I came home from work and opened my new bottle of Niaspan er 500mg. It was late and my wife was asleep. I read the bottle and it said take 2 tablets before bed with food. I did and about 4 hours later, my entire body was on FIRE and my hair felt like needles pinching my skin when I moved. I can deal with a hot flash or flushing but I was literally RED hot to touch, forget the feeling that I was having a heart attack or stroke.
I am only 41 years old in good health and a little low good cholesterol. I tried again few days later with one pill(after my wife had a good laughed) and experience the same nightmare. No hot flash, I was BURNING RED and my hairs were needles pinching my skin as I put ice packs around my neck.
I understand this is just a form of vitamin B-3??? Has anyone tried some form of herbal version of a B-vitamin?? Has anyone tried to take during the daytime????

For the sake of our wonderful world of insurance hmo's, I had to stop taking my Effexor. I've taken cymbalta 60mg for 3mo and no side effects at all. Moods stabilized, a bit irritable (but live in my world). Fibro pain gone, some fatigue and days end. Migraines, have not had one since I started. Talk with your doc about adding some concerta with it for energy and concentration. The combination work wonders for me. Age 52 raising a 4th grade grandson, with 5 other grandchildren that I have over 2 - 3 times a week and work from home, and volunteer when I can. So I still have a full life boys and girls. And you can too.

A British study suggests that Singulair should be studied for possible psychiatric adverse drugs reactions in children. I don't have this access to this journal so I have to try to find it. I will get back to you on what it says specifically.
BMC Clin Pharmacol. 2008 Mar 17;8(1):1 Links
Individual case safety reports in children in commonly used drug groups - signal detection.Brunlof G, Tukukino C, Wallerstedt SM.
ABSTRACT: BACKGROUND: Due to few paediatric drug safety studies, knowledge on risks of drug treatment in children is limited. The knowledge needs to be increased to make proper risk-benefit analyses possible when treating paediatric patients with drugs. The aim of the present study was to investigate drug groups commonly used in children concerning type and frequency of individual case safety reports in children. METHODS: Number and type of individual case safety reports in the 30 groups of drugs (5th level ATC-code) most sold (number of defined daily doses) in outpatient treatment to children (<5 years old and experiencing psychiatric adverse drug reactions. CONCLUSION: The number of individual case safety reports per million defined daily doses varies in different groups of drugs. A possible signal for montelukast and psychiatric adverse drug reactions was found, which should be further explored.
PMID: 18366638
The key sentence is:
A POSSIBLE SIGNAL FOR MONTELUKAST (SINGULAIR) AND PSYCHIATRIC ADVERSE DRUG REACTIONS WAS FOUND, WHICH SHOULD BE FURTHER EXPLORED.

I started Topamax over 2 years ago. First 25mg then 50 mg, now 100mg. I was put on Topamax for migraine headaches. I never recieved any information about the side effect hair lose in any of my paperwork. I would have never started taking it if I had, I am a Pentecostal woman and my hair is very important to me. I just found out about this side effect recently in a medical dictionary on my own.I have lost so much hair, it comes out by the handfulls. The doctor said if I dont stop this med I will go bald. I also stay very weak in my legs and arms, and cant even hold my grandchildren much anymore without having pains.I have double vision and recently had to get glasses.I hav'nt had a good glass of pepsi in over a year. I stay sad alot like no one cares feeling very depressed. I never use to feel this way before getting on Topamax.I have so much trouble with my memory I even forget how to get home sometimes. I am only 43 years old I feel like I am losing my mind sometimes.I have lost alot of weight I only weigh 95 pounds and cant seem to gain any back. My family and friends have even noticed the changes. This is a very bad drug and needs to be takin off the market. I cant even stop taking it yet because the doctor said I will start having seziers. I hav'nt had migraines, but look at what else I have gained instead. Just give my a Tylonol and let me keep my hair and mind.

I have been taking prednisone for dermatomyositis for the past 4 months. I am on 30 mg a day. When I try to taper, my rash and muscle pain/weakness come back so we are trying 1mg lower every 5 days now to see what happens. Other than thirst and a rapid heartbeat if I drink cafeine during the day.....no side effects at all. I have not gained weight (but I have been on weight watchers 5 years and have maintaned my goal weight through that and as much as exericise as my disease allows) nor have I had gotten the moon face, etc. However, my best friend who is on only 20mg daily for the past 12 months is now diabetic, gained 45 pounds, got the moon face and rash. I would not know if I had the rash or not as my DM causes a very nasty rash. I know this medication has many horrible side effects and can be devastating ... but without it I would not be swollowing, teaching my special ed classes daily, hugging my grandchildren, or taking care of my own needs right now. I am 54.

my grandchildren all have allergies and are taking singuliar, and have been for sometime. Doctor recommended it for the winter season. Although, my oldest grandson has been on it the most and he does have twitching and a tick problem. Also, I have noticed that his character has changed, some. He can be listless at times and also does not like to lose at anything and gets upset when someone criticizes him...The doctor said that children sometimes go through tick phases. I just have to wonder what the doctors haven't realzed, yet, about singuliar.

My mom (age 80 yesterday) has had a bad cough and bronchitis for about 2 months and for some reason the doctor prescribed Singulair. She had one dose last night and the side effects were immediate. She had extremely vivid dreams, hallucinations continuing today, talkativeness, nausea, pain in her hips, and tingly hand. She said she fell 4 times last night - tipped over, and asked her grandchildren and son-in law to help her - they were not really there though. It was a hallucination. She's also shaky and heart palpitations, but she had that already. I will never give her this again.

I have been on predinsone for 14 1/2 years. I have had weight gain on and off and now I am up to 270. I have chronic asthma, MS and bad allergies. I had seen a specialist years ago and they said I would never go off prednisone. I am dependent on it. Two different times in these past years I had gone down to two 1/2 mg. I was able to lose weight and I felt pretty good. I went down 85 pounds. I promised myself never to let it happen again. haha. I have 6 children and 3 grandchildren. I am 44 and have been married 23 years. My husband loves me the way I am (so he sayes) but I am very depressed and unhappy about the way I look and feel. I have moon face, I am obese, I have the lump on my back, I am taking numerous other medications for my asthma and MS. My nurologist has given me some anti depressants and I guess it helps but sometimes I just feel like asking if it is all worth the trouble. I can't take it sometimes, I just want to run off the side of the bridge. Then I think about my family and my mom who lost two sons, one to asthma when he was 17 and one who was shot when he was 21 and I know she couldn't take losing me. I recently had a dose of solumedrol in the emergency room and the next day my doctor took a CBC and dif. It came up that my wbc was 20,000. He said that was very high and I just wanted to know if anyone else has had a high white blood count after a dose of solumedrol.

I am 64 years old and I have been taking Depakote for app-
roximately 10 years. For many years I was diagonosed with
Bipolar. Through the years I have been on many anti-depress
ants. Some would work and some wouldn't. I got so sick and
tired of all the medications, I just wanted to throw them out
in the yard. However... for the past three to four years, I
have just been totally depressed. Going to different Dr.'s
trying this and that. Still depressed. So, this past week I
went to a new Dr. and guess what... he took me completely
off of Depakote. I was only taking 1,000 mgs. a day. In the
past I have taken as much as 2,100 mgs a day. Once I got
toxic, didn't even know my own name. Couldn't even call
anyone for help because my memory was in such bad shape.
Weight gain, memory loss, leg aches, swollen feet and legs,
and it messed up my thyroid. Felt drugged every morning,
tired all the time, didn't want to go anywhere, just wanted to
sleep all the time and let everything go. It's a horrible feeling
to have. You don't have a life. There has been many times
in my past, that I had just soon been dead. But.......I would
be a fool to do something so stupid! I have two wonderful
sons and four lovely grandchildren. Those of you that are on
Depakote, I wish you the best of luck. And remember...
you are suppose to have blood work done every three months
so that the Dr. can know your Depakote level.

Bobby you are so right "BIG Pharama" and thank you for your well researched comments that you post.
BUT let's not forget big pharma whom I do hate over this issue does state a lot of the adverse side effects on the labels.
SO MR and MRS DOCTOR why don't you read the instructions and advise us of what to watch out for. I told my doctor over a 3 year period of leg cramps that made me squeal and physically dropped me, I also told him over 3 years that my swimming speed overnight dropped by 25% which I now know is a dangerous condition called loss of muscle power. In the end I went to him knowing I was dying, I could only shuffle not walk straight and my whole body was hunched like an ape, people in the street were looking at me. My speech was slurry. This clown who was previously highly respected and revered by myself and wife asked me if I had a low pain threshold, he stood up behind his desk imitated my ape like shuffle then told me to stand up and walk straight. So in my mind there are 2 very clear issues.
1) The big pharma criminal scam.
2) The doctors failing to be safe, read instructions and think for themselves.
I'm in New Zealand a couple of months ago a 69 yr old fellow in Australia with an axe chopped up his wife and grandchildren killing them. A neighbor said they were an ordinary family and the man had become deeply withdrawn.
I stopped a car in the middle of the street and attacked it with my walking stick, I heard "voices" and stalked my house at night with an axe in my hand.
Go to space doctor DOT net and type in Allen Woodley suicide. There are 3 examples here where people lost their minds and took their own lives through statins.
We the "small" people have to originally put the pressure and file the complaints against the doctors then they can resist the pharmas.
No I am getting my faculties back make no mistake I will be filing a police complaint of criminal negligence.
Get the instructions and front the doctor after all he/she is the "retailer" and they can take it up with their "wholesaler"
These b#$%^&&ds are not only wrecking us but they are demonstrably negligently and criminally wrecking the lives of society's grandparents whose golden years we must protect.
Incidentally when I asked my doctor in January for an apology he rammed his bunched fist in my face in his surgery and said how dare you doubt my ability as a doctor. Not bad some of these clowns.
Then of course as we who have been forced to research ourselves we all now know that cholesterol and elevated cholesterol as we get older is absolutely essential for longevity.
These practitioners are totally unbelievable.
