sooo painful. The doctor has the student try to look to see if she can find the strings (I was mortified, just want I want, is someone else looking down there). She can’t find the damn thing, so she asks for an IUD removal hook. Just want I want to hear is the work hook and my cervix. So, she finally gives up after I’m ready to bite her head of because I’m in so much pain and screaming for an epi (the only pain I could compare it to was getting an internal exam during labor before the epidural).
The doctor sends me for an u/s to make sure the IUD is in there. Thank goodness it’s in there. That was also not fun since I had to had an internal u/s and that was a bit painful. The tech says it’s in there okay, the string just curled up.
So, fast forward to today. I went to the doctor’s office to have it out via a scope. Starting last night, I had to insert a tablet into my vagina so that the cervix would dilate. Waking up this morning, I felt really weird and had cramping from my cervix being dilated. Once at the doctors, they did a pregnancy test to make sure that I was not pregnant. Luckily, I was not. They then took my blood pressure and O2 level. My o2 level was fine but my BP was high because I was nervous. No big deal since it’s usually low and I’m quiet healthy. I then get a shot of toradol in my butt and have to wait about 20 minutes to kick in. I just felt kind of woozy. They then bring me in the room and the fun begins. Legs in stirrups, 2 nurses and a tech (who did not know what she was doing and was making me nervous). They gave me a shot of lidocaine in my uterus before the procedure. That was moderately uncomfortable, but luckily, a nice nurse let me squeeze her hand during that. The doctor then sends the camera up there and also sends water up my vagina so that she can work the camera. That was really weird to have water flowing out all over. The doctor got soaked, but I’m sure she’s used to it. I had lots of cramping going on and she see the IUD, grabs some kind of instrument and pulls it out. When she pulls it out, she noticed that the strings were all twisted, so that’s why I would not come out. I actually saw it out and was very relieved. The whole procedure probably lasted about 5-8 minutes, but it seemed like forever. They then cleaned me up and told me I’ll have cramping today. I’m still crampy now, so I’m taking advil every 4 hours. Hopefully, I feel fine by tomorrow.
The doctors office did give me the option to take valium and percocet for the procedure, but then I would not be able to drive home. So, I did not take it since it was hard enough to get someone to babysit, let alone drive me home. But, if you are the nervous time and have a ride, I say go for the other drugs! I was fine as soon as it was done and got out of there ASAP! I hope I’m not back in the office for a very long time. I’m going on the pill as soon as my cycle returns to normal since at least I did not have problems with that before.
I know I’m in the minority with these problems, but I wish I knew all the complications that I could have had since it would have saved me a ton of time, stress and money. I can only imagine how much it would cost to have the damn thing out, thank goodness I have decent insurance.

I have posted a couple of times previously about negative side effects, i.e. migraines, weight gain, acne, chin hair, eczema, lower back pain, no sex drive...and the list could go on. As a mature 36 year old woman I have educated myself over the past couple of years and can really only attribute all these issues to having the Mirena inserted 4 months after the birth of my daughter 3 years ago. Although at this time my doctors will not openly acknowledge these side effects, I am confident that one day they will. I encourage women to report adverse side effects to the FDA. It onlt takes a minute or two. Who knows, it may be the hormones or it may be the silicone plastic? It has to be something. It should also be acknowledged that some women, my very best friend for one, have had wonderful experiences with the Mirena. I really think it may just depend on the woman and her own body. I am having mine removed tomorrow after researching all of this for about 8 months. All I can say is, thank goodness. I am also scheduled for the Essure(permanent birth control). Food for thought for the older women in the group. Whatever each of you decide, realize you are not alone and you do not have to continue to feel the way you do if you believe that the Mirena could be making you feel so bad. Take care.

I have been taking perocect 10's for the last 1yr or so and it is very bad when I don't have them I feel like crap. When taking just one it is like taking 3more 10 min later cause it does not work as well from when I first started taking them. When I run out I am looking for them everywhere and taking other pain meds to cover the withdrawals. Man it is so bad feeling like that the runny noise, sweating, being angry, shaking, throwing up,shiting my guts out etc. I have a chronic back problem and I'm only 24yrs old. I have a very supporting husband who is there for me when I'm withdrawing all the time and I love him for that cause if it was any other man they would of left me hanging. I advice anyone who starts this pain killer to only take it when needed cause the chemical in the pill will mess your who life up and you will have some serious problems for realist is true but how I'm going to stop I will take a week out of my life to go to the hospital for help. Also there is so many other medication that can make you sleep.(PEROCECT'S WILL MESS UP YOUR LIFE SO DON'T GO DOWN THAT ROAD, PLEASE TAKE THIS MESSAGE SERIOUS THEY ARE VERY BAD, DON'T COVER UP THE PAIN GET IT TAKING CARE OF AND IF THE DOCTOR GIVES THE PEROCECT'S TO YOU DON'T TAKE IT CAUSE THEY DON'T CARE IT IS NOT THEM PLEASE DON'T).

THANK GOODNESS!!! I honestly thought I was losing my mind. I was in a automobile accident in 2007. We are in a lawsuit with the insurance company. Just today i am looking over all the medical records. I never knew what I was being injected with. They told me it would help and it was safe. So today i google Kenalog injections. I was given 120mg injections every 3 weeks for 4 months. I gained 38 pounds. I grew hair on my face. My emotions ran the spectrum and were subject to change any given moment. I became depressed. I have a menstrual every day for a year. Constant headaches and fatigue. The pain in my back decreased but I was constantly sick in some other way. Had I been told before hand about all of the possible side effects I would have refused treatment. Something should be done so that no one has to experience these things. I have not had an injection for almost 1.5 years and the dimpling has yet to resolve itself. If anyone know s anything that can be done please let me know. Also I think the drug company should be help accountable. If anyone figures out how to do that let me know.

I have been on Quasense for 9 months now. I have had 3 weeks of bleeding during the second month every 3-month pack/cycle. I am getting extremely tired from bleeding so much non-stop. During the last cycle and this one, I have been suffering from yeast infections. I have had one for 3 weeks straight now, and the gyno has given me prescriptions along with using monistat, and it has not gone away yet! I've been married a little over a month, and intercourse just makes me burn badly! I had irregular periods before, but this makes everything in my body irregular. I plan to switch pills ASAP.

I have been on NuvaRing for a little over a month now and I'm going to take it out probably today. I have been extremely nausea. I feel like I did when I was pregnant with my daughter. It's horrible. I kept taking pregnancy test because I really thought I was pregnant. Thankfully I'm not but this is a horrible side effect from the NuvaRing. I'm also experiencing daily headaches and occasional migraines. I have been very tired and have no energy or sex drive. I would never recommend this to anyone

It has now been almost 3 days since my Mirena was removed, a very liberating feeling!! No bleeding to speak of until now. I went to gym (ran, cycled, weights etc) to return home to find the bleeding has started, only light thank goodness. I also have some mild cramping pain in the region of my uterus. Could be it was too soon after having the Mirena removed to go to gym. Apart from the light bleeding and mild cramps, can't really say I can notice any difference yet. STILL NO REGRETS THOUGH.
I had the Mirena for 2 1/2 years so guess I can't expect my body to go back to normal straight away.
I am on contraception pills (until my husband is scheduled for his vasectomy). Unsure if I should be on any contraception so soon after reading another message.
Please let me know what you think??

Ayurvedic Herbal Treatment for Hypertension
Hello. I have been dealing with my hypertension now for approximately 1-1/2 years now and those of you that have read my findings through my previous posts know that I'm always looking for natural supplements to stay off of the lisinopril. I stumbled onto a new herb for bp. You absolutely have to try this. I went to see my doctor yesterday and I was having a really stressed out day dealing with a family crisis and my bp was 150/100. I left with a prescription, but I received my order of this stuff in the afternoon and I took the recommended two tablets twice a day and woke up this morning with my bp 108/69. This product gets shipped from India and takes approximately two weeks to arrive by registered air mail, but very much worth the wait. I have the link to order it and to read more about the herbal treatment. If you are interested, feel free to e-mail me and I will send it to you. Take care and good luck.

Hi, my name is Eva and I am 27 years old.
I am a mother of 2 and had Mirena IUD inserted a few months after my 2nd daughter was born. This was 3 1/2 years ago.
Since then I have developed Eczema on my hands (which is the least of my concerns). More importantly I was diagnosed with Graves' Disease (hyperactive thyroid function) last year.
I had developed a goiter on my neck (enlarged Thyroid) , my hair was very brittle & my eyes were always dry and itchy.
Since then I have undergone Radioactive iodine treatment to destroy my thyroid. Reading all of your posts seriously made me angry and I teared up because I definitely think that there is a link between Mirena and thyroid problems. It makes sense that your body would try and fight off any foreign object in your body and maybe that send the thyroid into a out of whack mode ?
I am currently researching if there are any clinical studies out there on this possible connection. If anyone would like to join me - pls. contact me at ******
I have an appointment to have my Mirena removed in a few days, I sincerely hope that it will make a difference in my health.
Best regards,
E.

I am so relieved to hear that so many people have experienced significant WEIGHT GAIN while on this drug. I weighed 150 pounds when I got pregnant and was 183 when I gave birth. I got all the way down to 152, when I became depressed and suffered from severe anxiety. I have gotten as high as 210 lbs, and my life has been miserable because of my attempts to lose weight and NOTHING WORKS! I can do an hour of spin class (supposed to burn 500-700 cals), lift weights, eat perfectly for weeks and step on the scale and lose NOTHING! I even hired a personal trainer and I think she thinks I am lying because she sees how hard I work out, and nothing changes. This is so depressing, I am embarrassed to go in public or even look in the mirror. I have decided to wean off although I have been taking this med for 10 years. It did help the depression, but now I am so depressed from this weight it is not worth it. Thank goodness I found this thread, because maybe I am not crazy!!!! Is there any chance I will ever lose the weight, or is my metabolism ruined for life?

thanks all for sharing and i'm so glad i did research and found this site!
i'm 30... my 1st birth control. been on it for 6 months. it took my body a few months to adjust to the ring... i had constant bleeding for the 1st month... i called it permanent period. it was gross. and then everything was rosy for the next 2 months. until slowly i gained weight and now i've gained 10 lbs. being 5'2" it's very noticeable. at first i thought it was because i'm not walking as much, but it doesn't make sense since i'm probably eating less.
also i feel nausea frequently... almost on a daily basis. i've completely lost my sex drive... which i've never experienced before so took me a few months to connect it to the ring. sex became painful and burned. i feel bad for my boyfriend because i don't feel like sex anymore, when i used to LOVE it. my energy level is low and i noticed my hair falling out a lot and easily.
be mindful of your symptoms... don't explain it away like i did. pay attention to them. i'm taking mine out!

Hi ! I posted on July 4th = serenity@42 ... I had mine inserted on June 18 during surgery as I posted, I was going to have it removed when I returned back to Canada. I called my doctor and he told me that to remove it, it take a second. He also told me that the side effects would diminish within 3 months, he also said "it is in your body, not mine", no problem to remove it. He told me to give it a week. This coming Tuesday will be a week to call him back. Now I went to a health food store to see if I can find something natural to assist in my side effects and I am taking Apply Cider Vinegar 600 tablets. They help reduce the bloating, along with my issue's from surgery *(lack of bowel / urine) = so this is helping me, you have to find the one that has "dandelions", which helps the urination of the excess water, I look 6 months pregnant at the time, now I look about 4 months, but this is helping me. As for the other side effects I had, the headaches have gone away, the moodiness is somewhat in control because I am aware of it and I make sure that I watch for it before I go off ! The swelling feet are still there, but I just had surgery 3 weeks ago, but still apart of the water retention ... I have not had sex with my finance yet because of surgery suggestions plus very minor spotting from surgery. The positive is that I have not had any period or bleeding from my period, but just spotting in the last day .. my doctor was surprised by that, and he said without bleeding, then this should outweigh the side effects, but totally up to me ... so I am going to give it a few more weeks to see if the weight comes off and the swelling in the feet go away, then I will decide what to do, I know it is a phone call away from removing it ... I want this to work so I am going to hang in there. Sleeping is getting better, I could not sleep plus having crazy dreams and waking up a few times a night, plus I forgot to add that I tend to be hot at night only, without sweating though, thank goodness. I have not had any hair loss during this whole time, and the acne has slowed down. I know that these are REAL symptoms because I know my body !!! I think that everyone had REAL feelings / symptoms as well and we must all honor what other women are going through and support each other not disregard others as EZRUST and NIAHSMOMMY have done ... This is a FORIEGN object in each of our bodies and some react differently but that is for everyone to decide if it is worth it or not pending their side effects. So to all that have had or are thinking of this for themselves, you read these postings and you have to make a decision for yourself on whether you either remove it and don't wait till it gets really bad or take the chance that you may only have minimal side effects. This is a great site to have support by most of us and to express your thoughts and feelings and know that you ARE NOT ALONE feeling these things ! Take care to all and I will update you as the days / week pass to see what come of this ... I will not let this Mirena Rule or Ruin my life that's for sure !!!!!!!!!
Take Care ... Serenity@42 !!!

I have read the posts below and thank goodness I found this site! I got an injection on Wednesday, 6/17, in my right knee and for the first 24 hours it hurt like heck - more stiff and painful than prior to the injection. On Friday I woke up shaky and started to feel anxious. My face and chest flushed a bright red which lasted all day. Saturday was worse; shaky, heart racing or palpitating, head/neck pressure with headache, hot flashes, nausea and stomach cramping/pain. I even actually had a panic attack (already a predisposition for me). I became uncontrollably weepy and depressed! Today, Sunday, I STILL have major anxiety and headache/pressure. I'm convinced the injection brought all of this on because before this, all I had was knee pain. So, WHEN will these icky symptoms start to subside? I was told the cortisone was good for 4-6 months. I can't live feeling like this everyday for that long!!! Any suggestions or encouragement?

Signed the Mirena petition which all of you should too. So many people who are on it with no side effects as well as doctors do not believe us and it is very frustrating. Both my OB/GYN and the neurologist I have been seeing don't think the Mirena is responsible for my dizziness/foggy head, anger/anxiety/moodiness, body tingling, however my symptoms started exactly 3 weeks after I got Mirena inserted. Never had these issues before. Have had the Mirena removed and hope these horrible symptoms go away!

I DISLOCATED MY SHOULDER AND THANK GOODNESS FOR THESE! I HAVE TAKEN THEM BEFORE WITH AN IMPACTED TOOTH AND I LOVED THEM THEN TOO. ITS CRAZY TO SEE ALL OF THESE TESTIMONIES AND THE COMPLETELY DIFFERENT WAYS LORTAB AFFECTS PEOPLE. THE DEFINITELY "MAKE ME HIGH" TO BE HONEST. BUT HELL I LIKE IT, AND I DON'T HAVE A PROBLEM WITH ADDICTION SO WHY NOT. =) FUNNY THING IS I CANNOT TAKE VICODIN BY ITSELF. ILL HAVE NO PAIN RELIEF AND AN UPSET STOMACH. STRANGE BUT EVEN FROM READING THESE CLAIMS IT IS EASY TO SEE THAT EVERYONES BODY IS AFFECTED DIFFERENTLY.

I have been taking the generic version of Wellbutrin, Bupropion, for almost 6 months. It has been the only thing to lift a bit of my chronic depression and anxiety. It gives me enough energy to navigate my day- I am not as tired all the time, nor do I feel so heavy and generally lethargic.
About 2 months ago, my hair started falling out. I have always had extremely thick, shiny hair. I started taking more vitamins to no avail. I couldn't figure it out because I didn't see anything about hair loss on the literature from the pharmacy that comes with my pills. Huge gobs of hair would come out in the shower or anytime I combed it. It got on my clothes, on the floor, on my pillows... It was horrifying! I believe I have lost about half of my hair, no kidding. I don't have any bald spots thank goodness, but that is because I started with so much hair in the first place. But if it keeps going at this rate, I can't imagine not being bald in the near future! Recently my friends have even commented on my thin hair. I try to not comb it unless it is just as the bottom, and even then I am pulling the hair up through the comb, not pulling the comb down through my hair. I wash it as infrequently as possible and even though I desperately need a trim, I will not go to the salon.
Just tonight I found this information and this very informative site. I am so mad though, because I never saw this as a possible side effect in any of the main literature- maybe I just missed it?
What is scary to me is to think about going off this drug...I'm afraid I won't be able to function as well with day to day living. My fatigue, depression, and anxiety are so immobilizing. I am going to try to go to a low dose and see if that helps, as well as continue to take the extra vitamins with biotin.
I really hope that's enough.
I didn't get much help in the past from any other antidepressants (I have tried 4). Almost as bad as the hair loss (although not visible to the entire world) was the total lack of sexual desire and ability to have sexual pleasure with the other drugs. That is part of the reason I loved Wellbutrin: no sexual side effects, a slight decrease in appetite/weight, increased energy and alertness, and a decrease in depression and anxiety (not completely, but the best I have had so far).
The only other side effect I have experienced is irritability and that has recently become worse. I notice I am much terser with my daughter and have less patience in general. I am likely to have angry reactions and at times I find myself feeling confrontational, whereas in the past I have always shied away from confrontation.
It is definitely a mixed bag with any of these drugs and very disappointing. Good luck to you all and thanks for sharing. . .
